What’s Gas Cost In Your Neck of the Woods?
By Alegre on April 29, 2008 at 8:56 AM in Barack Obama, Economy, Energy Policy Act of 2005, Environment, Hillary Clinton
It’s quickly approaching $4.00 in our part of Maryland (just north of DC). $3.80 last I checked and the way things are going I wouldn’t be surprised to see it hit $4.00 by the time the last of our primaries are done on June 3rd. People are hurting guys and it’s only going to get worse.
I’d hate to be a trucker right now. Parts of DC were at a standstill today as truckers converged on town to demonstrate against the soaring gas prices. They want action and they want it now (they’re not alone!). Truckers spend about $1,200 every time they fill their tanks and when you think of how much of our food and goods are moved by truck in this country, that’s gonna trickle down to higher prices for everything we buy - not just gas.
Well… Hillary’s just released a plan today to do something about those higher prices. Given the eejit in the White House right now we probably won’t see any action on this until she gets into the Oval Office next January, but at least she’s got a plan in place and will be ready on DAY ONE to put her plan into action.
MSNBC’s First Read reported the following about her plan earlier today…
This morning, Clinton unveiled a plan to tax oil company “windfall” profits to pay for a gas tax holiday, which she said would provide needed relief for working-class Americans, who have seen energy costs take up greater percentage of their incomes. Here, she also discussed plans to create new jobs in a push to move toward energy independence, while outlining tough tactics she’d employ against oil producing countries to keep oil prices in line.“Now, none of this is easy to do, but I don’t think we have a choice,” she said. “We can continue to be at the mercy of the … oil countries, which will mean that our standard of living will continue to decline. We will not recognize America. We will not recognize the American middle class. So we can either say, `OK, fine we’ll just kind of go along and, you know, elect somebody who’s nice or elect somebody who’s gonna continue the Bush policies. Or we can elect somebody who’s gonna fight for you. That is the choice in this election.”
Amid cheers, she made clear which candidate is that fighter.
I don’t do a lot of driving as far as my commute to work goes (5 miles each way) but I’m still feeling a lot of pain at the gas pump. Part of my job involves driving out to various county courthouses to record documents - some as far as 110 miles round-trip - and it’s been ages since they adjusted our reimbursement / mileage rate. The price of gas has gone up close to a buck since the last adjustment. Meanwhile the cost of food and our utilities have skyrocketed with no relief in sight.
Take a look at Hillary’s plan to tackle those skyrocketing prices…
Hillary Clinton’s Plan to Address Soaring Prices at the PumpAmericans are being squeezed at the pump like never before. The price of oil is approaching $120 a barrel. Gas is at a record high in North Carolina of $3.59, up from $3.26 a month ago and $2.90 a year ago, a 23 percent increase in just one year. And while the average family’s energy costs have gone up $2,000 a year since President Bush took office, average North Carolina family incomes have fallen by almost $5,000. Record oil prices are contributing to higher energy prices, food prices and a squeeze that is making many middle class families feel like they are falling further behind.
American families are hurting now. They need a President who will focus every day on ensuring that they can make ends meet. That is why today, Hillary is unveiling her aggressive plan to address the problem of skyrocketing gas prices. Hillary’s plan includes:
Imposing a windfall profits tax on oil companies and using the money to suspend the gas tax for the peak summer months;
Closing $7.5 billion in oil and gas loopholes and using the funds to provide assistance for lower-income families to pay their energy and grocery bills;
Cracking down on speculation by energy traders and market manipulation in oil and gas markets that are driving up the price of oil by at least $20 a barrel;
Pressuring OPEC to increase oil production, including by filing a WTO complaint against OPEC countries
Stopping new additions to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and standing ready to release oil to counter market spikes and reduce volatility.
This plan builds on Hillary’s long-term plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and address global warming. She has committed moving America towards energy independence by cutting foreign oil imports by two-thirds from 2030 projected levels, more than 10 million barrels per day.
For the rest of the plan please see Hillary Clinton’s news release
Now I’ve seen some pretty nasty remarks left by Hillary’s detractors (ok followers of her opponent) left on some of the other blogs here today whenever anyone dared report on Hillary’s new plan. And I guess the bigger the proponent of Obama’s, the bigger the lies.
That brings me back to David Axelrod. Yeah, yeah, I know I went after him in my diary last night but this is a different set of lies he’s put out there. Apparently he went on the TeeVee this afternoon and told another whopper. Take a look…
Axelrod Misrepresents Hillary’s Plan For Gas Tax Holiday
This afternoon on Hardball, Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, falsely claimed that Hillary’s plan to suspend the gas tax this summer would be financed by diverting funds for federal transportation projects:He’ll invest in our infrastructure, which badly needs it. We know that. That’s one of the reasons this diversion from the federal highway trust fund that Senator McCain and Clinton have proposed makes no sense.
This is false. Hillary’s plan is financed by a tax on the windfall profits of oil companies. Details here.
For those of you who can’t be bothered to follow the link in the above bit there - here’s the relevant bit…
Enact a Windfall Profits Tax on Oil Companies to Pay for Temporarily Suspending the Gas Tax - Hillary will impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and use the money to temporarily suspend the 18.4 cent per gallon federal gas tax and the 24.4 cent per gallon diesel tax during the upcoming peak summer driving months. Hillary will ensure that this relief is passed along to consumers by charging the Federal Trade Commission with conducting aggressive oversight. Unlike Senator McCain’s plan, Hillary’s plan will be fully paid for by taking away oil company profits through a windfall profits tax. This will ensure that the Highway Trust Fund is not affected at all by the gas tax suspension, and can continue to support critical repairs and maintenance for our infrastructure and highways. Suspending the gas tax will provide real, immediate assistance to American families and for our economy. Recent testimony before the House of Representatives by the American Trucking Association indicates that even small changes in price can have big impacts. Just a one-penny decrease in the price of diesel annualized over an entire year would save the trucking industry $391 million a year.
Now the media’s jumping in on that pile-of-lies bandwagon too (surprise surprise!) by claiming that she once opposed efforts to get rid of the gas tax. I really do wish they’d get their facts straight…
Hillary Opposed Gas Tax Holiday In 2000 Because It Was Financed With Transportation Funds
NBC’s First Read implies that Hillary’s plan for a gas tax holiday contradicts her position in 2000. This is false.Hillary’s plan today is financed exclusively with a tax on windfall profits from oil companies. She opposed a plan in 2000 for a gas tax holiday because it was financed with transportation funds:
“Clinton, whose daughter, Chelsea, joined her on the campaign trail for the first time yesterday in Manhattan, contends that getting rid of the gas tax would eliminate the funding stream for important transportation projects in New York and elsewhere…” [Newsday, 6/27/00]
“While New York sends $300 million a year to Washington in gas taxes, Clinton said it gets back $477 million in highway funding annually. The first lady said Lazio’s plan would have a ‘damaging impact’ on the state.” [Associated Press, 6/27/00]
Now something tells me the folks who gave MSNBC that lead on the factoid they just got wrong knew it was bad intel - but they still put that lie out there for general consumption hoping folks wouldn’t challenge it.
How sad that Axelrod tried to go on Hardball today and claim Hillary’s new plan would be paid for by drawing money off our transportation projects, after trying to point folks to her opposition to an earlier proposal without mentioning that she opposed it because it would draw off money from our transportation needs.
(Seriously - the guy has no shame in all this).
In this high-tech world where people have information and - oh you know… the facts at our fingertips, you’d think he’d just stop this crap and discuss the issues without adding all that bullsh#t.
Thank goodness for Google and the Internet.
SO - that brings me back to my initial question here. I know I’m going to regret asking this because we’re probably paying more than most of you around the rest of the country - but what’s a gallon of regular gas cost in your neck of the woods?
Answer the poll and leave a comment.
Kewpie doll goes to anyone who can top what I’m paying.

I was channel surfing last night and forgot I had blocked MSNBC and laughed when I saw the mostly empty screen asking for my pass code. That reminds me I need to email them and my television service provider and tell them why I have blocked the channel. I will also tell my provider I do not appreciate paying for the Obama propaganda network.
(Sorry, Alegre..this isn’t about gas…I’ll get to that in a minute. But everyday I seem to find something else to be pissed about!)
Here’s what Andrew Sullivan said in a Salon article on “What Obama should do about Wright”.
“But Wright was clearly in his speech Monday advocating racial conflict and division. He is also clearly obsessed with the politics
of the boomer era, its racial and cultural divides, and seeks to increase those divides, not overcome them.”
I am a “boomer” and am PROUD of the things I did in my life to overcome racial and cultural divides.
Now, not only am I a woman but a boomer woman who did NOTHING to improve the world.
Andrew Sullivan and Barack Obama can go to hell.
And remember how many of us “boomers” there are out there!!!
I beg to differ.
You are talking about gasbags and the output of said gasbags: gas.
:>)))))
It is over for Obama: He is about to start bleeding AA support:
Sharpton BLASTS Obama over Bell
Al Sharpton has called him out over the Sean Bell case. It is downhill from here.
Sharpton must know that Obama is on the way down and is looking to take Obama down while simultaneously lifting himself up as THE black leader of note in America.
This is descending into a free for all.
I have not figured out who he supports although I have not been looking to know. But I will check this out. If Sharpton is going after Obama knowing the crap he will take for doing so he sure must know something. We’ll see.
Al Sharpton is just figuring out the Obama is not what he claims to be. Obama claims to be a reformer that is seeking transformational change in the U.S. In reality he is just a weak politician that is willing to play the young, the naive, and most disturbingly African Americans for fools.
I think he has known for a while Obama is a chameleon but not being suicidal he has waited before lashing out.
No he’s not just waking up! Obama seriously compromised Sharpton and Jackson, Sr. When they realized that Obama’s candidacy had suceeded in inducing a mass psychosis among AAs, they had to keep their mouths shut and deal with it. Otherwise suffer the same fate as Tavis Smiley and other AAs. Smiley, btw, didn’t say he wasn’t supporting Obama. All he did was ask AAs to judge the candidate with the same yardstick that you’d judge non black ones. And to be weary of a candidate who won’t speak to our issues. And Smiley was right.
Sharpton hasn’t been happy for months. But he couldn’t say a thing. He may have some inside info, but the real deal is he’s been waiting patiently for an opportunity to pounce for a long time. Don’t expect Jackson Sr. to do the same. His son is too involved with the Obama campaign so he’s looking out for his kid.
All I can say is it’s about time. Maybe this will wake AAs up. But I will say this: if Obama gets the nomination and Sharpton is agressive about calling out Obama. That means that a lot of NY AAs here will be less than enthusiastic about his candidacy which will spell a deathknell for him winning NY State in the GE. I predicted from the beginning that Obama would have a tough time winning the blue state of NY and that McCain would be competitive here. If AAs decide not to support Obama because of Bell. McCain wins NY. Take that Obama trolls: LOL LOL LOL!!!!!
Jesse’s, Sr’s silence has said a lot.
And though I know of his reputation among certain quarters, I give the man credit.
And I’m glad to see Sharpton chastise Obama, he and Jackson can do much to save this travesty from irrevocably harming the AA community, in fact seizing the moment, and making hay.
Why?
Jesse has respect among certain crowds.
Jeeeeesus….Does anyone remember the teamsters strike in the 1970’s….
Or even and odd days at the gas pump….
Looks like Clinton does and is prepared to deal with it.
Bush and his oil pals are going to bleed us as long as they can get away with it.
Well….If Clinton is POTUS she can open investigations through the office of the Attorney General nto all sorts of business dealings of GWB and his cronies…..
Hmmmm……..I can think of no better hound dog for that position than John Edwards…….Hmmmmmm……..
Ever see those “oil pals” interviewed on TV?
I swear they must be hooked on prescription drugs, dumber than a donuts.
Good heavens, what do they think they will gain here, in the long run?
Nothing, one thing leads to another, there are no guarantees.
Well…..Wright is trying to take down the AA churches with him….
Sharpton appears to be COVERING HIS OWN ASS NOW…..
This is good news with NC coming up…. word will spread fast in the churches….
Interesting…..No ?
That’s interesting, Sharpton angry with Obama. Sharpton has a point, there hasn’t been any violence, so coming out with a statement against the protests is off the wall.
If Obama cared about violence he’d condemn the death threats towards Tavis Smiley and black superdelegates. That is violence that has already happened.
Oh don’t tell me Obama deigned to open his trap about there not being violence over the Sean Bell verdict?
Not with ObamaDonna talking about there will be blood on tv Sunday? What about the threats of violence/riots at the Convention if he doesn’t get the nom? That’s okay? But AAs upset because an unarmed man was shot 50 times by the police, not much.
Don’t fall for the head fake. Obama is just trying to transcend race here. As I predicted, he just threw the AA community under the bus with his ‘typical’ white grandmother. He’s playing to the white voters now.
This guy doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
Sharpton a bell weather ..something is up . He’s like Mr. number one Rat over the side when a ship hits an ice berg
Agree……Sharpton has his fan club…..Wonder who’s next….Hmmmmm
roflmao!!
#1 rat
roflmao!!
poor AL
he’s not so bad
kind of funny actually
No, it’s all part of the game.
Have Sharpton out there yelling and screaming. But Obama doesn’t appear to do anything.
So the apparent lack of support to Sharpton’s cause is supposed to make the TWP of the blue collar party say, ‘oh gosh, maybe Obama isn’t like them.” In other words, it allows Obama some distance and the appearance of not being the Black candidate.
But it’s all a game, because as Rev. Wright says, “he says what he says as a politician.”
“the apparent lack of support to Sharpton’s cause is supposed to make the TWP of the blue collar party say, ‘oh gosh, maybe Obama isn’t like them.” In other words, it allows Obama some distance and the appearance of not being the Black candidate.”
I posted something similar above. Don’t fall for the head fake. Now’s the time to call him out over the threats of violence/riots at the Convention if he doesn’t get the nom and why no statement about that? Oh… 50 shots by police on an unarmed man should be met with tea and crumpets? But if Hillary gets the nomination, his people should throw down?
Call him out people. Don’t let this narcissistic snake slither away like this.
+
With the exception of jealousy, there might be some strong rivalries between Sharpton, say, and Farrakhan, out of control egotism.
But I agree, it’s always good to stay watchful.
Here’s the original link from the NYPost entitled “SHARPTON RAPS OBAMA”
I agree, Rev Al wants to float to the top as Obama flails.
If a politician loses his/her position due to support of OBAMESSIAH would they be victim of Obamacide…..
The last time I filled up our F-350 with diesel, I spent $4.20 a gallon. That was on April 13, the day before our county convention. I couldn’t believe the price of diesel and made a video comment about it and Hillary. That was the day I was making very short videos about my caucus adventures. That post is called My Cauci Adventures documented. . . If you like the cauci system go to the following link and read my feelings. That post also has many links back to other cauci posts.
http://tinyurl.com/6crqoh
Anyway, I haven’t driven our pick-up much since then—-I am affraid to fill-it up again!
OOoooo, the plural of caucus is cauci? Wow, if it’s pronounced like I think it is, how appropriate!
I will check out your link.
Gas is at 3.97 here today. I had to get some for the lawnmower and it was over 20 bucks. I’m thinking of just getting a herd of goats. Goats could eat the darn grass and save me gas money. And they’re so cute! I might be able to hook up a goat cart and stop driving all together. That’s where this country is heading, we’re all going to become goat herders at this rate.
I don’t even want to talk about what my retirement account is doing. I’m telling you, I should cash the damn thing out and just buy goats. They’d be a more stable investment.
I might be able to hook up a goat cart and stop driving all together. That’s where this country is heading,
You aren’t kidding! A friend just turned her lawn into a truck garden ( that a means FOOD garden )Doesn’t anyone remember a series of books from the ’70s call Foxfire? It was a bunch of books that explained how folks did stuff and what tools they used before electicity! They meant come in handy!
I drove from Vermont to Maryland on Sunday- gas was $3.55 in Vermont, $3.74 on the NY thruway, $3.39 on the Garden State pkway in NJ, and $3.65 here (but today it’s $3.69.)
I drive a Honda that gets about 35 MPG. It cost me about $70 each way to drive to VT. I consider myself very lucky. I dont feel sorry for SUV owners, and fuck the idiots who bought Humvees, but my heart goes out to the truckers. If they go down, we are all screwed.
Nationalize the oil companies!! Run them on a non-profit basis! Pass laws requiring that cars get a certain number of MPG, and use the money brought in from the sale of oil to build high-speed rails and other national public transit systems- and to INVEST IN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY!
I think it will be reported later today that Obama has a new plan to address this crisis consisting of Hillary’s plan with a footnote of “I agree with Senator Clinton!”
LOL…..He is consistant is he not…..
Consistently shallow, inept, unoriginal, willing to engage in god knows what to become elected, selfish, egotistical, thinks he can talk and spin his way out of anything, greedy, sticks his foot in his mouth, picks some of the worst people to associate with, suffers from delusions of grandeur, easily manipulated by others such as Wright and his other “mentors,” dishonest, unrepentant, steals other people’s ideas, doesn’t learn from his mistakes, unwise, unpresidential, overestimates his own meager skill set, arrogant, thinks himself “historical” (he must be a soothsayer as well), has zero clue he is being walked and manipulated by the worst kind of people who have their own agendas, shortsighted and suffers terminal rectal cranial inversion. Surely everything America wants in its next president.
Please excuse me if I missed anything.
Forgot consistently uses the race card.
Consistent hypocrite as well.
ROFL…..If I did’nt know any better I’d swear you described my lil brother who is also a con man and consistantly loses jobs with inflated and fraudulent resumes…..
He now manages a car wash is East Texas…..But that’s a different story….
I would’nt vote for anyone from my generation ( BABY-O and I are the same age )
Anyone who knows the movie DAZED AND CONFUSED would understand…..We need more seasoning as a generation…..IMHO
Speaking of, I had to go to the DMV this morning, and the guy in front of me, black pants, nice shirt, tie, business type, dark sunglasses, maybe late thirties, was stinking drunk.
HOW the hell does anyone walk into the DMV reeking of alcohol, at 8:00 am?
Gas here is between $3.45 and $3.59 depending on the time of day, I think. I drive 45 miles each way and drive an SUV because I live in Colorado and have to be able to get to work in the winter.
I think it would pay to buy a second car that I can drive when there is no snow. Right now it costs about $600/month for gas. If I can save half of that, I guess, I should. I was driving my daughter’s Saturn, but she got a job after school, so she needs it.
It has been a real shock to pay so much for gas, then have to buy groceries for 3 teenagers over the last few months.
I think it would pay to buy a second car that I can drive when there is no snow.
believe me people use to do just that
It’s called a “beater.” Usually an older, depreciated-down flivver of limited convenience features and low monetary value which, if struck and/or destroyed by the snow plow or another driver would not induce much Josannah’ing or monetary discomfort.
I dumped my Honda RidgeLine (spiffy rig; POOR gas economy) and kept my Beater (ancient Jeep Cherokee 6-banger, “auction queen”, OK mileage, looks like the Tijuana Taxi) for all driving.
Definitely, buy a smaller car and put the SUV in the garage for emergencies. Because this isnt’ going to get any better for a long, long time.
Kansas City, Missouri gas is $3.46
Jenn, I’ll have to go across state line — in Kansas City, KS & Johnson County, it’s $3.49. It’s been going up 3 cents a day for weeks.
I paid $3.45 a gallon for regular in New Jersey yesterday. My usual Citgo station was closed due to a weather-related blackout where the price was a bargain - $3.39!
In Southern California right now gas is $3.89 for regular. And that was a week ago. It may be more by now. I’ll find out later today.
NE PA, $3.72
We here know our Hillary is a policy wonk and knows her stuff. The only way Obama’s empty headed campaign can get traction on policy is to put out disinformation on her policies and steal the rest and present it as their own. The price of gas is really putting high heat under that boiling pot of recession. Hillary understands that. She’ll fight for us. I’m not sure Barry will actually fight for anyone but himself.
Obama’s shift to the right might preclude him from such an ‘attack’ on the energy companies as to push a windfall profits tax. I really believe that he would take Democrats into uncharted right wing territory. By ‘reaching across the aisle’ he really means ‘pandering to big energy and other corporate donors’. He doesn’t want to insult all those wives of oil execs and lobbyists that give give give to his campaign.
You are so …correct! ( i won’t say right)If one looks at his $ backers they are from Wall St etc. and BO has said he wants to give Wall St social Security …in that he thinks privatizing is great…privatizing is code for stealing SS for wall st. Plus the guy praises Reagan!
I live in the Hudson Valley and I paid $4.37 for gas on Sunday and I filled up my car today and paid $4.29 at the same station.
I think Obama’s opposition on the suspension of the gas tax and the addition of the wind fall tax on oil companies is just another example of his playing to the corporate crowd. Hillary has called for the elimination of private contractors in Iraq and Obama wants them there, Hillary has called for big cuts in the defense department Obama wants to look at some eliminations of system (very vague). Obama is a supporter of nuclear energy, Clinton is opposed (my son worked with Her staff in trying to close Indian Point nuclear facility).
Yippee!

North Carolina Governor Mike Easley Endorses Hillary for President
North Carolina Governor Mike Easley today announced his endorsement of Hillary for President.
“I am supporting Hillary Clinton because she has a passion for improving the lives of all Americans. She will be a president who stands up for people across North Carolina – and this country – every day in the White House,” said Governor Easley. “I know she will get to work immediately making education and the economy her top priorities for our nation. She is ready to lead our country and has the ability to deliver.”
Easley was elected governor in November 2000 and re-elected in 2004. He has restored fiscal discipline to North Carolina’s finances while also increasing investments in education and infrastructure, key components to recruiting and retaining high quality jobs and industry for the state.
“I am honored to have the support of Governor Easley, whose vision and persistence have made higher education affordable and accessible for North Carolinians,” said Senator Clinton. “I look forward to working with him in our efforts to turn around the economy and rebuild the middle class.”
Excellent endorsement for Hillary. Sounds like Gov. Easley is Hillary’s type of politician, with his background in improving the economics of NC as well as investing in education and infrastructure. Good show, Gov.!!
That platform beats McCain.
Ocala, Florida is $3.66
$3.69 to $3.89 in Chicago suburbs, although in the city of Chicago, I have seen stations over $4.00, especially the closer you get to the downtown areas.
Going up to Milwaukee last weekend, we saw $3.59
as the average. Usually gas is much less in Wisconisn than Illinois but not right now.
Concur.
Though in downtown Chicago is just saw $4.29 for premium and $4.09 for mid-grade. Think of it as our way of welcoming the summer tourists. Out in my bitter, clingy suburbs it’s just under $4 for premium, maybe $3.89 for mid-grade.
But even worse, prices for white wine is are skyrocketing even faster out here, what with distraught liberals drowning their sorrows over the recent, um, troubles with Rev. Wright.
ot……She says yes…….he says ?
Sen. Hillary Clinton accepted a Montana newspaper publisher’s “invitation to participate in a Lincoln-Douglas debate.
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/04/29/clinton_accepts_offer_of_lincolndouglas_debate.html
Btw….gas is 3.53 approx.
“He is busy with the voters” will be his answer. Yeah, those adoring crowds with his events coordinator demanding more white people to be seated behind him.
Tucson, AZ = I hate to tell you this but regular gas is about $3.35. (I won’t tell you how much the gas we get from listening to anything about Obama costs!!!)
On a related topic…we lived in Michigan part of last year and got a tax refund. I actually feel bad! We had to pay CT (a state that bleeds you at every turn!) and poor Michigan gave us money back.
Maybe I’ll spend it on Hillary.
3.55 here at the Ingles in WNC. But we are the cheapest in the state almost!
It’s going up they say.

Good Morning Friends,
I am doing a 24 hour fund raising drive. My goal is $440. We need to get Hillary’s dollars up as high as we can so that she can report strong numbers for the end of April. Dig as deep as you can and donate as much as you can in the next 24 hours! Thanks.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I’ll pass it along.
It’s 3.70+ in MA …
Obama in NC laughed at McCain tax holiday and asked: “After 25 years in Congress this is the best you can come up with ; no energy efficiency plans, etc ”
All these are good and fair critisicims of McCain.
But then Obama said: “You come up with a plan for the summer that is going to save fox, what? $25 bucks?”
That’s right he said $25 bucks.
Not $25 bucks a week or much more if you are a trucker … Obama has NO CLUE.
And Obama’s plan? To laugh at the other plans and offer nothing of his own. As his audience cheers on the latest serving of NOTHING.
Obama has none; as you say.
Well he did mention it on his laundry list. He ‘mentions’ everything, just never mentions what he’s going to do about it. The empty suit.
And when he’s asked about this or anything else of substance, he says stuff like “you know, we’ve (always the royal “we”) been talking about his for a long time…”
Talking. Posing. Bloviating. Anything but DOING.
Obama’s plan: Wake up in the morning. Shy away from eating toast because he is toast. Eat waffles instead. Get more bad news from Axelrod and a speech to regurgitate at next rally consisting of one word repeated (”blah”) until the audience succumbs to daily koolaid intoxication. Have arugula salad for lunch and for dessert some delicious tasty home baked humble pie baked by Hillary for him. Piss off a bunch of gun slinging isolationist bitter bible thumping hicks by making elitist remarks in front of a group of snobs. Make another speech with maximum quantities of white people behind him. Get some rest to prepare for the next day.
Obamugwamp certainly did not impress the Falculty of WHARTON SCHOOL OF BUSINESS with his GRASP of economic policy….
Waffles is not very perceptive and not much of a thinker about what he does manage to notice. He is neither a Big Picture nor a detail guy.
His policy interests and expertise are too parochial for a POTUS; he would do better in the Illinois state legislature — or as Governor of Texas.
LOL….Well a least in Texas the office of Govenor is mostly ceremonial….
The real power is the Lt. Govenor.
EXACTLY!!!
He ain’t got the hair to be Gov of Texas. (see: rick “Good Hair” Perry)
ROFL….Yes Rick Perry the great GOP blow up doll…..
You are such an Easy Room, artist…
$3.69 in Silver Spring MD.
Heard on POTUS 08 this morning explaining how a “holiday” from the federal gas tax will help if it’s coupled with a windfall profits tax which will recover billons from the oil companies- in other words, the tax break for everyday Americans will be PAID FOR.
Then they played Barack Obama criticizing Hillary’s plan because it’s “just a temporary solution” and it won’t work because “oil companies will just raise the price of gasoline.” It’s back to school for Senator Obama so that someone can tell him what “windfall profits” means. Just a quick note to get you started, Senator Dumbass: with a windfall profits tax, there’s no incentive for gas companies to raise the price at the pump.
Obama then proceeded to offer as a solution: absolutely nothing.
I heard John McCain talking about what a great idea just eliminating the federal gas tax is- yeah, because everyone I know is waxing poetic over the glorious days of $3.47 per gallon gasoline. You are an out of touch moron, Senator McCain.
Want LEADERSHIP on this and other issues? Hillary’s your candidate. Obviously.
I honestly don’t know what gas costs in my neighborhood - I had a car wreck the week gas hit three bucks a gallon after Hurricane Katrina, and at that point in time I had to wait three months for a hybrid, so I sucked it up and started using public transit and now my car is three years old, has less than 6000 miles and I am still on the tank of gas I bought at Christmas when I went out of town the last time.
NC & IN, Hillary hears you.

We’re trying to obtain 50,000 signatures by May 31 to deliver to the DNC before the end of the primary season in June.
Traffic to the petition has been very slow since we reached our initial goal of 10,000 signatures. Please drop a link to the petition whereever supporters of democracy lurk.

Obama’s Fox Trot
Election ‘08: Barack Obama’s interview on “Fox News Sunday” showed a liberal uncomfortable with the truth. He is often compared to JFK, a leader who made tough choices. But Obama turns out to be a profile in porridge
LMAO
Can anybody explain why diesel is more expensive than regular fuel? In days of yore it was cheaper. That seems designed to create inflation.
How much does it cost to move material by rail compared with by truck. Of course fewer trucks would mean more truckers’ mortgages in default.
Seems the oil companies have us by the ass.
Has anybody noticed that their mileage has improved? Or does it always do that in cooler weather?
One of the things (and this is a pet peeve) is how people continue to site new houses with no consideration of solar gain. So many homes are oriented north-south and with often a windowless facade of a multi car garage at the south end.
The Clean Diesel Initiative (taking most of the sulfur out of #2 Diesel). Raises refining costs.
Also, they jack it up Because They Can.
“American PetroBusiness. Play ball with us, or we’ll shove the bat up your ass!”
Sulfur removal to produce ultra low sulfur diesel only adds $0.05-10 a gallon. And new techology usually costs more when it is first introduced, doesn’t it? Diesel was consistently ~$0.50 more all across the country.
Odd (by which I mean suspicious) that the Regimist EPA has been big on the Clean Diesel Initiative when their overall policy has been “Fuck It” and “Down with Overregulation.”
It also has a lot to do with supply and demand, and where one is in the supply chain.
The more SuperDuty’s and RAM’s with Diesel power, the more demand for #2.
But, mostly, they’re screwing us Because They Can.
portland oregon … last friday it was 3.59 for the cheapest … diesel was over 4.15 if i remember correctly.
