The lady has class and makes me chuckle
By Linc on April 22, 2008 at 1:05 PM in Barack Obama, Chelsea Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, MSNBC, Obamedia, Pennsylvania
Two things stuck out in my mind last night as Hillary Clinton made her way from Larry King to Keith to the Obliterator (OK, so I don’t watch much WWE and I made that name up, so sue me).
Firstly, Hillary Clinton is one classy lady. It is amazing to see a woman and a mother who has put up with so much and taken so much flak, stand up so straight and proud for the country she loves. It is amazing to see her, with dignity and grace, go on Keith Olbermann’s Count-the-ways-I-love-Obama-down and face him and his dishonest questioning. And with a bit of humor! [The video of the interview is at the end of the story.]
Did anyone notice Keith’s convenient paraphrasing?
Like when he forgot to mention the second half of Obama’s quote — the bit where he destroyed the DNC’s campaign of the last two months by saying McCain would be a better President than Bush? Well, I sure as hell didn’t miss it and neither did Hillary.
But, unlike me, who would have directly called b.s. on loverboy Olbermann, Hillary did something better: she refuted Olbermann’s assumptions and then did what needed to be done — she cast McCain as not just the same as Bush, but worse. And I paraphase:
In fact [McCain's] statement about being willing to leave troops in Iraq for up to 100 years is something that I absolutely reject, that would be worse than President Bush…
Thank you Hillary, for knowing how to take the fight to ‘em! And with such poise. No one does it better.
Secondly, I caught a video today that I want to share. It’s Chelsea, you know, that beautiful, articulate, intelligent woman who was raised by Hillary Clinton.
I think children speak volumes about the character of the person who raised them, but that’s just me — I am just a hick with guns from Montana — a bit old-fashioned, if you will. Here is the vid of Chelsea, it makes me even more proud to be a Hillary supporter:
Happy PA primary, folks! Give all you can to our girl. Let her know we are proud of her and we appreciate all she has, is, and will do for this country.
The sense of humor bit? When Hillary said this to Olbermann:
…but I do believe in redemption Keith… I think it’s possible for anyone to see the error of their ways… …I am bringing people together as we speak…
Well, I still haven’t stopped chuckling.
_______________
Here’s the video of last night’s interview by Olbermann:

Chelsea!
Isn’t that neat. I had no idea she was so bright and articulate until this campaign. Kind of assumed she had to be, given her parents. But she is really having a great effect on this campaign.
If you click on the tag for Chelsea Clinton, you’ll see this story I did a while ago.
“Imagine If This Were Your Daughter.”
It’s not just a rant against how she was treated by some thugs on the campaign trail … it also quotes a terrific NYTimes article about how smart she is, and how much she knows. She’s a wonk just like her mom.
That was the BEST last line!!
I hope Oldbirdman took particular note!
His sanctimonious attacks towards Hillary in past days has been staggering!
Hey, I’m an Obama supporter, and I like Hillary Clinton. I just can’t vote for her in the primary. But you bet if she was the nominee in November, I would vote for her in a heartbeat.
Can anyone else here make the same claim for Obama? As Democrats, can’t we unite under the same progressive banner against a neoconservative like John McCain?
I’m an independent voter who almost always votes Democratic, but no, I can’t.
hey me too, an indie, have never voted for a repub, probably never will, but I won’t vote for BO. I will vote downticket races though. He lost me when he played the race card against the Clintons in SC and he won’t get me back.
No.
nope
I would post this to Jeff, but feel he gets paid by the number of direct hit responses to his posts!
Jeff, good conscience and meaningful values requires me to say “NO” and I have no problem in saying so, and I will do all I can to convince others of the same!
“I would post this to Jeff, but feel he gets paid by the number of direct hit responses to his posts!”
Wouldn’t that be nice!
No, “Jeff” only gets paid ($3) by the hour.
Oh, I will vote for the nominee- unfortunately, I think only one candidate can win… guess whou
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON !!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish you would take that question over to HuffPo and DailyObama et al. My sense is that most Obama supporters don’t feel like you do.
Part of the problem is that Obama and his campaign and his supporters have behaved in such vile ways. It’s kind of like asking a battered woman of she’ll take back her batterer.
I like your reply … I will have to use that one in future “discussions”.
My honest answer is no, he lost me when he called Bill Clinton a racist. That was it. End of discussion. I wasn’t too keen on the way Gerri Ferraro was treated, but Bill Clinton? Way out of line. You don’t piss on the legacy of the Bill Clinton and tell us it’s just raining a little.
Go Hillary! We need you so that Democrats can continue to vote for a Democratic candidate!
“My honest answer is no, he lost me when he called Bill Clinton a racist.”
That never happened.
have it your way. I’m not going to argue with you. We know what Bill said. We know what he meant. For the campaign to spin it to turn out the AA vote in SC was smart for the short term but fool hardy long term.
Bill Clinton doesn’t have to defend his record to Barry Obama.
“have it your way. I’m not going to argue with you. We know what Bill said. We know what he meant. For the campaign to spin it to turn out the AA vote in SC was smart for the short term but fool hardy long term. “
See, and already you’ve backtracked. There is a world of difference between “Barack Obama called Bill Clinton a racist”, and “the Obama campaign was critical of Clinton’s remarks about Jesse Jackson also winning S.C.”.
There is a serious extrapolation problem among many of the posters here.
No, baby ….
Only to you.
It never ceases to amaze me how little BOBO has actually done for African Americans … he let tenants freeze in slums in Chicago. He doesn’t show up for Tavis’ meeting, he doesn’t show at the official MLK observance … he’s a regular AA no show.
And what about Ferarro? She said exactly what he has up on his own website. Not one word is different. He linked her in a sentence with a hate monger.
has the Stalinist rewriting of history already started?
Barack Obama never said that in public, but his campaign and his surrogates said it with Obama’s blessings. It’s not like you can take the faux outrage any other way (unless we are supposed to think that being compared to Jesse Jackson is a bad thing).
YES ,,OBAMA NEVER SAID THAT
BUT HE ALSO DID NOT STOP HIS PEOPLE FROM SAYING THAT ,,HE DID NOT SAY ,,,LETS TALK ABOUT ISSUES ,,,NOT RACE ,,,BUT NO ,,HE DID NOT ,,HE ENJOYED THE BLACK VOTE
And then there is the little detail involving Obama’s campaign strategy memo that advanced the strategy of looking for some statement of Bill or Hillary that could be twisted into allegations of racism, and peel off African-American support, acknowledging that this would be the only way that Senator Obama could take the “AA” vote.
It never happens. He has his surrogates do the Dirty for him.
I notice that it’s up for 28%. And you haven’t had Jeff tell you that you are not a Democrat yet.
ARG has it has high as 32 percent. I don’t honestly think he’s electable.
“I notice that it’s up for 28%. And you haven’t had Jeff tell you that you are not a Democrat yet.”
It’s pretty easy to tell. A Democrat actually votes for Democrats.
Which is why we’re NOT voting for Obama. See how that works?
“Which is why we’re NOT voting for Obama. See how that works?”
Right–you’re Republicans, who will be voting for McCain.
Aw, poor “Jeff,” trying to salvage the votes if his wittle Obambi is the nominee.
Jeff tells us “A Democrat votes for a Democrat.”
He’s too cowardly to say that to any Obama supporters who refuse to vote for Clinton under any circumstances.
Nor does he have the courage to admit that any candidate who disses Clinton but praises Reagan and Bush I is probably not a true Democrat anyway.
Jeez, the Obamanauts are as simple-minded as the Bush wingnuts.
Bill Clinon has been dissed continually by Obama surrogates, bloggers,& campaigners to a point where it is obvious they wish to undermine his legacy as it plays into their scheme of capturing super delegates and insuring the party’s total takeover by Deaniacs and leftist netroot extremists.
The party is being sold to black voters pure and simple, and in order to forget what Clinton has accomplished with regard to black advancement and support on all levels, the best way Obama can nullify Clinton is to: call him a racist. to insist that he was not a good president and accomplished little.
These people are ruthless, they are creeps, and they will ruin the party.
Trashing the Clinton’s seems to be the way Obama and Axelrod have chosen as his path to the presidency as it allows them to minimize what Clinton has and does that is positive.
In demonizing Bill they hope to remove any doubts and second thoughts Clinton supporters will have going into the general.
What a bunch of losers. I have heard black surrogates on TV trashing Clinton as an irrelevant and racist person, and an unimportant president.
Their hatred is palpable. And this kind of desperate and irresponsible talk pulls racism up a notch every time one of these [usually black] surrogates gets on TV.
This is taking black guilt about their own white racist behavior into the conversation, as they surely have shown that they hate “typical” whites.
Bill Clinton will remain an important leader and will transcend this kind
of racist bigotry and trashtalk. It will be seen as the opportunistic cannabilism Obama needs in order to appear the “true transformer” of the Democratic Party.
No one admires this kind of behavior.
Bravo and well said, norrismorris!
REAL Democrats understand what Obama has done, and why he did it, and why he was wrong to do so.
Thank you.
One of the most fascinating parts of a new poll today on Pennsylvanian Democrats was that 32% of them say that they could NOT vote for Obama.
First, let me say that your comment is exceptional in our experience: Usually, we are attacked for not supporting Obama. But your comment is respectful and dignified, and I’m grateful.
But we are all very, very worried about Obama — that not only are his qualifications rather scant but also that he provides such easy fodder for the Republicans in a general election. McCain would be able to devastate him on national security issues alone. Not good.
I think it is important that we all keep electability in mind as a motivating force in our support for candidates. We need to be realistic.
“First, let me say that your comment is exceptional in our experience: Usually, we are attacked for not supporting Obama. But your comment is respectful and dignified, and I’m grateful.”
I appreciate your restrained, thoughtful, complimentary response, Susan. As always.
“I think it is important that we all keep electability in mind as a motivating force in our support for candidates. We need to be realistic.”
There are certainly reasons to be nervous for either candidate going up against McCain. I think that Hillary would be very vulnerable against him b/c of the sniper story. I think Obama is vulnerable against him for the reasons stated. That said, I just prefer his freshness over her experience. In the general, I will be voting for the Democrat, regardless of who it is.
That said, Susan’s response is a far cry from saying “I will never vote for Obama”, and I appreciate that.
Jeff:
McCain has a problem of his own in making correct perceptions and analysis of danger, thinking that walking through a marketplace in Iraq with a contingent of special forces, full body armor, Apache gunships criss-crossing the sky overhead, is like a walk in the park on a sunny afternoon. It would be very dangerous for McCain to think that he could effectively use the “Bosnia” issue, when he can’t even distinguish between the combatants in Iraq.
“It would be very dangerous for McCain to think that he could effectively use the “Bosnia” issue, when he can’t even distinguish between the combatants in Iraq.”
That’s wishful thinking. A decorated war hero can easily make hay of against a candidate who fabricated a story about being shot at it in a combat zone. I’m not saying it’s fair, or that the Shiite/Sunni issue isn’t strong against McCain. I’m simply disagreeing that it will at all be “dangerous for McCain to use the sniper story.
So just imagine what he can do with a guy who associates with a group of people who brought terror right here to the streets of America?
Karl Rove thought that the fun was over! And then came Barack H. Obama — since you get irritated and pissy, I just used his middle initial. I don’t expect any thanks for my trouble
“So just imagine what he can do with a guy who associates with a group of people who brought terror right here to the streets of America?”
Right, and Bill Clinton pardoned two of those people. GOP wouldn’t dare touch that.
I’m not sure why Uppity likes you.
I find your intentional stupidity annoying.
President Clinton commuted the sentences of two people who had served their time — almost all of it. Senator Clinton was not part of the decision making process.
If you can find any links or information that they have socialized together or that the Weather Underground has made a donation to her campaign, please enlighten me.
Bill Ayers’ actions resulted in the deaths of three people. He and his wife would have been tried for their crimes if the FBI hadn’t screwed up.
Bill Ayers is totally unrepentent. Actually, he regrets not having done MORE, unlike those whose sentences were commuted.
These individuals’ sentences were commuted.
You are just also going to have to appreciate that I will never vote for him–without daring to tell me I am not a Democrat.
“You are just also going to have to appreciate that I will never vote for him–without daring to tell me I am not a Democrat.”
Just as you do, I will “dare” to conjecture whatever makes sense to me. A person who refuses to vote for the most progressive Democratic candidate in a generation isn’t, to my mind, a Democrat. I’m speaking of course of how people choose to vote in the general election.
In what sense is Obama progressive, or more progressive than Clinton? I’ve not seen one policy proposal that is not a warmed over Edwards or Clinton one–sometimes in weakened form.
Baby-O has proven in this camaign that he cares not one wit for the democratic party…He’s overated and underqualified….One year in the US senate shows me nothin….Indonesia residency absorbing foreign policy at the age of 6 shows me nothin….Awkwardly pretendin you have street cred with hip hop lingo/code shows me nothin…Every time I get a mental picture of bab-O surrounded by world leaders I can’t decide whether to laugh or throw up…..He is not POTUS material….
If he was not actively trying to disenfranchise Florida and Michigan to “win” the primary I might be able to. But that is a deal-breaker for me.
Sorry
If you love Hillary you should vote for her. I will write her nam ein if she is not the party nominee.
I am an Indie that always votes Democratic, so I will NEVER vote McCain. He likes to use the “c” word a little too much besides other things.
I just can’t bring myself to vote Obama….I don’t trust him.
That writein idea seems to be catching on, just in case.
no, sorry i can’t. we thank for being open minded. i was telling someone at lunch today that if obama had been half of what he projected i would be happy to vote for him. but his associations and ugly attitude in this campaign leaves me saying heck no i won’t.
Definitely not.
NO I CAN,T ,,,SORRY DUDE
AND THATS BECAUSE OBAMA SAID***8HE CAN GET HILLARY SUPPORTERS BUT HILLARY WILL NOT GET HIS SUPPORTERS****
SO HILLARY IS VERY NICE BUT WE ARE BITTER TYPICAL WHITE PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM
AND YOU KEEP ON POSTING SAME LINE EVERYDAY ,,,EVERYDAY ,,EVERYDAY ,,,
NO LUCK DUDE
A few months back, I would have easily said yes. Now I can say, only because I distrust John McCain even more, and I’ll have to hold my nose while doing it.
I believe he’ll sell out Dems on reproductive choice and gay rights, and can’t be relied on to pick judges who will support those ideas, given what a swell, smart guy he thought Roberts was. I doubt he knows more about the economy than W - though like W he knows how to advance his own interest, in W’s case thru Poppy’s friends, in Obama’s his Chicago cronies.
So it comes down to figuring he’s less likely than crazy John McCain to charge us into still more war. Pretty sad when that’s what it comes down to.
Sorry Jeff. I can’t support Obama. He is the worst thing to happen to this country after GW.
No Jeff
We cannot unite for several reasons.
First and most important to me is Character. Without that a discussion of POLICY is a moot point because it has no firm foundation or base.
Aristotle (384–322 BC) believed that character helped explain a person’s past actions and could also predict future behaviour. Character helps identify who someone really is on the inside. Character is the yardstick by which people can identify whether someone is trustworthy or just a Charlatan.
In these attributes Obama is sorely lacking.
He is first and foremost a serial and pathologigical liar. Here is a short list of some of his lies:
Whoops here is the list:
http://www.stop-obama.org/?page_id=24
How can you trust or rely on anyone who lies constantly, does not accept responsibility for his past actions or associations.
Further as far a spolicy goes - his web changes constantly as he copies from either Hillary or John Edwards.
Obama is the worst Charlatan since Huey Long - all blah blah blah - no substance or deeds to back him up.
Then there is his blatant racism and mysogyny - and the list just goes on, and on, and on.
Yes, I will.
This was just downright perfect. Just one more reason Hillary is Miles ahead in ability to think on her feet than Mr. Ahhhhhhhh Ummmmmmm.
***Wack on the back***
spit it out would you!
From FOX:
WASHINGTON — One of President Nixon’s daughters, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, apparently supports a Democrat in this year’s presidential contest — Barack Obama.
Eisenhower has contributed the maximum amount allowed during the primary season to Obama’s campaign: $2,300. Federal Election Commission records show she gave Obama’s campaign $1,000 on Feb. 4, another $1,000 on Feb. 18 and $300 on March 5.
One of her father’s staunchest defenders during the Watergate scandal, she married the grandson of another Republican president, David Eisenhower, just before her father took office.
Since her father’s resignation, she has written several books and is now co-chair of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Birthplace Foundation.
So Julie Eisenhower is smart enough to see that by giving money to Barack Obama helps the Republicans in November … Her father would be proud.
he sure would. i’m sure he’s laughing up at us.
Another one of the “common folks” scrimping on lunch for Obama. Brings tears to my eyes… and such Hope™.
rorflmao
Hope™.
OOoooooooo I HAVE to use this.
Hmmm…..Tricky Dick…missing momens on tape….Baby-O…missing sate senate papers…..Things that make you go Hmmmm………
“So Julie Eisenhower is smart enough to see that by giving money to Barack Obama helps the Republicans in November … Her father would be proud.”
Please explain how having a high-profile Republican legacy donating money and support to Barack Obama, instead of the GOP standard-bearer John McCain, “helps the Republicans in November”.
You’ve missed the point completely.
She knows Obama would be easier for McCain to beat– that’s why she donated to his cmpaign.
If you think that Julie Eisenhower is actually going to vote for Barack Obama in the general election, let me tell you that your brain has been totally eaten away by whatever it is that the obamazoids are feeding you. She is her father’s daughter. She is no more going to support a Democrat that she is going to endorse Hamas. She’ll leave that to Carter.
“If you think that Julie Eisenhower is actually going to vote for Barack Obama in the general election, let me tell you that your brain has been totally eaten away by whatever it is that the obamazoids are feeding you. She is her father’s daughter. She is no more going to support a Democrat that she is going to endorse Hamas. She’ll leave that to Carter.”
You’re misreading history. Eisenhower was, by today’s standards, a moderate Democrat. He certainly wouldn’t fit in today’s GOP. Obama is a natural fit for Julie Eisenhower.
I have a very good friend who went to school with Julie. I just got an email assuring me that just like lots of people give money to, say, Nader, Julie is definitely NOT voting for a Democrat. Sorry to burst your unity pony pinata.
“I have a very good friend who went to school with Julie. I just got an email assuring me that just like lots of people give money to, say, Nader, Julie is definitely NOT voting for a Democrat. Sorry to burst your unity pony pinata.”
Forgive me for not taking this statement as evidence of anything. However, Julie’s donations to and support of Obama, certainly are.
I am not at liberty to share my friend’s email with you. And. He worked in the White House for Dick.
“I am not at liberty to share my friend’s email with you. And. He worked in the White House for Dick.”
Of course. And people are free to say whatever they like on the internet. That’s the beauty of it, isn’t it?
Julie just married into the Eisenhower name, but she was born and bred a Nixon (she really has her dad’s nose), and Nixon was no moderate Democrat.
no way would julie vote for barrack. she has a great deal of regard for her father’s memory. naw!
Her husband was going to run against Senator Clinton in 2006. And, now she is supporting a Dem. Something does not sit right with me and this is old news. It was in the WAPO in February. What happend? Did BO send out another press release?
it wasn’t julie but tricia’s husband who was going to run i think.
Sorry, my bad, I was confusing Julie with Tricia.
Something does not sit right with me and this is old news. It was in the WAPO in February. What happend? Did BO send out another press release?
I think both McCain and Obama have the impimatur of the monied elite and the right wing. That is why Julie might be behind Obama. That way there are two right wing horses in the race. Tails I win, heads you lose. Obama ain’t no liberal.
The point is to put money in BO’s coffers so that he can ‘win’ the Dem nomination. Thereby delivering a fatally flawed and weak Dem nominee to be led to the slaughter in November.
Its pretty transparent, actually.
“Its pretty transparent, actually.”
It is, but not in the way you think.
I’m telling you it’s McGovern all over again.
I voted for Hillary in the primary and I will vote for her in the GE. I will vote for the democratic candidate.
I am really tired of hearing Obama and his hope, he will bring a new vision to DC. We heard that before with Reagan and Bush and look what it got us. That Bush vision has oil at $119.69 at this very moment and the market is down 135 points. And a war that won’t end. How’s that hope working out for everyone?
Yes I will vote for Obama in November. I could never vote Republican for any reason. EVER.
“Yes I will vote for Obama in November. I could never vote Republican for any reason. EVER.”
Thanks Jennifer!
She’s one of yours.
Nice try, though.
I AGREE
MAY BE ITS JEFF HIMSELF ,,,,,CHANGING NAMES AND MAKING IT SOUND LIKE ,,,CHANGE ,,HOPE ,,,,
Nope, Jeff stays Jeff.
Yeah Oh Look. A new member. lol.
It’t the Change-y Hope-y thang
I’m with you … Jeff and Jennifer have never been seen together. And Jennifer has suddenly gone quite …. silent!
Oh, come on, give me a break–I’m just Jeff.
Just yankin’ your chain, Jeff.
double pay checks would be nice though, eh?
“double pay checks would be nice though, eh?”
Getting paid to do this would be quite a boon. Getting paid double to do this? Damn.
I always here about “paid” posters. I can’t imagine someone could take a trip around the world doing that though. I mean how do they get paid? By the word? By the insult? Is there like a rating system? What?
make that “hear” instead of “here”. I want my pay!
