We mock Obama, about whom Roger Simon wrote today: “[H]e seems like the guy who brings a Nerf bat to a knife fight.”
We mock that ridiculous O-Bomb-ahhh music video (like I care what Jessica Alba thinks, if that’s the word for what she does — “I would like to see a cleaner earth.” WOW! — or that first woman in the video (what in the hell is she on anyway?):
We mock Daily Kos’s Markos — courtesy of the aptly-named Cannonfire blog (and, yes, Kos himself really wrote two front-page stories about this utter nonsense, and the mouth-breathers left at his blog actually believe this c-r-a-p):

Kos himself has devoted two front-page columns to this nonsense. We should note that Markos Moulitsas (unlike yours truly) has no background in image manipulation, video production or advertising. Moreover, he seems to have lost his ability to fire up Google in order to do basic research.
The false accusation originated with a diarist who calls himself “Troutnut.” (A reassuring pseudonym if ever I heard one.) I take the liberty of reproducing one of Mr. Nut’s “damning” graphics. If you visit his page, you will have access to the actual Clinton campaign ad, which incorporates a shot of Obama originally taken from the Ohio debate, as broadcast on MSNBC.
[The Cannonfire blogger, an expert in graphics, takes several paragraphs to painstakingly explain why video file compressions and conversions distort images and unavoidably change the colors. Then he lays into Kos -- and THOSE ZINGER PARAGRAPHS ARE BELOW.]
Markos Moulitsas, you stand exposed as a fool.
You have disgraced your once-fine site. Indeed, Kos has devolved into an anti-Clinton smear machine — worse than The American Spectator, worse than Limbaugh, worse than Murdoch, worse than the Moonie press. (Shame on Americablog, as well.)
I did not vote for Hillary. Even so, I am appalled by the sheer unreasoning hatred festooning Daily Kos and other progressive blogs. I am even more appalled by false accusations of racism leveled against the Clintons by fanatical Obama supporters.
Moulitsas is the new Scaife, and Kossacks have become the new Freepers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Kos interview with Larry Nichols or Ken Starr.
The left has become the right. Facts no longer matter: When in doubt, smear.
(By the way, if you play back that overrated 2004 Obama speech, you’ll notice something odd: Not once does he criticize the decision to go to war. He criticizes Bush for not sending in enough troops!)

Yes, the Clinton campaign darkened the ad, or chose the darkest possible images.
Here we see the Kos strategem: When a lie is exposed, simply keep repeating it. Don’t bother with evidence. Just repeat. This tactic works for Limbaugh, Murdoch, Bush…and now Kos.
Let me state the facts very clearly, in language that even the most fanatic Obamabot can understand: THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN DID NOT DARKEN ANYTHING. THEY DID NOT CHOOSE A DARK IMAGE. THEY DID NOT WIDEN THE IMAGE. They are responsible only for what they broadcast, and the broadcast image was quite different.
The darkening and the PAR problem occurred when someone else uploaded the thing to YouTube. And the same problems occur with lots of other videos. That’s why I cited the example of the Obama Girl vid. In that case as well, the problem was with the codec used to compress the video for online purpose — not with the way the original video was made.
When another brave soul invited the above-noted moron to follow my argument, here was what the moron had to say about my examples:

If you really want to believe this, you need to get someone with a better clue as to how advertising is done and it’s component technology. And I would really stress this second part, find someone that isn’t a 911 conspiracy theorist.

Sorry to have seen the discussion bear down to that point. Sounds like a complete distraction from material issues.
He should have exercise better judgement before writing 2 front pages column on this issue. He has the responsibility that a background check should be done if the story is true or not.
what material issues? HIllary routinely puts out policy statements that are ignored on the news and not responded to by Barack. Just the difference in their ‘bombing’ policies and their exit Iraq policies should dominate the news, but they don’t. It’s about misrepresenting something Hillary has said to show it was awful and then Obama getting all outraged and the Hillary hate blogs exploding. Even Nancy Pelosi joined in pretending HIllary thinks McCain would be a better commander in chief than Obama. Like, excuse me, it’s not a McCain/Obama contest, it’s a HIilary/Barack contest, she her showing her strengths and highlighting their differences isn’t about what Nancy wrongly and I would say stupidly maintains. Fortunately there are still states to vote and these issues will be raised, by Hillary, of course, paid for with her supporters contributions, and not the news organizations.

The woman that appears at the beginning of the video is Zoe Kravitz; daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet.
Anneberg Fact Check analyzed the images too, and decided on Match 5, 2008 - “Some Obama backers cry “racism.” We find the accusation to be unsubstantiated.”
Anneberg also states in their report: “A final note: The last time we became aware of any clear example of digital manipulation was two years ago, when the Republican National Committee posted a Web image of Howard Dean with a hint of a little Hitler mustache. And charges of foul play were confirmed when the RNC posted a revised version, without the apparent mustache.”
And then last of all is their correspondence with Daily Kos reported this way:
“Update, March 6: We received several e-mails about our article that attempted to further the discussion. The two Kos bloggers who originally posted the story contacted us separately with thoughtful e-mails arguing generally that the matter deserves serious discussion but not challenging the substance of our article. what’s funny is that he hates to be compared to Bush, but only Bush and maybe Reagan, our ‘campaigning president,’ our ‘Teflon president’ had the gall to just keep repeating the same lies and break every promise. Remember, he said he wasn’t going to blame Hillary for ‘inciting racism’ but he keeps doing it. the reason he can’t fight back is that although she may mock him, she’s doesn’t lie about him and so he first must ‘interpret’ what she really means to manufacture outrage. Not so long ago he was inspiring hope, and now he’s only inspiring hate and outrage against her. It detracts from his no experience, no federal legislative accomplishments, no one cares, they just don’t like to see the dear lad picked on by that mean Hillary who keeps injecting truth into the contest.

The stuff about the video is just about the stupidest stuff that I have seen, totally irrelevant. In fact, here in the South where I am there are still a lot of older AAs and some younger ones who do not care for racial mixes so it becomes even more irrelevant and perhaps a favor to him.
Any white people who aren’t going to vote for an AA candidate, could care less what shade of black his skin color he is, he would still be on the wrong side of the color/race spectrum to them. It will make absolutely no difference whatsoever.
I am so dismayed with BO’s campaign and surrogates, they play the race card every chance they get. In Mississippi 70% of the registered Democrats are African American, similar statistics in Alabama and South Carolina, the AA community is voting very heavily for Obama, as they are in every single state pretty much, yet someone points this out and they are racist? Give me a break…use race when it suits you in whatever way.
I have lost all respect for DK. I have found a lot of new places to spend my time, this being one of them. I used to always learn from links that I followed at DK, now I learn from links here and a few other places. I’m so glad Larry posted the diary that got him banned.
The whole idea is to inflame AA voters into believing that the Clintons are racists. Don’t have to convince many just enough to ensure that most AA will vote for Obama out of disgust with Hillary Clinton if nothing else. It’s an ugly tactic. It’s an ugly bunch of people that do it. And it says all we need to know about kos and all his rabid Hillary hating followers. They are no better than the thugs they used to claim to abhor.
They don’t seem to be able to see their own hypocrisy in claiming Hillary Clinton would do anything to win while they do loathsome things like this. Guess when you scratch some ex-Republicans, like kos and Arianna, you find a Clinton-hating Republican underneath. As for the so-called “progressives” doing this crap, you need to find another designation for what you are; cause you sure as hell ain’t a progressive.

And the saddest part of ALL of this will be the backlash Obama’s campaign initiates.
A couple bloggers wrote some very pertinent information in regard to yearly kos, and racism, minorities being sorely underrepresented.
It’s not that I think that group of middle aged white men is overtly racist, I think they’re kinda slow, no empathetic skills. And it shows in the fallout of their attack plan, they’re losing ground, they have fucked up and they will not beat the republicans with a plan that is already growing mold, Axlerod’s weak derivative.
Kos never was about women or minority rights, he was about winning elections the mediocre corporate, consultant way. Using those abhorrent republican methods of divide and conquer is anathema to true democrats, it was bound to lose from the start. True democrats do not embrace racism, will not vote for those who use it as a campaign method. Maybe it was just the fifty percent plus one, but I don’t think the democratic base is there, for this strategy. It’s simplistic, and repulsive.
True democrats are about empowering those without voice, THAT is the best way to win elections, and maintain power, enabling the people, fighting for all, not selfishly scheming for a piece of the pie, the republican way.
Again I really have to question the judgement of those who would use a republican method of this sort, not even recognizing the backlash against Cheney, et al. Things did not work out for Bush, why would Obama’s group assume, even if they were to win, life in the presidency would be anything but embattled, given all the ill will they have earned?

neutrality. Sorry, but with the comments on DK and Americanblog, they deserve nothing less. I think there will be a time when the posts on both these sites will be made public as the legislation is discussed and make the case against them anyway.

What this points to is the real ambiguity of Obama’s racial/ethnic profile, his personal confusion about it and the opportunistic manner in which he politically exploits it.
He’s black when it is expedient for him to be so among the throngs of AAs desperate for validation in a possible victory that could have him wind up as POTUS.
On the other hand he can’t appear to be too black to all those red state white folks he swears are going to vote for him in Nov. What they are really admitting when they accuse people of racism and racist manipulation is their very deep fear that when these white folks get inside the privacy of the voting booth they won’t pull a lever for a candidate they perceive to be too black.
As an AA I’m about fed up with all of the mock outrage coming from Obama’s white supporters with regard to racism. I wish they’d display some genuine outrage over the Hurricane Katrina victims still trapped in formaldehyde trailers, the abject generational poverty that has condemnded low income blacks to the kind of housing owned by slumlords like Rezko and a failing educational system that offers no future which leads to joblessness, jail and homelessness.
Is Obama going to fix this? Well, geez, seeing as he walks on racial eggshells to the extent he doesn’t even address any black issues, giving AAs the same wink and nod that he gave to the Canadians with regard to NAFTA, how would we know? In other words, once he’s president everything will be ‘right on brothers and sisters.’

I’m with ya! I am so disgusted with this whole campaign and the stupid spats about what someone said. Yes, words do matter. But actions speak a whole hell of a lot louder to me.
I don’t give a rat’s ass what color a candidate is, I don’t give a rat’s ass what gender a candidate is, I wanna know what you’re gonna do for me. I wanna know what you’re gonna do for my granddaughters so that they compete on a level playing field. I wanna know what you are gonna do about the fact that half the damn manufacturing jobs, aka the good paying blue collar jobs, are now being done in China. That has nothing to do with NAFTA, CAFTA and is just SHAFTA.
I wanna know why our damn department stores have so few items made in this country. Can’t even find damn underwear made in the USA. China gets mad at us do we all go bare-assed?

I completely agree with Roger Simon’s piece and he pinpoints the key reason I’m a Hillary Clinton supporter in votes and contributions: She will FIGHT. What is one Democratic president against the bulwark of rabid Republicans in Congress, a right-wing Supreme Court and judicial system, and the countless hacks that the Bush Administration has planted throughout the civil service ranks?
Obama’s legislative record and unity shtick means one thing to me: He will be a first-rate compromiser who will cave in and go with the easy majority rather than breaking out the knives for any tough legislative fight. And if he wants to push through any progressive legislation, it will be a knife fight.
Unity and hope, my foot. Join the Reality-Based Community, people, and realize that while you’re sitting at the unity table, the Republicans will be setting bear traps to lure you into.

The honorable O has some negative stats in the white vote area MS 27%, LA 30%, TN 26% and AL 25%. This does not help with GA. The level of dissatisfaction (72% is 12 pts higher than Clinton) with him has grown as has the number of Clinton supporters who will not vote for him.

Sinbad, along with singer Sheryl Crow, was on that 1996 trip to Bosnia that Clinton has described as a harrowing international experience that makes her tested and ready to answer a 3 a.m. phone call at the White House on day one, a claim for which she’s taking much grief on the campaign trail.
Harrowing? Not that Sinbad recalls. He just remembers it being a USO tour to buck up the troops amid a much worse situation than he had imagined between the Bosnians and Serbs.
In an interview with the Sleuth Monday, he said the “scariest” part of the trip was wondering where he’d eat next. “I think the only ‘red-phone’ moment was: ‘Do we eat here or at the next place.’”
Clinton, during a late December campaign appearance in Iowa, described a hair-raising corkscrew landing in war-torn Bosnia, a trip she took with her then-teenage daughter, Chelsea. “They said there might be sniper fire,” Clinton said.
Threat of bullets? Sinbad doesn’t remember that, either.
“I never felt that I was in a dangerous position. I never felt being in a sense of peril, or ‘Oh, God, I hope I’m going to be OK when I get out of this helicopter or when I get out of his tank.’”
In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, “We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady.”
