Thanks for the good reply, Glenn. I'll look into that today. If you see this, and are able, could you point me toward some reliable reporting about the details of the Donnie McClurkin appearances and Obama's words and demeanor upon following him on stage? I'm open to being disappointed, believe it or not. I do believe that Obama has spoken about gay rights in black churches. I'm not sure where exactly in Texas this video was taken, but this is the kind of rhetoric I love from him:

http://www.towleroad.com/2008/02/barack-obama-te.html

Rev. Wright is gay friendly. I think that's one reason Obama stayed.

http://www.washingtonblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=17266

I know that in the super-nervous, typically ultra-vetted world of Presidential politics, specifically on the mainstream liberal/PC side, it's a radical notion, but having someone like McClurkin come on stage, and then following him with the candidate himself clearly approving of gay rights, strikes me as a very effective aproach in certain situations. It's open to wholesale media-based attack and distance-misunderstanding, and even 1000% legitimate umbrage, but in the realm of "retail" interaction, it strikes me as OK. Even necessary.

Whether its a good way to get elected in 2008 is another question. One thing that worries me about the Obama movement is that it could open the door for a right-winger to come on the scene and be forgiven by his base-and-then-some for his questionable associations. Although, really, that already happens every time with the GOP. Turnabout (to the side of the angels) is fair play.

Part of me really just wants Obama to come out and say "this is what I have always done, around the world, at fairly conservative Chicago Law School, in my government positions, in my life, and it's what we can all do: we can take some amount of time to listen and speak to everyone who shows us some level of good will toward humanity within the totality of their actions, even if they have anger toward some, or many, and give them room to be themselves within the bounds of decency, and those boundaries change according to context, and it's hard to always explain to everyone what's going on, but we really can make it clear enough to folks by appealing to, and utilizing, the best of American and Christian and Jewish and Muslim and Conservative and Liberal traditions, taking what is there that shows love for living things, and rejecting what does not, and... and.." -- well, I'm not sure how to say it. Hopefully you know what I'm saying. Maybe it's a terrible idea. Total political suicide. I think its humane, and something that needs to be put forth and legitimized, somehow, because the rejection of that idea is the rejection of humanity.

Oh, yeah, and... We are the ones We've been waiting for. ;)

Jeremy, Were you around at the beginning of Obama's campaign when he made his "Gospel Tour" of black churches throughout America kicking off his presidential campaign?
That kick-off included, and promoted gospel singer, ex-gay, anti-gay zealot, Donnie McClirken. During the church rallys, ole Donnie, with Obama standing just off-stage, delivered talk after talk, thanking the lord and the gospel for delivering him from the evils of homosexuality. This was repeated over and over until some began to take notice. That is my first exposure to Mr. Obama and I will never forgive him for it. The gay community has worked hard to do outreach to black churches, especially in regard to AIDS education since the AA community has been hit so hard by the virus. There had previously been alot of resistence since AIDS was considered by many black churches to be a gay disease, therefore a result of that particular sin, until so many women and children of color began disproportianately getting exposed also.

I didn't lie. I wrote what I thought to be possible. Does posting 2 1/2 comments (plus an accidental double) in opposition to the majority make me a troll?

Well, I really did make a misstatement in my first comment. And I'm sorry: I should have written "Scratch SOME Obama haters..." Which itself is a harsh statement, but Uppity's "savages" comment deserved a push-back. I'm also not a fan of calling him Barry.. or OBAMMIE (below). Infantalizing a grown black man (even to make some point that he's new on the national scene, which often doesn't seem to be the point) is no more worthy than calling Hillary any number of not-so-subtly anti-woman things. It's all beneath us.

Basically, my own feeling is that to "hate" Barack one needs a very strong and personal argument, or racism, just as to "hate" Hillary (which I made clear I don't) one needs a very strong personal argument, or sexism. My longer comment outlined a few of my relevant feelings about Hillary Clinton. A response in kind is fine by me.

Maybe folks reacted strongly to my mention of Bill's personal lapse. I understand that.

I wish I could decipher more of Marle's comment; I agree that some of Obama's moves around gay visibility have been disappointing. I simply believe that he has a deeper sympathy than Hillary does, although it's not actually provable by me. I do think its generational, and also comes from being a fellow minority (and Hawaiian!). What follows is that it's believable that Hillary will be better on this than Bill was. Actually, I should be more clear: I do believe she will be better than Bill was. I myself haven't actually seen much evidence of this, but I don't believe that means its not there. Honestly, I can't point to concrete evidence in favor of Obama here, either. I know can be called cold comfort, but he has made many gay-friendly rhetorical points when he didn't have to, at emotional high-points in his speeches, often adding strong mentions of gay rights into speeches apparently extemporaneously. (It simply is a bigger deal when a man who identifies as African-American speaks up on this, more so than when a white woman does.) I think he will be a better advocate here. I do think she will help.

As to the apparently strong possibility that the Kantor video was posted by an Obama supporter... I'm ashamed of that. It's horrible. It's horrible. It's horrible.

Thanks for reading.

I think a lot of them just want to vote for a black guy, to somehow right all the wrongs that have been done to AAs. They can't get much past that.

I guess one psychological mechanism you could posit is women as savers of the downtrodden and the underdog. I think BO definitely takes advantage of that. Notice his oft-used hangdog expression? Sad eyes? Lowered voice? Bet he uses it on Michelle all the time when she is about to beat the shit out of him.

This is from Marriage and Family research -- the S & M is the psychological variety. The dynamics of this sort of relationship is very complex -- and often you don't pick it up right away.

I'm trying to find the psychological mechanism that would make Obama an attractive candidate to women -- even when he is so obvious about his sexism.

THEY'VE FOUND THE PUNK WHO POSTED THE VIDEO!!! His name is Jamal Miles Boone, and he had help in distributing this thing to the media from other OBAMA champions at DAILY KOS!!!

Get a load of THIS: http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/5/4/03345/32941

<blockquote><strong>Style6919 - You Tube friend of Dcusseaux, who subscribes to BingoFrogger, JedReport, and the person who uploaded The War Room. Only subscribes to barackobama.com. Big fan of Obama...he posted lots of nice videos. Has lots and lots of favorites - pro-Obama and anti-Hillary videos...

And he left his calling card - http://wholesaleleatherstore.com/barack. html. If you go there, you see lots of videos, but I am more interested in the WHOIS information for this site:

J Miles B Productions
Venice, CA

Google is our best friend now - that first link says "Jamal Boone is President of J Miles B Productions" - the third link goes to here, and when we click on the link for J Miles B productions, we get this:

J Miles B Productions
Production of Movies Music and Videos.

I believe that Jamal Boone of Venice, CA, is our culprit. I'll eat crow if I am wrong, but clearly there are strong connections between Jamal Boone, JedReport, other mysterious names, Politikewl, and disturbing connections to barackobama.com.

Thank you for reading, and please let me know if you have any questions. Like I said upfront, this is my last diary on the subject, because my research should be complete...but I reserve the right to find new dirt lol.</strong></blockquote>

Looks like it WAS from those rabid nitwits at "TEAM OBAMA." Is this what they call HOPE? I guess all those chants are all about YES WE CAN .... LIE, CHEAT and STEAL our way to the Oval Office!

What a bunch of sleazy punks, I hope Kantor sues their short pants off!
