Barack & Randi, Cozy As Can Be [Three Updates — Third from Larry Johnson]

This is a screenshot of THE “sold-out” Green360 event in San Francisco at which Randi Rhodes uttered those disgusting remarks. It was an event apparently fully SANCTIONED by the Obama campaign as a fundraiser. It is on his official site. This is the very event where the utterly disgraced Randi Rhodes, now suspended indefinitely from Air America Radio, uttered the vulgar and hostile remarks about Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton.

Barack Obama condemned Don Imus, and demanded his firing. (But he won’t condemn his 20-year pastor.) Will he condemn Randi Rhodes, and demand her firing? Maybe not. After all, she spent every minute of every day of her show touting him, and dissing Hillary in the most disgusting ways possible. Click on the image to see the full view.

barackrhodes.jpg

OF NOTE: It was here at No Quarter that people first saw the video that brought Randi Rhodes down for her disgusting behavior, thanks to our very own video expert C.S. putting the video up on YouTube.

C.S. has called the campaign to see if they will repudiate this:

Here’s a photo for you of the Barack Obama website advertising this campaign “Evening with Randi Rhodes”

I also called the campaign and asked him to “repudiate” these comments and to “speak out against sexism”.

The lady on the phone was a bit upset to hear about this.

By the way, C.S.’s video has had 180,000 hits, and is ranked #2 at YouTube.

:::::::::::::::

UPDATE 1: Here is the link a new site with info on Rhodes: Obama Stole My Vote.

UPDATE 2: Nashville Talking has an excellent story on the Obama fundraiser at which Rhodes spoke: “Randi Rhodes Suspended For Remarks At Obama Event.”

UPDATE 3: (From Larry Johnson). I take no delight in the heat Randi is feeling, but what would we be saying if Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or any other rightwing radio personality appeared at an unofficial event and referred to Barack Obama as a “nigger”. Just writing the word is radioactive. Well boys and girls, as someone who has been married for thirty plus years let me assure you that a woman does not like being called a “whore”. This is an equally radioactive word. And Randi knows better.

I worry that Randi may be suffering a form of post-traumatic stress syndrome following  her mugging last year. I have been a guest several times on Randi’s show. Since I started advocating for Hillary I have become persona non grata among the progressive women radio personalities–Randi, Rachel Maddow, and Stephanie Miller. I have had the pleasure of meeting and chatting at length with each of these ladies. I found them delightful. But they, better than anyone else, should understand the misogynistic culture in America that encourages men to refer to women as whores, or cunts, or bitches. Those words are meant to dehumanize women and are similar in intent to the various vile terms used to deman African Americans.

Randi calling Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton “whores” is way out of line.  And I think the punishment is appropriate.  Randi, Geraldine and Hillary are accomplished, professional women and merit respect.  Unfortunately for Randi, she has tarnished her reputation.  I would simply encourage fans of Hillary to not engage in the same conduct in talking about Randi or any of her progressive radio show colleagues. They may be wrong, but calling them equally vile names does nothing to advance the argument that Hillary is a viable candidate and a classy lady.

I have to laugh, I just saw this and was coming to give you the link. Why does this not surprise me? Kind of OT but this is an interesting article about the Infection known as BO http://www.liberalrapture.com/

Lyn,
I just went to your link, Liberal Rapture.
Great article, talking about Obama Infection, taking problem as seriously as it should be taken. Then, lo and behold, after about four very strong paragraphs, page is blank. This could, of course, be just a problem with the site, but after a few months of finding so many anti-Obama videos and articles disappeared (including a diary of my own on another site, first disappearing, all the comments too, over 200 of them, then appearing again after I posted about it, then disappearing again) I am sure there are Obama hackers all over the Internet.
This is another symptom, as they say at that site.
Then, how about all those Republican looking men (all men) in expensive suits looking oh so serious and scary sitting behind him for his many speeches given almost every day covered by media as major event while Hillary’s substantive speeches are sound bites.
This is another symptom.
I recommend this article, even only for a few paragraphs. Also, can anyone contact them to tell them most of page is missing. Contact info missing, too. Unless hacker fixed it already.
I am disgusted.

Comment by simon | 2008-04-04 12:41:24

If you find the PR company, you ‘ll find the problem.

Easy as that, hold the Greenberg Traurings responsible, and it will stop. They want the money, the illusion of power. They’re all Rezko, they’re all Stuart Levine.

Script kiddies are not a big deal, the whole technical “superiority” of those people is WAY overblown.

Like, did you ever hear the Pentagon go on about Chinese hackers?

I always wonder how they do that with a straight face.

heh.

Thanks for the link. The article/opinion is excellent.

I also found the article on the potnetial voter fraud at caucuses to be both compelling and scary. I wonder if anything will come of that.

Un frickin believable!

I have seen some screw ups in my day, but this at an officially sanctioned Obama fundraiser? I had no idea.

And I am sure that that is exactly what Obama will say too.

This story needs to be cross posted EVERYWHERE!

Comment by susiewat | 2008-04-04 12:01:29

I think we should all send the link to this article to nbc, cbs, abc, msnbc, fox and all the news channels. If they get hundreds of emails about the same thing they won’t be able to ignore it - I can’t believe they didn’t let everyone know this was an Obama fundraiser (well, yes I can, duh! we’re talking about the Big O)

Comment by StephanMoore | 2008-04-04 18:21:14

This was a supporter generated fundraiser…not sanctioned by Obama. Not that truth will stop you all from blaming Obama.

I am a member of the Obama site, I can have a funraiser for him and it would be advertised on his site. I can have a donation drive and it will be advertised on his site, I could have a party to support and tell about his policies, and it would be advertised on his site. That does not mean that Obama sanctioned it.

It’s funny because until recently Randi was a Hillary girl, big time. But then at one time so was I

SOLD OUT: An Evening with Randi Rhodes (Obama supporter) (Meeting)
*To folks wondering the Obama campaign was somehow affiliated with this event, please know that it was in no way sanctioned, authorized, or endorsed by the Obama for America campaign. This was a fundraiser put together by a San Francisco radio station (you can see their explanation of the event here http://www.green360.com). This website is one of hundreds of thousands of user-generated websites you can make on My.BarackObama.com.*

NOTE: GREEN 960′S WEBSITE SAYS THE EVENT IS SOLD OUT. PERHAPS THERE WILL BE NO-SHOWs AT THE DOOR, BUT FYI SO NO ONE IS DISAPPOINTED. I DO NOT CONTROL TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT. THIS IS GREEN 960′S EVENT.

Come join other Bay Area Obama supporters for an evening with Air America host Randi Rhodes!

She was quieter in her support earlier in the primary season, but this week Randi Rhodes has been on fire with her passion for Obama (and disappointment/anger with his opponent). Today (3/7), she spent nearly her whole show urging people to get to Pennsylvania or to call Pennsylvania on behalf of Senator Obama.

Let’s show her some Bay Area love and have a chance to get together socially as well. Spend your afternoon phonebanking and then join us (in Obamawear of course) for a great evening. Doors open at 5:30 pm, event is at 6:00 pm.

This event is $5 at the door, and you sign-up in advance via Green 960 radio station’s website.
http://www.green960.com/pages/events.html?feed=211592&article=3368653

After the event, we can all head to a place in the neighborhood for drinks and organizing for winning Pennsylvania, the nomination and the White House.

Note: The new disclaimer at the top was added some time after the call to the campaign. It was not on the website as of 12pm EST.

Hillary is a f—-ing w—e and Bill Clinton is a ranting racist. Obmadroids are shallow AND hypocritical with their kumbaya palaver.

Randi, Stephanie, Ed, Rachael and Keith are boring in their daily diatribes against the former FLOTUS because she has the absolute gall to compete to the end and allow democracy to continue for 10 more contests.

I bet they will want UNC or KU to give up if they are down a few points with 10 minutes to go tomorrow.

Obama and his campaign remind me of “I’m the uniter”, President Bush. You can make all the pretty speeches in the world about unity, but your actions, and the actions of the people campaigning for you-speak volumes. If he is supposed to be the uniter, then why is the democratic party so divided right now. Why are so many of his supporters making divisive comments filled with rage and hate? (just go to the Obama blogs if you need proof). I was very upset by Randi Rhodes’ comments, and if Obama has her for this event, then indeed there should be a backlash to his usual doublespeak. Say one thing, but do another.

Comment by Catriley | 2008-04-04 12:35:06

The scary thing is that Obama reminds me of Bush in many, many, ways. His inability to speak off the cuff about issues; his associations with questionable people that suddenly become “just some guy I met once”; Rove = Axelrod; His acting like he’s above it all while his fans and campaign and surrogates are vile toward his opponents; his puffed up resume; the uniter as divider crap; and his projection of his own flaws and misdeeds onto other. The list goes on….

Comment by TeresaINPa | 2008-04-04 17:06:46

Yes, he reminds me of bush too. I am hoping that something happens that exposes him or his simplistic rhetoric will do the trick and we will get another untried apprentice president if McCain looses to Obama.

Comment by Nu_Cat1992 Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-04-04 17:57:09

There is absolutely no way you can compare Obama to Bush. The mere fact that there is sooo much negativity on this site is scary. Both sides’ surrogates have said nasty things about the other. So the holier than thow acts need to stop. I might be a supporter Obama, but I’m not looking at him through rose colored glasses. Is he perfect? No. But who is? HRC? Not at all. So vote for who you’re going to vote for, but WE should all leave the negativity at the door!

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-04 21:15:00

Give me break, please. Geraldine Ferraro tells the truth (the SAME THING that Barack himself and John Kerry have said) to a reporter of a local newspaper, while Randi goes to a BO fund raiser and says this… and they’re equal.

Only in Bizzaro-bama World.

Comment by JoeySky | 2008-04-04 11:30:19

My God! I didn’t know that it was a fund raising event for Obama. The mainstream media conveniently omitted to report that part.

They clapped and cheered gleefully for the abusive language. And they expect Hilary supporters to vote for Obama in GE. They must think we are dump.

Who divides the party? Who stands for hate speech? Is this the new politic per Obama’s book? No way in hell I will vote for Obama.

I am stunned that Randi would say those hateful words in public in the first place, but that she would do it at an Obama event? What the hell was she thinking? Does she really think she’s doing him any favors with that crap?

My main question is this: Why is Big Progressive Media so determined to hand the election to John McCain?

Comment by Anne | 2008-04-04 14:46:10

My question is, when is he going to donate to charity the money raised at this event? Oh, wait - I keep forgetting that he would not have known anything about this, didn’t hear it himself, wasn’t present, and just can’t help what an overenthusiastic supporter did.

Obama may be the best thing that happened to charitable giving.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-04-04 16:19:14

Randi drank the Obama Koolaid and now she has lost her moral compass. When this election is over Randi will be another victim of the hate she once decried. So this was done at an Obama fundraiser–and Senator Obama will not say a word about it.

Like with Wright Obama will say I don’t know the lady and I can’t comment. Then he will say he met her a couple of times and when he was with her she was kind and thoughtful. Women voters make up a majority of the voters in this country but Obama doesn’t care if he throws us away.

Give me Hillary or make me an Independent.

Comment by Nu_Cat1992 Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-04-04 18:01:12

Better yet, why is McCain getting a free pass right now? He had a supporter call HRC a b@#$% and there was little uproar. All the name calling should stop for sure. But isn’t b#$@% worst than whore? Oh, it was an Obama supporter that said it, so that’s why its more important, right?

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-04-04 11:40:39

WHAT!? You mean Hillary Clinton is not directly responsible for releasing that video (as is charged by Obamocrats over at MyDD!)?

The fact that Obama is behind Randi Rhodes MUST find it’s way into the press.

I can only imagine the outcry if Rhodes had been at an AAR fundraiser for Hillary and her “comedy routine” had used racially based slurs instead of gender based ones. If you subsitute them out in your mind, it is clearly hate speech. Why is this so mystifying to so many?

Oh. I forgot. IOKIYABO…

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-04-04 11:45:21

Courtesy of Nicole Belle over at Crooks & Liars:

I’m a fan of Randi, but this is completely unacceptable. Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing that happens in the heat of a long, drawn out primary season.

Dog whistle anyone? “This is what happens when that evil Hillary Clinton doesn’t get out of the race.” Poor, poor, little potty-mouthed Randi Rhodes, who is just exhausted from this “long” “drawn out” primary season.

Many of the people commenting on this piece at C&L think that what Rhodes did was perfectly acceptable, that the Hillary campaign got her suspended, and that her suspension is a limit of free speech. Which shows just how much they understand:
1. Free speech
2. Acceptable behavior from a so-called lib to a Democratic candidate
3.That Randi Rhodes and her total lack of class aren’t good for the party, the country or her radio station.
And last but not least, she wasn’t funny she was just crude.

Much to my surprise, color me Goshwoggled, Air America, AKA the Obama radio station, did the right thing. Whodathunkit?

And that this was an Obama fund raising event? Not a surprise. Obama and his supporters have shown a total lack of respect for anyone that dares thwart them in any way. Perhaps among all those young and enthusiastic People we are supposed to be so glad are joining the party it’s all right to talk about other candidates this way. To people with the slightest hint of decency, it is not.

I can swear right along with the best of the Boy Bloggerz where I so inclined. But mostly, except when I am really angry, I save the big “F” for flavoring in discourse not as the meat of it. Randi acted like an adolescent in a school yard. Worthy of the Obamatron she had become.

Watch for her whining on a cable channel near you. If you have the stomach for it.

Comment by tiffany | 2008-04-04 14:53:45

I have stopped going to Crooks and Liars because I sense that the site has too many immature, crazy and probably paid commenters. Nicole loves Obama and will excuse, defend and accept anything he does.

I noticed their bias too. But I still go there once in a while to post something nasty when they are on one of their beatification’s of Rachel Maddow and insisting that she should get her own show. Since I think she’s become just another Obama shill I find that idea loathsome.

Damn, is there no place left not infested with Obamatrons?

Comment by Lin | 2008-04-04 11:57:34

If there is no oversight on the campaign website (where you have COMPLETE control, contrary to what one poster wrote), then how can we expect oversight from an Obama presidency. This was just another example of keystone kops at work in the Obama camp…

You can’t know what entertainers are going to say, that is true, you take care of it as best you can beforehand and encourage them to be somewhat respectful of the opponents…that is what a smart producer of an event of this magnitude would have done. I doubt that occurred because she would have been stopped in mid-routine, and she wasn’t.

I have always liked Randi Rhodes…even if she was a bit nuts. Not any longer… she not only harmed the campaign with this, but she badly bruised liberals and progressives by setting us up as an ugly group of people…which we are not.

With everyday that passes its getting harder and harder for Clinton supporters to vote for Obama. When he doesn’t decry this hate speech then he is motivated by it. Add women to the ever growing list of the American people Obama would throw under a bus for not worshiping him. So now I am a typical white person, a boomer and a woman. I’m a 3-fer for Obama to hate.

What a nightmare if he is the nominee - his supporters are making McCain’s ads for him! Joe Sixpack may talk like that with his buddies, but he sure doesn’t want his kids to hear it.

Whether the event was sponsored by the Obama campaign or not, terrehauteforBO, the fact remains that it is still on the website. They are condoning Rhodes’ behavior by keeping it up on the Barack Obama website.

Hillary Clinton would never keep an event on her website where the headliner of the fundraising event called Michelle Obama a “[expletive] whore.”

Get the picture? From Rezko to Wright to Randi Rhodes: Barack Obama chooses some very strange friends, I must say. Doesn’t say much about his “judgment” if you ask me!

The Obama campaign should take it down unless they support Randi Rhodes’ disgusting behavior.

Feel the Unity, brother.

Early in the campaign, it was suggested by some Obama projected the new JFK.

After watching the Penn video from the other day, the one with the autograph seeker, it occurred to me Obama was now projecting Homey the Clown, from “In Living Color.”

“Homey don’t like that, brother.”

Oh, gosh, I hope that’s not a racist reaction from a typical (half white) person…

I just want to cry. I can’t believe how many democrats on the internet are condoning this!

Apparently many democrats believe it’s acceptable to call female democrats whores.

John McCain took the time to denounce Bill Cunningham’s disparaging remarks about Obama, (calling him a hack and using his middle name for politcal effect.)

And those were comments against his opponent!

Surely we can demand at least as much from Obama when the hate speech was directed towards female members of his own party??

Or is being called a whore by your own party simply something prominent democratic women should adapt to? Because if this is the kind of behavior democrats are going to condone, then this is not a party I want to be a part of.

Where are the feminists supporting him?

Maria Shriver? Her husband is still governor of California, right? This happened in San Francisco. Does she want to comment about this?

Ariana whose website stirs the pot until the hate boils over?

Where are the “women” in the party? I don’t care if you support HRC or like Gerri Ferraro, this type of thing is NOT ACCEPTIBLE.

I’ve decided that being a Stepford Wife looks a lot better than being a Democratic “Wh*re.” No vote for BO even for party “unity” since they don’t give a sh*t about female voters.

Comment by yttik | 2008-04-04 12:25:14

This is such an outrage!

The country is truly upside down when you’re left listening to Sean Hannity condemn the remarks as vile and sexist. I mean come on, Fox news gets it, but progressive democrats don’t?

I don’t even like McCain, but he’s shown more integrity and commitment to clean campaigning then Obama has. At least McCain spoke out against divisive language being used against Obama by Bill Cunningham. At least McCain had the decency to look embarassed when a supporter asked him “how do we beat the bitch?”

Why not?

I put a post on my blog about Samantha Power’s “monster” remark. I got this comment in response:

Personally, I think Hillary is a monster. At the very least, she’s monster-ish.

That being said, Power knew right after the Scotsman piece ran that Obama was going to cut her loose. She said she was under the guillotine in a radio interview before the story really broke stateside.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that Samantha resigned.

Obama is walking the walk on this whole civility thing, like him or not. Clinton did the same thing with her NH guy’s druggie remarks, to her credit.

It’s hard for me to imagine her cutting loose a key adviser for having an off the record quotation used in an article in a paper with a questionable history in these matters (ask Jonathan Turley or Tucker Carlson about the Scotsman).

Hell, her lackeys are doing some slightly more nuanced namecalling every day and Howie “Son of Wolf Man” and Mark Penn are still plotting whatever one-day sinister scheme is coming next. Personally, I’d rather be a monster than Ken Starr.

I think this whole thing makes me feel a little warmer and fuzzier about Obama. He’s actually willing to enforce the civility thing. Clinton, meanwhile, thinks that “kitchen sink” bullshit and cheapshotting is the “fun part”.

Whether you agree with me about the justification for considering Hillary monster-ish or not, it’s hard to beat up on Obama on this one.

Yours truly,
John Brown

They are out of their fucking minds.

Comment by Catriley | 2008-04-04 12:47:28

They are totally out of their minds. They get their panties in a bunch over a comment about Obama’s ADMITTED drug use and how it would affect his electability (which is a totally reasonable argument considering how the rightwing went after Bill’s “I didn’t inhale” comment… yet are strangely silent when Hillary is called a f*cking wh*re” and worse. The thing that many of the MSM and Obama fans who do not follow these things, is that his supporters are calling her things like that daily on the internet — and worse. The majority of his fans don’t get into those blog sites and have no idea of the hate coming from his supporters and surrogates. They just feel all warm and fuzzy when he gives his Axelrod recycled speeches. Makes them feel all ooey gooey liberal inside.

AFAIK, Clinton doesn’t take money directly from terrorist supporters(Obama and Auchi, the whole Qaddafi thing with the nation of Islam, Ayers, et al) and Clinton didn’t betray the public trust, and money, to make her fortune.

I mean, Obama let the corrupt IL small town hood Rezko pay for his backyard, among other tithes, and snacks.

The FBI mole John Thomas said Obama and Blagojevich visited Rezko every day, Blago is up to his neck in corruption, and if Obama is the other side of that coin, well, Fitzgerald should be knocking at his door, very soon.

Hard to see how it cannot happen.

And in the end, it’s all that really matters, why do you take money from men who enable others to murder innocent Americans(and others, of course)? Why do you betray the public trust, STEALING, to make a little money?

This guy was simply blowing smoke, and not very well.

Some would say he missed the dynamic, entirely, in his attempt to misdirect oh so subtlety, but, you know, those PR types are never what they sell themselves as, ever.

Misdirection, why give it a second thought, he was trying to confuse and intimidate you, and not very well, at that.

I don’t know, I just can’t help but feel scorn and contempt for those people, they are illiterate fools.

That is exactly what infuriates me. Racism is not condoned and warrants a speech and attention. The Sexism is OK and is perpetuated by the members of the DNC, the MSM and many in the blogs. They were all silent when Hillary and women were verbally attacked and ridiculed. Their silence will not be forgotten by me and they will not get my vote or my money. The Democrats treat their women like s*it. The Republicans would have never allowed their female candidate to get trashed this way. I will not vote Republican but it shames me to see my party behave this way. NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR A THIRD PARTY!

I swear I have been thinking this more and more - that Hillary should do a third-party run. There’s a party in NY that is called the Working Families Party - it’s very progressive. I’ve voted for their candidates several times.

I’m sure it won’t happen, though, but it’s a nice dream.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-04-04 16:41:49

madamob — I think Hillary should run as an Indpendent. Why should she be loyal to a party that wants to sink her? There are alot of fat cats in this country who want to drive the middle class into the ground, while Hillary wants the peace and prosperity which we enjoyed in the 90’s. If Hillary ran as an Independent she could derail Obama’s candidacy or perhaps even win. Only Hillary is talking about the issues we all care about. God Bless her and let her run.

Guess that means Imus should be rehired, if that talk is okay.
Oh, I get it, it was just the nappy-headed part that was offensive.
Back when Imus occurred I remember seeing the team coach and a few players mention the sexism several times and it struck me how the media never seemed to pick up on this part. Just the race part. It bothered me then, too. Because if that had been a male basketball team, I doubt any of that would have happened. Obviously not, really. Look at all male AA athletes and respect they receive. Never heard them insulted that way.

So then these progressive blogs are saying that sexism is all right, I guess.
Nice.
Also, Obama knowing or not knowing all these things. Re Wright, he should have known. Since when is not knowing a defense? How about all those things he won’t “know” as president?

I don’t know why I keep on getting outraged and disgusted he does this. It is a pattern of his:
Wright, Meeks, NBP, Rhodes… You can’t go wrong so many times unless you yourself believe this sh–
and I believe Obama is “the great pretender”….

There is good article today by Juan Williams on Obama and King :

Forgot Michael Pfleger; whose endorsement was also proudly displayed on Obama’s webpage…

All of them: it is no coincidence, no “oversight” no mistake. It is a pattern that tell you louder than anything else what Obama tolerates, shares; in short: who Obama really is.

Here is Larry’s post and video of Pfleger in case you miss it..

Hate is a much more powerful emotion than love. Thats what Obama is counting on.

The Obama campaign is the opposite of what it claims to be. Mr. Hope is no more hopeful than George Bush is compassionte. He’s a cynical politician who has done everything he could to smear the Clintons.

I won’t repost my long passage on misogyny; I know that at No Quarter I’d be preaching to the choir–thank god. But Ferraro is of course right. Obama is an opportunist and I predict will let the vile RR “performance” issue float as a meme until something forces him to speak up.

On another matter, in regard to the banning, censorship and the lack of solidarity among the progressive bloggers, here’s a post by Universal, another banned blogger from MyDD who, along with others, did not have the opportunity to rebut the censorship that Fleaflicker graciously extended to Linfar.

Don’t you all just love how Barack Obama just brings us all together???? (To look at how awful he is) He has really united real democrats around Hillary. We know a fake when we see one…….. He just makes me sick…

Comment by JoeySky | 2008-04-04 12:26:21

Ohhhhhhhhh Yes! He’s a Great Pretender.

As everyday passes the chance that HRC supporters will vote for him diminishes.
