Bill O’Reilly Open Thread [Updated]

JUST ANNOUNCED on Hannity, Fox News: Hillary Clinton now leads Barack Obama 46-44 in North Carolina. (And my friend who is working his tail off in No. Carolina tells me that volunteers are streaming into the offices, and the “feel” of the campaign is transformed, as well as the great, positive reactions they’re getting from voters.)

UPDATE: “InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Survey: North Carolina Democratic Primary: Hillary Clinton Takes Lead Over Obama” (Compiled from InsiderAdvantage and Southern Political Report staff) || PDF of polling results

AND HERE’s THE VIDEO, as PROMISED — and now Part Two is up:

Part Two:

NOW the video is up at Fox News; click above. Also check out THIS report on the great new poll numbers from Fox News. Or read the full article.

And Real Clear Politics nails the reason for Obama’s press conference yesterday:

So why did this particular performance by Wright finally create the need for Obama to speak up more forcefully? That answer is simple: falling poll numbers in Indiana, North Carolina and nationally, and to that, we can safely conclude, Barack Obama takes great offense. — From “Obama’s Wright Turn,” by Richard Baehr

Did you see the latest Fox Poll?

HRC favorable rating up, higher than BO now. BO dropped 10 points!!.

HRC is viewed as tough, intelligent, and more in touch with American People.

Fox had their pollster on along with the Rasmussin guy. The Ras. guy has like a 14 point spread but said the results of the last few days are not included. He expects the gap to close on his polls as well. He said if Obama wins NC they do not expect it to be handily. Both pollsters agreed that Wright has hurt him significantly.

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-01 05:45:55

And Rasmussen is always in the tank for Barack Obama.

Oh, she’s doing great right now talking about oil prices and energy prices. She’s very forceful and serious, and that is great!

Comment by tam | 2008-04-30 19:07:08

She laughed at his assertion that she was going to “bankrupt the country” with health care.

She thinks he’s hilarious, it’s great.

Comment by John | 2008-04-30 19:08:25

Hey Bill, you have Hillary on your show. Big coup. How about letting her ANSWER A FUCKING QUESTION instead of just bloviating and strutting sitting down?

Believe it or not, for the next few minutes, the viewers want to hear your guest, not you. Take a deep breath. Let your guest talk.

Hillary- courageous as hell. And thinking and talking circles around O’Reilly.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-04-30 19:14:36

He sure is full of himself, but she’s used to these types being in the Senate….

Comment by Andy | 2008-04-30 21:34:10

Agreed!

He kept interrupting and talking himself. very annoying and agressive. He is too in love with himself– but he seems to do this to everyone…

Good she stood her ground and didn’t let him dominate.

Found funny he said they two were alike about “likability question”.

Comment by bert | 2008-04-30 22:50:47

Interrupting is O’Reilly’s shtick, his trademark. It is his way of bullying and putting his guest off their game. Most cannot stand up to him, mostly because they don’t really know their topic and don’t have the intelligence, wit, and chutzpah to go one-on-one with him.

But Hillary was right there in his face, not giving a quarter and she did it with fire, passion, grace, and class. She was fantastic and beat him at his own game. He never said it, but he was impressed with her ability to go one-on-one with him and not falter or stumble. Not once. She was brilliant and fantastic!!!!! BRAVO HILLARY.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-04-30 21:08:54

That cracks me up. He has no credibility as an analyst because he’s so consumed, to this day, with anger that he got canned. I MUCH prefer Karl Rove, who has the capacity to be relatively objective.

Fuck Florida
Fuck Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, South Dakota.

And that means I get to say

Christ O’Reilly is determined to act like a rude bully- this is telling me a lot about what kind of people he thinks watches his show.

But Hillary continues to run circles around him. I can’t believe O’Reilly is trying to make this all about him- “I pay a lot of money, what are your plans gonna do to ME?”

And he’s a total idiot- “Income redistribution, making the rich pay more taxes than the poor, that’s Socialism…” no, it’s not, you clueless dick.

Comment by cc | 2008-04-30 19:58:35

everything is always and has always been about OReilly. He’s an egotistical pig…but he was right, Fox has been more fair than CNN, and especially MSNBC.

Comment by John | 2008-04-30 19:17:11

OH GOOD FUCKING LORD- “Tax rates were really really low when I was growing up in Levittown…”

You goddamned liar Bill. Taxes were high on the MIDDLE CLASS in the 40s and 50s. Your dad, you’ve admitted in the past, made $35,000 a year when he retired- $150,000 in today’s money.

Low taxes in the 40s and 50s- you are either lying or you just plain don’t know shit. Choose one.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-30 19:32:15

She’s a woman. SHe expects to be called

1. Polarizing
2. a Bitch
3. a Lesbian

They come with the territory and you just shrug. If Hillary Clinton were a man, her behaviors would be rated as

1. Strong and Decisive
2. Too smart to be a fool
3. A Real Man.

All that stands between the two lists is a dick.

Look at the Olberman rating. Bust in bed. And Merlot besides! Yeesh I don’t know which is worse, being a lousy lay or bringing Merlot.

Comment by zama guy | 2008-04-30 22:03:29

I agree - if she were a man it would be different. I also would add some are against her because of the relationship she has with Bill regarding his womanizing ways. Imagine that, a woman that forgives her husband for being unfaithful. I thought thats what Christians do. I guess forgivness is only good when its convienient. As in Bush taking us to war for no reason. Let’s forgive him - after all - he is an idiot.

Comment by Janis | 2008-04-30 22:43:00

And honestly, as much of a flawed husband as he is, he is standing up for her and working himself to the bone for HER AMBITIONS and HER ASPIRATIONS. That means so much.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-04-30 23:53:30

Comment by Garlic-Nosed Guitarist | 2008-04-30 23:33:07

As a self-appointed honorary feminist, I agree 100%. :) I actually looked up the definition and I totally agree with feminism:

“The doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.”

Sounds good to me, women want the same rights and opportunities men. Count me in on continuing to fight for that!

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-01 05:48:32

Feminism should have been good for both sexes. If it had reached its full potential.

Comment by Garlic-Nosed Guitarist | 2008-05-01 08:38:20

I don’t know much about it but those ideals strike a loud chord with my spirit. I’ll guess the term has been demonized by oppressors over time to keep women down.

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-01 08:41:57

The one thing about assigning roles to the sexes is that there are a lot of people who are miserable. For every woman more suited to being a CEO, there is a man not suited to working in the 9 to 5 atmosphere. How much lower would the death rates be due to heart disease and strokes if men had a better satisfaction level with their lives? Not a scientific poll … merely a rosey observation ;)

Oh, she’s was sooo good. Can’t wait til the next installments. She was sooo personable and just all around likable, funny, and impressively knowledgeable.

Comment by John | 2008-04-30 19:22:00

I totally agree, she was amazing. No hesitations at all. Smart, funny and right to the point.

I cannot BELIEVE there are people out there who hate this woman (or at least claim to hate her) or prefer Barack Oblather to this REAL leader.

Comment by tam | 2008-04-30 19:27:34

Agreed. It makes no sense. She was very personable, she fought for the middle class and spoke knowledgeably about taxes, oil, economy, etc.

I was just thinking that I’m glad I can be proud of my candidate and never be worried about how she’s going to perform or be embarrassed by her inability to answer tough questions. She doesn’t shy away from a fight, and I like that. O’Reilly got his clock cleaned, and that was only the first 10 minutes.

Comment by JoeySky | 2008-04-30 19:30:43

Exactly. We don’t have to worry at all when she is in the White House. And imagine how worry we will be if the other guy got there.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-04-30 19:58:29

They hate her because they are afraid of her……Can you imagine if Sen. Clinton was able to be an MLK figure for women….
Think about it…..There are frightened and abused women out there…..
Interesting……No ?

Comment by cc | 2008-04-30 20:02:32

Hillary is an awesome role model for women worldwide! the fact that she can take whatever these sexist jerks dish out over and over again, yet continue growing stronger, is a testament to what a great leader she would be. Also - before the “factor” O’Reilly told Shep Smith that the Clinton machine was formidable. The right wing folks are worried about her, but they can’t hold back on Obama because to them Obama is the anti-christ!

Comment by Janis | 2008-04-30 22:44:34

She sure is. If she makes it, she will have made a huge difference to THIS woman, who has put up with a great deal in my profession. But if she can stand up to all that and make it, then there is no reason why I can’t. Ever. And I’m never EVER going to back down again.

Comment by speaktruth | 2008-04-30 22:53:58

Hey, that’s exactly why they are so afraid of her.

They’re getting the picture - and they don’t like it. Imagine, an MLK for women. All of us not backing down again. I just signed a petition for the equal pay for women they’re discussing in the Senate.

Repubs actually FILIBUSTERED it - that’s how scared they are. And McCain said only problem for women, reason we are paid less is we need more education and training!
Is this man delusional - or what?

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-05-01 08:48:10

They always had it in more over her than Ol’ Bill…..She is threatening because she is a female who demands equality….
That’s why they played up the cookies….Rile up all those women who are comfy in their assigned place….It’s been going on since the Clinton’s hit the scene….

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-01 09:07:09

She is spending almost as much now in Indiana and North Carolina as he is.

There are no slots left for media buys.

This morning’s “staged” event to “not talk about Reverand Wright any more” is to get his face in front of the voters in NC and Indy. The expectations have already been articulated for him in Indiana. It is HOME COURT ADVANTAGE for him. A loss in Indiana is HUGE. It is worse than her drawing close in North Carolina. He can’t continue to look back fondly on rolling up eleven in a row. That was almost two months ago.

He is starting to stink like a loser.

So please all donate… It don’t matter how much…. Let’s give these media weasels some numbers to make their
heads spin!

p.s. I’ll just wait until the interview’s over and see what everybody thought. I don’t need the stinkin’ stress.

Comment by tam | 2008-04-30 19:30:14

surprisingly, it wasn’t stressful at all. And I haven’t watched the MSM since February for fear I might stroke out.

She was brilliant, and had me smiling the whole time. Every time O’Reilly would say something ignorant, she would just laugh and confidently correct the record and then run circles around him on the issues.

She was spectacular. The interview brightened my day. You could see on O’Reilly’s face that she called his bluffs on a lot of issues - I think he was impressed, and a bit embarrassed that she handled him like that.

Comment by wry | 2008-04-30 23:37:27

I actually just wrote to O’Reilly and thanked him. He was more respectful than Olbermann, Matthews, Russert and all the nasty little white boys on Kos and Huff Po and TPM.
I think he, like Buchanan, is impressed by her.

Having been heavily involved with upstate New york politics in many ways, including having served in office in my city, and having dealt with nutcases all the way up to the state level, New York is HIGHLY taxed, but that has NOTHING to do with Hillary Clinton and EVERYTHING to do with a dysfunctional state senate and assembly that just can’t get enough money to dole out to their friends. New York’s financial woes are the fault of New york legislators and the crackpot thief we had for a governor for more years than he deserved to serve.

In upstate NY the health care insurers, the utility companies OWN the state. They have donated so much money it is no wonder they are raping people left and right and getting away with it. Health insurance costs and utility costs are tow TOP reasons companies drive right by the state. And nobody does a thing about it because they are Owned. Hillary and Chuck tried to do plenty of things in upstate NY but the truth is, the “leaders” there in plenty of places just can’t get the hell out of their own way. They are just too busy taking care of each other and cutting nothing when it comes to costs without sacrificing services. It’s just a big governmental picnic in plenty of spots, starting with Joe Bruno The Broker. Every republican in the state senate is Bruno’s Poodle. I just don’t know why Hillary doesn’t just plain come out and talk about that when someone accuses her of being the blame for upstate NY’s condition.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-30 19:53:46

Is it as bad as IL, no wonder everything in this country seemed to fall apart.

But at least they can fix it now that the problem has been identified.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-30 20:16:32

Hell no! They won’t fix it till a city’s door closes and the state has to take it over. Then these incestuous thieves will get the point. Till then, The Band Plays On. But the most important thing here is none of it has ANYTHING to do with Hillary and if you ask me, she’s being too much of a lady about it. I had the great fortune of being in her company on several occasions when she was first running for Senate and I knew instantly she was way over these people’s heads in terms of teamwork.

Comment by Patti | 2008-04-30 19:58:55

I love the people who blame the ills of NY on Hillary Clinton..

I have lived outside of Syracuse NY all my life. Companies were leaving Syracuse and NY long before she became Senator, before her husband was the President. My husband lost his job in 1986. Our local GE left. Hmm if Im correct Ronnie Reagan was President.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-30 20:23:04

You guys have that thieving Lockheed Martin there in Syracuse though. That was all very interested. I was a GE software engineer for a fair number of years. Then I became a manager and did nothing. I’m sure your husband will understand what I mean. Anyways, that Aerospace deal was very very smelly. That Martin Marietta’s Norm Augustine started buying up 100% of nothing in the aerospace industry. First he sucked up GE Aerospace and they called it a merger so they could illegally steal GE vested pensions to shore up their own underfunded pension fund –and get away with it, unheard of till they pulled it off. Then he snapped up Lockheed. I still call them GE- LockMart. lol. He was gearing up for the next war. Smarmy company, that one. You can bet that all the politicians in upstate NY did squat right to keep them from leaving. But you are right, Upstate NY was dead meat long before Hillary arrived, and that’s the way they like it if you ask me.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-30 20:47:27

Didn’t Northrup get caught up in this, also, as well as Boeing, on the West Coast?

We didn’t see as much of this, what you’re describing, we worked on the Space Station, among other projects, life support systems, managing construction of through enterprise project management, a subcontractor to Boeing, and Allied Signal. We owned our own company, still do, though things have changed, for any number of reasons.

Brutal work, but amazing to see what can be accomplished.

We can essentially apply the concept of enterprise project management to any project, from reorganization of a company say, to construction of the F-22.

It was under Clinton we were given this opportunity, the conditions were right, and the federal government easier to work with, in terms of operating a small business.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-30 21:25:55

I remember when Northrup blew that F-20 project. Talking about flushing millions down the can.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-30 22:06:11

Comment by speaktruth | 2008-04-30 23:04:46

And therefore don’t forget connection - GE, MSNBC. Could their Hillary hate have something to do with that corruption and fear of the Clintons. Bill did order GE to clean up the Hudson. Which they still have not done.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-05-01 05:20:54

Ah ha — yep — GE — wonderful compay, NOT.

I was in Pittsfield (Mass) years ago — another GE town. Now General Dynamics owns what is left of the Town.

GE > Martin > Lockheed Martin > General Dynamics.

And yes it was during the Reagan/Bush years that all the buying and selling of companies happened and the Pension?? Lost somewhere between, slipped into pockets or offshore?

My husband’s cousin was very involved in Upstate GOP politics for decades. Voted against the ERA — and I have shunned them ever since.

Upstate NY is really completely different than NYC. Sort of like Western Washington and Eastern Washington.

Uppity, what happened to Alan Chartok and WAMC?

I came across NY a week or so ago and could not find the station.

It’s still there, 91.9 I think. But it’s become much more conservative, and have a lot of pro-Obama stuff. But much better than cable TV.

Olbermann is touting the SD decision because he knows barry is going to loose the next round in Indiana , NC West and Virginia etc ..It’s his contribution to barrys loosing campagin.. I cannot believe that super delegate decsions have been made so soon. If so maybe the Democratic Party really does have a death wish

It wouldn’t surprise me if they give this nomination to Barky no matter what. his largesse has been spread far and wide, including his fundraising list. If they do that, They can play with themselves in the dark with him till November if they do this, because they are going into marginized mode after November for the next decade, just like all the other times they pulled this crap. The left-of-left leftwing radical nutcases do it everytime to the party when they get off on some snobby candidate. They have some kind of death wish for the Demcratic party or something. Obama would never win. And plenty of Democrats will help make sure he doesn’t, particularly the moderates, which happen to be the majority. They never learn.

Great interview. Even the Obama supporters had only good things to say about Clinton and barely mentioned Obama. Priceless.

Listening to Dick Morris. He certainly doesn’t try to hide his dislike of her. When it comes to her he is extremely irrational (and comical).

Bill asked him last week if he could beat him up when Hillary pulls it off.

How can SDs turn a blind eye on a big angry elephant swinging his trunk in a small room? Wright is a disaster to Obama & Democrat Party.

Hillary’s interview isn’t on here yet!
