Barack, Is That Your Cell Phone Or Are You Just Glad To See Me?
By Uppity Woman on April 10, 2008 at 6:39 PM in Barack Obama, Media, Media Bias, Obamedia, Sexism
Obama. What. A. Narcissistic. Self-Preoccupied. Pig
Now you understand why it’s ok to Obama if one of his swooners calls women “F–king Whores”. When their “candidate” can’t think of anything but sh-t, the sh-t rolls down hill.
How many women can recall a real narcissistic pig who imagined that simply everybody wanted him? A real sleaze who couldn’t attach anything to his brain without making it sexual? How many of you women have met an ass like Barack Obama?
Later, as two cafe waitresses and owner Brenda Wilson squeezed next to him for a photograph, Obama suddenly turned to one woman. “That’s my phone buzzing there,” he said. “I don’t want you to think I’m getting fresh or anything.”
Just so you know, they played this segment on CNN and The Prune Cafferty’s comment to this? Well he thought Obama was almost “Reaganesque” and he also thought, “That was funny”. I suppose I couldn’t expect much more from Cafferty. Probably 99% of the memories that live longest in his mind these days never really happened.
Cafferty, this man is a disgrace and so are you. The only difference between you two pigs is one pig regretfully has a good face for radio and the other has the audacity to run for President of the United States of America.
Tell me something women? Would you trust this man if you happened to be alone in a room with him?

I’m a woman and I think it’s pretty funny.
Now if his phone wasn’t buzzing …. that’s a whole different ballgame!
So to speak.
Go to his next rally. Maybe he will let you touch his cell phone.
Well, at least Senator McCain would never say anything so ofensive.
Well, Sen. McCain has said some pretty offensive things to his wife and senate colleagues that are actually worse than this. There’s a new book coming out about him and there have been excerpts in the news recently that are not very flattering towards Sen. McCain.
It’s a totally inappropriate comment to make to a woman. If he thought it was an issue, he could have stepped away without saying anything.
There seems to be a pattern of inappropriate comments lately. From the kiss comment to the “sweetie” and now this.
I believe that he thinks he’s charming the women into voting for him. But the issue is that if he said these things in an office setting he’d be at high risk for being called on a sexual harassment complaint.
What is this “kiss comment” you are referencing? I don’t believe I’ve heard of it. I would certainly like to know what was said.
BTW, what he said was patronizing, presumptuous and arrogant. I hate it when men do that kind of thing…it makes you feel like they only view you in a sexual light.
It’s not funny! Plain and simple thats treating women as shite and this is the third time I’ve heard HIS campaign has done this . I’ve worked with men in the shipyards and know whats sexist and whats not. He, Oboma, is a sexist! And I believe is a misogynous dumbass! I’m mad cause I fought the good fight for women in the 70’s in the most of male worlds, the submarine workers, a pipe fitter.
Vimes — I really admire you — and you are absolutely correct about the chauvinistic work environment of the shipyards.
I would never put up with an abusive husband and I certainly will never put up with an abusive, sexist democratic candidate.
With bush we went back in time — and now obama is demanding that we women go back in time.
My sister in law is all a twitter about the “fantastic” speech on race by obama. She didn’t see the racism by obama in the speech — and the sexism.
So if we are in a time machine — will be all be young again? What happens to the obama cult members — will they disappear?
Some of them already have. He ditched hundreds of elected delegates who busted their asses, even traveled to other states for him. To attend a convention is a reward and and honor for your work. So these Zoids learned Obama’s message early: “THANKS SUCKERS!”
I dont think it’s particularly funny and certainly innapropriate coming from a presidential candidate. It makes him sound like a frat boy and some woman would find it offensive.
Obama has repeatedly shown a lack of tact when dealing with women. I know most of the women that go to his events are supporters but that’s stepping over the line.
mlr701… you find it funny, that a man is a pig to women. I pity you in your lack of self respect. Isn’t really people like you who should be referred to as f***ng whores???
Thats the BUZZ…
or is it.HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM…
Okay, those of you who don’t find it offensive…imagine if Bush said it. This guy wants to be president and he’s making sex jokes to strangers? I suppose it would’ve been okay if he knew her…you know, like Clearance Thomas knew Anita Hill.
What a freakin’ creep. At least he didn’t offer to kiss her in exchange for her vote Me, I would have filed a complaint with the F-E-(fe) C (us)
Shit. Rolls. Down. Hill.
If the president of the united states can’t be respectful and not act like an adult, which of his followers will?
I say Obama is part and parcel to the F***ing Whore behavior. We respect what our leaders respect. And this man has no respect for women.
I guess I don’t see it as a sex joke. If anything, I see it as a failed attempt at being sophisticated and urbane. Now, if he’s said “do you like the vibrator in my pocket, honey?” it would be another story.
I am far more offended by his actions the other day calling those factory women “sweetie” and telling them they were beautiful. That story got dropped and I think it was really important to show his inappropriateness around women.
.
I didn’t see that. Can you give me a link please? These are all subtle things that whittle away at a woman’s feelings of equality. They add up to an attitude. Compacency to these things are the enemy. They are a sign of greater superior behaviors to come. The worst part is he does these things naturally.
http://thepage.time.com/obama-pool-report-from-allentown-pennsylvania/
I fumed about this for two days and didn’t see ANY coverage. Can you imagine what would happen in the media if Bill Clinton did the same thing?
Thanks Laurie!!!
Do you really want to bring up Bill Clinton, with his history, into a debate about sexism and the treatment of women in the workplace?
Really?
And what on earth does that have to do with Hillary? She’s the one running for President.
Absolutely, I’ll talk about Bill Clinton. The women in Clinton’s life have been elevated , his wife is running for the highest office in the land, Monica did the talk show circuit last year telling everyone how much the experience enriched her life, and Paula Jones has had surgery and posed in a magazine. I don’t see a trail of victims in the wake of Bill Clinton at all.
Don’t know about Lewinsky and Jones, but Bill Clinton does seem to touch women’s lives in positive ways, from his wife, to his daughter, to the first female secretary of state, to the GREAT Janet Reno, to providing better protections for our families, from health insurance to family leave, to increased police protections.
So, yeah, big Bill might have some dish with the ladies, but, you know, let’s take a look at the difference between Bill, and say, Obama when it comes to providing for the American family.
Women, and men, our FAMILIES, were better off under Bill, made more progress, despite the now common as cockroaches bloggerboyz, who were around then, too, bashing familes, women, and Bill.
So who is Obama running against, Bill, or Hill?
Could they let us know?
And who is Obama’s backdoor man?
Larry Sinclair?
Careful what you wish for, if I were Obama…
Bill Clinton’s running for President? I had no idea!
My portfolio REALLY misses him.
I agree; I don’t think the phone line is so bad. It is weird when your cell phone buzzes in your pocket, and I - generally very aggravated by Barry - don’t think the buzz means much. Now, “sweetie,” really does. I didn’t know he said it - thanks for the information. F
Obama’s pathetic. He just wants us to know he can get it up. What a clown! He is oh so not ready for the most powerful job on earth.
I believe we run the risk of becoming the very thing we despise about Obama supporters. Obama’s silly campaign stop, to me, is a non-issue, non-story. I don’t see any sexism hidden or otherwise. I don’t see this as a reflection of Obama’s narcissistic and sexist nature — there are PLENTY of actual stories to provide evidence of it, just not this one in my opinion. If we jump on everything he does with outrage, we are no better than the Clinton-haters who ripped apart her hospital story as one of her “lies.” We are supposed to be the reasonable ones, right? We want to present evidence, not project our opinion into his every action.
Let’s expose the real problematic issues with Obama — we know there are more than we can list — and persuade some of his supporters too blinded by media bias to realize he’s the wrong candidate. Let’s not get in the same mudpit as Kos and the rest of the blogger boyz who could find fault in anything Clinton does.
This is just my opinion. Perhaps I’m in the minority. ANd to answer your question, sure I’d trust him to be alone in the same room. He’s not a rapist, for God’s sake. But I do not trust him to govern this country.
“Let’s not get in the same mudpit as Kos and the rest of the blogger boyz who could find fault in anything Clinton does.”
Too late. I think No Quarter hit those lofty heights quite some time ago.
No, you’re definitely not in the minority.
Several times No Quarter has skated on the edge of living down to the stereotype of bloggers the wingers love to hold up: uninformed, shrill, defensive, and self-obsessed.
And the “three” of you sound like viral trolls.
Obama has taken money from Saddam’s former bagman.
Obama has initiated the conquer and divide techniques Rove is famous for, supposedly decried by democrats.
Obama practices a type of politics harmful to the United States, perhaps for reasons you’re not capable of understanding.
Obama has helped Rezko steal from poor African Americans, and Obama is filthy stinking corrupt.
Id you’ve been keeping yourself informed, you should know about Rezko. No way Obama associated with the IL combine, and remained clean. If you saw Rezko through the Levine tapes presented at trial, you would be appalled a future wannabee president would associate with a small town hood, a man directly connected to 650 million missing CPA dollars, out of Iraq, for which over 4000 Americans have died.
So you appear just appear ignorant and uninformed, now. It’s a WWW out there, you can only deny reality for so long until you look disingenuous, or slow.
Obama has first degree ties to terrorists, terrorist sympathizers, and black nationalists.
This is all OK, in your head?
Wow.
Really, now, do you read?
Try the Tribune’s gavel to gavel coverage.
Laurie, I agree with you. I’m for Clinton all the way, but the Obama hatin’ is getting a little wild on the pro-Hillary sites, not to mention downright silly. Let’s all just take a deep breath. We are at risk of becoming the ones we warned ourselves about!
You said the Obama hate is getting wild on Hillary’s blogs. Does that tell you something? If he gets the nomination he will be the most divisive nominee we have ever had. Only 62% of Democrats would vote for him. That is an ominous stat. He should have at least 90% of Democrats on his side. He has run a campaign based on Chauvanism and Racism and has brought new slogans into our culture. TYPICAL WHITE PERSON and GOD DAMN AMERICA have entered our vernacular because of Obama.
I wonder how old women who don’t see through this behavior are? If they fought the fight in corporate America, where little ‘remarks’ like this were subtle ways to remind you that you are something to be toyed with, including professionally. That’s all.
Well, I can answer you that I’m 44. My grandmother was a suffragette. My mother, who had me at age 41 when most women didn’t do such things, was an early feminist. I am extremely sensitive to sexist crap. And nine times out of ten I agree with your keen and brilliant observations. Just not this time.
What would your grandmother say?
Speaking for myself, my grandmother was your typical white person.
I’m actually affected by my grandmother’s Southern, bawdy, get-in-there-with-the-boys approach. During the Depression, my grandparents had not paid their gas bill and the gas company sent a man to their house to turn off the gas. My grandmother was nursing my aunt at the time and was propositioned by the gas man — play nice, and we’ll leave the gas on. As my mom rememembers it, my grandmother smiled, asked him inside into the kitchen… and then grabbed a butcher knife, held it to his crotch and told him if he liked his pecker so much, she’d serve it to him right then with onions and peppers.
Not sure what it has to do with our discussion here but thanks for letting me share a favorite story!
I’m dying here!
hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
You do make a good point about subtlety, though. Perhaps I’ve lowered my standards. NOt sure on this. Please keep up the amazing work you do. I offer my point only in the larger context of truly, madly, deeply wanting to prevent Obama from being the nominee. I am very worried about my party and even more so about our country. I want to include as many people as possible in the net here and don’t want to turn anyone off by projecting too much. That’s my reasoning, anyway.
For a crash course in sexism, watch the brilliant AMC series, “Mad Men.” It’s on DVD. Great dramatic series, and it illustrates the sexism of the 1950s and 1960s perfectly. It was permissible for men to talk like that all the time — these days, in MOST workplaces, men know better. Barack doesn’t.
That was a great series. I concentrated more on the alcohol abuse than the sexism, but it was a great look back into America of yesteryear.
Oh yes. And it was how most adults I knew drank around that time. And then there was the smoking, also depicted in the show.
Something else: Work was done at a lot more leisurely pace than these days. Long conversations, long lunches, etc.
Really looking forward to its return this summer / Season 2.
(It’s amazing that HBO passed on the series. AMC was smart to pick it up.)
He’s just calling attention to his buzzing member right? We KNOW it is your stupid cell phone you nitwit! You don’t have to point it out boy!
I had a boyfriend like that once. He had a habit of hanging me upside down out of windows. Yeah, he was a former football player. What an abusive asshole.
Always calling attention to themselves somehow these attention hogs.
You don’t have to point it out boy!
Yes, calling Senator Obama “boy” demonstrates the high standards we have come to expect here.
We hope to aspire to higher standards where we get to call Michelle Obama a Fucking Whore. That should be all right. Right?
Apparently calling “Michelle Obama a Fucking Whore” is the level of debate you have chosen.
No, I just simply wish to aspire to a higher level like Obama supporters.
And see? I TOLD you that you weren’t “banned”!
Well over the last couple of months here we’ve reached as high as calling Barack Obama a sexist pig, a narcissistic misogynist, “A real sleaze who couldn’t attach anything to his brain without making it sexual?”, a wife beater, a reverse racist, a muslim manchurian candidate, a terrorist appeaser, an America hater, a corrupt thug, a liar, a cheat and the most dangerous man in America…thats just off the top of my head.
I’d say calling Michelle Obama a “fucking whore” is right around the corner if not currently par for course.
Hey we aspire to be like Obama supporters! Gee, I didn’t KNOW about the wife beating!
I’m glad to see your over education has given you the keen insight those Obama supporters are clearly lacking Uppity.
Operation Chaos is big fun for people who love unPC trash talk. Ain’t it the truth Uppity?
Yeah, you mean like Randi Rhodes?
Operation Chaos is interesting. It will be more fun to watch them all vote Republican in the fall so that Barry can get his ass kicked all the way to Kahlidi’s house in Pakistan.
It will be more fun to watch them all vote Republican in the fall so that Barry can get his ass kicked
Interesting? Yes it’s interesting that your idea of fun results in another Republican in the White House.
No Muppity — I think that Obama’s idea of fun.
You’re not far off, Douglas. Somebody yesterday on one of the Hillary-safe blogs actually trotted out the canard about Obama murdering the gay choirmaster at TUCC! The commenter was politely shot down for that, but still. Why aren’t we focusing on our own fine candidate instead of falling over the cliff of paranoia and delusion? Hillary Clinton deserves better supporters than some of us have been over the past few days. Guess the waiting for Pennsylvania wears on the nerves . . .
if it walks like a duck….
I think it goes right along with his sexism and objectifying women. He called women working in a factory, “sweetie” and practically patted them on the heads.
If the phone buzz was the only incident, I might disregard it, but when someone compulsively makes things sexual, it just gets annoying and it also reveals something about their character or lack of.
If a teacher, cop, politician, was taking a picture with one of my daughters (in their 20’s) and said something like this, I’d find it offensive. It’s kind of slimy.
I agree–it’s the history of behavior that makes me interpret this as offensive. If this was just a one-off, I think I’d be with others, but it’s just starting to stack up. And it reminds me of other, creepy things, like that Michelle couldn’t take a job until Obama met her boss and gave his approval.
(and is anyone else wondering why he carries a cell phone? He travels with a group of people. One of his assistants should be in charge of his phone so that it doesn’t ring and distract him from potential voters)
Hold the phone (ahem), Kathy - WHAT abt Obama having to meet Michelle’s boss first??? Are you freakin’ kidding me?? I sure haven’t heard THAT one!!!
And yes, it is a pattern with him, Uppity, one he has demonstrated on the national stage just abt every time he debates with Clinton. Invariably, he gets in some sexist dig, and he has continued that all along (frankly, I think even his comment abt how he’ll get Clinton’s voters was more of his sexist arrogance).
I did hear abt that whole “sweetie” thing - it came up shortly after he offered to give a Clinton supporter a kiss if she’d vote for him. Oh sure - the media would be just FINE if BILL had said something like that - NOT!!!
Oh yes Amy I forgot about The Kiss. There’s just that whole “weaker sex” subjugation thing going on with this guy.
“you’re likable enough Hillary”
“It’s “silly” season”
The holding of the chair crap.
The guy is a master of the suble submissive thing. Reminds me of corporate America before people started suing these a holes. Then things got better.
Younger women would fall for that, though, not recognizing that all the subtle things add up. He can make them swoon. The Obama Girl didn’t come into existence for nothing.
You left out “she “periodically” when she gets down…”
and the
“claws come out”
Yes, the Michelle thing. And this was BEFORE they were married. Although that would have been more than enough of a clue to me that I shouldn’t go ahead and marry this guy. Can you imagine?
Seriously?? Wow - I scarecely even know what to say to that!!
And Uppity, I think you are so right that younger women just don’t see this. I can most definitely get on my soapbox abt how hard we worked to END this kind of BS, and younger women go around with things like “Hot Stuff” across the butt of their shorts, play the weaker sex card, and generally turn back the clock - generalization, but for the sake of limited space…
And yes, of course, there are many who DON’T act like this, but WAY too many who do.
And while I’m at it - I DESPISE when watching women’s sports teams to have the &$)**))@^ announcers saying things like, “It’s man on man coverage” or “She has a man on” when there are NO MEN ON THE FIELD OF PLAY!!!!!
All of that is to say, LANGUAGE shapes our reality, and when young women hear this kind of crapola from Barack, someone to whom they look up, they are MUCH more likely to accept that same kind of sexism in their personal lives - IMHO.
Thanks for saying it better than I did. I appreciate it. I just recognize things he does and says and when I put them all together….
I think this reflects a pattern in Obama’s behavior, but it is by no means to worst thing he’s done. So, we shouldn’t fixate on it. Like someone else said, his comments to the factory workers were more offensive.
They are all part of a pattern, yes?
I do wish I had a link to the factory incident.
Anybody?
I’m agreeing with you, Uppity, I just can’t seem to formulate any thoughts right now, LOL.
But your post triggers several annoying memories, so yes, I believe you are making a valid point.
“It may be April Fools Day, but Sen. Barack Obama was acting like it was
Valentine’s Day. He was in full charm mode ………”
http://thepage.time.com/obama-pool-report-from-allentown-pennsylvania/
Replace the waitress in the story with the Queen of England or the wife of one of America’s enemies!
Jayyyyyyyyyyysussssssss.
It is pretty obvious why Obama is doing this cell phone sexual innuendo and the previous do I have to kiss you comments: his campaign believes that women — who would most likely support Senator Clinton — will possibly vote for Obama because he is sexy. Just look at the first comment Barbara Walters and the ladies on “The View” said to Obama: “You’re sexy.”
It is a cheap ploy to gain female voters in Obama’s campaign tactics via “being cool,” and showing his smooth and sexy side. It plays directly against the numerous negative comments about Senator Clinton’s physique that some in the MSM like to joke around.
To be honest, people should be calling foul with Axelrod and the Obama campaign, because Obama is just following their instruction.
Better yet, people should be asking Michelle Obama how she feels having Obama using his sex and his “manliness” to garner a few more votes! Unfortunately, Michelle will probably rationalize it as a means to an end, i.e winning the race for the nomination.
Take about having values…not!
He really does channel an outdated fifties Rat Pack kind of “manliness” that gives me the creeps.
He seems very childish to me. Too young and silly-minded. He’s also a big copy-cat. Why can’t he do anything ORIGINAL! HUH?
i LOVED the rat pack! 40 years ago. grow up, obama.
Steven B I think you have a very good point there; it makes sense, you are right.
If a colleague of mine did that–even at a “social event” — it’d be pretty badly received.
She probably doesn’t care long as she can get her ass into that white house.
http://www.womenforbarackobama.com/Obama_s_Record.html
Do you see the subtle differance there? It’s “Women for Obama”. Generally a politician would say “W is for Women” or “John Kerry for Women”. Or “Clinton, a champion for women.”
I don’t want Women for Obama, I want to see Obama for Women. There’s a big difference.
It is a big difference.
But I’d suggest the reason the women at the grassroots organisation, Women for Obama, are you know…for Obama, is because of the 3 pages of legislation and policy he has passed FOR WOMEN. Possibly a bigger deal than grammatical semantics.
Just a thought.
When Obama denounces Randi Rhodes for calling Clinton and Ferraro whores, we’ll talk about Obama and women’s issues.
When Obama acknowledges the sexism in the media and stands up for Democratic women, I’ll consider Obama’s committment to women.
Hahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa
You guys come out of the woodwork.
Obama didn’t pass any bills FOR women — because all the bills he is given credit for were written by OTHER people.
Just more lies, on top of lies.
Who is the real Obama — he is not FOR women.
He is FOR himself and only himself.
He is a narcissist personality type.
Oh yeah, we women were just doing really poorly till Obama came along to “fix” things for us. But good.
The only thing I want him to do “for” me is get lost.
Here, here! Well damn put!
Thanks for summing it up so well.
And your point is…?
Douglas,
Spare us the web link, please.
THAT! was not funny.
If he said that in any office, he will break the sexual harassment code.
Yeah, Obama is technically “on the job”. I behave differently at work than with friends.
[…] like the blog NoQuarter. The people there are not afraid to call out bullshit and even more rare, it’s the blog of a […]
Hopefully, Michelle got wind of it and soundly kicked his scraggly ass that night. (ahhh, what a good visual).
Yeah, and for the record, I do agree this is a wee bit over the top and not offensive (As a woman speaking). It’s small potatoes, actually. We can nail skinny ninny on plenty of other hardcore stuff , but I like this merry-go-round of vetting and exposure of the many facets of this mysterious man’s slimy character. Next up….
There is a certain “presence” one expects of one’s president. Maybe it is a certain amount of refinement or discretion. Or in the very least it is carefulness. His comment is just inappropriate. I can’t imagine that anyone wondered for a moment about the vibrating telephone. Fortunately, as Senator Obama matures, he will realize that you don’t necessarily need to articulate all of the ridiculous thoughts that come to your mind. Self editing is a gift. We expect that someone who can parse — three different positions in 8 hours on the human rights issue in Tibet for the Chinese government — might appreciate the benefit of remaining silent. Each time Senator Obama opens his mouth, he confirms the poor opinion so many of us already have of him.
It may be funny and perfectly acceptable if he was in a different setting hanging out with a few friends, but in public he is the candidate that is running for President so calling women sweetie, telling them do you want me to give you a kiss, or to allude to the buzzing in his pants or jacket where ever should be a no no.
That kind of talk is just not presidential and not accepted from any nominee that is under the public glare, if Obama is going to continue in that fashion it will degrade the office that he is trying to hold and sure will not win favor with some, yes we all want our president to be the cool guys but something are just not allowed when you trying to attain that position.
