The past always imposes on the future. What is today did not just erupt today, it has context, it is informed by, molded by that context, that history. Prisoner to it maybe not; but molded and informed by it, definitely. We are where we are because of where we have been and the paths we and others chose in the past. Hell the USA has issues with IRAN because of our history with them going back to world war one, and that history is alive to them even if it is not to us. Mossadegh is an issue even though he is long dead and Kermie Roosveldt is also. Tribalism in Kenya long predates the bunch of lines drawn on a map by a BOGSAT in the foreign office in London.
