There’s “Hillary Fever” in Kentucky (Open Thread)
By NoQuarter on March 31, 2008 at 12:11 AM in Hillary Clinton, Kentucky, NAFTA, Open Thread
Do you think these people, shown in this video — these salt-of-the-earth people — deserve a chance to help choose the nominee on May 20? Do you? How about you, Howard Dean? How ’bout you, Nancy Pelosi? And you, Patrick Leahy? (And who gives a damn what you think about anything anyway, Mr. Leahy.)
Kentucky’s primary is May 20th. Here’s more from Lexington, Kentucky’s newspaper:
State Democrats feel primary passion
Clinton says Kentucky essential to her bid
MADISONVILLE – A slightly hoarse New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton declared Kentucky Clinton territory and a necessary electoral building block for her White House bid.
“As you know, this state has voted for a Clinton before — twice, in fact,” she told a nearly packed gym at the Madisonville North Hopkins County High School Saturday night.
[...]
Putting her spin on the message of hope often used by Obama, Clinton said that stumbles — on the campaign trail or on Wall Street — can be overcome.
“I’ve never stayed down, and America’s not going to stay down,” she told the nearly 3,500 Western Kentucky Democrats attending the Ruby Laffoon Dinner, a party fund-raiser that became a Clinton rally. “But I need your help.”
Clinton didn’t mention Obama by name at either stop, but repeated a familiar charge that she has more substance than the Illinois senator.
“This election is not about the speeches we give, but about the solutions we offer,” she said in Louisville.
She also hit on key Kentucky issues, such as coal mining and the shrinking manufacturing base.
“When I tell the people of Kentucky that I’m going to renegotiate NAFTA, I mean it,” she said — a line that resonated with the blue-collar crowd in Madisonville.
The Louisville crowd cheered loudly when she said there should be no tax benefit for any business that exports jobs from Kentucky.
She also said the nation needs stronger mine safety regulations and promised, if elected, to encourage ways for coal to ease the need for oil.
“I want to keep coal as a major part of our energy creation, but it’s got to be cleaned up,” she said. … Read all.

How are things looking on the ground in KY? How bout NC, too and when is that primary?
Sorry to sound lazy, but I am locked on a dial-up line tonight.
I get the sense that Hillary’s organization is good in Kentucky. We should be hearing more soon … there are a lot of news articles about Hillary’s appearances in Kentucky, and the wildly enthusiastic reception she’s getting there.
OT: But this is hilarious; go to taylor marsh and look at Obama’s picture (hint focus on the phone)
http://www.taylormarsh.com
Now: YEAH KY for HILLARY!!
I saw that pic last week … it is funny. I bet he was doing it as a gag though. (I hope.)
Got another great clip to put up … will wait an hour.
It just goes to show you, Obama is a repeat of Bush.
One mental midget following the footsteps of the other.
How could these Obama fanatics be so stupid as to get
hustledhoodwinked by this bamboozler? He has said his three influences for foreign policy are: JFK (rabid Anti-Communist), Reagan (i don’t remember where to bomb next) and Bush I (read my lips, New World Order)
when did he say that bush or reagan were his foriegn policy influences… or are you interpreting?
Photo was photoshopped - that’s obvious from looking at it… funny though.
Yes, he was probably either zombie or he did it as a joke; but it’s funny. Of course it it was HRC it’d have been plastered all over the news ; for days and days and days…
I like the caption at the bottom of the picture in the link http://rense.com/general81/poser.htm
Oh wow. That’s a riot. I’m sending you an e-mail. Look for it.
I love how the Clintons go to the little places. This is how Bill helped Hillary to win the popular vote in Tex. 50 stops in a pickup truck.
I have a good photo of that Pickup Truck stump speech. Great old fashioned campaigning.
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from them Dems,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Obama’s Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Oh Lord Obama , won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next town,
Oh Lord Obama , won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
Obama’s friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
That’s it!
That’’s really funny TeakWoodPike, very creative !
Janis Ball and Chain…it is what popped into my head…And I kinda feel odd messin’ with her lyrics but there it is.

Oh, my god. I kept casting around in my memory, but it took me until the end to remember–had to be Joplin. Nice, really nice. How about something on Bob Seger’s “I wanna be part of the UMC”?
Okay so the guy who just finished paying off his college loans with proceeds of two best selling books he actually wrote himself, is the elitist compared to the couple who made 109 million since leaving office?
Taylor Marsh says that Howard Dean “is correct. He’s not afraid of letting Americans vote.” He emphasizes again and again that the voting will continue through June. Please don’t imply that he’s putting his thumb on the scale — it is a gross disservice to the public discourse.

Pelosi, for her part, does seem pro-Obama but she hasn’t certainly called for Clinton to withdraw, nor has she asked people to not vote.
Has anybody heard this rumor about NC SDs coming out for Obama before the NC Primary?
Anyway, I just emailed my profound outrage to Donna Brazile. Care to join me?
donna@brazileassociates.com
Heard nothing about it, mimi
forgive me…what are SDs…South Dakotans? fill me in. Southern Democrats?…what is it
super delegates,
Not a social disease.
“super delegates,
Not a social disease.”
depends on who you ask on any given day.
Glad to join you mimi. I sent her an email that should scorch her eyebrows without once using an expletive or an insult. I took the high road while still expressing my outrage and disappointment in her as a woman and a Democrat.
These people need to hear from us. Because if they continue the way they are going, we can watch another damn war-mongering Republican enter the White House. And that’s only marginally worse, IMO, that a wishy-washy, arrogant, whiny, little Democrat who thinks he’s the one.
I certainly don’t agree with Sen. Leahy.
It’s starting to look like Kentucky and all those other late primary states are going to be important.
SDs = Super Delegates
Gee, looks like the people of Kentucky have had enough of this Bataan Death March primary season and want Hillary to quit, doesn’t it? :>)
Let’s see to it that Hillary ends the primary season with an impressive winning streak. Let’s see the media try to spin that.
God, why did I miss that one…thankya John.
Anagrams get thrown around and sometimes I forget their meaning.
I love when the press get their asses handed to them.
They’ll spin and twist and lie as necessary. It’s not as if we’re dealing with people of integrity here. Although sometimes it is amusing to watch them lie with such a straight face when they have to know there is tape of them saying something totally different from their present stance. Perhaps that’s the “wide stance” Larry Craig was talking about?
Yes, but according to Andrew Sullivan, these people don’t count because they are old, white racists.
Will someone please do a post on Andrew Sullivan? Susan, Larry, et al: you’ve done them on Frank Rich, but what about one of the biggest Hillary-haters of them all: Andrew Sullivan? He has said that Hillary gives him “cooties.” Such a rational analysis!
Also, I don’t have cable, so I never see Olberman. But he was on network last night interviewing someone that you’ve dealt with here, I think his name was Wolf. Olberman was throwing him marshmallows. Disgusting. At one point, Wolf said, “everyone wants this thing over.”
I turned off the TV before I blew a gasket.
I wish to say a few things about dear old Andrew Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan came here from England totally enamored with Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. You would think as some kind of self-respecting gay man, Mr. Sullivan would have recognized that the scrouge of HIV and AIDS went totally overlooked by President Reagan and was totally underfunded. Mr. Sullivan chose to ignore all of that due to his “Daddy worship” of Reagan.
Mr. Sullivan is an arrogant, misogynistic, snob!
He doesn’t like the state of American politics today and yet he and those like him did nothing but fund and support the political machine apparatus we have today for the past 20 years. You know how you get from point A to point B? By putting one foot in front of the other. Mr. Sullivan has consistently refused to acknowledge the part he has played in the development of this current political and economic climate. He would look down his nose at Kentuckians and yet refuse to acknoweledge that the free-market trade policies he has supported (i.e. Maggie Thatcher with the coal miners in England and Reagan and the air traffic controllers union here) have kept these people economically disenfranchised in the 21st century. Now Mr. Sullivan would paint all Kentuckians with the broad brush of racism so that he may disenfranchise them politically as well.
He’s an amoral ass and I would not read anything he had to say, let alone line a birdcage with it!!
In the last year of the Reagan presidency he choose to acknowedge the AIDS crisis. Reagan waited until the last day of February and said it was “Aids Awareness Month”. Sullivan, like his hero, is a hater.
This is open thread, right? I want to refer to 3 items:
1)Remember the NYer article “The Other Obama” 3/10/08? The first letter in response was published in the 3/31/08-I am trying to be discreet as it is a letter from a reader, and I have no idea what publishing rules are applicable. The letter was written by a professor emeritus from the University of MA commenting [strongly] on the dissonance between Michelle Obama’s printed beliefs re: life in American not being good, but rather is “mean” and her financial status.
University people, the adherents to political correctness, are touted as the supporters of BO, aren’t they? Perhaps such support is not as widespread as publicized.
2)Eric Alterman has an article “Out of Print” in the same issue of the NYer, examining print news in light of the burgeoning blogs. I thought it was well done, but would like to hear what you think.
3)Hilton Als reviewed two plays by Caryl Churchill. I am not familiar with the plays or the playwrights, but thought something was “off” in Als’ reviews, so I went to Wikepedia and the net for more info because I am not as PC as some. Sure enough, Als interpreted the plays completely differently from other reviewers. You really have to go there to get it.
That’s it, guys.
Hillary can stay in. Those salt of the earth people better pay their own bills rather than send her money.
Hillary can’t pay her bills. Warn the vendors!

Is Politico republican or did Obama plant that story? Does anyone know?
Both
Hill Fever in Hill country? Who could have imagined?
I felt that Howard Dean was a little biased telling the superdelegates to pick a candidate. They should wait for the upcoming contests to see how the candidates do before they pick sides. This is the kind of thing that pisses me off about Dean. I’m convinced that he is not nutrual at all. He pretends to be, but there are things he says that seem to suggest otherwise.
Howard Dean and Donna Brazille are trying to force Senator Clinton from the race so the redhot spotlight on their moronic decision to screw the Democrats from Florida and Michigan gets turned off. They only thing they have succeeded in turning off are the Democrats from the most loyal of demographics. These tin-earred idiots haven’t the courage to correct their mistake so the party will suffer in November. Howard Dean has well over spent any political capital he gained with the 2006 mid-terms results - he needs to go!

Possible link between Nadhmi Auchi and Jeremiah Wright, of Trinity Church, and the Nation of Islam, and Libya.
Turns out Auchi laundered money for both Saddam and Qaddafi. Farrakhan, and Wright, closely connected to Obama, and Obaam’s MONEY, are also connected to Qaddafi, per their visit, through the Nation of Islam, to whom Qaddafi tried to donate one billion dollars, in 1998. Obama, Rezko, and Jabir Herbert Muhammad, son of the founder of the Nation of Islam are CLOSE Chicago business associates, and are connected to Wright, Farrakhan, Auchi and Qaddafi, as well as each other. Auchi donated money to Rezko, and Obama, as well as much of Congress.
Muhammad Ali, also of Chicago, and the Nation of Islam, at one time, sued Jabir H Muhammad for using his name in conjunction with a false charity, which was headed by Rezko.
All, again, are connected to the Nation of Islam.
Charities are often money laundering fronts, aren’t they?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/world/monitoring/41605.stm
So, what are the Nation of Islam’s dirty money ties?
How does it connect to Wright, and Obama?
How does it connect to Auchi, and Qaddafi??
Does it connect further to terrorism, even the terrorism that hit New York?
Well, WHERE do terrorist kooks get their money, and financing from, anyway?
Qaddafi DID try to donate one billion to Farrakhan
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C05EEDE1139F93BA1575BC0A960958260
Other than the dirty, ill gotten money?
Qaddafi blew up what airliner over what country, again?
Rezko, and Obama.
Oh yes, Ky will go for Hillary double digits.
….Pelosi, for her part, does seem pro-Obama but she hasn’t certainly called for Clinton to withdraw, nor has she asked people to not vote….
What’s wrong with Nancy Pelosi these days? She’s looking nervous. I wonder what it’s all about?
Does anyone else think the Refer-a-Friend bonuses being given out are (in-part) a means to get low level players leveled up in time for WotLK? Get them into the fray, more addicted and increasing the longevity of their subscription?
