What’s really going on in No. Carolina

___________________

THE HARD FACTS: REV. WRIGHT is a huge problem for Barack Obama in the state of North Carolina, which votes Tuesday. People know that repudiations don’t count for much when Obama sat in his pews for 20 years, and that Rev. Wright married him, baptized his children, and “blessed” his $1.6M mansion. People know the repudiation was poll-driven. People know the repudiation was “politically expedient.”
___________________

PhotobucketVia Halperin’s Time magazine blog:

Several local papers analyze if the latest slew of events has had an effect on voters.

Charlotte Observer: “Obama forcefully denounced Wright on Tuesday in Winston-Salem…but some white voters remained bothered by Obama’s ties to Wright.”

News & Observer: The North Carolina race is tightening, with Obama’s struggles in distancing himself from Wright “apparently eroding his once formidable lead.”

NOW, here’s the word from two Hillary Clinton supporters, one a soldier at Ft. Bragg, the other a ’round-the-clock grassroots volunteer in North Carolina — as well as Gov. Mike Easley’s new TV ad for Hillary:

This Ft. Bragg soldier’s blog headline?

This blog belongs to a Soldier 4 Hillary.

She writes:

“[S]o many people have crossed the line. More concerned with just “winning” … just thinking about the moment. Not realizing that this is bigger than what I want and need or you may want and need. But our needs as a whole.

Yes change is coming. Because this primary, here, in North Carolina, will go to Senator Clinton. Because we intend to support the candidate, who supports us.

Now, from the grassroots 18/7 volunteer in North Carolina, and the Easley ad:

I’m on the ground in Charlotte. Our Honk 4 Hillary events draw over 15 people, and we elicit honks from virtually everyone who passes us. White women and white undeclared voters in the Republican precincts of south Charlotte have flocked to Clinton. And I hear the rurals are Clinton Country. According to one staffer with whom I am in contact, Clinton will close in on Obama from Asheville and from the vote east of I-95. And then she will cut into his margins in the Research Triange.

The office is buzzing with volunteers. Once Clinton won PA, the Charlotte office was abuzz with telephone calls and sign requests. We will hold an AIDS walk with Chelsea Clinton on Saturday, and my group will continue our Honk 4 Hillary events, which has attracted press inquiries from throughout the country. I guess I have attracted a lot of attention, as I have been on the news five times.

The rally in Charlotte was a huge success: the stadium was full; Clinton delivered an economic populist message; and the crowd was ecstatic. The Easley endorsement has catapulted her campaign into the margin of error, and the Latino and Asian-American communities have rallied behind her.

The Obama campaign has waged a sign war in Charlotte, and they are removing and destroying our signs on private property. The Obama campaign has also sent hate mail to my home and to the homes of members of my group who published letters to the editor in the Charlotte Observer. And yes, young white men and African-Americans make lewd gestures during our Honk for Hillary events. In other words, the electorate is divided, and the mood is bitter.

Obama’s campaign is not visible in Charlotte. Yes, he has two offices, but I have not encountered one volunteer. The Clinton campaign has offices in Charlotte and in all the surrounding rural counties. Bill is visiting small town after small town, and Obama will visit Charlotte for the second time this weekend, as he realizes he has a problem here.

AND — last but by no means least — the NEW North Carolina ad featuring Governor Mike Easley, a superdelegate for Hillary:

Following is the script for the ad.

“Determined”
TV :30

Gov. Easley: These are tough times in America and I think that Hillary is the one we can count on to get the job done.

She’s going to turn the economy around, she’s going bring new jobs, she’s going to get some tax cuts for the middle class for a change.

She’s going to make health care available to everybody in this country, and she’s going to do everything she can to help every child reach their full potential.

She is so resilient, so determined.

She knows how to deliver.

She’ll be a great president.

Hillary Clinton: I’m Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

OBAMA PEOPLE SUCCEEDED IN SWAYING ONE MORE SD FROM CLINTON TO SWITCH TO OBAMA

MR JOE ANDREW

WELL JOE IS REALLY STUPID BECAUSE HERE IS THE LATEST POLLS
Florida

Clinton 49, McCain 41
McCain 44, Obama 43

Ohio

Clinton 48, McCain 38
McCain 43, Obama 42

Pennsylvania

Clinton 51, McCain 37
Obama 47, McCain 38

Key finding:

Among white working-class voters, Clinton ties McCain 45 - 45 percent in Florida, leads 46 - 40 percent in Ohio and 48 - 40 percent in Pennsylvania. These same voters back McCain over Obama 51 - 34 percent in Florida, 49 - 34 percent in Ohio and 45 - 38 percent in Pennsylvania.
Of course this is not to say Obama can not win these states (though I think he can not win Florida). Just that Clinton has a better chance of winning them.

Just a little tit for tat. Clinton has McAuliffe and Rendell — former party chairs so Obama comes up with Joe Andrew no big deal. Now the big one for Obama to come out with would be Howard Dean, the current party chair’s endorsement — however, even though we all know that Howard would walk through fire to get Obama the nomination — he ain’t talkin.

Obama is at best a copycat and at worst — nothing more than a lazy guy who knows the fat cats who seem to be able to get him anything he wants.

Comment by Catriley | 2008-05-01 13:21:13

That’s why Rep. Lois Capps son-in-law and Obama spokesman, Bill Burton, released the press release about her endorsement, yesterday. It’s a rainy day thing. Everyone KNEW she was going to do that.. considering she lives with Burton and her daughter in the house she helped them to buy. So in that case there was no swaying, though the media would do well to point out that familial factoid.

Andrew? Who knows WTF he’s doing… Donations from Obama’s PAC perhaps? That’s the dirty little secret that is not talked about enough on the MSM, the fact that Obama’s billionaire friends have fattened the wallets of the Super Delegates to a very obscene amount.

Comment by DCDemocrat | 2008-05-01 11:22:05

Yes, it struck me this morning that what I might say about Mr. Andrews’s judgment, I would not credit him with an impeccable sense of timing.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-01 12:07:12

he was already in the tank. they called him forward especially after someone promised him something. of course he’ll never get it because obama will lose the ge and howard and his band of idiots will be replaced.

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-05-01 12:24:34

Then after his knife in the back was met with silence from the Clinton campaign good ol Joe says the following:

In an interview with ABC News, Andrew says he knows what’s coming from his friends at the Clinton campaign. He anticipates the Clinton campaign “will use the same words and the same language to attack me that Republicans used to attack me when I was DNC chair and I was defending Bill Clinton.”

“I say this as a longtime participant in old politics,” he says. “I’ve sparred with everyone from Lee Atwater to Karl Rove. . . .The same words will come out of the [Clinton campaign’s] surrogates’ mouths to attack me that the Republicans used — and that demonstrates the very hypocrisy of the old politics,” he says.

Sounds like this clown is all upset that no one is paying any attention to him, so he picks a fight with himself. What a jerk!

Comment by jeff,s Dad | 2008-05-01 12:25:16

This little orchestrated stunt by Axelrod-Gibbs to trot out Joseph Andrew is beyond pathetic. As we’ve seen all along during the past two months, whenever another crisis hits the Obama campaign, instead of showing real leadership and taking personal responsibility for their mistakes, they attack Hillary and trot out another lame endorsement that they’ve put on hold. The whole thing reeks of desperation.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-05-01 12:40:26

Another attempt from Obama to buy himself some love after a rotten 6 weeks. I find it a real bore. What does bother me is the heavy handed way the Obama people are acting in NC.

Obama tries too hard to get people he can’t
stand to love him. And now his desperation is showing. I think the electorate is getting tired of Mr. Hopey/Hatey.

Comment by hillarysmygirl | 2008-05-01 14:07:43

Hopey/Hatey!! That’s a good one, I’m using it now.

The only reason they pulled this little stunt today is because, like other people have mentioned here, they’re running SCARED! I’ll personally buy O-babylamb and Michelle some new Nikes so they can run faster, since they can’t even afford piano lessons for their daughters…waaaaaaaa!

I just got off the phone from a Bohead from Chapel Hill (an AA) who told me that BO throwing Rev Wright under the bus has changed his mind about BO.
I have been telling him since this time last year that he had no diversity on his team nationally (headquarter here in Chicago)and he did not give a darn about anyone but himself and his own ambition. Finally after a year of slamming down the phone on my friend of over 20 plus years, he invited me to a party in CA their doing in May. HRC’s people here told me in February that my friends would come back and they were right and they are Black.

Right, until she voted for the Iraq War, voted for the credit card bankruptcy bill…

You know, the trolls are in integral part of winning, in that they’re used against themselves, and their candidate, or cause, but they can’t figure it out.

But I understand the nuisance factor.

If they didn’t troll, they wouldn’t be manipulated, now, would they?

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-01 12:39:06

It never ceases to amaze me how it is that apparently only Hillary and Bush wanted the Iraq war when you listen to the trolls. Doesn’t that strike you as odd? And when you add that to how little Barack Obama actually DID for the anti war movement, the profound feeling I get is usually, is that all you got? When was that 6 years ago? How have you voted recently? How many of your committee meetings have you held?

Comment by MessyMarcy | 2008-05-01 12:53:32

I’ve never understood how the Obama campaign thinks it in any way helps their cause to pay trolls to come to these websites; it seems sort of like trash-talking at a basketball game, and you’d think that Obama, being almost fifty years old, would have outgrown that sort of thing by now.

One thing you can count on, though, is that when things are going bad over at Obamanation, the Obamatrolls will show up in droves and be even crankier than usual. So, rather than the nuisance they are trying to be, they really are an indication of Hillary’s success — if they were as sure of victory as they like to pretend, they wouldn’t bother with us, they’d just be sitting around contemplating the wonderfulness of their dear leader.

And DC Democrat, your comment above about timing is really true — it’s like Andrew is actually jumping ONTO a sinking ship.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-01 12:09:56

jeff there must be a toilet nearby by where you can dunk your head and clear it.

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-05-01 12:28:25

I think we need a better class of troll. That last bit from this one was pretty lame even from him.

My question is always; who did you vote for in 2004? If you voted for John Kerry, then shut the fu*k up about how Hillary Clinton voted. If you didn’t vote for Kerry, then you’re a Conservative troll so then just shut the fu*k up anyway.

Comment by MessyMarcy | 2008-05-01 12:59:10

Marge, we keep asking for the good ones; but after all this time, I think we’ll just have to accept that, sadly, this is as good as it gets for Obamatrolls.

Let your bosses know you’re doing a pretty bad job of it, they might want to reassign you to draw mustaches on Hillary’s posters or something. You know, something that doesn’t require people skills. Cuz you sound like a broken record.

Thank so much, btw, for pointing out that Hillary single-handedly started the war in Iraq. I could have sworn that Kerry and other Obama supporters also voted with Hillary. Ah.. and then Mr. I Made A Speech then funded the war like a sheep.

Brilliant. He was against it before he was for it.

Comment by Mary | 2008-05-01 18:53:03

How would you have voted> The country was scared about the 9-11 attack. All who voted to give bush the power if he needed it said that they did what they did at the time because it seemed right. Twenty twenty hind sight is good, but not helpful.. obama didn’t vote because he was not a senator and even he said he doesn’t know how he would have voted. But he would have probably just voted present, like he always does, since he is afraid to take a stand an any thing important.

Obama wrote in “Dreams of My Father” that “I learned to slip back and forth between my black and white worlds…one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled…such a well-mannered young black man.” Yesterday, Obama said,”I did not vet my pastor.” For a man to suggest “words matter,” I am more skeptical of Obama and his “political posturing” then ever before. While I credit him for his “eloquence” I believe his platitudes are motivated by a cunning politician.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-05-01 12:46:49

Thats great news but not unexpected. The AA’s have been used by Obama to feather his own nest. I too, believe the Wright thing has brought this out. Obama hangs with Wright for 20 years. His books show that Obama feels the same anger as Wright and yet he throws Wright and the AA church going community under a bus to save his own ass.

Its the old old story. To thine own self be true and it shall follow as the night the day — thou canst not then be false to any man.

They did the sign war here too. Me and my husband went out in the wee morning hours and planted Hillary signs on Highways as the days past slowly but surely they were gone.

If you get a moment today try and make one call to the DNC about Superdelegate Joe Andrew. We need to let the DNC that we will not let them and the SD’s control this election in an unfair way without an outcry. Hillary is up in the polls today and is beating McCain in the polls in the GE. States still haven’t voted and this is a very close election. While you are on the phone with them remind them they have to count FL and MI.

Andrews wrote in his letter that he is calling for “fellow superdelegates across the nation to heal the rift in our party and unite behind Barack Obama.”

Sign wars don’t play well in Middle America. Only white Republicans can pull that off without a generating an immediate and furious backlash.

Patsy is tough. She’s a leader!

At one point her website appeared to have been hacked — but she won that battle.

She knows that Hillary Clinton will do right by the Vets.

Obama? Who know what the hell he really know or even thinks about our Nation’s Vets? Obama was too lazy to even hold committee hearings — NATO — related — which involve our military in Afghanistan. (I know, singing to the choir.)

“young white men making lewd gestures”

those are probably the same people destroying signs. drunk frat boys who hate women and who are in denial about their white privilege taking out their suburban frustrations on hillary supporters. they are thugs.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-05-01 11:30:57

Right, the haters are really in denial about their sexuality, self haters.

I truly believe it.

Sexuality, and death are supposed to drive most behavior, we cope with our sexuality given our early environment, some of our parents were very open minded, and tolerant, had healthy attitudes regarding sexuality, others weren’t (speaking of brainwashing a kid, yow!) I say this in general, I have no academic studies to back me up, it’s just a personal observation after watching these guys…

Anyway, it would be my best guess haters feel, underneath it all, sex is icky, but sex with a guy?

Ewwwwwwwwwwww.

Comment by chatsauvage | 2008-05-01 11:35:09

you are exactly right. they know they are vulnerable, and they know they are in denial about their sexuality and their privilege. And they always enact violence against the mother in their failed attempts to attain a full Oedipalization.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-05-01 12:06:12

And the father is always absent, even when he’s there, it is the absolute lack of a male role model, a mature male role model, teaching them to be human, properly socialized in a highly complex world.

So many factors are present, but really, with those people, it comes down to, “sex is icky,” and “my parents didn’t love me.”

This is all very general, btw, it’s certainly more intricate.

Obama does not attract a good class of supporters. Look at Randi Rhodes calling Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton F’n Whores. Randi did this at an Obama fundraiser but Obama said nothing. I guess he would have if it burned his ass. Cause thats the only time he reacts.

Oddly enough, any of us who marched against the War in 2003 remembers those same frat boys harrassing us with lewd gestures and threats. Same guys, different fad. I know this for a fact as the University near where were protesting was full of the obnoxious white boyz driving around the march harrassing us, and that same school now is filled with angry white obamatrons. Same demographic, same school, different fad.

Obama is seeing his support slip because these guys cannot keep that enthusiasm up. Those types of “voters” are just in it for the fun circle-jerk aspect. Doesnt’ translate in the GE.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-05-01 13:48:40

Can’t keep up the enthusiasm? Something tells me that’s not all they can’t keep up, which might explain the anger.

LOL!

Someone said here, a few months ago, that crushes don’t last long, and since the school year’s almost over, they’re starting to lose their focus. Summer’s coming and then we’re on to the next fad. By the time November’s here, it’ll be Obama Who?

I believe that the ravings of KO and the gang can be attributed to three four things:

viagra
cialis
levitra
not getting any

Susan, Rev Wright is indeed a big problem for Barack Obama. But I firmly believe that Obama’s biggest problem is Obama. The ethical compromises he has constantly made, from the very beginning of his political career are all coming back to bite him.

OT……THE MICHIGAN/FLORIDA PEOPLE ARE MAD AND ARE GOING TO MARCH AND CLOSE DOWN THE CONVENTION FROM WHAT I AM HEARING AND FROM WHAT I JUST HEARD ON THE RADIO AND RUSH L. CONTACTED SALAZARS OFFICE TODAY AND TOLD HIM THE CONVENTION WILL BE SHUT DOWN. CAN WE GET THIS CONFIRMED?????

Comment by Patrick Walker | 2008-05-01 11:35:14

The Recreate ‘68 group is already going to shut the convention down unless Obama gets the nomination.

MI and FL delegates won’t have to do anything to shut the convention down.

Just have the senior citizens go to Denver, rent cars, get in front of Obama’s kids, driving 20 mph while refusing to let them pass, and after a few hours of this, well, Obama’s team will be begging for relief.

The teamsters use this very same method, don’t they?

lol,,,,u gave me my first laugh of the day

Comment by simon, too | 2008-05-01 12:14:07

We speak of all these kids, and running around so dangerously, and arrogantly, and so many of our parents, or grandparents, due to age, have seen it all, they simply will not tolerate this behavior, and why should they?

And if they can put it in perspective, easily, so can we.

We speak of the problems Cheney and Bush have caused with their reckless, obtuse arrogance, for this country and our government, the world, I think of what England has endured over the centuries.

And I’ve noticed the one thing that kept England vital all these years was it’s ability to increase the freedoms it gave to it’s people, from the Magna Carta, to Elizabeth the first, and so on.

So it’s a lesson, to me, and a model, of sorts, England, to me anyway, has produced some of the finest thinking, ever.

Music and literature, too.

I guess one follows the other.

Don’t forget to make the Seniors leave the turn signal on as they drive down the street.

just depends on who gets there first. let the tv show joe sixpack fighting for what’s his. that’ll sure impress the voters with what lying tools the dims have become.

I am in Colorado. I campaigned here for Salazar, Feeley and Clinton and I am telling you the convention will be fine.

Recreate 68 is a joke. Don’t let them scare you.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks, CoYoungDem! I’m sure it will be fine, too. Howard Dean had his lunch money stolen one too many times and is permanently scarred. He can’t handle bullies and their scare tactics.

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s lethal to piss off a bunch of senior citizens.

I’m not kidding, Dean should not have antagonized FL.

And most of those FL ’snowbirds” come form MI.

Or New Jersey.
