Breaking: My grandmother is “typical” white person

barak-and-grandparents-small.jpgFrom Philadelphia Daily News:

Obama on WIP: My grandmother’s a “typical white person”
We thought we heard this, but we wanted to go back and listen to the clip of Sen. Barack Obama on 610 WIP this morning to be sure.

610 WIP host Angelo Cataldi asked Obama about his Tuesday morning speech on race at the National Constitution Center in which he referenced his own white grandmother and her prejudice. Obama told Cataldi that “The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know (pause) there’s a reaction in her that doesn’t go away and it comes out in the wrong way.”

We doubt this story will have legs, but wonder if Hillary Clinton referred to a “typical black person,” would we ever hear the end of it?

Did you see what that idiot McCaskill said? She said something like BO is the first african american male leader not to try to be a victim. LOL. Where’s the press?

Comment by John D | 2008-03-20 13:02:54

McCaskill just threw MLK and lots of African American civil right leaders under the bus.

Comment by mimi | 2008-03-20 15:57:50

This woman is stupid! And they said Hillary insulted the memory of MLK when she accurately stated that he signed the Civil Rights Act?

Where’s the outrage now????

When AAs realize just how terrible this bi-racial candidate has been for us, it will be too late.

Wow. I am a bit speechless. I can’t imagine calling someone a “typical black person” because it is the very definition of stereotyping.

I am starting to get the feeling Barack Obama has a fair amount of antagonism toward whites.

Comment by Mechan | 2008-03-20 13:21:06

Obama is the gift that keeps on giving…unbelievable!
I agree with you that he really does have a fair amount of antagonism towards whites. I’m flabergasted that he would say his grandmother has a typical white reaction that’s been breed into them. Rev it up another notch Obama!

Comment by Retired | 2008-03-20 13:32:34

Well, if you had been mentored by the Rev. Jeremiah White for 20 years, you might have a fair amount of antagonism toward white people, as well.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-03-20 13:37:52

He can’t can’t get away from it at home, considering Michelles’s disposition of “Give me something”,
(you typical white ,green, blue person)

Comment by Retired | 2008-03-20 16:18:00

Well, Teak, I wasn’t going to mention Michele, but since you bring it up, how would you like your wife to bitch slap you in public about your inability to put the breakfast butter back in the fridge or make up a tight bed? The two times that I’ve seen her in videos, she seems like a bit of a shrew. Of course, that’s Barry’s problem. Unless he is elected. Then we can look forward to the Jeremiah White-schooled Michele bad mouthing America world wide on international TV. Just what I am seeking in a FLOTUS.
By the way, I’m from the great melting pot of Southern California, and therefore raceless by definition. We classify people out here by: (1) their car, (2) their sun shades, and (3) their relationship to show biz. As for politics, we are all wondering: (a) when Barry O. is going to run out of toes, and (b) when they’re going to amend the Constitution so that a guy with a decent tan, buffed pecks and a good box office rating can be elected POTUS again.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-03-20 18:35:52

God Dam Butter! (It’s melting) :)

PS: When they find what’s left of it, Then they can amend it.

OT: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080320/ap_on_go_ot/airwaves_auction_winners

Once amended they might even let us hear about it.

What the heck is a ‘typical white person?’ I happen to be a unique individual.

Now you know how I feel. I happen to be a unique black person.

Barack Obama really is the gift that keeps on giving. If he gets the nomination, we might just see the first presidential candidate with just three electoral votes.

Barack is an ASS. His ignorance is finally beginning to show and his poll numbers will continue to drop precipitously.

Typical white person: one who sees through Obama’s bull shit

Atypical white person: one who is blinded by, or ignorant to, Obama’s bull shit

Comment by athena | 2008-03-20 13:33:36

Many of my blogs state that bigotry and hatred are the same whether coming the political left or right. I have received a number of responses from both independents and conservatives stating they are impressed by Democrats feeling this way and not supporting Obama just because he is a Democrat.

Comment by barbh | 2008-03-20 16:48:31

and it’s not limited to race, it’s about gender too! I notice that BO said nothing about gender in his speech on race. I guess gender isn’t important to him.

Comment by DCDemocrat | 2008-03-20 15:45:57

Since Barack got to tell you about his typically white grandmother, let me tell you about mine.

My grandmother was an elderly, short, hard-of-hearing, white uneducated Republican female who, though sweet as can be was afflicted with arthritis. I am a middle-aged, tall, white well-educated Democratic male who can hear well, trends toward irascibility, and has no sign of arthritis.

I guess the part that’s typical is “white”?

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-20 16:02:28

Someone put this in an e-mail:

Heh. What a minefield. He has skated along all this way with the frat boy message that he wasn’t going to make anyone feel uncomfortable about race, wealth or being Republican. Too bad about those ready-made 527 ads the MSM has been playing on continuous loop.

If Obama failed at the first rule of politics, to air your dirty laundry early and on your terms, he is also failing by the second rule: Americans see a campaign as if the sound were off on their TVs. Crazy-ass Rev Wright needs no sound to drown out all of those pretty words.

Comment by allimom99 | 2008-03-20 16:03:41

Correct me if I’m wrong, but last time I checked, there were still quite a few white people in Philadelphia, and even if the national MSM chooses to give him a pass on this, I bet they won’t locally.

this time he can’t blame it on a surrogate, as ir came out of his OWN mouth. Makes me wonder, how badly does he want to lose in PA anyway? I’m going to give some money to Hllary TODAY, and I can’t even afford it!

Comment by bob h | 2008-03-20 16:30:43

I’m sorry, but I do not believe Obama’s grandmother ever said any such things about black people. No grandmother would say such things with a black grandson.

Comment by Nathan | 2008-03-20 21:03:36

Here’s the full story: a panhandler attacked her and she was very much terrified afterwards, pleading with her husband to get a ride to work. Her husband told their grandson, Barack, that she was only scared because the violent panhandler was black. My God, this is a poor elderly woman and her husband and grandson felt more sympathy for the perp than her.

Comment by PMS | 2008-03-20 21:59:26

Don’t discount the idea that this is what Barack believes deep down. This is the crux of Jeremiah Wright’s teaching and preaching.

Folks, Obama hasn’t been attending that church, placing himself under the spiritual/political guidance (they are the same at TUCC) of Jeremiah Wright for 20 years without buying into it to some degree. This is probably what Barack Obama believes.

Things “slip out” when you are under stress.

Love it…is this the site for Republicans for Hillary I heard about?
About time…

Comment by Mechan | 2008-03-20 17:00:35

you comment was not necessary…I am not a Republican..I am a Democrat and have been for quite some time..I am for Hillary because I personally think Hillary is the only one that can get us out of this mess that the Republicans have gotten us into..
Yes, Obama is a democrat as well, but quite frankly, he has been self destructing….all on his own without anyone’s help…He did himself in when he dragged his poor grandmother into this mess…shame on him…I was taught to take responsibility for my own mistakes, evidently he hasn’t learned that lesson yet…shame on him..
Watch Lou Dobbs tonight at 6pm….he just said that he thinks Obama lacks maturity….ya think!

No this is the site where people are attacked and persecuted for refusing to ingest the politically, poisonous Kool-Aid being passed around as Mum’s Champagne on Huffington Post, Daily Kos and MoveOn.Org.

We don’t encourage suicide here. Thank you very much. Please leave your “We don’t need no stinking Billary Badge” in the garbage bin outside the Mensa Memorial Auditorium. No disguises are allowed.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated! :)

Imagine:

“Obama is making these comments because he is a typical African American person. We just have to expect this from blacks you know. You know how they really are and what they think of us.”

What if he spoke about Latinos or Asians like that? Would that be more acceptable?

Why are whites demonized now? Plenty of us out

Comment by Tricia Spiegel | 2008-03-20 16:53:37

How insulting of Obama to pick one individual to characterize White people!!! That just goes to show how he thinks in “pigeon holes” which is as far away from uniting as one can get!

I know that I am hardly the only white person to never have used an ethnic slur of any sort since my mother LITERALLY washed my mouth out with soap when I was 7 years old. And some are worse than White grandma, but I rarely run into any any more.

Yeah, hole digging for sure!

Comment by It'sNotMe | 2008-03-20 19:18:36

My jaw dropped when I heard this on Fox today! I then forced myself to tune into David Gregory to see if he would play the quote and HE DID!! This IS getting coverage and, IMCPO, Mr. Hope is toast.

“Typical white person?” Is there such a thing? LOL.

I hear he’s doing a media blitz to cover his ass. The more the man opens his mouth, the better Hillary looks. Blitz away, Mr. Hope!

Comment by Hope | 2008-03-20 19:47:07

He is beginning to really display his self-destructive side. This weakness would not be good in the WH. People will begin to disrespect him for this and consider him a loser.

Comment by It'sNotMe | 2008-03-20 20:00:21

But, but, but…he can always give one of his great, Hopeful speeches and make it all better! That’s been his Modus Operandi to date.

I think his so-called passionate words are wearing thin these days, in light of the hate monger and racist Wright’s sermons. I think Mr. Hope has finally been exposed…..at least to THIS “typical white person” he has been exposed. My eyes are wide open. They were opened in SC when they Swiftboated the Clintons.

Comment by Nathan | 2008-03-20 21:09:04

As long as they don’t ask him any questions he’d be fine. No scrutiny: that’s all he needs to “win!”

My City Councilmember (AA) was quoted in the local paper saying he hoped white people never moved into his neighborhood. My State Senator (AA) knowing he was being filmed, while attending a protest of illegal immigrants demanding drivers licenses was yelling repeatedly, “Whitey’s goin’ down.” My School Board rep (AA) only accepted my call because I have the same first name as a Black Panther activist & he voiced his disappointment upon finding out I was not who he initially thought… & went on to address me as “you people”. I interpreted all of the above as racist & unfortunately rather commonplace. Having really thought about it, I do NOT think Obama’s phrase “typical white person” is racist. You diminish your own argument with this type of intense nitpicking. But, hey, you’re just doin’ the dirty work necessary to continue the dynasty of the first “real” Black President.

Comment by ritamary | 2008-03-21 11:02:05

Let me get this clear in my mind. If you are wary of strangers on the street that makes you a “typical white person.” Does this mean that only white people are wary of strangers on the street? Actually I learned to “watch my back” in Chicago many years ago. And I taught my racially mixed children to watch their backs too. Is that how being wary of strangers is bred into white people? But wait, my children aren’t white so they can’t be wary of strangers. Maybe I should just wait for the expert on race relations Barack Obama to explain all this to me….
