This is Hillary’s latest Television Ad. It starts playing in Pennsylvania today. After enjoying it take a look below as the facts are examined. And revel as the truth is revealed. It is Senator Obama who has been in the pocket of the oil companies since this whole mess began. And despite what he says, he still is.
Not only did ole Mr. Hope get caught with his pants down. They are on fire too.
Announcer: You’ve seen the ad.
Barack Obama: “I don’t take money from oil companies.”
Announcer: No candidate does. It’s been against the law for 100 years.
Corporations have been prohibited from contributing directly to federal candidates since the Tillman Act became law in 1907. [Factcheck.org, 3/31/08]
But Barack Obama accepted two hundred thousand dollars from executives and employees of oil companies.
Obama has, however, accepted more than $213,000 in contributions from individuals who work for, or whose spouses work for, companies in the oil and gas industry, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
Every gallon of gas takes over three bucks from your pocket, but Obama voted for the Bush-Cheney energy bill that put six billion dollars in the pocket of big oil.
And how’s this for an ironic title?: A bill to ensure jobs for our future with secure, affordable, and reliable energy. It sure doesn’t seem today that the bill did what it claimed it would. But you knew that. Only Obama “hopes” that you will forget.

I am getting so scared about this election…if HRC is not the nominee, I don’t see how we can beat McCain.
The press is pretending that Obama’s excuse for not getting votes in PA was some amazing truth about how PA voters are bitter about economics. They’re doing the same thing they did with The Speech - pretending that he is a deep thinker about racial relations in the US, when the only reason he gave the speech was to preserve his own electoral future.
We have serious problems in this country, and we need a serious person to fix them. Neither McCain nor Obama have the guts or the know-how to take on the problems in the economy, the huge deficit, the withdrawal from Iraq, the restoration of our Constitution, and so on.
These are the issues that are important to me, and to me, only HRC can move our country in the right direction. The next four years are going to be very difficult no matter who’s in charge, but they are going to be horrible if we put Obama or McCain in. Obama will be floundering without a clue, and McCain can’t tell Sunni from Shi’a and wants to bomb Iran.
My husband and I are seriously thinking of moving to Canada.

In times of economic downturns, this is bad timing to be critical of Big Oil. For it’s the heartland that depends on it for jobs. From the oil riggers to truckers — those very salt-of-the-Earth folks Obama dissed.
And we also learned that we didn’t go into Iraq for the oil (because we would’ve gotten it out by now, especially under these extreme speculative oil prices).
Dems, there are some issues that you guys espouse that hits the very people you’re suppose to represent (Big Oil isn’t just Exxon and Shell, but everyday Joe Sixpack who’s trying to raise a family, living on a platform miles at sea; to hauling that gas that, yes is pricey for everyone, but is keeping food on his table. Ummm…. so the candidates should turn their backs on the fact that the big oil companies are literally making at least 9 BILLION dollars in PROFIT each QUARTER for the past few years? And the obscene prices are not related at all to increased production costs (otherwise the oil companies would not be making these record profits, they’d be holding their own).
I’m afraid I disagree with you. Someone needs to call them out — because our economy has been destroyed by the energy prices, and the fact we’ve had two oil industry toads running the White House.
Frankly, I think that a candidate needs to address the BIG issue in the oil price crisis which is the oil traders and trading. Not sure if folks realize it, but many big corporations (everything from Wall Street to insurance companies) have been buying oil storage facilities and playing the commodities market with oil they’ve been storing. About two years ago, corps and investors what would have normally put money in places that would back mortgages and such, are now playing the oil game. That needs to be addressed, as well.
I applaud the talk of clean energy jobs and tax breaks, but “Joe Sixpack” as you call them, needs to know what’s going to bring the prices down NOW. McCain’s people already jumped on that premise by proposing a ‘gas tax holiday’ (of course totally abdicating any scrutiny of the oil industry)
Being a Democrat means pushing those industries that are hurting the families who are trying to do their job and feed their family. How in the world could that be “off message”? And frankly, the Hillary ad talks about Obama’s lies…. and is hardly an indictment of the oil industry.
That vote for the Bush-Cheney energy bill should have been something Hillary should have highlighted sooner. I have been saying this for months. And I am glad she finally call him on “I don’t money from oil companies” because it is illegal. I didn’t realize that it has been so for a 100 years. Now I would like to see her call Obama on “I don’t take money from lobbyists.” By my count, Obama has bundlers at 18 different law firms that employ registered lobbyists. He circumvents the truth but taking money only from those lawyers that are not registered lobbyists ignoring the fact that law firms are partnerships were compensation is pooled so the work of one attorney benefits the others. I’d start by pointing out that Michelle Obama’s former firm Sidley-Austin LLP is a registered lobbyist and that Obama has at least three bundlers there that have raised over $300,000 for him.
