Obama’s Dirty Tricks in Texas and Ohio

UPDATE x3:Ohio Flooding: Some Polling Places Moved, Lots of Cross-Over Voters,” Jeralyn Merritt, TalkLeft (Jeralyn is on top of this, thank god, especially since she is an attorney and media adviser.)

UPDATE x2, 1:46 p.m. PST: “UPDATED STATEMENT FROM OHIO FOR HILLARY STATE DIRECTOR ROBBY MOOK ON TODAY’S VOTING

Voters Can Call (888) 472-9470 To Report Irregularities At The Polls” (The rest of this memo is at the end of the story.)

Original: GET THIS STORY OUT. TELL EVERYONE. If you are on the ground in Texas or Ohio, and notice any irregularities, you can report them to the Clinton campaign via this form: “Polling Problems.” UPDATE: Ben Smith at Politico.com is reporting that “Ohio official rejects Obama poll-watcher letter.” (”An official in the office of the Ohio Secretary of State has written local election officials instructing them not to accept an Obama campaign letter (.pdf) as sufficient documentation for poll-watchers to polling places. …”)

Jeralyn at Talkleft has the breaking story, “Dirty Tricks in Texas and Ohio?“:

I’m receiving reports that contrary to Texas Democratic party caucus rules that preclude registration forms from being submitted before either 7:15 pm or the last vote at a precinct has been cast, Obama volunteers are handing out the forms at precincts today and asking people to fill them in and then collecting them. For Obama to submit the forms on the voters’ behalf without the voter physically being present at the caucus would violate the rules.

Jeralyn, an attorney who’s a legal expert for the media, cites the rules:

Participants may NOT begin signing in until the precinct convention has been called to order. The call to order may not occur until 7:15 p.m. OR whenever the last voter finishes voting at that polling location whichever is later. If, after the convention has been called to order and participants have signed in, any participant who wishes to leave may do so, and their sign in WILL count toward the delegate allocation for each candidate. Sign-In ends when the last person present waiting to sign in has done so.

Jeralyn asks any Texas voter who has witnessed this to let her know. Then she cites more on the rules and includes some “disturbing reports from Ohio.” Read all.

KEY: We need you to get this story out. Far and wide. We also need you to find more instances, and to report them in the comments below.

===========

Just an additional reminder that there will be bamboozling:

That’s the most telling video, and it’s from my piece, “There Will Be Bamboozling” and from my heartfelt confession to Hillary supporters about getting the Obama message BIG TIME, “The Choice (But I’ve Been Touched).”

UPDATED STATEMENT FROM OHIO FOR HILLARY STATE DIRECTOR ROBBY MOOK ON TODAYS VOTING

Voters Can Call (888) 472-9470 To Report Irregularities At The Polls

COLUMBUS , OH Ohio for Hillary State Director Robby Mook issued the following statement regarding today’s voting:

As Ohioans head to the polls today, were seeing high turnout across the state despite bad weather.

It is inspiring to see so many Democrats turning out to vote today, and we encourage everyone to make their voice heard in this election.

While we expect voting to run smoothly, we have heard troubling reports of irregularities and inappropriate behavior by Sen. Obamas campaign across the state. We continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that all voters rights are preserved.

According to the Atlantic Monthly web site, Ohio ’s Secretary of State, an office held by a Democrat, has rebuked Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign for trying to staff precincts with poll workers who presented insufficient credentials.

In Akron , a certified Obama poll watcher was removed by the presiding judge from Akron’s 4M precinct for aggressively challenging voters.

In Cincinnati , we have numerous reports that Obama poll watchers have been reprimanded after wearing campaign paraphernalia into polling places, in clear violation of election law.

We encourage all of our supporters to head to the polls today, as we continue to work with local election officials and the Ohio Democratic Party to ensure that no voter is disenfranchised. There is too much at stake in this election for Democrats to stay home.

Voters who witness inappropriate behavior or other voting irregularities are asked to call (888) 472-9470 or log on to www.hillaryclinton.com and report their experiences.

Just disgusting!!! He will try to act as if he “has no control” over what these people do, but I’m sure that he and the rest of his evil henchmen have been told to do what it takes…Thank God the msm is finally questioning him or this might have gone unnoticed. Great job on spreading the word about this!

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 15:55:59

Would this nullify the caucus results in TX?

It would seem sufficent grounds.

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-03-04 16:16:48

Unfortunately, don’t count on it. The Manchurian programmers and their fellow travellers want O-Bomba to win any which way he can.

But hope if they can get evidence — photos especially — of this going on, it’ll really shine an ugly light on his campaign. More the merrier, as every negative will bleed votes off of him.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 18:20:36

Unfortunately, don’t count on it. The Manchurian programmers and their fellow travellers want O-Bomba to win any which way he can.

Well, the point is to make enough of a stink, particularly if the accusations are true.

Obama is already DOA, he just looks goofier and goofier everyday, even worse than Bush. One hopes the democratic leaders will take a hint.

But electoral trickery, messing with elections, well, that’s real.

Comment by norrismorris | 2008-03-04 19:05:13

Not likely, as we speak Kerry was on CNN defending Obama and calling Canadian goof “exaggerated and unimportant”, and cried ” racist” at Rezko allegations and said it was Hillary’s fault.

He was for pushing Hillary out fast as possible. Powerbroker Democrat Worms.

Comment by Diana | 2008-03-05 11:49:58

Too bad for Obama that most Democrats lost all respect for Kerry when he refused to fight in 2004 for the voters in Ohio, after we’d all donated $$ to help with a legal fund for him.

What does Kerry stand to gain by doing all of this? Is it the quaint notion that Obama might choose him for VP?

Just as he has “no control” over Farrakhan’s endorsement of Obama and getting Nation Of Islam’s voters to vote Obama. He said at Cleveland debate, “I can’t stop anyone from voting for me”.

He’s evasive on Farrakhan, on Canada and NAFTA,
on Rezko, Exelon Nuclear, Present votes, Polling place intimidation, and would not talk to Chicago Press, his inability to convene one meeting of his Subcommittee on Foreign Relations, and so far he’s getting away with this garbage.

He refused to answer chicago press conference questions and cut and ran.

I love it! Clinton supporters learned well from the Grand Mistress of fraud and corruption. Go ahead and whine all you want—matter of fact, open that can of worms and see what happens.
Only way she will win the nomination is by her usual tricks of campaign fraud.
She can forget about being Obama’s VP. She’s not worthy of holding ANY office. She’s slithered her way through politics on her belly. She’ll do and say anything to achieve power.

Comment by chris | 2008-03-06 05:47:13

Surface some evidence, troll. Your lazy commentary may work at the Kossack sites but these are thinking folks, not propaganda targets. You’ll have to work a bit harder than smear invective. Is this your leader speaking through you?

Ah…”the politics of change” in action.

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-03-06 06:16:23

That seems to be more of a GOP troll. Because I’d like to consider Dems aren’t THAT cannibalizing of their own candidates. That’s sheer partisanship, typical of drivebys of another party.

There’s also a lot of so-called independents doing the same, but they’re anything BUT independents in thought (independents aren’t partisans, and take a nuanced approach to politics).

Comment by chris | 2008-03-06 06:40:54

Not so sure, I’ve encountered some Obama nuts in town recently and they despise McCain but have a solid hatred for Hillary that they cannot justify with anything but more invective. When asked…Why do you think that..”she just is” is about as articulate a response as I get.

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-06 07:42:01

This is in part what the no so subtle Obama’s message has been. If you listen carefully he has been trashing the Clinton Adm. and bundling it up with the last 7 years of GWB as the “same thing”. The Clinton Adm. was not perfect by any means but to say essenbtiall that everything is wrong and that essentially there has been nothing really good happening since 1985/Reagan creates a sense to such desillusion in people that I think is dangerous: it puts too much in him “as their savior”.

They “feel” so strongly for him that they hate the one person that may debunke their illusion of “the perfect”, the “only” one who can right every wrong.

You read over and over in blogs things like
“I have no doubts in Obama’s integrity” “I have no dounts he is saying the truth”
In one words they have no doubts about him at all, about anything. There is little in their minds one could question and they hate anyone that may shake that belief. HC ha sdon that well
and they hate her for that; for denting their dreams or endangering his rising. The hate it even more *because* she is a woman.

Poitics at the “grassroots” can been all passion and little thinking sometimes.

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-06 07:43:55

PS: And the MSM has helped them solidify that hatred — it has enabled, encouraged and supported “these feelings”.

Anyone who criticizes Obama is a racist or a race traitor. No one black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc. can criticize this dude. This shit WILL NOT work in the general election. The Republicans will turn this excuse against him and call him the affirmative action candidate. Obama needs to stop hiding behind his blackness and actually answer the tough questions.

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-03-04 17:40:28

The Republicans will turn this excuse against him and call him the affirmative action candidate.

Although, I’m not a Republican, I already called him an AA candidate — because O-Bomba got free rides all his life.

If I had half his breaks I’d be sitting in a ivory tower myself (and hating every moment of it, too).

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 16:47:19

The greater point is understanding Karl Rove does what he does because he doesnt see his decisions as real, feeling there will never be consequences, it’s all a great game.

Falsely calling someone a racist is wrong, but, you know, so what?

But this is the same thought process that ostensibly commits treason, spurring on a Marc Grossman, say, or Doug Feith, and this is the presidential contender that accepts money from a former Saddam henchmen, a thug convicted of bribing French oil executives.

Do they think there are no consequences, here, in the US, for them, as American citizens?

Yes, they do, that’s why they make the choices they do, choices that impact our national security, choices that impact every American, our notion of equality, the FOUNDATION and future of our government.

For real.

I’m glad there are people who still get it, but, boy, aren’t the girls making a mess?

When people like Kos, or Rove, or Obama, fail to see their choices as real, they open themselves to their enemies in ways they don’t understand(on a larger scale, think Chavez, and Colombia).

How else can I bait you into another criminal act, setting you up? How else can I play you, test your loyalty to AMERICA?

Doesn’t pay to take the low road, or the criminal track.

I’m a liberal, you know, and I was thinking yesterday, if I had a child, I would have no objections sending my child to West Point, say, because the American Constitution as Jefferson and Madison intended is worth fighting for…

A stinking hippie liberal, am I…

Comment by Diana | 2008-03-05 11:55:07

If refusing to vote for Obama means that you’re a racist, then why didn’t Al Sharpton or Alan Keyes become president already? Why didn’t those people who are calling us racists for not supporting Obama vote for them? What? I don’t care if they didn’t agree with their politics or liked another candidate better, they should have voted for them. They didn’t? How racist of them!!

See how ridiculous that charge is?

I don’t know what transpired between the two of you, and probably most others, to be even aware of the episode (I wish there was a way to track our posts even).

Then also be aware that there’s all stripes posting here. We all bring in our own political ideologies (I’m actually a moderate Traditional conservative, but not a Republican), and baggage (my motives to vote for Hillary [as a rare ERA supporter on the Right] isn’t the norm; nor the wish to cream McInsane and Neo-Cons like O-Bomba — the enemy of my enemy is my friend deal).

Politics has many strange bedfellows!

After Superior Bank collapsed in July 2001, the Office of Inspector General’s Feb. 2002 report concluded that “based on our review of the failure of Superior Bank it appears that some of the decisions made by Superior management rise to the level of insider abuse.”

Yet Barack Obama accepted a $1,000 campaign contribution on September 14, 1999 from then Superior Bank board member Penny Pritzker. And after naming Penny Pritzker to be his 2008 presidential campaign’s national finance chair on Jan. 31, 2007, Obama said that he was “proud that” the former Superior Bank official “has agreed to partner with me in this important venture.”

In reference to the collapse of Penny Pritzker’s Superior Bank, Office of Thrift Supervision Director Ellen Seidman told the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on October 11, 2001 that:

“The problem still could have been solved. The people who own this institution not only have the resources to solve the problem, but also had promised to solve it, and then walked away a mere week before the deadline, making it impossible to find an alternative solution…”
On that same date, then-FDIC Director John Reich also said:

“…I would like to stress that Superior failed because of its own actions. Its board, its management decided to pursue a risky lending and securitization strategy…I want to stress that the bank’s owners and managers bear the responsibility for the failure of Superior…”

According to the Feb. 2002 Office of Inspector General’s Report, Superior Bank’s management:

“1. did not implement OTS instructions to correct accounting ireegularities; 2. continued providing erroneous Thrift Financial Reports to OTs; 3. sold loans to holding company at less than fair market value, allowing to holding company to make an immediate profit of $20.2 million; and 4. extended credit to affiliates, which when added to the above loan sale to the holding company, totaled $36.7 million.

“The actions of the Board and executive management resulted in the transference of funds to holding companies, also owned by Superior’s owners, at the expense of the institution’s capital. This transference had the effect of unduly enriching those companies and, potentially, their owners.”

Related to the Pritzker drug family, Obama’s big pharma donor?

Interesting, as so many of those banks launder money.

My parents live in a suburb of Dayton and both went to vote earlier today. My father had no problems with his electronic voting machine. However my mother voted for Hillary and every time she went to back up she couldn’t and it was coming up that she voted for Obama. She had the poll worker (who she said was very nice) clear out her machine several times before her vote registered for Hillary.

Just want to put it out there.

We will see….

Comment by Billy | 2008-03-04 18:41:53

I’m an Obama supporter, but I like Clinton too. Everyone’s vote should count. Any chance that election inconsistencies should reflect more on the Ohio system than either candidate?

I haven’t found the whole story on caucus registration for Texas, so I don’t know about that; but why would Obama be responsible for bad voting machines in Ohio?

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 18:59:56

but why would Obama be responsible for bad voting machines in Ohio?

Obama’s campaign might be responsible, the googlebomb generation, and all that.

Or, as the republicans have been trying to isolate Obama as the DNC candidate, (as they feel he will be toast, easy to beat)they might have lent a helping hand.

So they may have mucked with the machines, and it being Ohio, they have a lot of experience.

I’m listening to an MSNBC report — but it’s backed up about 1-1/2 hours since i’ve been putting it on pause a lot. Interview with Secretary of State of Ohio.

ALSO, this report comes from Texas:

Reports of at least 10 instances of signing in people using Caucus Signup Sheets (Actual name is Exhibit A: Precinct Convention Sign-in Sheet) have been reported. The Texas Democratic party is aware of this illegal tactic to stuff the ballot box. People are not allowed to sign these sheets UNTIL the caucus is convened, and that will NOT start until 7:15 p.m. this evening.

John Oeffinger has asked that Texas volunteers be vigilant. Hillary tables are for signing in people by getting their names only, but please attempt to verify that this is ALL the Obama people are doing as well. Report any incident as soon as you discover it.

The violations are all suspected of being from the Obama campaign.

Sucked up first and then socked it to him, and let him know I was a soccer mom “bitch” (he laughed) I also mentioned that several weeks into the Katrina aftermath that he had said on air “Katrina had ripped off the scab of racism and poverty in our nation”. I mentioned to Chris that he had not covered the aftermath of Katrina since then and had helped put the scab back on the issue.

I also asked him why MSNBC never touches the Israeli Palestinian issue (I all ready know but thought I would ask anyway) He laughed and then got serious and said “I do not control the programming at MSNBC”

Memo To Ohioans Voting Today,

Here in San Fernando Valley, L.A., CA, many of us understand your concern over NAFTA. Scores of factories have jumped ship across the country. One in particular seared in our own local memory was the last auto plant in L.A. The GM factory in Van Nuys. Ever own a pre-93 Camaro? We built it here, right in the middle of ground zero for car culture on Van Nuys Blvd., the same street where Lucas filmed ‘American Graffiti’.

The factory closed in August ‘92 and went to Canada. Locally it was devastating. I could go on, but you most likely have your own local version of the same story. The extra slap in the face was the GM adverstising for the Quebec-built Camaro featuring the line, ‘from the country that gave us rock n roll’. WTF? The move pre-dated the ‘94 NAFTA, but it’s not a stretch to think GM saw it coming.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve no resentment towards Canadians. The problem is that, now the world’s largest new car market doesn’t even have a factory that actually builds cars. And that piece of real estate where they used to make them? It’s now a shopping mall which was named ‘The Plant’. One guess how the wages compare with wages of those who built all those Chevys.

Obama supporters would like to blame NAFTA on Clinton, while Clinton supporters naturally claim Obama’s record on jobs is worse. I’m not here to tell you how to vote. I’m sure deciding is no easier for you than it was for us. All I can recommend is that you get real information from real sources, because it matters. Just thought you’d like to know that, concerning your situation, we get it.

The fat cats who owned and managed manufacturing jobs in Ohio starting deserting union workers and others in the 70’s. My father (a teamster) and I used to endlessly argue when he would say back then “buy American”. I would repeat “the fat cats are leaving you guys behind) and sending your jobs over seas. This has steady path downward for the American worker has been long and steady.

The fat cats (Reagan, Bush, Bill) sold out the American workers.

I can’t tell you how many doors I have knocked on over the years where I hear similar stories. It used to take one person with a union job to make what two are making now. The only difference now is that many of these hard working families have a kid or another relative serving the fat cats illegal and immoral war in Iraq (contractors, Kellogg Brown and Root and the rest)

Bump and Update: The Texas Democratic Party sent out this directive (pdf)to both campaigns this afternoon cautioning against what I reported below. So they obviously heard it too, although the letter went to both campaigns, not just Obama’s.

Campaign workers, volunteers and/or supporters have obtained copies of blank sign-in sheets for precinct conventions and are having them filed in now with the desire of turning them in once the convention gets underway. These sign-in sheets are invalid and will not be considered in determining the allocation of delegates. See Tex. Dem. Pty. Rule. IV(B)(6).

Update: The Austin Statesman is now reporting on the alleged violations, without specifying which campaign is complaining or allegedly violating the rules.

Democrat Barack Obama — a candidate who’s confronted two of the most negative news cycles of his campaign over the past couple of days — said Tuesday that he’s “surprised” rival Hillary Clinton’s strategy of taking aim at the media has helped her campaign “as well as it has.”

“I didn’t expect that you guys would bite on that,” Obama told reporters aboard his plane, “this whole spin of just how the press just has been so tough on them and not tough on us.”

From cnn.com. Certainly nothing he had said or done had anything to do with the press coverage of the last couple of days. Certainly not.

In other words, what kind of putzes are you guys? Personally, were I a member of the press I’d be chagrined if not downright miffed after all the water I’d carried for the guy to be denounced as such a world class chump. But that’s probably just me.

He’s sort of smooth that way. In an adolescent way.

And what kind of competent professional lets himself be bamboozled by a stupid kid?

You gonna defend against a cut throat Russian with some empty headed Hollywood version of Ferris Bueller?

Right.

And Auchi isn’t a party to Baathist murder, and torture.

You see why those morons can’t make a good decision?

So.much.fear.

Hey All,

Any news on the returns?

Comment by Mel | 2008-03-04 18:43:39

Geez polls haven’t even closed yet and CNN continues their attacks for Hillary to give up even DNP Chair stated on CNN doesn’t want it to go to the Convention!

Comment by AF | 2008-03-04 19:09:15

Heard Dean said it will go to convention and that’s fine with him.

Good.

It leaves them an out if Rezko blows.

And even if it doesn’t, why the hell would the DNC support a terrorist enabler, one who does business with those who murder civilians, the world over?

Just what we need in the Presidency, another Bush.

Any word yet on Rezko’s trial, has the jury been selected yet? Will opening arguements be on tomorrow?

Will Obama be hit with another shocker this week or next from his political father?

Will Obama be hit with another shocker this week or next from his political father?

And will the democratic leaders confront the reality of the lightweight Obama terrorist connected scam they’re trying to sell as President?

We can only hope, before it’s too late.

And if they don’t, and Obama gets the nomination, versus McCain?

You will see American politics slide further into chaos, NOT good for the country, BUT, good in terms of destroying the Auchi-Saudi-PAC-Rove-Obama filth, in Washington.

And out of that, this cycle, hopefully, we can make progress, and we have, look at all the people here who are awake, and politically active, now.

And it is progress.

It is utterly incomprehensible how any party–and especially the Democratic Party–has primary elections/caucuses in place with the incredibly undemocratic rules of Texas. If we learn anything of this primary season, it is this: We need to completely reform and democratize these rules.
Unfortunately, this comes to late for Senator Clinton.

[...] Halperin (at Time magazine’s The Page blog) also reports that Obama sent a “mass e-mail to supporters says he was beaten by ‘attacks and distortions. . . stunts and the tactics that ask us to fear instead of hope’.” (Uh, what about your stunts, mister? Check it out here and here.) [...]

Hillary has lived with Bill’s mind games for so many years she confuses fact with fiction.
— “no Hill, you didn’t see what you thought you saw, that wasn’t me, no my hand wasn’t on her…, my car wasn’t parked at…, go back to bed, you’re sleep walking, that’s not really Monica, tomorrow you will wake up and this will all have been a bad dream. I love you.”

Does anyone really think she’s stable enough to run the country when she has no control in her own home? Take a look at the different personalities she has shown when she’s under pressure. One day she belittles Obama the next she’s honored to be sitting next to him, then she’s ranting and raving “shame on you Obama” followed by John and I are ready on day 1.
Oh yeah, we can’t forget condescending - the sky will open up…., followed by throwing the kitchen sink at him, and now are you ready for this? I think we would make a wonderful team!!!!!!!!!

Hillary, can you spell P-S-Y-C-H-O-T-I-C ?

I have no problem with a woman President, Hillary is just not the one.
NANCY PELOSI is the best choice for a woman president.
PELOSI for VP.

“NANCY PELOSI is the best choice for a woman president.”

You mean the Democratic Leader who disallowed Impeachment to be put on the table from before she got the helm of the House?

Your hatred is very borrowed. I haven’t read an original thought in your posts yet.

Your little narrative of comments shows you really have too much time on your hands. And you might not see how much of yourself you project here for the readers. But oh well, it is a free country and I’d hate to deny you your chance at being a gadfly without the ability to back up your shit.

You’ve bought into the headlines of TV, “different personalities” and all. Did you steal them from Cafferty or Olbermann or Hume? Funny when someone takes the high road and compliments a colleague from the Senate, and then is handed bullshit campaign flyers that even the printing campaign has to admit were not quotes from Clinton.

But, you go ahead and play your game. It is so original in its scope.

And it is clear from your post that you do have a problem with a “woman President” because you have now demonstrated who makes you feel safe, secure in your manhood.

Condescending? You might want to take a good look at yourself, you shithead. This lame post has no footnotes, no sources, just invective straight from your bundle of stored up hatred.

Come on, slick, show us your journalistic prowess.
