Ominous Signs For Obama
By NoQuarter on July 21, 2008 at 12:10 PM in Barbara Boxer, Democratic Nomination, Electability, Foreign Policy, Hillary Clinton, John McCain
Today’s Rasmussen Reports analysis finds:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 42% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. That’s the lowest level of support measured for Obama since he clinched the Democratic Presidential nomination on June 3. Obama’s support peaked at 48% with data released on June 8, 9, and 10. During that same time frame, McCain’s support has remained steady in the 40% to 42% range (he’s had just one day a point below that range and two days a point above it).
When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 46% and McCain 45%. With leaners, Obama reached 50% support in mid-June and was at 48% or 49% every day from June 13 until July 10. Since then, he has reached the 48% level just once while polling consistently at 46% or 47% (see recent daily results). Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.
McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of voters, Obama by 53%. McCain is currently supported by 86% of Republicans and holds a modest–four percentage point—lead among unaffiliated voters. Obama earns the vote from 77% of Democrats (see other recent demographic highlights).
There are also ominous signs in polling on foreign policy credentials:
Obama is currently on a European tour designed to bolster his foreign policy credentials here at home. Currently, voters trust McCain more than Obama on both national security issues in general (53% - 39%) and on Iraq in particular (49% - 37%).
You’ll recall our July 15th story, “Rasmussen Reports: Hillary Fares Better Against McCain”:
From the Rasmussen Reports analysis page:
McCain fares better against Obama than he does against two other prominent Democrats. New York Senator Hillary Clinton leads McCain by eight points, 50% to 42%. Former Vice President Al Gore, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000, leads McCain 50% to 43%.
Thank god there is still time for superdelegates to nominate Hillary Clinton.
You can get a handy list of the superdelegates to contact in Imv’s story, “ACTION! Contact These Superdelegates.”

Very ominous indeed, especially for the height of summer, when Dems typically dominate in the POTUS polls…
What a loser.
Hillary is the only viable Dem this year.
I still think that poll didn’t take in to account all the NEWLY unaffiliated that changed SOLELY to NOT vote for the liar Obama and will mostly vote to keep him from winning if that means in some states pulling the lever for McCain? SO BE IT!
NOBAMA
N E V A
This would be ME - I’m one of the newly unaffiliated. So, when they count their democratic party numbers, how old are their numbers? From 2004? 2006?
There are lots of us.
I am still a registered Democrat. I’m not changing my affiliation…at least not yet.
I’m not voting for Obama, either.
Same with me. I am waiting for the dog and pony show in Denver. Once I see how things play out at the convention, I will make my decision. Actually, I think I have made my decision already. I will leave the Democratic Party this year, either immediately after the convention, or after the general election since I don’t want to jeopardize voting against Obama in November.
If Hillary somehow gains the nomination, then it’s off to the races. Hillary all the way!
texas darlin this is why Obama dispatched the 3 stooges from the major networks to bolster his Foreign Policy credentials.
Some states don’t even require you to register with a party, such as mine.
here is more ominous data from pollster. It shows current Obama position relative to McCain in all 13 swing states. Ominous indeed.
EV
Colorado + 3% 9
Florida - 2% 27
Indiana - 1% 11
Iowa + 6% 7
Michigan + 9% 17
Missouri - 1% 11

New Hampshire +11% 4
New Mexico +10% 5
Ohio + 4% 20
Pennsylvania +10% 21
Wisconsin +11% 10
Virginia + 3% 13
great cartoon
Thanks. I really needed a laugh! And it is reassuring to know that I am not the only person who has had this thought. Good thing they sit behind desks!
The fact that the poll shows that the public thinks the media is promoting Obama could really backfire on him. Thank God people are finally waking up. I hope they are also starting to realize that they sold Bush in 2000.
Depressing to see NM …with all the military personnel here…
Missouri was trending McCain a few weeks ago…I wrote about it July 2…

The state polls, of course, are the ones to watch.
However, all polling has its biases, deliberate or not and you aren’t always comparing apples to apples. Polls interview differently…do they poll “likely voters” (and what are they?); registered voters (a much broader group); “leaners” (who are leaners?)
Survey USA does state polling–and they “weight” their polls AND their site states that they are owned by “news journalists.” Who owns Survey USA?
Are the numbers from Survey USA only or from different sources?
They are pollster numbers, which are a time-weighted average of all relevant polls.
I completely agree that polls are biased, or at least inaccurate; especially the low sample rate ones used at this point in the election. And state polls are not doe all that frequently, so they do not reflect up-to-date trends. However, they are all we have in terms of data, and they go a long way to refute the main argument expressed on this site that Obama can’t win in November. By all data we have, he is very close or ahead. Given that, there is absolutely no way the SDs at the convention will vote against the majority of the pledged delegates and award the nomination to Clinton. If Obama was 20 points back, maybe. But no way it will happen the way things are.
Given that, the people on this site should be more upfront about what they want. They want McCain to be the next president. Which is fine. Lot’s of people feel that way. But as they say here, “own your candidate” and maybe put a bit of effort into trying to build McCain up instead of being exclusively negative. The 100% negative approach is so unhealthy in the long run.
Thanks for your concern, Ted. It’s just too bad that Obama threw universal health care under the bus. It would be so much easier to treat our negativity if he hadn’t done that.
Rasmussen is the only poll showing Obama up by 11 pts in NH. Every other poll places him around 3 pts.
Strategic and Rasmussen have McCain ahead in FL by 8 pts. McCain is averaged ahead on RCP by 2 pts.
Obama’s lead in IN has slipped a half pt. making him and McCain virtually tied.
Ditto VA, though Rasmussen puts McCain ahead 1 pt.
Rasmussen, puts McCain ahead 5 pts. in MO. SUSA has him at 7 pts. and PPP(D) says 3pts.
In NV, Obama’s lead slipped to 2pts.
SUSA has Obama ahead by 3pts. in NM and Rasmussen says 8 pts.
McCain has a 1 pt. lead in OH according to Rasmussen, while most other polls place Obama at a 2 pt. lead.
None of these polls show anything but a dead heat, so I don’t know why you’re posting whatever cooked up polls you’ve got or crowing about his lackluster performance.
Oh boy, glad to see Delusion World is still as delusional as ever. You guys should sell tickets for the psycho spin you put on everything.
By the way, the daily GALLUP poll has President Obama at 47% to McSame’s 41%. Too bad that McSame goaded President Obama into the World Tour that he is on….looks like McSame will get beat worse than ever now…
Sucks to be in Delusion World when you could have been on the O-Train!!!
if YOU’re on the O train, you had better jump! The bridge is out ahead…..
It’s Obaminous!
I’d be so delighted if the Democratic Party had the courage to rethink their folly in annointing BO, but I’m not very hopeful.
I think the arrogance of BO is what will sink him. He’s overseas acting as though he already won the election. It sounds like he is talking (instead of listening). In essence, it appears he is campaigning overseas. His campaign has banned signs and banners at his “big speech” in Germany. He has that crass new campaign jet. He issued a dress code to his press entourage (mostly aimed at the females) for the Middle Eastern leg of the trip. (I know you need help dressing appropriately, sweeties).
They have to set up the smoke and mirrors in the proper place! Don’t be hating them for the show.
props include costuming!
pfft
Why do you think MO didn’t come with him? They didn’t want any pix of her with a scarf on her head and then she couldn’t wear her oversized beads and sleeveless sun dresses.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see less of her, even after he returns. She may now be classified as a “distraction” to his “tightly wrapped message”. What do you think?
Yeah it can’t possibly be because they have two young children at home and it probably wouldn’t be the best idea to send both parents into a war zone. Just a thought.
I actually did not expect her to go overseas with him, the Middle East leg is a part of his official duties as a senator. As for the European leg, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be natural to have her and the girls there.
I am commenting on what her role will be when he returns. She may be keeping a low profile now as to not distract from his big World Tour.
Her poll numbers are tanking thus the new makeover, the new chief of staff, and the new speech writer.
People are getting tired of hearing her call them lazy, immoral, unmotivated, and uninvolved.
She has been put on the shelf as they say until after the election.
MO needs to Stop the Hate!
Michelle Obama is employed outside the home at the University of Chicago hospital. She is currently on leave of absence. Since Obama has been so great in getting money earmarked for Michelle’s employer they apparently don’t mind if she isn’t at work.
So the fact that Michelle has two young children has not stopped her from being away from home before. And her mother takes care of the kids, or so she says. You are just trying to make excuses for her. She is NOT a campaign asset for Obama.
Not to mention the cost. Was Cindy with McCain when he went to Iraq? Of course not.
Bill and Hillary Clinton did it when they took Chelsea to Bosnia.
Duh, she didn’t come because it is a congregtional delegation…don’t think that she is an elected official….
Cindy McLame did not go either, but then again she was probably out charging up her credit card to $750K ( you know how they understand your pain at the pump)…
When Michelle Obama gets more goodies from her husband’s crooked earmarks, she can buy herself some more $600 earrings and mansions they can’t afford. I guess Iraqi food for oil money just had to tide them over. Gawd. It sucks to have Cindy’s line of credit. She just dumped her stock options in Budweiser like many American investors just in case Obama gets a swing at doubling the capital gains tax. Made a cool million.
Perhaps you can be her hired help…you know, get the crap from between her toes…
Naw they are preening her for first lady’ putting that lipstick on:

Michelle Obama Visits Denver, Named Co-Chair of Delegate Service Day Along with Jeannie Ritter
Posted by Chris on July 16, 2008
In her first visit to Colorado since her husband clinched the nomination, Michelle Obama made a stop in Denver today and greeted representatives of the DNCC and leaders from Denver-area volunteer organizations who are coordinating Delegate Service Day on Wednesday, August 27. Today, the DNCC announced that Michelle Obama and Colorado First Lady Jeannie Ritter will co-chair the effort.
indy — I think some Democrats are doing their best to sink Obama. How are all these negative stories about Obama coming out if someone wasn’t feeding them to the media? I think the polls are way worse than what Rasmussen suggests because they don’t include the millions of Hillary Supporters voting for McCain. There could be upwords of 10 Million Democratic voters who will not vote for Obama. Not all are members of PUMA some are just Democrats who favor McCain in these troubled times.
Also, I don’t know if you read it but Obama is not helping Down Ticket Democrats. He doesn’t support them as most Presidential Nominees do. You always see a Presidential candidate standing with various state office holders when he makes a speech — not Obama. He blows into a town to collect his money and make a speech and then he’s off.
He has also shown his arrogance by dictating to the Party and by not returning phone calls from Dean and Pelosi and other top Democrats. Many in the Party find him an insufferable bore who is impossible to work with.
S. Hall–
“He has also shown his arrogance by dictating to the Party and by not returning phone calls from Dean and Pelosi and other top Democrats. Many in the Party find him an insufferable bore who is impossible to work with.”
Wow, is this TRUE??? Where did you see/hear this? This could be huge… He really has taken over. I have never seen anything like his arrogant attitude as a candidate. Like he’s already WON the election, never mind not yet nominated!!!
Join the thousands who have taken the pledge:

RISE HILLARY RISE!
S. Hall.,
I don’t believe things unless there is a good source, you are not providing that. As far as I am aware Dean and Pelosi are hidden way up his body’s cavity and haven’t come out for air. Dean and Pelosi are deeping committed to him, because if they weren’t , Hillary would be receiving hundreds of apology calls by now. Which I doubt she is.
Politico reported on this.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11750.html
Someone also posted a link about how Hispanic organizations in FL are upset with Obama trying to transfer local power to Chicago. Maybe a look through the past two weeks threads will find the links. It was interesting, since Obama is going to try for FL again. His NV, NM, CO, OH and VA efforts are yielding little fruit.
This was reported on Politico actually, that Dean and Pelosi as well as other Congressional Democrats, were PO’d with Obama because he was changing policies without telling any of them and they were being caught unaware of the changes and were being torpedo’d. Go to Politico.com and look it up. It was a pretty harsh critique.
Good day, s. hall!
I don’t think the polling data reflects an accurate picture either, I think McCains numbers are probably better (and BOs worse).
The thing is, no matter how poorly he is treating down-ticket dems, local dem offices, and the people who declared his victory on the final day of the primaries-what is their out? What courage, honesty or conviction have they displayed? I just don’t think they have the courage to reverse course…they’ve already gone ahead with the Mile High stadium plans for the speech of speeches.
The negative stories may be a way to poke him in the side, but I’ll be absolutely astounded if they put Hillary into nomination and/or allow her to accept the nomination.
I’d be happy and relieved if Hillary was on the November ballot-I just don’t see it happening.
Can you tell us how you know this?
Poor Obama. On his Evita-esque Rainbow Tour. And his numbers keep falling.
Obama Obama Obama (to the tune of Evita Evita Evita)
People of Argentina…
…Your Newly selected President Barack Obama Evita Peron.
Wa Po reported today that the foreign press is upset with The Possum King, because he won’t deign questions or interviews. No room on the plane, either. That’s what really got them mad. Typical American Tourist.
Republicans will all gather around McCain–even James Dobson is falling in line. They always do.
Democrats are too disgusted with their party to be counted on. It is defnitely NOTthe party I signed up for many years ago.
That’s not the DNC I knew.
That’s not the DNC I knew, especially since they moved to Chicago.
This is how a political party ends when its elites willfully sell out its constitutency.
But it is the party that said they didn’t want or need old guys like me in their “New Democratic Coalition.” So I’m happy to accommodate them, at least for this election.
For the first time in my adult life, being 43 ancient years old, i was made to feel like an old person when they said that.
I woke up today and looked in the mirror and i realized, hey wait a second, i am not that old, i am not buying the shit they are peddling anymore.
jeremiah — Come October they will be begging us to vote for this loser. Pride Goeth Before The Fall.
Jeremiah…..you’re 5 years younger than Obiteme.
BO is like the door to door salesman that shows up with a freezer full of pre-wrapped beef. All for the low low price of;
Nein, nein, nein, Gott verdammt Amerika!!!
What I find amazing is BO saying Afghanistan is “precarious”.
1) NO shit! But he did not need to make it a political football Lives are at stake.
2) Telling the world Iraq is a distraction and Afganistan is in trouble maybe valid, but the fact that is disturbing is the aid and comfort he is providing in terms of propaganda for the “enemy” , just proves once again that BO is incapable of displaying any judgement skills.
He is there to listen and learn. It does not require immediatte comment.
If anything, I would think BO might say, ” I will reflect on what I am being told and be open and honest in responding to the facts as they are.
In both countries, the US has bugged out in the past, leaving many people to suffer in the wake of proxy wars. They would right to not be so trusting of the level of sustained US commitment when looking at BO. He has flip flopped on some very key issues.
If you where reading reports of this as an Iraqi or Afgani, I would conclude that the writing is on the wall. Time to make other plans.
Funny, BO did not once mention, that I have heard reported, the Opium production in Afganistan, which is a major problem for funding arms sales.
I wonder how much of Auchi’s profits are paid in blood. I wonder how much of an interest he has in BO’s land trust.
I wonder how much of Auchi’s profits are paid in blood. I wonder how much of an interest he has in BO’s land trust.
The biggest obstacle to declaring victory in Iraq is that country’s government corruption. As long as they’re skimming profits off blackmarket oil and stuffing their pockets (like Auchi did), they will continue allowing us to police their country and pay to rebuild it. Do you think given Obama’s association with the Crown family, GE and Auchi, he’s got to shut down the feeding trough? Nothing in his past suggests he would.
Well, you are just “mature” for your age. We oldsters can smell it coming cause we’ve had lot of experience with bs.
And I’m 52 and have far more work and professional experience than NoBama has. They don’t need us? That’s just fine. We’ll accommodate! No votes for the plastic messiah. No money for the plastic messiah. No money for the DNC.
They made their bed, they can lie in it.
PUMA!

And I used to think that progressives are smart.
Obama BAD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duzu0hmW6pY
I use to think the progressives were on the right track also. They have been derailed by the American Idol foolery.
roseeriter — a couple of months ago a top Democrat said — we are tired of being the go-to party for all these constituancies. We want a younger, hipper party that doesn’t ask so much of us. Read that to mean — phuck Social Security and Medicare and Roosevelt’s Social Safety Net. I find it interesting that one third of younger voters are becoming Independent and that the young people are tiring of Obama.
And there’s that ‘thing’ about young voters not turning out. They didn’t turn out in ‘04 as predicted for Kerry.
Maybe they’re busy feathering their own little nests, trying to keep from paying social security, and not interested in politics, really?
Guess we’ll see in November.
LOL @ “what’s wrong with your browser”
right ON PErrY!
Spend a day listening to the self-proclaimed “Progressives” on Air America radio. That will end any notions you have of Progressives being smart.
It’s just hour after hour of the same Obama lovefest- Obama is a masterful politician, Obama is not a politician at all, Obama’s plans for Iraq are being adopted by every Right Thinking Person in the Civilized World, Obama is our Lord and Savior and will Lead Us To A Better Future…
Nonstop glurge.
Oh- and on Progressive Talk Radio, Hillary is still an interfering, whiny bitch.
Since I used to listen to Air America all day, I keep going back to check if they have possibly gotten in contact with reality. However, it is still always the same Obamabot propaganda.
Obama will not win. The Dems have a huge uphill battle when they run a decent candidate. Obama is not decent.
The dems are going with a 57 state strategy.
Those 7 extra states that John McCain wont be campaigning in or even on the ballet in will give Barry the needed electoral votes to win.
LOL, ahh so that’s the trick.
Yeah, the new Chicago-style DNC will invent 7 new states for BO and recognize only 43 states for McCain (a la MI & FL) in the upcoming GE.
This must be the new electoral map we’ve all been hearing about in the media–Obama’s new 57/43-State Strategy!
I know. McCain is so ignorant (must be his age) that he doesn’t even know those seven states exist.
Obama Adviser Cass Sunstein Rejects Prosecution of “Non-Egregious” Bush Crimes
As soon as the Dems failed to even attempt to rein in the Bush administration, I knew they simply were looking forward to all that power when they regained the White House. BO probably dreams about it (and expanding it to new levels).
They were victorious in 2006 because citizens wanted to restore checks and balances to the government. They failed us.
That’s why Pelosi and co. haven’t done jack shit about the Bush admin. They want to leave it all in place so they can use/abuse the same powers.
Obama is a power-hungry, puppet. What an ass!
The thought of obama and his thugs with presidential powers should terrify anyone with 1/2 a brain.
The USA has recovered from many things wars , depressions but God Help Us from This.
He and his thugs can never be allowed near the white house.
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMA RULES
Cass Sunstein was always being mentioned on Air America as a possible Supreme Court nominee. Wonder if there is any quid pro quo there? Sunstein supports Obama and gives Obama a legal cover against prosecuting Bush regime crimes; then Obama nominates him for the Supreme Court. Chicago style politics at its best.
Why am I not surprised?.
As if either party wants to show the American people that ‘dirty laundry is dirty laundry’, and is washed in the same front loader, that is DC.
Look on the bright side…now that BO has moved his “never-ending circus” to Chicago there is more real estate for K Street to lease on Pennsylvania Ave.
Obama has No idea of what he’s doing, the man is playing president and a bad one at that. Obama is showing the world what kind of President he would make, one that would duck debates and question from the voters, he would spend the tax payers money on ghetto seals, 26 rims on Air Force One. No economic knowledge, No foriegn policies experince. He would disenfrancise any voters of any state that didn’t agree with him withhold funding, He would use his civilian army (Nation Of Islman and Fruits Of Islman) to stop any dissent against him. Obama Odinga would be bad for America
Per Politico:
Obama’s Berlin speech, the German tabloid Bild reports, seems to be coming with all the message-control trappings of his American ones.
Fliers touting the speech reportedly bar signs and posters, as well as bags.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0708/No_posters_in_Berlin.html?showall
Barf bags??
lol! @ barf bags…..I was thinking since they prefer a younger “hipper” crowd maybe old bags!
Wouldn’t it be great if he gave a speech / event in Germany and no one came? See, if he were already president, he’d have brought in the troops from nearby bases to ‘people’ the crowd.
They’re doing the same thing Bush has done - it’s all planned, choreographed spectacle.
Disgusting.
FloridaDem - “They’re doing the same thing Bush has done - it’s all planned, choreographed spectacle.”
Since that is obviously the case, what we need is a photo of BO under his Siegesaule erection with a “Mission Accomplished” sign added (or maybe Fission, since he is managing to split the Dem party rather than doing any uniting?)
Maybe he can bus them in from Chicago, which he was apparently doing in the primaries.
*Islam
Sound like black clouds are looming over Flopbama.
Oh, I shouldn’t have used that word, I’ll be called racist.
No, that’s just a bad cliche. “Fred,” above, with his comments about “ghetto seals,” “26 rims,” “Fruits of Islam” and “Obama Odinga” — that’s racist.
You’re late to work again. And thank you for enlighting us on the subject of racism.
Black hole is now officially a racist term.
Obama Odinga? They’re cousins. Obama spoke with him during the NH primaries, recommended toe-sucking Dickie Morris as an advisor who then suggested a million-Kenyan march ala the Million man March which resulted in the slaughter of 1000 Christians as no one realized there would be no police protection for the protestors.
Obama is evidently not the slightest bit repulsed by his cousin’s plan to reinstate Sharia Law and force all women into Burkhas.
There is that race card again. How many jokers are in this deck?
SFhillary, come down of Telegraph Hill, once in a while ok?
We are all racist, according to Obama, it does make a great excuse for all his troubles??????
http://nativeamericansagainstobama.wordpress.com/
Michelle is not racist, not according to her thesis.
angry michelle — If Obama wins (God forbid) they will have to give us a Use and Care Manual as to what we can and cannot say.
It’s called the little red book.
Yeah, S. Hall, just think what we can look forward to: 4 to 8 years of discussing who or what is racist… instead of focusing on our myriad problems.
I’ve got no problem with discussions of race and racial equality, etc. from time to time, but Obama has used racism as a weapon against anyone who says a word against him.
What his campaign did to Bill & Hillary Clinton, finding racism in every word they uttered, is beyond disgusting. And, of course, they were aided and abetted by a more-than-willing media.
There is just no way I would ever vote for this pretender… and I’ve been a Democrat for 50 years!
Don’t forget the more-than-willing Obamabots who have bought into this vile crap. So, even if he loses, we’re going to hear this nasty racist bullshit from them for 4 yrs.
Sick of the bots.
Sorry, according to the great one that’s 8-10 years. Get with the program or you will be under the bus!
