UNDER THE BUS
By Pat Racimora on May 3, 2008 at 4:29 PM in Alice Palmer, Barack Obama, Chicago politics, Religion, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., Small town America, Typical white person
Perched on a picnic bench his week in Indiana, Michelle Obama asked the gathering to judge her husband based solely by the “choices he has made and his values.” Good directive, so I got started.
1. In his landmark speech in Philadelphia, he chose to say that Reverend Wright, his pastor of and counsel of 20 years, was family and that he could no more turn his back on Reverend Wright than he could on the Black community. But this week, after the bombastic Wright repeated his old rants in public forums (nothing new) Obama turned him into garbage.
2. He knows his grandmother loved him more than anything. So he described her as a “typical white person,” namely prejudiced and fearful of Blacks.
3. Alice Palmer, State Senator and Obama mentor, attempted to run again in 1996 to retain her position.
Obama relentlessly challenged the petition process and managed to push out all of his rivals, including Palmer. He ran as a candidate who would empower the powerless, but, as the Chicago Tribune put it (April 3, 2007), “The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.”
4. At a fundraiser on “Billionaires Row” in San Francisco, Obama described the very people he said he would rise up as “bitter” and as a result they clung to guns and religion as well as their prejudices against people who are different than they are.
Here are four major decisions where it was expedient for this so-called uniting hope and change candidate to reverse a commitment to an intimate ally, downgrade granny (and all of us Whites), pushed out a respected colleague, and insulted the very people who make up the majority of our citizens.
Now, how do I FEEL about these “choices” and “values” that Michelle Obama told me to go by? For me, feelings come out best in a cartoon.
Be careful. You still IN the bus may well be next.

My sister says her fondest wish is that Obama will lose the nomination to Hillary. Her second fondest wish is that Alice Palmer will then run against him in the next election and get his Senate seat.
I hope your sister gets her wish.
Me, too.
Ohio voters felt pushed under the bus when the Obama staffer told Canada the promises he made were just rhetoric.
The press should’ve felt pushed under the bus when Obama lied in their faces and told them nobody from his campaign contacted Canada.
If Hillary had pulled that, we would still be hearing about it.
What he did to Palmer is a HUGE red flag about his character.
I will donate to Alice’s campaign!! Run Alice Run.
messy — its my fondest wish too.
Loved the drawing…..Very funny….Good Post.
Facta Non Verba !
( Actions speak louder than words ! )…..Indeed
When he first made those ‘bitter’ comments, one of his defenses was ‘well, its actually a true statement’. Now he goes on the Today Show and say he used the wrong words. Too inexperienced for POTUS, more like too inexperienced for being a candidate for POTUS.
He’s tried some four times now to reword that comment so the public will accept it.
Fact is, he meant exactly what he said. This was the first time I saw MSM really stop him from getting what he wanted. Tim Russert was about the only one who included the lead-in “they don’t want to hear this from a 46 year old black man named Barack Obama”. Obama was prepared to play that race card that works so well for him, but the media didn’t leave the card in the deck and he had to try to speak to a subject he wasn’t prepared for…his elitist arrogance and disdain for segments of the population.
Leaders of other nations will not be impressed by What Obama Really Meant. If his judgement is so good, why can’t he get it right the first time?
God forbid, should he EVER get to be POTUS, we must warn all dignitaries …never, ever, stand in front of the bus…
I love your cartoon…says volumns…cross post at DD…that will make them crazy…
Good job Pat.
The odds of that ever happening in this universe are maybe one in ten-trillion.
Simple, I think. If you have no teleprompter running a carefully crafted speech, you have to rely on what is in your brain. It slipped out!
I still think Wright coming out and Obama finally being outraged was a ploy.
Knowing it’s almost impossible to lose the nomination now, he set it up so that it can no longer be used against him with the Republicans.
He’s even said he will remain a member of the church. How could that be plausible under the circumstances unless the circumstances aren’t really what they appear to be?
I think the only way Superdelegates will even reconsider if Hillary were to win North Carolina and unfortunately, it’s virtually impossible.
I voted early yesterday here in NC and the two people in front of me were wwearing Obama stuff and were never asked for ID.
I pulled mine out when it was my turn and made it a point to announce that he should ask or it.
It’s really sad that the MSM picked the Democrat nominee.
I missed completely any sign of “outrage” from Obama. It looked like he was very irritated that the media was making him come out on the subject when he wouldn’t be able to turn it into a racist speech and avoid answering the question at hand.
He made sure he didn’t actually say the words that he denounced the man, but MSM gave him yet another free pass.
Any political move he would try to make has now been preempted, he is a cripple, as is Dean, and Pelosi.
Just like Bush, Cheney and Rove, no permanent political objective can be achieved.
So, big deal.
Funny, how they try to sell this PR garbage, not understanding or recognizing how they have given control of themselves, and their agendas, to someone else, by it’s very use, by the very “whatever it takes to win” amateurism that is a hallmark of Rove, and Axelrod.
No wonder they are the objects of such contempt and scorn, the wannabees.
He’s coasting. Another sign of a lazy man.
So a busload of us could have gone to NC polling place to vote without an ID? This is wrong!
They need to keep a close eye on those polling places.
Obama has bus loads of people he seems to be busing in when he needs them. Do we have someone at the polls watching what is going on. If not, Obama will surely come out ahead if no one is asking for ID. I wonder if the volunteer that was suppose to be checking ID was an Obama devotee.
These busloads are Obama employees of Move-on.org. Many are not old enough to vote. They have been traveling the country by bus and storming the caucuses. They are involved in voter fraud and suppression. Your observation is probably correct. The person supposed to check ID is probably one of Obama employees. Someone needs to notify Hill campaign.
This is the reason open primaries and voting without ID should be banned.
Can you notify the campaign of what you saw?
email will do.
Hillary lost Guam by 7 total votes today. They need to do a recount.
The msm and the dnc. dean, pelosi and reid should be drummed out of office!
I disagree that Wright did this for Obama. What this has done is opened up Obama to more attacks about his relationship with the Reverend and whether its true that they both believed in Black Liberation Theology which is really scary. Sean Hannity talked about this on his program yesterday.
This also has started a dialog about Obama’s other pals such as Ayers. I have heard Auchi and Kahlidi mentioned. Its seems Obama is very comfortable with people who hate America. Wright opened the door to this dialog but he is only the tip of the iceberg. If the campaign believed this would help them — they were dead wrong.
Wait a minute.. NO ID?? Is the Obama campaign up to something funny AGAIN?
All talk, and no walk-that’s Obama! Does Michelle really want us to judge Obama based on his “choices” and “values”? Silly lady.
Expand a bit on #3, and it begs the question how someone of so little political know-how managed to accomplish that.
The relationship between Wright and Obama seems to be founded in connections that would propel Obama forward to serve …???
I have been suspicious of Obama’s use of racism to explain his connection to Wright from the very beginning. He STILL isn’t telling us what kind of glue was being used to bond him so tightly to Wright and his church. If he had to change the subject, what is he hiding?
He still hasn’t detached himself from Wright, not through his latest speeches, he hasn’t. And, Michelle defiantly refuses to answer questions about the break up of their family and Wright. I don’t care what the media says…they also said he answered our questions with his speech on racism.
How come the media didn’t do a non-stop loop of the clips where Wright hinted he would take the VP slot on an Obama ticket? Or, the declaration that “Change, it is a comin’.” These are things I need much more information from Obama on. He knows what the Rev is talking about, and he’s proven time and again he is not going to tell us what that is.
Brand new exclusive video over at VillarrealSports.com
“Barack Obama, Islam, Terrorists & Terrorism”
Many of you will enjoy this work, but some will not. I am pretty certain of both of those things.
When you have a few moments (it’s 10 minutes long), please drop by, have a look, and let me know what you think:

The video is available for embedding should anyone choose to do so.
Three more working days until Tuesday (which is it’s own working day). Very excited for Hillary and her chances.
Take care, all.
Paul F. Villarreal AKA “Universal” AKA “RokSki”
Wasn’t new. Did you post it over at Republicans for Obama? I’m thinking you aren’t going to find too many “takers” here for it.
I had not seen it before.
But if Barky is the candidate, expect it to be viewe again and again and again. Actually, count on it!
When I first found out last Christmas what Obama did to Alice Palmer and the others on the ballot I could hardly breathe. I was so mad that I set out to dispel the myth about this unscrupulous vote stealer Obama.
I was so hoping for a fair vote but hey, it kept me lurking and gathering info on the caucuses and I hope I was one of the people who was instrumental in heading him off from stealing this election at the caucuses. Isn’t the net great? Look at a picture of Hillary’s rally crowd and imagine most of them getting shut out at the caucus polls. That’s alot of people who were told to wait in the parking lot until they call them inside, only to wait 3 hours before they got tired and went home. (While the caucuses were going on inside without them)
Another thing is that his ‘granny’ was a banker who made some pretty good money. She paid his way through school. Obamas wife’s father was an engineer for the Chicago City Water Bureau and made a very nice living while they lived in an upper middle class neighborhood. When they go on Tv and say they come from very humble beginnings and that they had it hard they make me so mad. They both had it better than most Americans of that time and era.
They can lie all they want. My frustration is that the MSM doesn’t call them out on it. Any attempt to get the truth into the media comes back with accusations of racism.
This would not be the case if he was running against John McCain.
First, they know that the HRC supporters not interested in supporting Barky are not going to be surprised. Coming from the people who swift boated a Viet Nam hero, this will be a cake walk.
He’s a man of no character. Besides, to him she was just a woman.
The states of Florida and Michigan should be lying on the ground next to Baracks grandmother!
Amen to that!
Good point.
Great cartoon, Pat. I love the Rev especially - very true-to-life! I worry that there are a lot of Americans standing in front of this careening bus, but I have a feeling that’s he’s going to get dragged out of the driver’s seat very soon, and they will be a little shaken up, but basically unharmed.
MessyMarcy: My sister says her fondest wish is that Obama will lose the nomination to Hillary. Her second fondest wish is that Alice Palmer will then run against him in the next election and get his Senate seat.
Humiliations galore! (From The Princess Bride, for those not familiar
Tricia: I think the only way Superdelegates will even reconsider if Hillary were to win North Carolina and unfortunately, it’s virtually impossible.
Nothing’s impossible, when you have someone with Hillary’s great intellect, courage and energy on our side. It’s not over ’til it’s over, and it ain’t over! I heard Wright is speaking for an hour somewhere on Sunday, and that might just put the final nail in Gutter Ball’s political coffin.
I have a very difficult time justifying this latest trend of “she can’t win.”
It appears to be the same old shit, from the same old people.
Is this supposed ot be new, and creative?
Poor things, it’s so LAME.
I think it’s a preemptive strike on sadness. You know, if you kind of let yourself down now, then it won’t be so bad later, if what you fear comes to pass.
I wouldn’t blame anyone for it, since we get hit all day long from every freakin’ angle by people saying “Hillary get out!” “Hillary can’t win!” “Hillary is the anti-Christ!” I can see why some people would just want to step away from that and imagine it’s over now.
She didn’t lose though, and the greater objective was to cripple Obama, and that has been done.
So why would anyone feel sad?
Bush accomplished nothing, Obama is a weak cripple, is SEEN by the public as being a weak cripple, a stupid weak puss* cripple, capable of being pushed around by women, both his wife, and Clinton, and McCain, well, who knows?
So I’d say the people did very well.
Have to disagree, anyway, given pattern, I see it more as a new troll, a new form of “she can’t win” from team moron medicore wannabe puss*.
Clinton is doing well in IN, and NC is fairing FAR better than expected, for her.
So what is the rationale?
Other than troll?
Maybe it’s a woman thing, because we often don’t tuck our emotions away, but feel them very strongly. So the tendency could be to nip that helplessness that comes from not knowing in the bud, and just say it’s over now, and diminish disappointment later. That might be hard to relate to, as a man, since you guys seem to put emotional issues to the side a little more easily. This is just based on my limited experience.
Boy, I hope I’m not opening myself up to bombardment here :-). But, simon, I know of someone here that is TOTALLY for Hillary, but she expressed at one point that it was over and done for Hill. It’s definitely not limited to trolls.
“So why would anyone feel sad?”
Well I’m kind of sad about the biased media coverage and the ignorance of many Democrats. Also I’m sad about people like Howard Dean that don’t seem to recognize what an experienced and talented leader she is. And I’m sad because she’s making history for women, breaking records all over the place and that is not even acknowledged. Instead of being able to celebrate this success, we’re subjected to constant Hillary bashing.
Fortunately Hillary doesn’t let any of these things discourage her. But many of us are torn somewhere between wanting to bloody some pundits nose to throwing our hands up in despair because it’s so hugely stacked against her. But I have faith in Hillary Clinton. She’s already leading this country with her strength and tenacity.
Hillary is far from being a wuss. She’s running because the country is in trouble. Bill told her if not her then who will fix this mess. Then she threw her hat in the ring. Hillary is way past the Hormone issue. She’s 60 and they say women gain more energy and focus after the hormone thing stops.
Bill says that anytime they start calling for Hillary to get out of the race or that she can’t win, is when she is winning! He says it in his stump speeches and he’s right!
The reason this staunch Dem can’t vote for Obama in the general is that I am in no mood to be hammered over the head with racism ploys for 4 years.
God no!
Buchanan predicts Hillary will have an upset in NC.
I know, and I have to disbelieve myself, here, as I think the AA drone vote will go for Obama, unfortunately, but for the voters who might otherwise go for McCain, in the general, Hillary is, IMO, making inroads.
And that is a very very good thing.
If McCain were to run an honest campagin, (heh, I know) I can’t see anyone getting in his way.
You fight fair, it’s best for everyone, win-win, esp the American people.
But you know, it’s the Obama-Rove type PR garbage that has to go.
But isn’t NC full of conservatives; how can it be Obama could win NC by double digits (or high single digits). Does it mean that more than 60% of the voters on Tuesday wwould by AA ?
Does anyone understand the demographics that will be at play on Tue. in NC ?
Good point, the NY Times had an article on this today:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/03/us/politics/03crossover.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1209855676-7MmlLpLa9pHER53Ilp/UWQ
And given Rove’s Tao of dirty tricks, I don’t believe it’s anything but a simplistic, ordinary push to help McCain, in the general.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/03/us/politics/03crossover.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1209855676-7MmlLpLa9pHER53Ilp/UWQ
New York Times has a good article on this, today.
I don’t really have a firm handle on the demographics, but I just heard on CBS News that BO is only ahead of our Hill by a few points! I guess I could go look up some demographics…
Don’t know if this will be of any help, but it’s interesting:
“In 2007, the U.S. Census estimated that the racial makeup of North Carolina was as follows: 70% White American, 22.3% African-American, 1.2% American Indian, and the remaining 6.5% are Hispanic or Latino (of any race). North Carolina has historically been a rural state, with most of the population living on farms or in small towns. However, over the last 30 years the state has undergone rapid urbanization, and today most of North Carolina’s residents live in urban and suburban areas, as is the case in most of the United States. In particular, the cities of Charlotte and Raleigh have become major urban centers, with large, diverse, mainly affluent and rapidly growing populations. Most of this growth in diversity has been fueled by immigrants from Latin America, India, and Southeast Asia.[22] In addition, large numbers of people from the Northeastern United States and Florida have moved to the state in recent years, further swelling the population.”

“pssssst…..I see white people…..”
Barry to Michelle every morning they go out on the trail.
And now they don’t have “Reverend” Wright to tell them what to think any more. I sense gaskets about to blow…
I picture exploding penguins on top of the telly….
I think she will win both and folks will not put up with any shenanigans post primary in either state….
I can’t wait…
Here’s your exploding penguin (my favorite part is between 3:22 and 3:37)!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnObI25aN1k
Oh that was great….Thanks for the chuckle truth….
All I kept hearing was Barry queen of snots !
Barry queen of snots !……Truly inspiring….No ?
Good God, that’s what we should call him from now on! It’s a little long, but perfectly encapsulates him and his followers (ewwww).
Hmmmm…..BARRY QUEEN OF SNOTS….sounds good and the abbreviation would be……your turn….
I don’t think that McCain has much “lowering” of stanards to do in order to campaign on the same subterranean level as the Obama/Axelrove team. If there could be a sleezier group of DEMOCRATS, I’ve never seen them!
It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I really like what Buchanan has to say.
Just because Buchanan is obnoxious, that doesn’t mean that he can’t get something right occasionally. He just doesn’t do it very often.
Pat is an old style POL….Obama and what he stands for and his caqmpaign scares the bejeeeeezus out of Pat. He likes status quo politics.
I listen to him, I don’t agree with him, politically, and sometimes I think he’s out there, but when he nails it, he nails it.
Well he is WAAAAYYY OUT THERE ideologically speaking….
But his political analysis is adept……Man has seen a lot…..
I listen to him for that…….It’s always important to keep a heads up on the opposition…..No ?
Well I think he is right….I said I thought she would take both IN and NC when the good pastor Wright started babbling…..I’ve lived in IN and it is conservative, they do not like Chicago shit. I think NC will go the way of their neighbor….Farmers love both Clintons…..
Absolutely agreed… it’s not over! Definately an upset coming. Some AA’s are no longer tickled pink by BO. Hill’s gaining in youth vote too.
It became a bit obvious in PA that Obama’s youth support didn’t show up at the polls. Not old enough to vote, maybe.
I demand more camera time for Michelle! It is RACIST
not to let her speak LIVE to the American people.
I demand she be allowed to speak without a script, without stage lighting, without people ready to throw a bag over her head and drag her off. Let Michelle speak! And let the Rev. Wright speak.
How dare they remove his stage just because The Chosen One has taken his gaze of glory from the Rev’s
doting face. Let Wright have camera time. It is RACIST not to give him camera time.
Actually, I’ve just been on the phone with Obama’s
I’ve-Got-An-Excuse speech writer. He wanted to try out the first lines on me:
(Cue Obama…walk seriously (very seriously) to the podium.. Stop. Turn right and salute 14,000 flags behind podium. Face audience. Look somber.)
“It is with a heavy heart I come before the American people. People who have shown me the warmth of the American spirit, the strength of American ideals,
the resilience of the American Dream. I owe you all much.. A debt I can never hope to repay. But now, it is time for me to graciously bow out and support”
Oh SHIT… sorry wrong speech. Oh man, forget that one. This is the right one…Shoot…it’s a good thing that won’t get any media coverage, ‘eh?
This is the RIGHT speech:
“I can no more turn my back on Bernadine Dohrn and
Bill Ayers, who bombed the Pentagon and the private homes of citizens, who bombed court houses and private industries, who gleefully revelled in endless human suffering, and who are unrepentent- and yes- still motivated to do the same today; I can no more deny these two people than I can disown my
own daughter/punishment (?) for having taken a piece of ten cent candy and forgetting to pay for it six years ago.”
Pesonally, I still think it might need a little work… but delivered with the right cadence and if Obama wears the right black suit…maybe.
oops I should have put a “Warning: Satire” on my post.
The problem with this speech is that most Obama supporters will swoon and say how fantastic it is that he can be friends with the likes of Ayers and Dohrn. That only Obama can bridge the gap between law abiding citizens and terrorists!
I agree…Lets hear more from Meeeeeeeechelle……She has so much to say and it is so good for Barry…….LOL
Freakin’ hilarious! I especially loved “salute 14,000 flags behind podium…”
Except that saluting American flags may be against his religion…
Hill’s gaining with the Republican women vote
She can win. She will win. She is out there campaigning her heart out and as folks meet her they are impressed with her presence, intelligence, humour, and command of the issues. It is going to be very, very interesting to see what all the folks do with their votes on the 6th.
Upset with a capital U.
I have a hunch Jenna Bush will vote for Hill. Jenna has a Dem soul.
Bad omen from the Kentucky derby. Big Brown won and the filly came is second and they shot her.
please, it meant nothing. When the redsox won their 1st WS in ‘04, I thought wow the curse was broken and Kerry would win too. NOT
I am not only not in the bus, I am staying off the street. This guy is a train wreck waiting to happen. The bus stuff is but a prelude.
Flineo says it all here!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udUBIArW7rk
Thanks so much for posting that, Mel. Hillary is so…well, I was going to say “precious,” but I will substitute “magnificent”!
I didn’t know John Lennon did a cover of “Stand By Me.”
This is a ‘clippeded’ report of Black Agenda Report, please read the whole thing.
http://www.blackagendareport.com/index.php
by BAR executive editor Glen Ford
The world views of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Sen. Barack Obama were incompatible from the start, just as the mythical American Manifest Destiny world view is directly at odds with the facts as perceived by Blacks in the United States. Wright finally forced Obama to choose sides in the conflict ofRevWrightObamaWOrried racial/historical visions, and in doing so, performed a service on behalf of clarity. Obama lashed out in a startlingly personal manner, calling Wright a “caricature” of himself and linking the minister to forces that give “comfort to those who prey on hate.” Rev. Wright exposed the flimsy tissues of so-called “race neutrality” in a nation founded on racial oppression.
That day came on Tuesday, April 29, when a battered and (truly) bitter Barack Obama made his final, irrevocable break with his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whose televised Black Liberation Theology tour de force the preceding Friday, Sunday and Monday had laid bare the contradictions of Obama’s hopeless racial “neutrality.” It was the masterful preacher and seasoned political creature Wright - not the racists who had endlessly looped chopped snippets of the reverend’s past sermons together in an attempt to make him appear crazed - who forced Obama to choose in the push and pull of Black and white American worldviews. Obama was made to register his preference for the white racist version of truth over Rev. Wright’s, whose rejection of Euro-American mythology reflects prevailing African American perceptions, past and present.
I don’t know whether to laugh or throw up…..Oh Brother !
Credo quira absurdum est….
( I beleive it is because it is absud )
That “Black Agenda” excerpt does nothing to ring the truth bell for me.
Boy I apologize that was a dyslexic spasm…..chuckle….
hmmmmmmm ……
And yet …..
20 years in the pews …..
A book title taken from a sermon …..
I hate to disagree, but really, I must.
And the body counts keep growing. Who will be next?
the AA community is next.
I agree with you, and that’s too bad…
Simon, too,(mosinoto) again, in hopes of avoiding the spam filter, I’ve decided to turn Japanese.
For the moment…
The AA community is already grumbling about him.. Well at least according to the dude on msnbc.. They are having a special on Obama and Wright..
Better that they find out what he is about now than later. He will leave them behind just like his forgotten poor desperate AA’s in his precinct of South Chicago. That’s bites hard.
“It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I really like what Buchanan has to say.”
Buchanan was right about the Iraq war (though mainly because he’s a total isolationist).
Don’t forget, the Dail Kos belongs under the bus too.
Pat has been totally fair to Hillary when I’ve seen him on the air. In fact, he has defended her, not her views per se, but defended her against the scurrilous attacks from the Obama propaganda machine.
