The Courage of Your Convictions

nutter-shirt.jpgAs many of you know, Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia took a bold and courageous stance when he came out in support of Hillary. And most recently he has been on ABC and Fox News giving interviews. As a result of his courage, his office has been bombarded by angry calls from Obama supporters.

Let’s show Mayor Nutter that he has many friends that support his decision. Would you please call his office today and express that support? The number is: 215-686-1776. (You may also send him an e-mail at mayor@phila.gov.)

Please do your part to stand up for this wonderful man who is standing up for Hillary. And for you.

I am outraged by the disgusting behavior of Obama’s supporters. I could be wrong, but I bet that very few of Hillary’s supporters do this to any Obama backer.

This is just like the outrageous booing of the venerable Sheila Jackson Lee at her Texas district’s convention on Saturday.

SHAME ON THEM. And SHAME ON THOSE who did this to Mayor Nutter.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-31 16:14:14

You’re not honestly saying that Hillary backers have not bombarded the offices of politicians who took a stance opposite or contrary to what they wanted or expected with calls/letter, right?

Comment by Marco | 2008-03-31 16:20:24

Gee Kevin/ Does it say as much in that post?

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-31 16:23:52

spare me your faux outrage - i obviously asked the question because that’s what clearly implied in her post; i asked to clarify if that was in fact her intent… geez.

“I am outraged by the disgusting behavior of Obama’s supporters. I could be wrong, but I bet that very few of Hillary’s supporters do this to any Obama backer.”

LOL. Faux outrage? Ok, Kevin. I was talking about the main post or topic at hand, not whomever you were replying to. If you were replying to her post, I didn’t notice and apologize. I am new around here.

Faux outrage? Where did you pull that from anyway?

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-31 16:37:18

no prob, apologies…

Marco salutations…welcome aboard.
Politics is a bloodsport, sure…
But Respect for elected officials, does not include death threats, threats against a pol for not doing the rethug tango with BO’s meme..and frankly outward appearance of the “Lord of the Flies” behavior has myself and I dare say many others disgusted.

Kevin’s rhetorical response, since he has no examples to site to the contrary, is BS.
spare me your faux outrage

Sorry for your loss Kevin.

“death threats, threats against a pol for not doing the rethug tango with BO’s meme..and frankly outward appearance of the “Lord of the Flies” behavior has myself and I dare say many others disgusted.”

Your examples since you seem to believe they’re needed in rhetorical discussion?

As Marco noted - where are those things in the article? Better still - I’ll ask you the same thing I asked Susan… are you saying that Hillary supporters have not called and harassed leaders and pols that support views/candidates other than their choice?

LOL

Comment by Rob Gard | 2008-03-31 17:06:14

Well, yeah, I guess that some backers of Hillary found Bill Richardson’s bewildering endorsement of Obama worthy of some outrage, but then Judas Richardson deserved it.

I would NEVER boo an elected official who is a supporter of Barack Obama. I might not applaud as much, but boo? Never.

Nor would I ever hunt down and call the elderly parents and brother of an Obama supporter — as Barack’s supporters have done to the parents and brother of PBS host Tavis Smiley.

Nor would I ever search for all of the employers of an Obama supporter and call his/her employers to complain about their employee’s support of Obama — as Obama’s supporters have done to ALL of the current and former employers of Geraldine Ferraro.

And those are just a few examples of what Obama’s supporters have done. And Obama himself has never, to the best of my knowledge, asked his supporters to stop such behavior.

Comment by madamab | 2008-03-31 17:03:26

And McPeak compares Bill Clinton to Joe McCarthy! Obama cultists are the ones using McCarthyite tactics to try to scare Clinton supporters into switching their vote.

I just can’t believe this is happening. Weren’t liberals supposed to be about peace, love and understanding? What’s with the hatred and the craziness?

Comment by Nellie | 2008-03-31 17:11:44

Susan,

This is beyond disgusting:

Nor would I ever search for all of the employers of an Obama supporter and call his/her employers to complain about their employee’s support of Obama — as Obama’s supporters have done to ALL of the current and former employers of Geraldine Ferraro.

What happend to harrassment laws? YUCK YUCK YUCK - these cretins expect to be treated as human????

If any of you unspeakable filth walking on your hind legs could even possibly come up with a logical and rational defense of a full scale assault on a 72 year old woman - I can”t wait to hear it.

Please save all of us the pain of the damn Adam Bonin circular logic - for once in your miserable existence just answer the question in a straightforward manner without veering off in some other dirction.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-31 17:18:18

Ferraro was justifiably upset by the calls to her former and current employers. She spoke about it many times in television interviews.

I hope it didn’t cause her any problems, but it surely was a huge headache for her employers — both worrisome and even frightening.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-31 17:32:08

Susan, while admirable and agreeably the civilized thing to do - I didn’t ask you what you would do. I asked if you were implying that only Obama supporter have harassed politicians who support a candidate or position other than theirs.

So many Obama supporters are a CRASSact. They shout all the time. I caucussed in Texas for Hillary and the Democratic Party should be taken to task for allowing “mob rule.” Personally I think his loud-mouth supporters should be broadcast ad nauseum by the MSM just like Rev. Wright. See what kind of people surround him. Deceit is how he got his delegates. The Dem Party thinks we are all going to be happy if he gets the nomination and join with his loud-mouth supporters. Dream on DNC. I don’t want to be part of the mob.

Comment by blobert | 2008-04-03 11:05:10

This is an off topic. But it is so GREAT to see Fleaflicker and Susan!
I was just thrown off MyDD. I was really depressed, but then found that a lot of Hillary Clinton supporters are being mysteriously tossed for no apparent reason.
At any rate, I am glad to find you guys, and apologize for the OT.
Someday, I would like to hear theories on why MyDD would do this.
My guess is the Obama people are going all out to try and snuff out any vestige of Hillary support from the web.
So the media gets the wrong impression that there is unanimous and universal support of Obambi.

They pulled it as well as alot of the active links on the site. There used to be old google cached contact links. If I hear from any of my friends in philly w/ active info I’ll pass it along to you and Mimi.

Nothing wrong w/ supporting someone you agree with. Personally I see no reason why the man should be pilloried for his choice (like Richardson).

I’ve always said, I like Obama a hell of a lot more than I like his supporters. I was one of the happy Democrats in the beginning of this race - “Whomever wins is cool by me.”

They’ve changed all of that with their demonization of all things Hillary. I wouldn’t pee on them if they were on fire.

Ok, maybe I would, but you get the point.

Comment by alexei | 2008-03-31 20:42:43

Obama could put a stop this at anytime. Instead he inflames his followers with emails calling for money saying how Clinton is tearing him and the Party apart.

What a great to honor to there are people in this world that understand what dedication to a principle means. Thank you Mayor Nutter.

It gets back to the side effects of appealing to the anarchy of “HOPE”. Have we heard one peep from the Senator “HOPE”? NOPE. Add that to Dean telling people to “Shutup”…and the rest of this circus.

Bad things happen when evil is used to gain power.

I see know difference between the rise of Nazi Germany and this behavior. Sure passionate fool-aid is one thing, threating the life and careers of others is just as immoral as letting people freeze.

When I read John Dean’s book about the rise of Authoritarianism and the absolute need to “follow the leader”, I only had Rethugs in mind. What a suprise to see the same behavior from a these fools. Militant Neo-libs…and the hits keep comin’

In the Dallas convention over the this weekend. The Clinton’s representative (a Texas stateman) also got booed and interrupted by Obama chants also. Rather disrepectful and indicative of mass zealotry. When Obama supporters speak, the Hillary crowd did not interrupt or boo. Just a stark difference.

Comment by madamab | 2008-03-31 16:45:10

Thanks for the recommendation, Fleaflicker.

I just called the mayor’s office, and the woman answering the phone confirmed that they have been receiving a lot of angry calls.

I told her that not everyone’s angry and not everyone thinks he’s doing the wrong thing. She was relieved to hear it.

As a HRC supporter, I cannot imagine having the unmitigated gall to call and harangue a public official who has chosen to support Obama. What the hell is wrong with these Obamans?

I personally am outraged at this behavior, because it is outrageous. Every African-American does not have to support Obama, and every woman does not have to support HRC. This is supposed to be a free country!

Comment by mostest | 2008-03-31 16:49:40

Mayor Nutter will be vinicated. Obama will not last till June let alone November. Obama and his followers are now fast scrubing his church website. Why? Obama says it is old news; just 30 minutes i mean seconds out rev wright’s 40yrs of preaching, right?
It is because the words being scrub lead to the key that will open a door that will expose the true Obama even his ardent followers will not stomach.

Truth is born the moment it is spoken. Truth never dies. Truth is covered up and hidden from the ligh but it never dies. See Iraq and the bush lies.
Obama’s day of reckoning is fast approaching.

They are probably getting bombarded, which is why I asked for the email address. If we do get a good email address, be sure to put your supportive words in the subject line so they know what they will read, or if they are having to delete, at least they got the gist of your email.

Excellent and well done - Recommended.

Thanks for sharing. You are right of course, Obama has literally TORN open wounds that were healing - slowly, but still healing.

Manipulating AA’s is heinous. For Gods Sake SC still has the Confederate Flag embedded on its state flag.

Does anyone on the Obama side not understand the backlash is going to be ferocious - and the ones who will suffer the most severe consequences are those he is Hoodwinkin and Okie Doking.

I’m just going to spit it out - This guy is one sick twisted psychopath - wonder if Lynn Cheney traced Bambi and Dicks roots back as far as Caligua?

I am literally getting sick over this - and I am up to 3 baths a day to wash the Bambi stink off.

C-Span carried the State of The Black Caucus event about 3 weeks ago. You know the one that BO did NOT attend but Hillary DID. BO offered to send Michelle but Tavis Smiley made it clear….no surrogates.

That seemed to work out pretty well except for Jesse Jackson slipping in a barn burner for BO, which he was gently admonished for. (The same Jesse Jackson it is apparently racist to refer to in the same sentence as BO; especially if South Carolina is involved.) Others were told candidates have a chance to speak for themselves and if they didn’t want to come and do that well….too bad too sad……

It was really a great event with many many points of view on poverty, Katrina, the western hemisphere, racism, humor etc.

However, it was clear that people (particularly black caucus members) supporting Hillary were changing phone numbers and receiving serious threats! There was some effort to quell that dynamic. I think the AA women that are supporting Hillary are going to need some serious support and we should be remembering that!

“Instead of appealing to whites’ fears of forced integration by mentioning busing, Obama has elicited black prejudice by using terms like like hoodwinked, bamboozled, and okie-doke.”

And it goes downhill from there. You start out w/ a premise that’s laughable and then chase inanity and innuendo straight into la la land.

Nicely done. Hmmmmmm… considering that Hillary has also used the terms bamboozled and hoodwinked, what does that say about her?

LOL

Obama Nutcases are just plain despicable and I am sick of them threatening everyone. They did the same thing at those bogus “caucuses”. People were downright terrified of these thugs. They should all be jammed into jail cells for harrassment. Imagine how violent they would be with this rebel rouser as president. We would all need guns to protect ourselves from this street maniacs. I have no idea how these people were raised, but it can’t be good. That is why we must all vote for McCain if Obama steals the nomination but blocking florida and Michigan from voting. He is as abmonible as his miserable fans are.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-31 18:13:33

Too funny - your comment sounds exactly like the “coded language” that Obama’s been accused of over at MyDD (Obama is George Wallace post).

Typical GOP troll I see.

Comment by Pete | 2008-03-31 19:08:31

A Democrat for nearly 30 years, twit. Longer than you’ve been around, I’m sure. It’s just that I would rather have almost anybody be my president than that Chicago thug tool Obama. How’s that? Guess what else? I’m not even close to being alone. That’s just how sick we are of Obama and his lackies, like you, for starters. In fact, I would vote for a cartoon character before I would vote for him.

Comment by Nellie | 2008-03-31 19:43:30

Pete,

For the sake of simplicity I figured out appropriate titles:

If you ever have a chance to look st the Chicago Sun-Times,Lynn Sweets blog, you will see that AA’s nicknamed Obama “Bambi” back in 2003 (amazing those who know him best like him least)

So we can have “Bambi-Twit” the cults leader

Bambi-Brats are the slavish followers.

I just sent Mr. Nutter a thank you email. In a primary cycle where the Obama campaign has pushed to disenfranchise millions of voters and threatened super-delegates into switching their allegiance to Obama, it has been nice to see that there are some who stand their ground and choose to do what they believe to be is the right thing for the USA.

No. The only way to beat Hillary was to smear her with false accusations of racism and race-baiting, and that is exactly what his campaign did. Out of an understandable sense of community, only a brave few African-Americans stood up for her or Bill Clinton in the face of Obama’s divisive tactics, and those who did were intimidated with primary challenges or, in some cases, death threats from the Obama camp.
