More Proof of Plagiarism, Stories Don’t Add Up
By NoQuarter on February 19, 2008 at 8:27 PM in Barack Obama, David Axelrod, Deval Patrick, Plagiarism
Via YouTube and Taylor Marsh’s “Obama’s Plagiarism, The Saga Continues“:
As Taylor observes, “This is about character. It’s about Obama’s con. It’s about presenting yourself as authentic, when the truth is just the opposite.”
Taylor also went to Obama’s site and found the speech, but no credit to Patrick is given. Jake Tapper at ABC News did some further digging and found that “Deval Patrick’s Timeline Doesn’t Mesh with Reality“:
“In a telephone interview on Sunday [with the New York Times], Mr. Patrick said that he and Mr. Obama first talked about the attacks from their respective rivals last summer, when Mrs. Clinton was raising questions about Mr. Obama’s experience, and that they discussed them again last week," the Times’ Jeff Zeleny wrote. "Patrick said he told Mr. Obama that he should respond to the criticism, and he shared language from his campaign with Mr. Obama’s speechwriters.”
But Obama was quoted using Patrick’s language before the Summer of 2007.
"’We hold these truths to be self-evident, all men are created equal.’ Those are just words," Obama was quoted as saying in a March 19, 2007 New Republic story. " ‘I have a dream.’ Just words.”
So….the claim that Patrick an Obama "first" discussed this last Summer does not make sense.
It should also be noted that in addition to the "Yes We Can" slogan that Obama used in 2004, Patrick used in 2006, and Obama uses today, other language from the two clients of political guru David Axelrod has come from both men’s mouths.
To wit:
Patrick in June 2006, at the Massachusetts Democratic party convention: "I am not asking anybody to take a chance on me. I am asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations."
Obama one year later, as quoted in USA Today: "I am not asking anyone to take a chance on me. I am asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations."

- “Just Words, But Whose Words?“
As Tapper asks, This is just “about words”? Nope. It’s about character. It’s about being who you PRETEND to be.

When is the story about John McCain’s campaign finance scheme going up (or has it been here alread?). He was playing with a 10 point spread.
Whew! Now that’s unprecedented creativity.

Oh enough already. “Plagiarism!” ain’t got no legs. It really looks desperate, in fact. Why can’t Hillary challenge Obama on her own merits? What’s up with this bullshit “plagiarism” crap? Journalists are already dutifully chugging out all the instances where she, too, has “plagiarized”.
This is such a tawdry little “issue”. “Plagiarism!” doesn’t belong in a Democratic primary campaign. She’s turning this election into an episode of Jerry Springer.
Doesn’t she have anything serious to offer in this election?
It’s about Obama being a fucking idiot, dumber than Bush, UNABLE TO DO HIS OWN THINKING, and hiring someone as stupid as Axlerod to do it for him…
And who does Axlerod’s thinking?
Great, another idiot who has to cheat, who has to rely on others to do his thinking, a fucking idiot who can’t problem solve who WILL NOT be able to make the big decisions.
How shall the Russian cats play the Obama moron today?
Think we should bomb Pakistan?
Yeah?
Who wants to start a war?
And who will save Obama’s ass, now that he’s proven himself just another stupid Rovian stench, the man doesn’t even own his mind, is not capable of it…?
It’s about Obama being a fucking idiot, dumber than Bush, UNABLE TO DO HIS OWN THINKING, and hiring someone as stupid as Axlerod to do it for him…
Don’t hold back! Let us know how you REALLY feel!
Don’t do it Obamaphlies! Don’t give in to the Dark Side!
BG: I don’t know why as yet, but you remind me of Alonso Quixano, maybe someday it will matter if I do.
RIGHT ON!! I agree! Great summary!!
UNABLE TO DO HIS OWN THINKING, and hiring someone as stupid as Axlerod to do it for him…
Are you suggesting that Hillary doesn’t rely on any consultants or advisors? The fact that her campaign is being run by her husband’s Old Boy network doesn’t indicate that she, too, is a “fucking idiot”?
I find it odd that you’ll hang Obama for having a speechwriter (Axelrod) without noticing that every presidential candidate ever had speechwriters. Hillary has speechwriters, too. Did you know that?
In fact, famously, she is about as scripted a candidate as ever existed.
I mean, hell. Clinton the Lesser is managing to disappoint even those who had miserably low expectations of her to begin with. She’s start to resemble Geraldo Rivera.
Do you respond to your own comments?
So we just lower the bar ever further? Just copy entire paragraphs of your friend’s speech, and then laugh it off? What an example for our children.
He’s not too sharp in debates, when he has to think on his feet…Hillary has a very organized mind…it is really quite impressive….
What exactly does “the man doesn’t even own his mind, is not capable of it?” mean? I can tell you are not an Obama supporter, your words speak for you.
When are people like you going to stop the circular firing squad that will lead directly to a McCain victory? Obama is not perfect, and guess what? HE DOES NOT WRITE HIS OWN SPEECHES! Who does?
As for him being an idiot, stop drinking the MSM neocon Koolaid. Obama graduated from Columbia University, and then was President of the Harvard Law Review and graduated Magna cum laude. Idiot? Are you kidding?
You can support Hillary if you like, but please don’t tear down our likely nominee with this bullshit.
Whoops! Forgot the y in already.
Wow! This is great, ripping apart all these presidential folks. Why, I think I feel like Hyena’s must (much maligned I fear) when shredding a carcass or attacking a lone lion.
It is also, I admit, bordering on the comic, just how obsessively Susan and Larry are breathlessly chugging out hyperventilating post after post after post on “Plagiarism!”
What is this, the 10th in two days? Doesn’t the Hillary Campaign have some sort of meaningful press release that can be regurgitated dutifully?
I await the next installation: “Obama’s Secret Love Child” or perhaps another round of “Obama’s Ties to Terrorists”. Or maybe it will be “Obama’s Secret Love Child Has Ties to Terrorists”.
Have you ever plagiarized, you know, not been able to come up with an idea of your own?
Can I help you?
Not that you’d understand it, Edith.
You’re becoming as transparent as your name suggests.
If your posts become any more insubstantial, there’d only one word for you: Troll.
Anybody know any good cookie recipes?
yeah, like on “daily kos”! show those true colors!
You’re the one bringin’ color to the table, not me; heck, you’ve probably seen lots of recipes.. So if you’re going to post something irrelevant, you might as well bring back something useful for us from that site. Seeing as your candidate likes to cut and paste, it’d be most appropriate.
The only thing I ask to leave out the nuts.
“Leave out the nuts”? We’d loose the fringe comments . . .
Here are a couple examples of Hillary’s “plagiarism” of Obama:
The New Republic’s Noam Scheiber notes that “you can’t listen to a Clinton speech without hearing multiple riffs she’s filched from other candidates.” Back in November, he flagged her Obama lines, which ranged from hope and unity to sharing her aspiration to be a President not only for blue states, but the entire United States. 2008-02-18-Picture5.png In Iowa, Clinton pilfered Obama’s catch phrase “fired up and ready to go,” and lately she has also sounded like John McCain — they both tout a slogan about being “read to lead on Day One,” whatever that means.
Since it’s considered so clever to project a candidate’s weakness onto an opponent, it’s really no surprise that the Clinton Campaign is now attacking Obama on trumped up allegations of sounding like another politician.
More available at The Nation’s web site.
You’re spooling yourself, be careful.
“…Clinton pilfered Obama’s catch phrase “fired up and ready to go,” …That phrase didn’t come from Obama. You should look up where it did come from as it was used a lot before either of these two used it. You are missing the point. It’s not using some words here and there or a phrase from someone else…it is pretending to be something you are not, inspirational and original, pretending it’s all coming from the heart when you actually heard it some where else. Obama isn’t being attacked, facts are merely being pointed out and you should pay attention to what he is not and pretending to be. You need to take a good look at what is and not what you wish it were. Wouldn’t you want to know if you were being conned? It opened my eyes and I was disappointed that he was acting like it was his own words and still would be if someone hadn’t called him on it. It’s fake and dishonest.
Love this site! We should all go to some run down bar and get liquored up and engage in an old-style bar-room brawl. Then we’d end it and buy each other drinks. I guess that’s both sides of Irish in me talking.
Please mister bartender, listen here

And didn’t Christ plagiarize Zoraster?
“Ask not what God can do for you, but what you can do for..” Wait, that was JFK. Well, being Christ, I guess he can travel faster than light so he could time travel…?????
Ahhhh, crap. This is to complicated. I have to pull out Einstein’s stuff on this. But wait, Max Planck almost had it and Einstein used Planck’s constant E=h(bar)v and……………..
Just remember: what ever you do, never, ever, ever use any word that anyone else has ever used. Otherwise Hillary Clinton will accuse you of “plagiarism”.
That whole critical thinking thing, as well as Mao airlines, just went right over your head, didnt’ it, tiny, just like a fucking 747?
insulting me doesn’t make wrong. is that over YOUR head?
That’s bullshit BG, it’s downplaying the nature of the issue. It’s not each “word”. it’s the faking of inspiration and coming from the heart making us believe you are saying it when you had heard it all before and you are just faking it. It’s pretending to be carried away in the moment. Clinton isn’t accusing…she’s pointing out a fact. O pretended it was all coming from him and had us believing it was his words and still would be if Clinton hadn’t called him on it. Quit trying to justify it as being okay and using it to smear Clinton. Why can’t you just accept the fact that he did it? It’s not an accusation, it’s a fact.
Along the same lines as the claimed link of his birth to Dr. Martin Luther King’s march in Selma, Alabama. Obama likes to recount how his parents met on the bridge in Selma during the march and nine months later, he was born. This would require some impressive time travel, as he was born about 4 years before the march in Selma, and his parents were separated by that time, but hell, it makes for an interesting narrative.
Wow - once it bad but this is starting to look like a pattern for Obama. And the MSM seem to be taking a serious look at this pattern of his - NBC led off their national news this evening with this story.
I mean seriously - for someone who relies so heavily on rhetoric and words, he has a hard time coming up with anything original or from the heart. It’s about time someone started to dig into that rhetoric and ask for more than just nice speeches.
Thanks for posting this Susan - nice catch!
That’s it in a nutshell. He — and his besotted supporters — have relied wholly on the hope message / the change message — hanging on his every word. But they’re not even his words.
That’s not so bad– but you need to ACKNOWLEDGE quotations. God, at DailyKos, if you quote someone and don’t acknowledge, blockquote, or link it, you’re BANNED. I guess they don’t feel the same way about their candidates.
So I slummed and watched Fox News last night and Karl Rove (I know) was asked about the faintings at Obama rallies and the plagiarism. Rove said faintings happen at every political rally and he really doubted Obama’s faintings were staged. But he said plagiarism was notable. He also said this:
KR: “Oh it’s plagiarism. Let’s - pure and simple it’s plagiarism. Earlier today the two of them came out and talked about this. No this is plagiarism. And it’s not just - if he’d said “as my friend Gov Deval Patrick said” or “as one of my friends said” (and attributed it to Patrick that way) it would be fine, but no it’s political plagiarism and it’s not as bad as writing it in a book but it’s plagiarism nonetheless.
O’Rielly: is this a big deal?
KR: Not in and of itself. But indicative of something that is a bigger deal. Plagiarism is laziness of a very smart mind. Barak Obama is very smart. But he can also — because he’s so smart — think he can get away without doing his homework - he didn’t think he needed to acknowledge Patrick’s authorship of those words. He also does this on television and in public appearacnes. And has done it a number of times.
One of the earliest examples I recall was (Obama) on Meet the Press last year (Feb 2007 or so) and there was a passage from his book that said ‘Progressives have to demonstrate their fiscal responsibility by having the courage to cut government spending programs that don’t work.’ Tim Russert threw that quote up on the screen and said well give me an example. Well he’d supposedly written it in his book, you’d think he’d thought about what the answer was. He didn’t have an answer.
KR: Well finally he (Obama) said well we ought to require Medicare and Medicaid to bill using electronic records and save millions of dollars, if we required physicians to bill electronically. Well, starting 2003, the fed gov has a rule in place that requires electronically. He’d written it in his book, but he didn’t have the answer and when he came up with an answer he had a funny one.
–End Rough Transcript–
So is it over? Is Obama our nominee just as this is starting to break out?
Irony defined.
Let’s see: If Hillary continues to campaign like this, she is going to be relying on the “below average”, people with IQs at least half if not one standard deviation below the national mean. That group is, by definition, a minority, and therefore, cannot carry the election for her. She better come up with more than “Plagiarism!” soon or most people aren’t going to be greatly impressed with her or her candidacy.
I’m trying not to get insulting but I’ve endured so much insulting for doing so little and, finally, the reality of what Hillary seems to be up to really is insulting to the intelligence itself. At some point, one is left only with the option of laughter in the face of the perpetually insipid. Hopefully, the vacuous brawl will transcend “Plagiarism!” sometime soon. I look forward to the next installment, probably a trumped-up sex scandal, or more on drugs or “Obama’s Ties to Terrorists”.
Regarding Obama and Deval, which one is Milli and which one is Vanilli?
They obviously have the same choreographer.
BG- already something up on the sex and drugs angle:
http://dockets.justia.com/docket/court-mndce/case_no-0:2008cv00360/case_id-96322/
lawsuit filed in federal court against Obama and Axelrod.
That’s disgusting. How dare you demean people with lower IQs.
I’ll be getting back to you.
How fake of you. Will you accuse me of “Plagiarism!” next?
Banquo..
Nope..you haven’t quoted anything from Shakespere except the name of a Ghost..
which wasn’t very welecome anyhow and you have never written anything wothwhile yet..
You just keep repeating yourself..Bow..Talk about Lower than Average I.Qs..
You are Prima Facia Evidence such a thing exists..
BG: I as I mentioned 5 threads back, you are posting below your potential. But hey, since Tim Russert just made a sexist comment about “white women over 50″ being Hillary’s base, I guess that lets you of the hook.
BG:endured so much insulting for doing so little
YUP…That about somes it up.
Great Balls of Fire! Did anybody catch McCain’s “acceptance” speech tonight?
Can you say “four more years”?
Well Banquo’s Ghost,
I’m certainly not impressed by your argument, nor your intelligence. Your posts, in general, seem to lack substance and depth.
And now you’re ridiculing another struggling minority. Wow, how can I not be impressed by you.
Would you mind taking your talking points elsewhere? You’re in a midst of adults here. You may not like it, so move on.
Obviously I’m stupid! I am not repeating what Susan wrote! We are here at Parrot Nation! Sqwaak!
I know where you’re coming from. I have two parrots that can outdo you any day.
Sorry, but I’m really getting pissed at your brainless intrusions into real dialogue.
The election isn’t until November, there’s time for you yet.
Oh Dear. I didn’t demean people with lower IQs. I demeaned people who ACT like people with lower IQs.
Now you sound like your candidate, making excuses. Next thing I know, you’ll be telling me it was no big deal.
You’re in trouble, buster. Nobody talks like that here.
Now you get the hell out of here, of I’ll get you out of here.
Don’t engage the freak!
Good advice indeed. I blew it, of course. Just so sick and tired of the endless stupid, factless attacks inserting themselves into totally reasonable conversations. My bad.
Hey I recognize you from dailykos (catfish). I finally banned myself from there for the day. Thanks for having my back over there.
Yeh…and I will Back her Up..Boy..You are reminding me of my “MAD DOG” Days..
Obama’s “WordGate” problem begs the question every citizen should ponder: Why does Obama couch his agenda (or criticisms) in borrowed, lofty rhetoric rather than state his values and purpose with impunity?
Perhaps WordGate, coupled with Obama’s questionable past relationships, are echos of some hidden character and judgement flaws that the media — up to now — have ignored.
Moreover, the messianic fervor of Obama’s presidential campaign is troubling, particularly when you consider the extraordinary executive powers Congress has allowed Bush to amass unchecked.
Wordgate!
KR: Not in and of itself. But indicative of something that is a bigger deal.
Confirmation they just made it a narrative.
Someone’s “innocence” has just been lost. (POP)
To Banquos ghost. It was bad enough when the Republicans were telling BS about Hillary but when Democrats start doing it, that is really low. I notice you have no real specifics just BS vague charges and/or trumped up charges. Hillary has worked all her like for progressive causes. She deserves better from jackasses like you.
Leave the children out of this! I agree with the poster who says, “What kind of example are we setting?” The kids should be allowed to be kids. Oh no! I know someone said that before but I don’t have the primary source.
They need to be conditioned by the corporate marketing machinery before they are ready for the political marketing machinery that awaits them when they are eligible to vote. Their untility is in helping the economy and learning to choose.
Their $10 billion a year in disposable income (mostly parent’s money) causes them to be subjected to sly but wonderful product marketing campaigns for gear and everything else. The practice they receive in choosing say, Burger King over McDonald’s or Nike over Puma or Rolex over Timex will serve them well when it comes time for them to choose between brand A from the Republicans or brand A from the Democrats.
I’d like to acknowledge that the foregoing thoughts were sponsored/inspired by the works of Marx (much maligned I fear), Marcuse, Lenin and Bush the Minor, the latter for his post 911 advice “go shopping”.
From Talking Points Memo:
“Clinton fingerprints on plagiarism flap
Fact Check: Clinton Denies Driving Plagiarism Charge Against Obama _ Despite Fingerprints
Staff
AP News
Feb 19, 2008 19:21 EST
Hillary Rodham Clinton says reporters, not her campaign, uncovered evidence of Democratic rival Barack Obama sharing speech lines with Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.
She made the claim Tuesday despite the fact her campaign posted video clips on YouTube illustrating similarities in the speeches and has suggested in several instances that the shared lines amount to plagiarism.
THE SPIN: “It’s not us making this charge, it’s the media,” Clinton told Honolulu television station KITV Tuesday. “The media is finally examining my opponent which I think is important. We’re trying to pick a president, someone for the toughest job in the world.”
She added: “I think the media is going to be putting forth whatever facts and information it has for voters to assess on their own.”
In an interview with another Honolulu station, KGMB, Clinton noted that Obama and Patrick share a strategist, David Axelrod, “who is apparently putting words in both of their mouths.”
She added: “I think that’s a serious concern.”
FACT CHECK: Any suggestion that the story had a life of its own, apart from the Clinton campaign, is disingenuous.
[SNIPPED BY ADMIN]
Yeah - but it’s still plagiarism. She didn’t plagiarize for him, he did that all by himself. This guy is a phony.
He’s a phony but his acolytes don’t care. We are in the midst of two elections.
One a caucus better organized by Obama.
A “Movement” part enthusiasm, part hysteria, propelled by Obama.
A fight for nomination, and then another election starts all over again which democrats should? win.
This is blatent rainmaker stuff, but Clinton needed a far better on the ground grass roots caucus organizing,…..And a Plan B. She’s been ill served and ill advised by pols hacks when she needed organizers like Axelrod and their netroots abililities.
You can’t post full articles here. Only a quote and a link. It’s a rule.
I’ll edit it. Wish you’d provided a link. Maybe you can add that in a comment.
OBAMA WINS WISCONSIN IN LANDSLIDE WHILE TAKING HILLARY’S BASE OF SUPPORT
Sorry guys, you fought hard and you lost. It’s still not too late to sign up to campaign for Maverick. Have fun.**
BWAAAAAAAHAAAAHAAAHAAAAAHAAAAA!!!!!!!
** Remarks attributable to my neighbor Chucky
So…when your kid “borrows” whole sections of a term paper from someone else, and gets caught, you, as the upstanding parent that you are, go to the school to lobby for your child not being suspended or receiving a failing grade, on the basis that your kid had his or her friend’s permission to use the material, right? How could that possibly be a big deal, right?
Come on, people - are you so desperate not to see the flaws in your candidate that there is no standard you aren’t willing to compromise?
I think it sets a terrible example. I guess you can add it to the whole steroids-in-sports mess. Athletes that we cheered for their skill and prowess cheated the sport and cheated the fans - how is this Obama thing different? How have the thousands of people who listened to Obama not been cheated, not been deceived, not been sold a fake?
Have we not had enough of deception and lies? I, at least, have had enough of political figures thinking that we are that stupid.
It’s part of a pattern of short-sighted risk for the hope of long-term gain. Part of what pisses me off is that in this age, there is always a record, always a video, always a transcript - and he was assuming what? That he wouldn’t ever have to explain himself? That no one would ever hear him speak, wonder why it sounded so familiar, and decide to check it out?
It’s like Rezko - Obama and the Mrs. wanted a home more in line with their ambitions, and they worked the angles, used the connection to someone with a shady and questionable history, and waht? Figured no one would ever put the two names together and ask any questions?
His story on both counts has changed, each time having to come clean with a little more info after more details were discovered. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I wonder what else is lurking that will be “found” at the worst possible moment. How many GOP operatives do you figure are building a nice, fat file on Obama?
Wake the hell up. There is no one - no one - who is worth compromising the standards we set for ourselves and the ones we endeavor to teach our kids, and when you find yourself willing to excuse in a presidential candidate things that you would not tolerate from those closest to you, something is very, very wrong.
Doing drug is OK, plagiarism is OK. Just can’t wait till the Rezko trial starts. I’d really like to see the limit of Obama supporters.
Whether it’s technically plagiarism or not isn’t the issue to me. The issue is that a man who presents himself as a visionary and stresses his authenticity has been revealed to be a product, and more’s the pity, a product with recycled advertising. With what Axelrod likely charges, he ought to come up with fresh riffs for a new client.
Or was Patrick the test market project?
Exactly.
I thought he is for CHANGE, then he didn’t even bother to CHANGE Patrick’s words. In the beginning, I thought he is really good at giving speeches, because he doesn’t read from notes, like McCain, and Clinton; then I was told he uses teleprompter. I thought it is OK because at least he is using his own words, giving us his vision; now it turns out it is not the case.
I want to touch on a sensitive subject - affirmative action. In my view, Barack Hussein Obama was protected by affirmative action for so long that he thinks he can get away with anything. It is no big deal because he says so, and the media will just let him pass because they are so afraid of being cast as racist.
Now the final question remains - who sent chill down Chris Matthews’ leg?
this is just so weak i cannot believe it.
almost as weak as the issue with michelle obama finally being proud of her country
if this is what the clinton campaign is relying on, then they are doomed.
the comparisons between drunk bush and obama in terms of being lack-of-experience are bogus. any fool could have seen that gwb would be a terrible president, completely unprepared and un-curious. sadly, for our country, he (and his handlers) took advantage of it for all it was worth and more.
you can’t seriously believe that obama, who was a community organizer among other things in his career (not just given businesses to ruin) would turn every instrument of our government over to cronies do you?
who knows, maybe obama will be a terrible president. we have tough times ahead. but do you seriously believe that he will lie and only hire advisors that will lie for him as well?
anyways, i think we should all get ready for obama’s nomination, because without some kind of hail-mary/miracle he looks like he will be the nominee
lets get ready for more wisdom from karl rove, that guy is a genius and his insight is terribly important for our country (he’s a straight shooter)
don’t turn this into a strictly anti-obama blog
Rest assure, I, for one, will never vote for Hussien Obama. I came to this country 11 years ago in search of the American Dream. But it turns out the First Lady wannabe wasn’t really proud of this country until her husband ran for presidency. Well, maybe I should just leave.
And jason_in_sf, one advise to you if Hussein Obama gets elected, short more US stocks. Because this country is going down.
Rove is no genius! He’s a cheating gutter political adviser that lost nearly every election he campaigned for. It was directly due to ignoring his advice that the democrats swept the elections in ‘04, with even the democratic governors races being won…thank you Rove for being so stupid. Hopefully, sooner or later the man will be in prison if justice is ever served. Pointing out facts (not accusations) is not being anti-Obama. What the hell is with you people. If Obama tripped and fell and someone said Obama tripped and fell, it’s like we’d hear stop making fun of Obama’s coordination. Obama is being attacked, is this all the Clinton campaign can come up with?, etc.. Can you not accept discovering anything about a candidate without getting defensive. You are so protective that you refuse to turn around and look. It’s up to us to change our candidates for the better not ignore their defects of character. I’m not anti Obama, I want to see all I can about him.
The word ‘believe’ appears four times in this post, including comments. Guess what, 3/4 appears in one comment, and it happens to be from a Hussein Obama supporter.
I urge everybody here to do a random counts in internet blog comments, Hussien Obama supporters tend to use the word ‘believe’ a lot. That tells us something, right?

Plagiarista,
i hate to break it to you but i am sure faux news (not you) coined the phrase ‘Hussein Obama’
so i think you are wrong saying your post was 100% yours
at a miniumum you are mis-representing (ie not authentic)
doh!
-jsf
jsf, that’s the only thing you can think of? Well, I am not surprised you support Hussein Obama now.
BTW, the phrase Fox News coined is B. Hussein Obama.
It’s a shame that supporters were too busy falling for the personality to see the person. We must find a way to make these candidates accountable to us…to listen to us…because they are just not that progressive. So far we’ve been made to hear what they want…what they plan…when will they listen to what we want, to what we think they should do. We aren’t electing kings and queens here but representatives, of us and of our party. Our current elected officials stopped listening to us or to our polls and are acting out of their own personal beliefs rather than what we say we want them to do. How can anything change if they refuse to hear us, the people and listen only to the media and the lobbyists? We are the government and they are supposed to represent us in its operations. The legislature and the judicial rush to cover and legalize or conceal the executive’s lawbreaking no matter what the people say. But unfortunately supporters are too busy cheering and applauding and chanting to ask questions or demand answers and this is the time when we actually have some influence with our vote. Why are we just accepting that this is the way it must be because this is what the candidates are offering. We want to be able to fire you or not hire you if certain conditions aren’t met. It’s like hearing, “but you said you loved me”…”I did, then, for a brief moment ..now will you shut up and get out of my house”. It’s about what Pelosi’s constituents hear. “Yes we can what?” “No you can’t do that and get away with it”. Stop just accepting everything without question?
All these comments do is point out how this story was incorrectly framed from the beginning. Here we are discussing plagiarism when we should be discussing the similar campaigns of 2 candidates. Obama supporters are in a frenzy over what they see as fresh candidate with vision. All Hillary’s campaign needed to do was to demonstrate that this is not true. That another guy rode into office on the SAME campaign and the same speeches. If that isn’t a problem for some, then how about a little discussion about Deval Patrick’s first year in office. Now maybe the Democrats don’t care to do this, but I’ll bet you a dollar to a donut the Republicans will. Thereby destroying the false notion that Obama stands the best chance of winning in Nov.
I’m a Hillary supporter, but I am now outwardly critical of the way she has campaigned. Her communications person SUCKS! So many missed opportunities and just plain WRONG responses.
And it appears that the voters in Massachusetts were also thinking about the similarities between Obama’s campaign and Deval Patrick’s campaign, with the benefit of having experienced a year with the resultant fall-out of Patrick’s wish for a pony and dream the impossible dream campaign. Those voters rose up and bucked their Senators and other leaders, and loudly proclaimed “we won’t be fooled again” (the WHO)
