Anatomy of a Smear
By Fleaflicker on March 21, 2008 at 6:55 PM in Bamboozling, Barack Obama, Current Affairs, Hillary Clinton, Kosovo
During Senator Obama’s much touted March 18th speech on race, he spoke the following words:
For we have a choice in this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division, and conflict, and cynicism.
I won’t finish the quote because anything after it is a lie. But at least he started by telling us the truth.
This most recent episode began shortly after Obama’s big losses in Texas and Ohio. His campaign had lost its momentum and decided on a sure fired, tried true and tested strategy to take out Hillary. They were going to smear her.
As reported at Bucknaked Politics:
“New” Politics? Obama
“Punching” and Pushing for Hillary to Drop Out immediately following Obama’s losses campaign manager David Plouffe implied that Hillary should drop out of the race. In an email to “supporters Plouffe offered that:
“It’s clear, though, that Senator Clinton wants to continue an increasingly desperate, increasingly negative — and increasingly expensive — campaign to tear us down.
Yeah, that mean ole Hillary pointed out that Obama lied to the voters of Ohio about NAFTA. In fact he lied at least four times about it. Yes, this campaign is getting expensive. Expensive for the American people if they don’t pay attention to what Obama really has in mind. And as is typical fashion for the Obama campaign when faced with embarrassing revelations that punch holes in the hope hype, they quickly change the subject.
Mr. Plouffe’s email continues:
“We can debate John McCain about who can clean up Washington by nominating a candidate who’s taken more
money from lobbyists than he has, or we can do it with a campaign that hasn’t taken a dime of their money because we’ve been funded by you.”
The message to this is clear. Obama attempts to link Hillary with the special interests and Mr. Purity with, well, purity. You might say he is as pure and as white as snow. Well you probably don’t want to say that. But wait a moment, Bucknaked politics continues:
I must interject yet again. Perhaps Obama hasn’t taken money directly from lobbyists, but one of his campaign co-chairs is a pharma lobbyist. When asked about it at a debate, Sen. Obama got caught on videotape saying “That’s not true” — when it was true. Also, Sen. Obama essentially took an interest-free loan from a political player in Chicago who now faces a criminal trial. The transaction might have been perfectly legal — might be business as usual in Chicago — but it doesn’t evince clean hands or “new politics.”
In case you need this defined let me break it down for you. Obama apparently has a habit of lying. And he has no compunction about lying to the American people in a televised debate. He not only lied about lying about NAFTA. He also got caught lying about lying about not having a lobbyist working directly for his campaign. Oops!
According to Boston.com in a January 6th article Lobbyist/Obama NH Chair enters national conversation
One of Barack Obama’s four New Hampshire co-chairs, who is also one of the state’s most prominent lobbyists, entered the conversation of the Democratic presidential race last night with this phrase from Hillary Clinton at the debate: “When it comes to lobbyists, you know that Senator Obama’s chair in New Hampshire is a lobbyist. He lobbies for the drug companies.” “Not true,” said Obama. But it is true.
You see, Obama’s New Hampshire Co-Chair is a man named Jim Demers. He has his own lobbying firm called The Demers
Group.
He is respected by legislative leaders from both parties and is relied on by reporters to be very knowledgeable with the latest statehouse rumor or how pieces of legislation are moving. He is also a frequent Democratic analyst for WMUR-TV.
He gives thousands in contributions to the state Democratic Party and Democratic campaigns. In 2004, he headed up campaign for Dick Gephardt in the state. And to aid in that effort Demers purchased an RV from eBay that he then drove around the state with Gephardt to campaign events.
And that “interest free” loan being discussed above. That was from that jailed political fixer Rezko. Seriously, you can’t make up stuff this good.
But wait… it gets better.
On the sting of his decisive defeat on March 4th the Obama campaign apparently in a top down approach decided to come out swinging. In a New York Times article on March 6th Lesson of Defeat: Obama Comes Out
Punching, Obama decided to question whether Hillary had actually been vetted.
No really, I am NOT making this up.
“She’s made the argument that she’s thoroughly vetted, in contrast to me,” Mr. Obama said to reporters aboard his campaign plane. “I think it’s important to examine that argument.” Mr. Obama took aim on Wednesday at Mrs. Clinton’s claim that she is a seasoned hand in foreign policy. “What exactly is this foreign experience that she’s claiming?” he said. “I know she talks about visiting 80 countries. It is not clear. Was she negotiating treaties or agreements or was she handling crises during this period of time? “My sense is the answer’s no.”
Then over the course of the new few weeks the Obama campaign has made it a daily talking point to question whether Hillary actually had anything to do with peace in Northern Ireland or helped in any way to get the border open in Macedonia during the Balkan War. Of course the first thing the Obama camp did was trot out that destitute David Trimble who called Hillary’s claim: “a wee bit silly.” And if they were able they would have that be the last word.
But fortunately for the rest of us there were a number of character references of great distinction supporting Hillary’s position. Not the least of which was John Hume, one of the actual architects of the good Friday Agreement.
“I am quite surprised that anyone would suggest that Hillary Clinton did not perform important foreign policy work as First Lady. I can state from firsthand experience that she played a positive role for over a decade in helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland.”
And no less than Ian Paisley, Martin McGuiness and Gerry Adams back up this recollection. And if their words were not enough please consider the words of the Prime minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern. In an article in The Times Tribune Ahern says Hillary ‘hugely helpful’ in peace process
Mr. Ahern called Mrs. Clinton “hugely helpful” in the process both as First Lady and as a U.S. Senator, and suggested some of the criticism of her are unfair. Moderate Catholic leader John Hume credited Mrs. Clinton with speaking to leaders and opinion makers on all sides, making countless phone calls and urging them forward. Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams credits Mrs. Clinton with playing “an important role.”
So, just in case you got lost with all the Obama casing of aspersions, we have Lord David Trimble supporting the Obama position that Hillary had NOTHING to do with achieving peace in Northern Ireland. David Trimble, the incompetent jerk that lost his job because he refused to implement the Good Friday Agreement. But that Lord in front of his name makes him seem really cool and important.
And then we have Ian Paisley, First Minister of Northern Ireland, Martin McGuiness, Deputy First Minister, Gerry Adams, President of Sinn Féin and Bertie Ahern, Prime Minister of Ireland all supporting Hillary’s version. I wonder who has more credibility here? Clue: It’s not Obama.
And then we have the question as to whether Hillary had anything to do with making sure the border to Macedonia was opened during the Balkan War to allow refugees from Kosovo to escape the slaughter. The Obama campaign trots out their impeccable national security expert, Sinbad, who recalls that he didn’t remember a thing about there being an emergency landing with the helicopter. Sinbad’s version sounds like they were out for a casual stroll in the park.
But fortunately Hillary has a credible reference for her efforts during this important trip. A man with unimpeachable credentials, Richard Holbrooke, the architect of the Dayton Accords.
Hillary’s Work on Kosovo & N. Ireland
In these talks, one in the Presidential Palace, another in the residence of the American Ambassador, Christopher Hill, Mrs. Clinton pressed the Macedonian government to fully open the border so that Kosovar Albanian refugees could flee the war zone to safety. She also committed herself to work with the government and people of Macedonia who also faced an emergency because of the threat to their own safety and stability. Hillary Clinton promised to take action to help the Macedonian economy. Returning to Washington, she pressed hard in the administration for action to support the Macedonians. She even contacted American business executives to ensure that American textile contracts in Macedonia were not canceled.
So we have the Sinbad , whoops I mean the Obama side and then we have the Hillary side of the story. I am sure you are wondering which side is more credible. but that doesn’t stop the Obama campaign. No, they have “other questions” about Hillary. Surely something sinister is lurking in her past that that right wing republican machine that let us use their play book surely uncovered. Let’s see if we can cause aspersions by questioning what Hillary did as First Lady. She hasn’t released those files so let’s tell everyone that the reason she doesn’t release them is because she has something to hide. Yes, that’s it. Hillary is untrustworthy. You see with the Obama camp, they don’t really care about facts. they prefer to distort, to cause doubt and to spread innuendo.
And yes today they continue their assault. A reminder that Obama wasn’t kidding when he said: For we have a choice in this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division, and conflict, and cynicism.
Read on….
Today ABC News reports that Obama Campaign
Claims Clinton Has ‘Character Gap’
… asserting that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is lacking in character and regularly misleads voters.
“She is not seen as trustworthy by the American people,” said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe.
Plouffe said this perception would make it “next to impossible” for Clinton to win the general election.
Today, the Obama campaign blamed Clinton for what Gallup called a “perceived honesty gap” and Plouffe called a
“character gap.”
“Her access was very limited and her trips abroad were largely ceremonial,” Craig said. “She says she is ready to be
commander in chief based on claims that are not supported by reality.”
Hmmmm…. seems the evidence I present above seems to dispute the claims of Plouffe. But that is the Obama way. When those pesky little facts get in the way, lie and tell more lies and get other people to lie for you. LIE LIE LIE.
And don’t forget… spread division, conflict and cynicism too:
Assailing the Clintons’ refusal so far to release any recent tax returns or the names of donors to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, Plouffe asked, “What are the Clintons scared of? Why won’t they release this information? & What’s lurking there?”
Oh my, there must be something sinister going on here folks. Because Hillary hasn’t released her tax forms. never mind that they aren’t even due to be filed with the IRS until April 15th. The Obama campaign wants to see then NOW!
Like spoiled little children they apparently think they are entitled to see Hillary’s tax forms before the IRS. And we all know that their motives are completely on the up and up. That “incident” where they misreported information about Bill Clinton’s income where they actually questioned his patriotism, that was just a mistake. They never meant to cause him any harm. Naaahhh. Not the Obama folks. They are the New Politics Express. They would never do anything like that.
What I and scores of interested readers want to know is when Senator Obama is going to release his records from his 8 years in the Illinois Senate. When asked Obama seems to be under the impression that he doesn’t have a single sheet of paper documenting his “experience” as an Illinois State Senator. I know he said in one of the debates that he had a tendency to loose papers but 8 years worth of them? I think not. Now a cynical person might suspect that there is something sinister about Obama not having a single document proving his well touted experience. But me?
Something else Obama said in that all important race speech that he gave because race is such an important subject and not at all because he was in trouble for having a racist pastor that hates America:
I would not be running for President if I didn’t believe with all my heart that this is what the vast majority of Americans want for this country.
Well, I suppose it is time for Senator Obama to step down. Because division, conflict and cynicism are the watch words of his “new politics” campaign.

God, I wish the Hillary camp would put this sucker away! SOMEBODY has to!@!!
Obama’s church pushes controversial doctrines
Margaret Talev | McClatchy Newspapers
last updated: March 20, 2008 06:50:02 PM
WASHINGTON — Jesus is black. Merging Marxism with Christian Gospel may show the way to a better tomorrow. The white church in America is the Antichrist because it supported slavery and segregation.
Those are some of the more provocative doctrines that animate the theology at the core of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Barack Obama’s church.
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/v-print/story/31079.html
In what way is Wright ‘racist’?!?!? I heard an angry, inflammatory statement about “rich white people” running America, but it’s not racist!
In fact, it does have an element of truth.. . though it was delivered in a counter-productive manner. But RACIST?!?!?
As an example, my wife has often talked about “rich white old men” running her company and the country! Does that make her SEXIST?!?!? I don’t think so. . .
And if guilt by association is enough to damn someone, look into Hillary’s relationship with “the Fellowship” prayer group. She has praised their leader as a spiritual advisor, but he has spoken of Hitler and Mao as models of leadership! Other prominent members of her prayer group include Brownback, Santorum, leaders from Operation Rescue, and MANY other wing-nuts!
Better be careful before taking Wright’s comments out of context and assuming that all of his sermons were these sorts of rants. . . that would be easy to do with ANY of these candidates ’spiritual advisors’!
ne bulous: your knowledge of Wright is pretty limited I’d say.
Please inform yourself, read and learn some more before commenting again. Have to spend the time to know
Please enlighten me! I have only seen the clips available on YouTube, interviews with his parishoners (of ALL races), and interviews with the other pastors of this church.
I see no indication that Wright excluded people of other races, nor that he treated them disrespectfully. I STRONGLY disagree with the way he attacked Hillary from the pulpit (and the Church could lose tax-exempt status over something like that), but I see no signs of racism!
Again, when my wife rails against all of her bosses being “rich white old men”, does that make her SEXIST?!?!
Have to work harder that that Ned; read some articles, learn about his philosophy; what he preaches…. You need to read some.
Let me add anti-semtic (which in itself is an example of his racism).
Maybe it is that you agree with Wright; in which case, well, of course you’ll find nothing wrong with who he is.
Obama’s relationship with this man is a disgrace.
This country is better than Wright; this country deserves better than Obama.
I know most people flinch at the word, Ned, but why did the Rev Wright print the Hamas primer?
It is a legitimate question.
If it were my church, I’d walk out, I don’t approve of those who bomb civilians, innocents, it’s the wussy move of pseudo intellectuals.
So, what’s the story here?
And I KNOW the LA Times printed the same document, but that’s a part of responsible journalism. Wright appears to have give Hamas tacit approval, separately, and in conjunction with his other declarations.
So, what does Obama think about Hamas?
And Rashid Khalidi was turned down for a job at Princeton, because Princeton thought he was pursuing a political agenda, as opposed to the scholarly study of Middle Eastern history.
Obama’s friends stink like rotten fish.
“I know most people flinch at the word, Ned, but why did the Rev Wright print the Hamas primer?
It is a legitimate question.”
Sure…maybe because Trinity is based in the black liberation theology of James Cone and as stated by the article linked by Oxycon above “Liberation theology’s stance on the rights of Palestinians likewise is informed by its emphasis on seeing God’s mission through the lens of oppressed people.
“Black theological liberation is not anti-Israel. It’s never been that Zionism is racism,” theologian Hopkins said. “It’s more for a truly two-state solution.”
And god forbid (excuse the pun) we should actually listen to “the other side’s” point of view.
“If it were my church, I’d walk out, I don’t approve of those who bomb civilians, innocents, it’s the wussy move of pseudo intellectuals.”
Good for you. I don’t approve either. But does this mean you equally don’t approve of Israel’s bombing of innocents either? Does this mean you don’t approve of your own country’s actions in Iraq? South America? Africa? Quite the conundrum we have here. It’s not quite so easy as black and white. Good and evil.
“So, what’s the story here?”
See above.
“So, what does Obama think about Hamas?”
Well considering Obama is strongly pro-Israel i would imagine he will consider them a Terrorist organisation as the US State Department declares them. I would hope however, if he was President, he would have a more conciliatory tone than “evil doers” in bringing them to the table and trying to nut out a solution to this ongoing bloodbath.
How do we know this; what has he done? The article OxyCon cites says
But when did Obama reject Wright;s arguments about 9/11 and Israel?
Certainly not publicly when Wright said these things.
He rejected them now; after Wright’s comments were exposed…Well how convenient isn’t it?
Anti-semitism is hard to concel. Wright never did (I have known about him for a long time …) so to think Obama wasn’t aware of it is ludicrous.
Saying that white people killed black Jesus is racist.
Saying that the US of KKKA is run by rich white guys is racist.
don’t leave out the Italian white men…
Ned, I would strongly recommend that you read Annie Proloux’s novel as a starter to what racism really means, it’s fiction so it’s a much easier read. I believe Obama and his camp are quite adept at the use of the “green accordion”.
Opps the title of the book is Accordion Crimes!
Saying that the “white church” is the Antichrist is racist.
Period.
I have to agree with your assessment that this is fragile ground over which we should tread lightly.
To be sure, I’ve found the Rev. Wright’s occasionally inflammatory remarks to be over-the-top in a purely theatrical sense — and let’s be honest here, his thunderous rhetorical explosions are truly occasional, and don’t actually recur on a weekly basis. And whenever he does emote to such points of excess, the man is literally preaching to his own choir as his own best lampoon.
However, I also recently took the time to read Rev. Wright’s sermon “On the Audacity to Hope”, and was profoundly moved by his sincere passion for the plight of the downtrodden, who all too often have only hope to sustain them.
For all his controversial ruffles and flourishes, Rev. Wright has proven himself both a keen observer of the human condition and in possession of a highly-evolved sense of social justice, as is entirely befitting of someone who’s spent his entire pastoral life preaching to the embattled denizens of Chicago’s unforgiving, rough-and-tumble South Side.
Therefore, speaking as a supporter of Mrs. Clinton, I’d only offer that surely we can find other effective means to take issue with the man’s choice of words and / or his political opinions, without also taking the added step of engaging in wholesale character assassination.
Aloha.
High fives for Donald. Beautifully said.
Oh Jesus. Look, you can defend Wright philsophically all you want, but we aren’t going to elect anyone who belongs to a church where the pastor urges everybody to join hands and sing ‘God Damn America.’ It’s political suicide. Maybe Obama would be happy teaching at Harvard or something, but he’d have to actually learn a little bit about policy before he could get that gig. Nothing is going to happen to Rev. Wright, so maybe we should stop worrying about his reputation for the time being and pretend he’s Bill Clinton or Ferraro or someone who deserves to have his words distorted and his reputation unfairly destroyed for someone’s ambition. James Cone and liberation theology we’ll save for rainy afternoons in off-election years.
“he would have a more conciliatory tone than “evil doers” in bringing them to the table and trying to nut out a solution to this ongoing bloodbath.”
Yeah, he takes a nuanced view except when it comes to the root of all evil in the universe, that dirty unclean $#^* Hitlery.
You know, I really couldn’t care less if the KKK opens up a few soup kitchens, or the Aryan Nation decides to build a homeless shelter.
I don’t care if Mussolini got the trains to run on time, or if Hitler reduced Germany’s unemployment rate. Or if Stalin modernized Russia’s iron industry.
And I REALLY don’t care if a vicious race-baiter expresses “sincere concern for the downtrodden.”
Somehow, I manage to donate to local charities, including homeless shelters, without being a race-baiting lunatic.
I really, really loathe the “but look at all the GOOD things he’s done” argument. Millions of Americans manage to be charitable without being an ignorant, divisive hate peddler. Too bad the Rev. Wright never managed that.
Obama certainly did NOT offer Imus the same courtesy of “Look at all the good things he’s done” when he immediately called for the firing of Imus.
The hypocrisy of Obama mentioning his daughters being offended by Imus, but NOT mentioning his daughters being offended by Wright, is despicable.
He sounds more and more like Al Sharpton than he does like Abraham Lincoln.
Donald; but that is a totally flawed logic. Many atrocious leaders (and I lived under a few…) gave “inspiring” speeches to that “masses”.
But waht counts is not all the good deeds or the
nice speeches you give. But rather all the
hate-ful ones. Just imagine the following: you are and exemplary employee; do everything great. But ocassionally you just go let it go and express all you anger, you hate and your biggotism.
What do you think it will happen to you?
Do yopu think your employer will say–well but you
were so inspiring the other day and give you a raise?
We can push your logic to one extreme: someone that steals or murders for the first time
was also exemplary until then.
When ten police tickets you for speeding; “I never did before doesn’t count. May coundt once with a judge but twice?
What do you think people judge for?
Too tired: sorry for all the bad english: Corrections:
(1) “bigotry” of course…( where on earth the other came from?)
(2) Do “you” think…
(3) When “the” police….
Second post fot this pocket lint, Ned. eh?
Good god, what the hell? Talking UP MCCAIN AGAIN? Unbelievable.
Bill Clinton Wants Two People Who Love Their Country…and Obama Isn’t One of Them
by BarbinMD
Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 03:58:14 PM PDT
Via atrios, Bill Clinton, after waxing poetic on the friendship between Hillary and John McCain despite their differences on the issues:
It’d be a great thing if we had an election where you had two people who love this country, who were devoted to the interest of the country and people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues instead of all this other stuff which always seems to intrude on our politics.
Leaving aside the irony of Bill Clinton talking about “stuff” intruding on our politics, what in the hell was he thinking? Tearing down Barack Obama with rightwing talking points while praising John W. McCain is showing devotion to the interest of one thing and one thing only…and it’s not our country.
http://www.dailykos.com/
Well, this Bluedog Democrat is voting for one of those two come November.
I sure as hell ain’t voting for Barack. Four more years of Republican corruption beats four years of the Obamanation. Way too much shit comin’ down the pike.
That is exactly what is going to happen with me as well. My choices are 1) Hillary, 2) McCain, 3) Nader, 4) Anybody with a pulse, 5) Anybody without a pulse, 6) Lucifer, 7) Maybe Obama
That’s my same view. For some reason it is expected that Obama should get a vote because he has a D after his name. I’ve got about 50 things that keep me from voting for him.
My list seems to be growing by the day. I honestly don’t think that I can hold my nose and vote for him.
Barbh, we are way past hold that part of the anatomy and I dare say a “Rosie” would be required. (beggin your pardon)
My husband and I are life long Democrats, and we are both seniors. Our choices are 1)Obama
and no other choice. We just won’t vote for President. Senator Clinton can try and steal the nomination but she will lose the election and so will the Democratic party. So be it, let the games begin.
let the games begin.
Those will be in China soon enough, this not a game. Peoples live depend on the outcome.
Why do you identify yourself as a senior and then pretty much describe the nomination process for president of the USA as a game? No senior citizen I have ever known approaches this process flippantly. Also, no senior citizen would even consider voting for a man who wants to make “changes” to social security after paying in for 40, 50 years. If you really want to make social security solvent for people of my generation and beyond then how about we stop the out of control spending, raise taxes and pay back what has been borrowed out of the trust fund. We aren’t going to fix anything with private accounts.
I really don’t understand you Obamabots reasoning process. Hillary was race baiting in South Carolina by having the gall to campaign to black folks and ask for their vote. Now, she is trying to steal the election from Obama by *gasp* asking people to vote for her. Damned that democracy thing. It sure makes life inconvenient for all you intellectually superior types who know what is good for all the rest of us. Nominating a candidate for President is anything but a game. It isn’t American fucking Idol you dolt.
My husband and I are lifelong Democrats, and we are both seniors.
Our choices are FOR the candidate who does not disenfranchise Democratic voters for their own personal gain, and AGAINST any candidate who says their voters will stay home if the other candidate wins.
Our choices are made based on principles, and given the qualifications above, it will NOT be Barak Obama.
Questioning Obama’s patriotism,(which is so out of fashion, the concept of patriotism, exploited by the republicans), makes the observer feel paranoid. There is no way this man doesn’t value America, you think, no way the implications of his relationships with Wright, Khalidi, Ayers, Rezko and Auchi could mean anything other than politically expedient choices.
But then the money comes into it, coupled with Wright and Khalidi’s verbiage, and that changes the story.
So we will see.
And it’s a given Clinton already knows the truth.
“Tearing down Barack Obama with rightwing talking points”
Irony was declared dead at 6:58 EST, after a long, valiant truggle with delusional kool-ade drinkers. Barack Obama stated, “I’m glad that bitch is dead, I hate them all, besides she was elligible for Social Security, which I want to reach out to Republicans to fix because it’s on its last legs, besides being a Commie plot like national health care. I applaud the American who brutally murdered irony in the same way Hillary killed Vince Foster. I admire Bush, Bill Clinton caused the war in Iraq and eradicaed chocolate chip cookies. Anyone who doesn’t vote for me is a fat, old, ugly, stupid, female, racist SOS” Flowers may be sent to The Little Chapel of Perpetual Projection.
Even if she doesn’t get the nomination she and Bill will have made some great McCain election ads. I have never seen anything like this.
That’s great !! artman11; that’s not tearing down Obama: that is telling the truth about who he is.
Obama is a danger to this country. He is unleectable and will not be the next President of the US.
That’s great !! artman11; that’s not tearing down Obama: that is telling the truth about who he is.
Obama is a danger to this country. He is unelectable and will not be the next President of the US.
While of course, Obama’s campaign has been all sweetness and light. Give me a fricking break.
Poor artman. He gives not one rat’s patootie about the ads the Obama campaign gave McCain trashing Hillary & Bill Clinton.
We ALL know who will do anything to win, artman, and who is willing to damage the Demcoratic Party for their own personal gain.
And it’s not Hillary or Bill Clinton, fool.
Are you calling Obama a lying sack of . . . stuff?
Because if you’re not, I will
Yes, I will, too.
YES WE ARE.
My I join in? He’s a liar. It’s as simple as that.
As we would say in the south, he’s full of horse manuky…
This campaign is getting rediculous. I am a Hillary Texas delegate at the county level in Texas. I “had” a Hillary sign in my front yard. At about 11:30 p.m. on 3-22-08 a large brick came flying through my upstairs window smashing the glass. I don’t have any enemies. The police said that it would have to have been a man that threw the rick because of where the brick landed and the size and weight of the brick. None of my neighbors had bricks thrown through their windows. I was the only person with a Hillary sign in my neighborhood
As will I.
Obama is a lying, manipulative sack of sh*t.
Due respect.
Obama will say anything to get elected. Just like the rethugs. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck …
I got a call at home from an Obama supporter about two months ago soliciting money. I have given quite alot to candidates over the years ( I started by maxing out with Wes Clark - I was really freaked about war ) and I gave quite alot to Kerry which is where I believe this person got my unlisted number. I had already voted for Edwards in CA, given him money and watched him drop out of the race. I was polite because I hadn’t decided between Clinton and Obama yet but I made it VERY CLEAR that I felt Obama had way more money already than seemed appropriate for a democrat & and I wasn’t giving anyone any more money til I saw something worth supporting. No money - I said it over and over. So I was surprised when a couple of weeks later I received from the Obama campaign a bill, thanking for my pledged support and asking for the $50.00 I had (only according to them) pledged. I’ve donated alot of money to various candidates over the years and I’ve never seen it done this way. I just stuck it away and ignored it. Until last week, I got a second, more insistent demand “our records indicate we’ve not yet received your donation”, again in bill format for $50.00. Don’t cons go for the short money this way? Is this the way it’s done now? I’m pulling for Hillary, though I haven’t sent her any money either (I starting to suspect my money singles out losers - just superstition talking) but Jeez-louise, what if Obama becomes president? I expect the next Obama letter to include interest and penalties and he knows where I live. I’m only half kidding.
verninme; this is hilarious!! Maybe you can add Obama’s # to the “DoNotCall” roll until we get a “DoNotMailUs” list!
I wonder whether they counted you $50 in their reports
… interesting.
I wondered about that myself.
Wow, verminme!
Obama’s people pulled the same shit on me.
They tried to shake me down on the phone while I was eating my dinner. They started off asking for alot of money and when I said no, they’d halve it. $500, $250, $125, $75, $50, $25.
I said alright at $25 and they wanted to do it over the phone and I said no way. So they mailed me some pushy crap wanting their $25. By that time, Obama was calling Bill Clinton a racist and my views on Obama were souring quickly, so I shredded their letter. So far, I’ve gotten like three more letters. Lol!
I think I will mail the next one back and write “give Obama this message from me: go to f’n hell you POS. It’s Hillary or McCain”.
They DO come with envelopes, though unfortuately not postage paid. I like your idea but what I actually have been doing is sending Barbara Boxer money every time Obama asks. I’m officially a “Friend of Barbara”now. Happy me.
I really, really like Boxer.
They kept calling me too, the first time I told them I wasn’t donating any money to any campaigns because I was against public funding for campaigns. They called me again hours after I had seen that video of Michelle Obama talking about how Hillary couldn’t keep her house in order she couldn’t be president, shtick, I’m afraid that I went ballastic on that person. I was so mad I was throwing spit wads out of my mouth like Chris Matthews does sometimes when I started talking about that video. I also told them that I have been actively lurking and posting on blogs for the last 6 six years and he had the rudest supporters that I have ever seen and his whole campaign needed to turn it down if they wanted me to vote for him at any time in the future and to take me off any list that they had because if they called again I was going to donate whatever they tried to pump me for to Hillary I then hung up and shortly thereafter did my first donation.
I do think that they got my name from the Kerry camp also, it’s really the only place that it could have come from. I think there ought to be a law against unauthorized disclosure of phone #s to a different campaign then the original.
I work at home and am very judicious about who has my home #, I don’t like the distraction of it. I feel sorry for whoever calls if they call again, I know that they are just working for their candidate, but my opinion of him is at an all time low right now. Perhaps I’ll better be able to express that without the spittle flying.
Barbh,
Obama’s campaign had the mailing lists from both the Kerry campaign and the MoveOn.org group.
They called me, too, and got an earful.
But they never called back for $$$$.
We Scots-Irish girls know how to say “Call me again, and you’ll hear from my attorney.” (Don’t really have an “attorney,” but the comment works every time. LOL)
It’s the Chicago way…
That’s interesting because I had a little run in with Rham Emmanuel over his personal pick for the former Pombo seat. I was backing McNerney and RE was pushing another guy named Filson against McNerney though McNerney had paid his dues for the seat by running 2 very lonely, grass roots campaigns. Filson called so much I began to wonder if he had any body elses #. He’d conjole and confide and I’d send more money to McNerney. Filson was not Chicago enough to bill me though and McNerney won.
Rham actually represents my old district, where I grew up.
His name is popping up in the strangest places lately, he was Daley’s chief fundraiser, at one point.
Wonder if they will turn it over to a credit agency or some thug will just come bust your knee caps with a crowbar…
Maybe… then I would drag myself to the phone and donate to Boxer. Thank goodness I didn’t give them my credit card number - that’s what they were pushing for.
My 87 year old mom drive me crazy with the credit card business, people always call her wanting donations for stuff. I think she is on every chump list known to man I tell her don’t ever give your CC# to someone that calls over the phone, tell them to send you something. Could be anybody…been a couple of scams lately around here involving cc#s. I’m glad no one from Nigeria has sent her anything yet…mail or phone.
I wonder if they keep your card # on file?
It’s weird if they are raising so much money, why are they so aggressively going after it?
Christ, that’s amazing.
I suspect that you will soon get a letter reading:
AMOUNT DUE $50.00 PAYMENT DUE DATE APRIL 1
AFTER APRIL 1: AMOUNT DUE $55.00
(Late fees, after all….)
Is this legal? Why not contact the FEC and report what happened? You may not be the only person being intimidated this way. It may be a violation of the FEC rules and regulations.
Just my two cents…
Same here for donating to Kerry, my sane half gets a very aggresive call, not four days after Kerry sold the list he had from his campaign. Did Kerry’s supporters have a say in who they were “sold” to?
In what currency and how much did Senator Kerry get “paid”? I recall there are some rules regarding mailing lists.
In fact, with Dodd and Richardson and Kerry, what was on the table? Does money begat power or power begat money? Who has the Chicken and who has the Egg? Was it a toll road the chiken had to cross or The Big Dig? Or the Big Lie? Why did the Chicken want to cross the road in the first place? Obama and his Knights of Ni!

You can add this comment of mine I left at TPM (and I stand by my account):
I was in Bosnia at that time. The active fighting had stopped, but freshly arrived US Armed Forces considered it a combat zone and followed the appropriate rules of engagement.
That meant sharp descent and ascent during landing and takeoff procedures and mandatory helmets and flak-jackets for all personnel. At the slightest alarm, everyone would duck into shelters, fearing the attack (no US troops were ever attacked during their engagement in Bosnia).
I can only imagine how paranoid US security must have been surrounding Hillary’s visit and what impression it left on her and her entourage.
This is the recollection by her speechwriter at that time:
“Lissa Muscatine, who served as Hilary Clinton’s chief speechwriter in 1996 and accompanied her on the Bosnia trip, feels that I have been unfair to the former First Lady. She gave me her “vivid recollections” of the arrival in Tuzla, which I quote below:
I was on the plane with then First Lady Hillary Clinton for the trip from Germany into Bosnia in 1996. We were put on a C17– a plane capable of steep ascents and descents — precisely because we were flying into what was considered a combat zone. We were issued flak jackets for the final leg because of possible sniper fire near Tuzla. As an additional precaution, the First Lady and Chelsea were moved to the armored cockpit for the descent into Tuzla. We were told that a welcoming ceremony on the tarmac might be canceled because of sniper fire in the hills surrounding the air strip.”
After her visit, Hillary Clinton put her clout behind securing the funding for Bosnian Women’s Initiative, which de facto served as the primary funding source for the nascent non-profit sector in Bosnia:

Strengthening such initiatives had a significant impact on securing peace through economic strengthening of women:

If you want to push this story, why not ask Bosnians themselves about how they value her role?
MoodSwingeR,
Thanks for an excellent post and even more - for your service to our country.
What are you people going to say next, Obama is a greater threat to the US than Al Queda? Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me.
Even if Clinton believes that do you think it’s a good idea to compliment McCain?
Bottom line, who is a greater threat to the country, someone who is willing to stay in Iraq forever, who will appoint rightwing justices to the SCOTUS, double Bush’s tax cuts, continue the Republican status quo or Obama?
It’s mind boggling.
Come on people. Please.
Does Wright support Al Queda, too?
Or only Hamas?
What’s mind boggling to me is this junior senator with so little experience is even in the race or a serious contender. Had he not had the support of so many AA voters, he would not be where he is today. That is fact not racist BTW.
There is a reason that the press has given BO such an easy time, he is “the one”, that is the one that’s going to get beat in the GE.
Oh, that’s just campaign talk, ya know? Kinda like Obama’s.
I wouldn’t be surprised if their ACTUAL results might be just the opposite: McCain out quick because he’s a wounded warrior, Obama lingering because he hasn’t a clue.
Obama IS the status quo.
It was a strategy. Simple. Make the unworded assumption that Hill is already the Democratic nominee and compare her to the man she’s gonna be running against. Anything else is supposition. Unless Bill outright said, “Unlike her opponent, Hillary loves her country.”
If you say so. It sure hte hell doesn’t look that way to me.
Me neither. The only assumptions I hear- and I hear them EVERYWHERE- is that OBAMA is already the Democratic nominee, and that by insisting (in her bitchy, controlling, hysterical way) on continuing to run against him, Hillary is destroying the party.
I’ve heard this since Iowa, and it reached an hysterical pitch after Wisconsin. These guys just don’t get it. The “goalpost” is, and always has been, 2,025 delegates. When someone reaches that number, that person is the nominee.
The Obamabots, aided by the media, keep trying to call the game before it’s over. Sorry, we aren’t buying it. So please, stop trying.
Sort of like the Germans demanding Britain’s surrender in 1941.
I, too, was shocked at Bill’s remarks. I’m thinking he’s VERY ANGRY. The Dems have, after all, turned on the only president they’ve had in the WH since Carter.
People can ask what was Bill thinking? I say you can also asking what the Democrat Party is thinking in their treatment of him and Hillary. It’s been pretty despicable!
The Dems could have at least let the Primaries play out.
