Randi Rhodes Rips Oprah, Calls Her “Phony Black Preacher”

We’re following this with a highly relevant post by No Quarter reader, Sugar, who — we were pleased to find out — has her own blog and does some great writing there.

I wonder if AAR will bring Rhodes back.

And isn’t this a dandy way to begin Monday morning?

Randi Rhodes has probably never lived in a racially integrated neighborhood in her life. And yet, she’s decided that she’s an expert on black and white race relations. But in order to live in Rhode World you have to abide by her twisted definition of who is a racist.

I guess that she expects Oprah to speak in jive and rap. Per Randy, that an authentic black person. Personally, I would say that, in itself, a racist statement.

At any rate, it looks like they’re eating their own. How entertaining.

Say it isn’t so!!!!

You mean Randi just cannot stand to have a woman stand up and say something powerful,….unless its herself?

To be fair on this subject of her racial exposure, RR is a AF veteran and most likely had plenty of multi racial colleagues. What this does show is that RR is a hypcrite. She criticized BO before this state of the race and really railed on Oprah for her political rantings.

How can you tell what anyone thinks when this Loud Mouthed cretin refuses to let anyone make their point. Two AA people trid to tell her something and she was too in love with the sound of her own voice to listen.

Maybe that’s what’s wrong with talk radio, too much talking. :)

What really stood out for me was her theme of women faking. She really down and out on the girls in general. I guess if girl’s don’t talk like colorful longshoremen we are acting. I’m amused because I can preach (just ask my kids), I can talk like a colorful longshoreman (just ask my kids), I can talk like a carefully comtemplating adult and say almost nothing, I can plagiarize Aretha Franklin and sing into a hairbrush and sadly all of these facets are part of my authentic personality.

I am no fan of Rhodes. I think she is the left equivalent of Rush Limbaugh. However, I share the disgust with Oprah and Obama who speak in Ebonics just to cement their bona fides in the Black community. It is an easy way for them to say, “Yes, I’m really rich, but I never lost my connection to the authentic black experience”. It makes me sick, because neither Obama nor Oprah have done anything meaningful to help the black community in general.

Crabs in a bucket.

“… but I never lost my connection to the authentic black experience”.”

At least Oprah was connected to ‘authentic’ black experience. Obama is just posturing and pandering. Remember, he has no AA relatives except the ones he sired with Michelle.

If Rhodes can’t convey her opinion in a respectful way, she should remain silent. Nobody should give her the access to the microphone. She can rant her opinion at home to her cats & dogs.

I think it’s amazing RR attacking Oprah.
Oprah is BO’s girl! Is Oprah backing away from BO?? WTF? This is another sign RR is in free fall.

I think she went after Oprah before Barack offered her a kiss for her support.

If Dick Cheney is looking for a new torture device, i suggest that he makes his victims listen to Randi Rhodes rant–about anything! That woman definitely needs medication, IMHO.

I thought Randi loved The Oprah. Could it a b-tch slapping by 2 old gals who are fighting to be Obama’s main squeeze. Gee he brings out the worst in everybody.

Comment by The Gringo's Wife | 2008-04-07 14:41:47

(heavy sigh)

Randi is confused. It happens when you argue something to such a fine point that it has nowhere to go. But let us be honest, this is Randi. This is the Randi I always knew and still listening to when I agree with what she was saying.

But the whole race discussion is crap. We do not have a racial problem in America. American people of all color enjoy one of the best civil liberties afforded humans anywhere on the planet. So being black in America is NOT some form of slavery today.

Are there racist in America? Heya! Guess what? Man it is funny this may be news to some …

There is prejudice and racism in Japan, Spain, England … everywhere. Because racism and prejudice is an emotion born out of fear not an institution. You can’t regulate it. You can make a law but that doesn’t mean people won’t have hate in their hearts.

This argument is no less than the “abortion” one we had with the Republicans in ‘00 and 04. A distraction. It keeps everyone busy and away from Obama’s Rezko issues.

I am going to give Randi some slack. I think the argument is one that people in general don’t understand and even the AA community, as evidenced by the calls, still work to define its meaning. And she seems no less confused about how she should act most of the time herself. Is she black? Is she latin? Is she white?

The Gringo says: Too many hats cause mental confusion.

My minus $.02 (revised down for inflation)

People of color or ethnicity are by and large no different than anyone else.

I have an Uncle Jack. He is what many people call country (which means toothless, ignorant and ill dressing right?) but he is actually very well educated. When Uncle Jack is home with the family, he talks country. I visit my uncle often as we live in the same town. When I visit him at his office, you will not hear him talk country.

Hmmmmmmmmmm… what a racist cornhusker!

Latinos get chachi around their own.

Do Asians get smarter? Oh! How racist!

This is all silliness. Too many hours in the news cycle.

Oh… I almost forgot Oprah — she is “authentically phony.” I thought everyone knew that.

This was some of the more tame material from that horrific broadcast. She was in rare form on that day.

Comment by Jeanne | 2008-04-07 20:24:16

Man, I CAN NOT stand Randi!! She will not let anyone talk when they call into her show, if they are going to say anything that isn’t PRO-Randi. She is the most obnoxious talk show host….beyond Rush and I thought he was bad….she is beyond Ann Coulter. I quit listening to AAR because she is so annoying. I loved that channel and bought XM just to listen to it, but I can’t do it anymore. In the last 3-4 months she has gone overboard and I had to switch to POTUS 08 on channel 130. The man that called in on this clip knew she wasn’t going to let him talk and he said it as soon as she answered….and when he said he knew it, she was her usual smartass self and laughed out of knowing she wasn’t going to let him get a word in….she never does!! She only likes the sound of her voice on her own soapbox..I was glad they suspended her, but when I thought the coast MIGHT be clear to listen to the channel one time without hearing her, there was Sam Seder taking calls during her time slot and doing the same thing when anyone called and wasn’t supportive of Randi coming back. That was the last time I will ever try to listen again. She was suspended for calling Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary whores during an AAR sponsored “standup comedy” show…I can not even imagine comedy and Randi being in the same body….she is NOT funny…AT ALL. Honestly, I can’t believe she said anything against Oprah though, unless it’s because Oprah is higher on Obama’s list than Randi…can she spell jealous?? “His butt isn’t big enough for the two of us Oprah!”

Set up a Randi Watch. She might be the million monkeys on the million typewriters.
