Hillary Sexism Watch: Castrating Bitch Edition

By Melissa McEwan of Shakespeare’s Sister blog

Part Seventy-Six in an Ongoing Series. (Previous parts linked at end of post.)

Are you fucking kidding me, Josh Marshall? Because I quite honestly can’t believe that a person who identifies as a progressive and has two brain cells still knocking together doesn’t understand why it’s problematic, to put it charitably, to frame Hillary Clinton pushing her male chief strategist from power as “gelding” him.

* * *

I find it difficult to believe that a man of your intelligence doesn’t know that “to geld” means to castrate, and I find it similarly difficult to believe that a man of your experience doesn’t know that powerful women are routinely cast as castrating bitches, and I further yet find it difficult to believe, in light of your constant reminders that you’ve spent a good part of your adult life defending the Clintons, that you are totally unaware of the existence of “hilarious” novelty items like the Hillary Clinton nutcracker.

So where exactly is the disconnect, Josh, that allows you to use such disgusting language in reference to a sitting senator and presidential candidate? Or any woman, for that matter.

With “allies” like these…

[Hillary Sexism Watch: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen, Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty, Twenty-One, Twenty-Two, Twenty-Three, Twenty-Four, Twenty-Five, Twenty-Six, Twenty-Seven, Twenty-Eight, Twenty-Nine, Thirty, Thirty-One, Thirty-Two, Thirty-Three, Thirty-Four, Thirty-Five, Thirty-Six, Thirty-Seven, Thirty-Eight, Thirty-Nine, Forty, Forty-One, Forty-Two, Forty-Three, Forty-Four, Forty-Five, Forty-Six, Forty-Seven, Forty-Eight, Forty-Nine, Fifty, Fifty-One, Fifty-Two, Fifty-Three, Fifty-Four, Fifty-Five, Fifty-Six, Fifty-Seven, Fifty-Eight, Fifty-Nine, Sixty, Sixty-One, Sixty-Two, Sixty-Three, Sixty-Four, Sixty-Five, Sixty-Six, Sixty-Seven, Sixty-Eight, Sixty-Nine, Seventy, Seventy-One, Seventy-Two, Seventy-Three, Seventy-Four, Seventy-Five.]

Few have fallen as far into the Obamavoid as Josh Marshall has. It must have something to do with his trying to cover-up his early support of the War with Iraq.

A huge disappointment. But I gues “The Kool(aid) Kids all like him now.

He’s a slightly more polished up version of Andy Sullivan

I agree totally. Of course in Josh Marshall’s case, the little boy whose mother abandoned him by getting killed in a car accident when he was nine can never be forgiven.

Poor little abandoned Josh Marshall, full of anger and rage at women. They can never be trusted not to hurt you, right Josh?

Forgive me if this sounds too cynical, but I think it occurred to him to use the term, and he realized that his pro-Obama audience would eat it up. If that’s true, he felt it more important to please his audience than to avoid sexist terms.

Comment by Bud White | 2008-04-07 18:45:36

I think you’re right. Sexism is part of the game. Billary, Hitlery, Mrs. Bill…..very common name-calling on TPM. Markos, in my opinion, is the worse. Like Marshall, Markso has a Titanic ego, a powerful Web site, a cult-following, an elitist attitude, and a healthy dose of sexism. all the ingredients to be a blogger boy.

Comment by simon | 2008-04-08 10:37:26

Like Marshall, Markso has a Titanic ego, a powerful Web site, a cult-following, an elitist attitude, and a healthy dose of sexism. all the ingredients to be a blogger boy.

And like all blogger boyz, he sucks, too, no talent, but all that ego.

And, btw, someone mentioned the other day anti war protesters were useful.

No, not nearly as useful as a delusional right wing blogger, claiming to be left.

Marsko is weak, everyone sees it but him, same with the rest.

So how can that be manipulated?

Comment by Mary Jo Kopechne | 2008-04-07 18:55:46

Too cynical? Susan, I think you’re completely right.

Of course he knows what a freaking gelding is and his whole point is to entertain the Hateful Obama Followers by joining in the Blogger Boyz’s weenie wagging. It’s one big circle jerk!

ARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-04-07 21:26:01

I was writing that in a wee bit of an ironic style. Just a wee bit. (Of course he wrote that to titillate his pro-Obama audience. And he didn’t care if it was unseemly or sexist. He wanted to get a rise out of his followers.)

Comment by Kevin | 2008-04-07 19:19:12

it occurred to him only as much as using terms related to sexism, etc. seem to spring to mind for Hillary supporters - oh, it wasn’t a conscious decision?

That piece of veterinary equipment is called, “emasculators,” from the verb, “emasculate.”

Demonstrations cheerfully given.

Geld,” has lost much favor in usage, at least among those who actually know their fundaments from a hole in the ground. “Gelding,” usually refers to a stallion which has been emasculated to settle his temperament down by taking his mind off mare nookie.

An emasculated bull is called a, “steer.”

Usage: “Who the HELL is the gelding who thought this shit up?”

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-04-08 06:51:12

Oh I hope you’re right. Because these cretins need to know that their actions, their bigotry have consequences. And those consequences need to have teeth. Oh my, isn’t that another fear some males have about women? Sorry Josh, perhaps teeth and geld shouldn’t be used in the same paragraph or you will be frightened out of your tiny little misogynistic mind.

Comment by wry | 2008-04-08 10:22:14

Yeah, I read that too. My sister and I, opposite coasts, decided to just stop reading Huff Po, TPM and Daily Kos. We used to go there to stand up for Hillary, but now we just pretend they don’t exist. This is my favorite quote from a feminist blog below. I think it describes most net roots types who hate Hillary so much.

“you know who I see as the face of the Obama campaign? The angry white male geek who is consumed with rage at all things female in retribution for the fact that he isn’t screwing a supermodel yet.”

OT OT OT OT OT OT

Dear Larry Johnson:
I have been
searching in vain for a new essay from you, opening the big topic of the latest Clinton campaign set-back, involving Chief Campaign Strategist Mark Penn, who was also moon lighting as a trade lobbyists, seemingly contradicting the policy publicly announced by Sen. Clinton.

One would think this is at least as big a story as the former Clinton defense attorney, Craig, now involved with the Obama campaign, which you believed warranted his disbarment.

Does choosing and abiding by Lobbyist Penn’s campaign strategy raise questions about Clinton’s judgment and management abilities?
Is Mark Penn going to hang on with the campaign after the embarrassment because the Clinton campaign still owes him about $ 2.5 million?
We await your words…

Comment by simon | 2008-04-07 20:35:16

Does choosing and abiding by Lobbyist Penn’s campaign strategy raise questions about Clinton’s judgment and management abilities?

Not at all, wow, do you really believe what you wrote?

Not answering for Larry, but Clinton saw a problem with Penn, and released him, immediately. That, to me, is indicative of superior judgement, even integrity, courage, a BOLD move in a place where defiance is mistaken for sound judgement, and emotional strength. Bratty, personality disordered teenagers are defiant, world leader want to bees should be mature, and intelligent, able to manage chaos, form solutions around it, rather than flee from it, in fear, by boldy doing nothing, advocating on behalf of their half wits.

Obama, on the other hand, for some strange reason, keeps on those old grey mares, none of whom seem to do anything, but, “operate.”

Yeah, Obama hired a bunch of operators, what do they do, again?

Until Obama’s campaign boss David Axelrod steps back Hillary’s ahead of him in terms of abating the interest of potential conflicts.

In fact, Marsteller wasn’t making trips to the consulate on the Clinton Campaign’s behalf, as was Obama’s done by Austan Goolsbee, his chief economic adviser.

Has Goolsbee tendered a resignation yet from that position?
Has Axelrod resigned from the Obama campaign after doing lobby work for nuclear polluter Exelon, a company that bought up much of PA’s utilities providers?

A major PECO man and a major Illinois banker joined the Enron board for a while during the Enron takeover tries of PECO. Exelon of course, being the Illinois plant that has some major Obama bundlers/donors workinbg for them.

Power provider’s largess

Obama’s biggest single source of corporate money ? $160,000 ? came from executives at Exelon Corp., the nation’s largest nuclear power provider, and its subsidiary, Commonwealth Edison, an Illinois utility.

Exelon spent $500,000 to influence policy in Washington last year. Although Obama took no money from Exelon’s Washington lobbyists, he accepted $1,000 checks from lobbyists John P. Novak and James Monk of Springfield. In Springfield, Novak represents Exelon., and Monk is president of the Illinois Energy Assn., a trade group that represents Commonwealth Edison.

Monk and Novak said they do not lobby in Washington. But their clients care about federal issues, including where to store nuclear waste and what restrictions to place on coal-fired plants.

“I’m not going to second-guess his policy,” Novak said. “I think it is appropriate for me to support a presidential candidate from Illinois.”

http://www.caclean.org/content/problem/latimes_2007-04-22.php?path=problem/latimes_2007-04-22.php&

The story goes on to list other donors who have done lobby work, etc.

Lobbyists from other states also gave Obama money. In California, Obama accepted $2,300 from a partner whose lobbying firm represents AT&T, United Airlines and the Recording Industry Assn. of America in Sacramento.

Florida’s votes should not count, but its lobby money can?

In Tallahassee, Obama held a fundraiser attended by several statehouse lobbyists, taking checks from lobbyists for trial attorneys, the insurance industry, fast-food chains and sugar cane growers. State and federal issues often are related, as noted by the law firm Akerman Senterfitt, whose Florida-based members donated $7,000 to Obama. On its website, Akerman notes it combines Tallahassee connections with “an involved federal political action committee” to provide its clients “with an enviable level of access.”

Not just Florida is held to double standards by Obama’s position on lobby money.

On May 2, Obama is scheduled to attend a $2,300-per-ticket breakfast 10 blocks from the Capitol. The hosts include 22 lawyers. Although they are not federal lobbyists, three in the past have been registered lobbyists; they all work at firms that have Washington lobbying operations or hire outside lobbying firms to contact lawmakers.

That’s just part of the plan. Campaign as not taking money from the lobby, then schedule lobby visits after those races.

One lawyer co-hosting the Obama event has represented companies fending off litigation over toxic waste cleanup, and another represents employers on affirmative action requirements, force reduction and early retirement programs, their firms’ websites say.

Attorney Robert Sussman, one of the organizers, said in an interview that he was a registered lobbyist until recently, when he decided to help Obama raise money. So that he might do so, he said, the campaign requested that he drop his registration.

So he career is now ‘Professional Obama fundraiser,’ and his hobby is strictly lobby?

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2008-04-08 03:08:12

Comment by B-Rob | 2008-04-07 19:24:24

Solis miust be smokin’ some good shit . . . otherwose why would the Number One candidate, Obama, take a second seat behind someone he has already beaten? Doesn’t make sense . . . like asking the NY Giants to “share” the trophy with the Patriots. Giant fan to Pats fans: “Get your own f*cking trophy.”

The reality is — with the condescending way that Hillary has handled Obama, she should be happy to even be considered for a VP position, nonetheless expecting that the guy who beat the snot out her in the campaign would take a back seat to her. Alas, we know Hillary will never take the number two position. Why? Because as a friend put it, “Miss Daisy doesn’t drive!”

Comment by jes | 2008-04-07 19:30:14

The primary season is not over and Obama has not beaten Clinton. He is ahead by, I believe, approximately 1% of the delegates at this point.

Contrary to the MSM propoganda that they spew forth on a daily basis, that’s not a whole lot of daylight between the two candidates.

“with the condescending way that Hillary has handled Obama…”

You’re obviously dyslexic. You have that backwards. He’s played the race card, he’s been sexist. And neither he nor Michelle have apologized for misquoting Bill Clinton. Michelle stated in an article that she wanted to scratch his eyes out and furthermore that she would never campaign for Senator Clinton.

Yet, an article in the WSJ today qouted a one of Obama’s top officials as saying that they weren’t concerned about Obama’s declining poll numbers and the discension between the two camps. All that will change according to him in the GE because Senator Clinton will be campaigning for Obama.

Really?

Tell me, is Obama willing to camapaign for her should she get the nom? Is Michelle?

Here’s what I’ve been saying:

Josh Marshall supported the invasion of Iraq, his penance for that is to blame others and push Obama forward.

Even though Obama has never admitted he’d end the occupation within four years. In fact he never puts a date on when he’d end things, just says that he would ‘eventually’ end the troop deployments ‘at the current levels.’ That isn’t counting Blackwater, a firm he’s currently a fan of, Marshall really hasn’t been too critical of those items.

Josh Marshall, gelded, or ready for the Elmer’s glue bottle?

Comment by Salo | 2008-04-07 19:52:46

I get a sense that a large chunk of Obama’s fans are mainly repentant but never the less “unrepentant” former war backers.

The level of the argument over the IWR was almost childish both in the debates and the blogs.

It’s also the product of completely misunderstanding why Kerry lost in 2004.

It wasn’t that Kerry had initially backed the IWR that the voters returned Bush: it was that Bush was still selling victory.

The Dems are still essentially promising a retreat, but at least it is honestly presented. The Republicans are lying about the future. They know that they will eventually see American troops run off in ignominy.

You’ve got to be freakin’ kidding me. As out there as this phrasing was for Marshall - Noquarter has done similar if not worse… and to spend a single iota of energy on slamming him and the site just goes to show how far things have disintegrated.

Rather than discussing issues and policy differences between the 3 candidates - this site and others merely wallow in throwing mud at one another (”opposition sites” and the opposition in general).

Pretty damn sad.

Seriously - if you, like alot of the commentors have no regards for Mr. Marsh because he’s an “Obamatron”, etc. then why waste time pointing fingers and yelling “see we told you so!”?

You have to excuse them. I’m of the theory that the size of the ego is of direct inverse proportion to the size of the penis. I’m sure many of you have actually confirmed this in practice. You could see this is an epidemic problem what with so many of them having such large egos. They are all just very angry that they can no longer make it difficult for women to read maps, because we have figured out that four inches isn’t really six inches.

Leave them be. They weep and worry while their wives secretly can’t wait to go to the voting booth. Some of them who are alone still bring their laundry home to their mothers, you know. I have witnessed this. Later, they sit at the keyboard and Roar so that they might feel more virile than they actually are in real life.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-04-07 20:43:40

Anyone else catch Tom Hartmann filling in for Randi Rhodes this afternoon? He talked about how Sexism is at least as rampant in America as Racism– AFTER he had David Sirota (sic) on to repeat the baldfaced lie that “the Clintons” had made the campaign all about race by calling Obama the “black candidate” in South Carolina. Hartmann didn’t challenge him for evidence- its just gospel now, like Gore claiming to have invented the internet.

Shame on Hartmann. Good for him for taking on Sexism, shame on him for not calling out Sirota for lying his ass off about Clinton. You fail.

“AFTER he had David Sirota (sic) on to repeat the baldfaced lie that “the Clintons” had made the campaign all about race by calling Obama the “black candidate” in South Carolina”

Please identify all the “race based” statements Obama made prior to South Carolina.

And none of you have yet explained why Bill Clinton compared an elected US Senator from a major state who won the first election fight, to a loser like Jesse Jackson who, as Marion Berry once said, d”doesn’t want to run nothin’ but his mouth.” So have at it: why DID BC compare Obama and Jesse Jackson if NOT for their race?

Comment by mimi | 2008-04-08 00:11:04

“a loser like Jesse Jackson “

Excuse me, but Jackson won 11 Primaries and registered 7 million people under the banner of his Rainbow Coalition. Notice that it was called a Rainbow Coalition, not a Black Coalition.

Why?

Because in 1988, working poor people of all colors had had just about enough of ‘trickle down Reagan-nomics and Jackson attracted his fair share of multi-ethnic followers, blacks, latinos, Native Americans and even whites.

As an AA, I resent Jackson being called a ‘loser’ by you, while you exalt Barack Obama whose accomplishments and his commitment to the black community pale in comparison. Obama is only halfway through his first term as a US Senator and he hasn’t accomplished very much either in his 2 years. His 3rd year, he hasn’t done squat because he’s been too busy running for POTUS.

And to make matters worse, you quote a morally corrupt politician, a ‘crack addict’ felon, named Marion Barry to make your case. Barry is really an embarrassment and would have banished if only the AAs in DC had anything on the cap.

Obama should have been honored to have been compared to Jackson who, btw, ran a way more dignified and honorable campaign that didn’t cause nearly the divisiveness that Obama’s campaign has caused. And when it was over, Jackson united with the Democratic Party, was able to impact the Party Platform slightly and paved the way for many AAs like Ron Brown, for example, who became first the DNC Chariman as well as Secretary of Commerce under Bill Clinton. One thing’s for sure, Brown, as Chairman in 1992, didn’t allow nearly the chaos that Dean has allowed in 2008. He ran a tight ship, which is why Clinton tapped him for his Cabinet.

Your attitude is precisely the reason why I would never support Barck Obama. He has no regard for any AAs. He’s hoodwinked and bamboozled the black community into believing that he’s one of us even as he shows no regard nor commitment to our issues. He didn’t even show up at the MLK celebration, because, as Shelby Steele put it, “Obama’s back to running as a candidate who has transcended race, now that he feels he has weathered the Wright flap.” Trust me, that’s only temporary.

One more thing, Jesse Jackson paved the way for Obama. Without his run, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Mimi, mimi–I have wanted to say what you have said for a long time. I have become tongue-tied, however, when it comes to AAs. I remember Jesse Jackson’s campaign and his run for president. It was an exciting time. Thanks for the kudos for Jesse.

d”doesn’t want to run nothin’ but his mouth.”

Unfortunately, Marion Berry and Obama have something in common, sad as it is.

It was the wrench in the engine effect. It’s Hillary Clinton’s fault.

Sirota is another morally and intellectually “progressive” fraud. He loves to use the racism card to shut down any criticism of Obama or Wright not to mention one the bloggers who labeled Hillary and Bill as racists.

He and Markos are two peas in a pod.

Yeah . . . whining about sexism is a GREAT way to show you are ready to lead the free world.

Do you think Golda Meir cried when she did not get her way? What about Maggie Thatcher? Think she ever boo-hooed about people not being nice to her during he Falklands War. Benezir Bhutto stared down assassins and laughed at them . . . but Hillary can’t take a ribbing over her idiotic campaign manager?

Even closer to home Bela Abzug? Ella Grasso? Di Feinstein? Condi Rice? You think THEY whined about the unfair press they got? No! They buck up, take it, and move on.

If Hillary and Co. cannot handle asking if her a-hole of a campaign manager (who, mind you, was meeting with a foreign government about lobbying for a free trade pact her opponant opposes . . . real smart!) — if her manager was NOT gelded for acting like a moron, then that, too, speaks volumes about her poor judgment.

Condi Rice is a woman? I had no idea!

“Condi Rice is a woman? I had no idea!”

Do you want me to ask whether you are buying into the same dismissal of Black women as “women” that always pisses Black women off about White women? Or would you like to retract you statement?

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-07 19:25:34

I was waiting for the racist remark. You see, the Obama camp can’t handle the same thing you are telling us to suck up. Since we can’t hold you to the same standard you demand from us, well then we will just tell you to suck it up, sexist pig. Barack Obama goes into the fetal position every tiem somebody corners that rat, and you come here having the audacity to tell us that we can’t take it.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-07 19:27:00

And no I do NOT wish to retract my statement.

I knew you were calling out the TROLLS.

The bastards are trying to change the subject.

Obama is a wimp.

Mrs. Obama is a racist as is Donna Brazile.

“Obama is a wimp.”

The sentence should be “President Obama is a wimp”

Comment by Andy | 2008-04-07 20:58:45

The sentence should be “President Obama is a wimp”

Glad you recognize that he is a wimp.

But, what is he president of? His houselhold? Thought Michelle was …

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-04-07 23:21:59

You are an idiot — Obama will NEVER be President.

He his pissed off a major voting block — and we will see the Wimp go down. And we will help to bring him down if he manages to take the nomination by blocking Florida and Michigan etc.

I also want to see Mrs. Obama and DB go down because I find the behavior of Mrs. Obama and Donna Brazile almost more offensive — because they are women who are abusing other women for the sake of their man.
