Patrick and Obama: Promises Really Are “Just Words”

In spite of the fact that Ted Kennedy dragged his substantial butt all over Massachusetts for him, in spite of the fact that John Swiftboat Kerry insisted he was The One, and in spite of Ted’s efforts to trot out as many Kennedys as possible, the State of Massachusetts told Barack Obama to take a hike on their Primary Day.

Did you ever wonder why?

For starters, Massachussets, or “Massatoosits,”as Obama calls them, recognized the warmed-over rhetoric of their own Axelrod media creation, the Sensational Deval Patrick. We have all seen plenty of videos of both men’s almost exact astoundingly similar rally cries. The problem was that people in Massachusetts fell for Governor Patrick’s bull and elected him–with many hindsight regrets.

On Primary Day, the people of Massachusetts must have been laughing all the way to the polls that day, wondering just exactly how stupid America has to be to fall for a candidate who was unashamedly using Deval Patrick’s Monarch Notes for both his rally call and a campaign platform.

The Bluest State in the Country rejected Obama that day because, having stepped in it before, they recognized a pile of moose poop when they saw it. They recognized that “We are the change we have been waiting for” is just…….well…….just words.

No surprise to anybody who sees through catchy, mesmerizing rhetoric with precious few details, Deval Patrick is a dismal disappointment to Massachusetts. His flowery speeches and promises have turned out to be Just Words as, issue by issue, Patrick has proven to be either a coward or a liar - or inept.

But the two men differ in one critical area: Mr. Patrick has an executive record. And, unfortunately for the senator from Illinois, it reveals that the Patrick-Obama brand of politics isn’t really new. It is, in fact, something akin to the failed liberalism of old, in a new vessel.

I think it’s fair at this point to mention that Deval Patrick’s career was launched when he was appointed by the Clinton Administration as Assistant Attorney General to the Civil Rights Division. You know the Clinton Administration right? The suddenly “racist” administration that launched more careers for African Americans than all the other presidents combined?–including Donna Brazile, who now sprays mace in their face because a black man is running for office.

Massachusetts Democrats were all excited about this “Different” candidate, this “Historic” candidate, this candidate that was going to “change” things. His rhetoric soared. He asked people to “believe”. He eluded to people like JFK, RFK and MLK as if he and his “Words” belonged in in their league. Deval Patrick made plenty of Hope-y Change-y promises and the people of Massachusetts fell for it. They were going to get a new kind of leader, a different kind of politics. What they got instead was a wimp who caved in on every single issue he promised to address. In short, the dismal failure known as Deval Patrick helped Hillary Clinton, not only in the Massachusetts Primary, but in neighboring states that receive Boston News.

So what exactly did Deval Patrick do, or should I say not do, that made the people of Massachusetts not only wish they hadn’t fallen for his tripe, but also made them reject his obvious clone, Barack Obama?

Voters in Massachusetts had hoped Mr. Patrick’s reformist promises and appealing style would mean a makeover for a tired political culture that has long since stopped producing satisfactory results. Instead, they, along with voters in southern New Hampshire and northern Rhode Island (which receive Boston news), now seem wary of the Obama-Patrick connection. These areas turned out heavily for Hillary Clinton in the presidential primaries and helped her carry all three states.

Deval “Believe” Patrick not only wimped out on his promise for change, but he wimped out without so much as a fight, right from, if you will excuse the pun, Day One.

What the Bay State got, however, is a pedestrian liberal governor who is remarkably quick to retreat in the face of pressure from the status- quo.

Mr. Patrick’s first cave-in came just weeks after he was elected, and before he was even sworn into office. On the campaign trail he promised to cut $735 million in wasteful spending from the state budget. But when the Democratic Senate president rebuked him for it, the governor-elect backpedalled.

The Boston Globe summed up the wimped-out Patrick by seeing him as he really was: “Patrick backed off and said he didn’t really mean it.”

Another retreat came on a common sense issue that likely might have marked him as a true reformer had he made even a losing fight of it. Massachusetts is the only state that mandates that cops, not flagmen, direct traffic at road-construction sites. Earlier this spring, Mr. Patrick proposed loosening the requirement as a way to save taxpayers millions, but quickly recanted when the police union flooded the capitol with lobbyists. Within days, Mr. Patrick told listeners of his monthly radio show “the more I think about this, the less certain I am that we can fix this top down.”

Deval Hopey-Changey-Just-Words Patrick not only backed down but even worked to dismantle what good progress had been made before him, including opening teacher certification to just about anybody who wants it–in a State that has always been known for higher standards in teacher certifications. Not only that, but he apparently doesn’t think College Preparation programs in schools is all that and a bag of chips either.

Education may be the one area where Mr. Patrick could have done the most to demonstrate that he is indeed a new man of the left. Fifteen years ago, the state enacted strict testing requirements for both teachers and students and passed reforms that encourage the creation of charter schools. The Result:Massachusetts consistently places among the top performers on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Sticking by these bipartisan reforms – or even expanding them to help minority children in poor areas –
would seem to be an easy call.

But to the delight of education unions, Mr. Patrick instead appears to be laying the groundwork

to dismantle these reforms. He appointed antitesting zealot Ruth Kaplan to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, where she repaid his confidence recently by disparaging the college preparation emphasis of some charter schools. She said these schools set “some kids up for failure . . . Their families don’t always know what’s best for their children.”

To recap: Under Deval Patrick’s concept of Change, teachers who fail the certification test three times can teach anyways. All you would have to do for Deval is take that test three times even if you don’t have a clue what is required of you. Basically, Deval Patrick wimped out and told the State of Massachusetts to say goodbye to the State’s highest teaching standards.

Does anybody see a similarity in style and Hope-y Change-y promises here? Both claim that their ability to work with people coupled with their miraculous ability to persuade people to do the “right thing” is a major reason for you to “believe” in their “new kind of politics”. Both of them made the same speeches. In fact, both of them are practically the same lame man.

One characteristic of the Obama-Patrick brand of politics is the assertion that they can personally persuade disparate political leaders to reach a consensus. Mr. Patrick’s biggest test of this claim came this year when he proposed bringing jobs to the state by allowing casino gambling in Massachusetts. The proposal angered an odd alliance of liberals and social conservatives because gambling is a highly regressive (if voluntary) tax. And it ended in defeat for the governor.

The Bluest State Of All sees what so many of us also see. Barack Obama is a recycled Deval Patrick in both word and intent, and they will not fall for that tripe again.

What should trouble Mr. Obama the most is that the stirring rhetoric of Mr. Patrick’s 2006 campaign, now being recycled by the Illinois senator (at times, word for word), is no longer connecting with Massachusetts voters. A mid-April poll found that 56% of the state’s voters disapprove of the Governor’s performance. Even among left-leaning Democrats, more than four in 10 disapprove of Mr. Patrick.

In short, Barack Obama not only has future problems with Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio, but he has one with That Bluest State Of All. That is why Massachusetts will not be impressed in November, should he sadly become the Democratic Party’s nominee. But I suppose he can always depend on states he won, such as Mississippi, which hasn’t voted Democratic in a General Election since the 60s. Perhaps all the Republicans will stay home.

Good luck with that, Barack.

“When change reared its ugly head
Deval Patrick turned his tail and fled …”
And his clone (Obama) can be counted on to do the same.

Maybe I should break out my old T-shirt, the one that proclaims
“I’m from Massachusetts, don’t blame me.”

Even though I live in PA now, I still get it. Obama is a con man. (My husband says he reminds him of a pimp trying to con a run away into his stable. “Come on honey, I’ll take care of you, buy you fancy clothes, feed you, treat ya reeeaaaaalll nice.Come on baby, you know I love you.” Once they get em, they whip the shit out of em and throw em in the street to hustle.)

These comments certainly drive home the reality of Obama’s inadequacy.

I have to say also that this is one of many such comments on different topics that do exactly the same thing. But every time I read this kind of strong documented logic, I am always left with the same question that nobody seems to want to try and answer.

What is going on with the Democratic Party?

Why would the senior Democratic Party leadership support and promote someone who is so woefully unprepared and unqualified for the Presidency?

Hillary’s supporters probably don’t want to explain this for the sake of party unity. But if Obama wins the nomination, the Republicans would not hestitate to delve into the matter and I am sure it won’t be pretty.

So far, the best explanation I have come across is in Webster Tarpley’s new book, “Obama. The Post Modern Coup. The Making of a Manchurian Candidate.”

The voters in Massachusetts see the results of a canned candidate before their eyes. The rest of us really need to take a hard, hard look before we make the same mistake for our country.

Comment by alibe | 2008-05-05 16:17:55

I want to second the mention of the book, Webster Tarpley’s new book, “Obama. The Post Modern Coup. The Making of a Manchurian Candidate.
It is fascinating, thought provoking, and spot on. I independently Googled many points in the book because a lot of points were new to me and I am a Poli-Sci major and a history buff. Everything checked out. Call me a cynic, but trust and verify has become my mantra.
It is a must read for all and advertised on this site.
And to top it off, you can just download it for $5.00 from Lulu.com. You can order it too, but a download can be read right away. And you will begin it right away and finish it within the day.
The worst thing about the book is that it is unnerving in its scope and insight. Not for the faint of heart.

Oops. Look what happens to empty suits / via SUSA polling:
http://www.surveyusa.com/

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, elected in 2006, is now at his lowest-ever level of job approval.

Patrick today has a 41% approval rating and a 56% disapproval rating, combining to create a Minus 15 Net Job Approval.

One month ago, Patrick was at Minus 1; two months ago, at Plus 13. Just after taking office in January of 2007, he was at Plus 24.

Full results are here. Click the “1/T” to bring up the sixteen months of tracking graphs, a SurveyUSA exclusive.

The research was conducted exclusively for Boston’s WBZ-TV. For a full breakdown of the crosstabs, discussion of changes over time, and expert analysis of what’s behind Deval Patrick’s falling numbers, be sure to read the latest from WBZ’s political analyst, Jon Keller.

Maybe Bush is rooting for Obama to erase the lows of the Bush presidency. Nothing like following one disaster with one of even larger and more far reaching proportions? Who would have thought that the “Bush Legacy” would count on an “Obama” presidency to make it look better?

I am from Mass and, along with my parents (a Teamster and a public school teacher) was thrilled when Patrick got elected. He has been one disappointment after another. On his latest big book deal worth millions he proclaimed that he would be writing it on nights and weekends (because apparently the great people from Mass only deserve his attention from 9 to 5). My parents, who have always been for Hillary, cannot believe that Obama has got away with co-opting so much of the Alexrodination Patrick. No one can bring it up, however, unless it is outright plagiarism, or you will called a racist for comparing two black candidates! Patrick, believe it or not, is actually more qualified to be prez and a hell of a speaker, much better and more fluid than Obama, so go figure. He has done nothing because of his inability to work with the Mass state legislature (he said he would build bridges too and alas, nada). The saddest thing is that Obama is now polling even with McCain in Mass according to Survey USA and HRC is up 16 points. Even McGovern went for Mass. This could get ugly…please help us IN and NC!!!!

I live in MA, and did phone banking/visibility for Hillary prior to Feb. 5. Except for our own elitist community in Cambridge, most people seemed to be for Hillary.

Deval Patrick is lame. Threw poor people under the bus by proposing casino gambling, and - the rural communities where he was going to put casinos - places where there are still horse farms, cranberry bogs, and other open space - do not have the infrastructure to handle casinos. It would have ruined the way of life in many small towns, you know the small towns I mean - the same one’s Obamalamadingdong scorns. Think Patrick cared about those towns? Nope. He just didn’t want people to dislike him for raising taxes, so Mr. Popularity Contest thunk up casinos as his magic trick. Thank goodness it didn’t work.

I voted for Patrick, but come November, will vote McCain, if necessary, to keep another lame, egotistical, lying pansy out of office. (and I mean no disrespect to the flower)

Part of the way Hillary won MA, by the way, is that the entrenched political establishment here - mayor, senate leader etc, did serious stumping for Hillary, and had effective ground organization. One reason all these leaders supported Hillary was to prevent another Patrick type candidate from advancing, and to diss Patrick by showing he couldn’t carry the state for Obama. As for Kerry who endorsed Obama here, heck, we all know he’s an elitist. And Kennedy, well, his endorsement of Obama just brought out hordes of women for Hillary to give him a big f u for betraying us.

We did it in February and we’ll do it again in November, if need be.

Is it just me or was Obama speaking Hillary’s words on Meet the Press yesterday on the question he got about Iraq? And when Obama said that he would admit that he has a flaw in that he cares too much about other people’s feelings was that John Edwards speaking through his mouth?

Reminded me of a movie my teen daughter loves, with Jamie Lee Curtis, where the mother and daughter switch bodies. It seemed yesterday on Meet the Press that Obama was inhabited by various bodies speaking through him. And it reminded me of Deval Patrick and the whole plagerism thing.

On a similar theme, how is it that Obama has a history of hanging out with a lot of far-left types in Chicago, but that he has surrounded himself with campaign advisors who are not only not left, but arguably on the right.

Will the real Barack Obama please stand up?

Spraing ‘mace’ in the Clintons’ faces is a great metaphor. It’s exactly the way it’s been done. AAs didn’t have to do it in this fashion. Blacks have every right to support the candidate of their choice. This is a democracy. But no. They fell for the Obama campaign’s playing of the race card. Didn’t even give the Clinton’s the benefit of the doubt and check to see what was exactly said. Then AAs played racial politics against their own if they didn’t support Obama.

In the end, all this did was cost the AA community its public dignity and good will among the kindred spirits in the white community who still rallied behind the fight against racism and for equal rights.

It didn’t have to go down this way. AAs could have easily supported Obama with a promise to support Hillary if she won the nomination, like the loyal Democrats they’ve always been. NO! It just had to turn ugly…. into threats of violence and rioting, intimidation tactics and name calling.

And the worst offenders have been the AAs who benfited most from the Clinton administration.

So much for the transcendent candidate of hope and change!

Here’s a preview of things to come from V.2.1:

As Patrick’s highly lauded cure-all-fiscal-woes Casino legislation went down in flames, “Mr. Unity” (v.1.1) could not be found anywhere. It turned out that he was in NY that day peddling his new book - shamelessly abandoning those who had stood by him in his quest.

Fool me once, shame on you,
Fool me twice, shame on me!

WORD?, JUST WORDS? YES, sadly, just EMPTY WORDS!

ODE TO OBAMA
by Publius II

There once was a man named Obama
His life began with drama
An African Muslim father
An eccentric white mama

Obama’s white grandparents
They gave him a charmed life
Raised on the beaches of Hawaii
Far from ghetto strife

He went to private schools
Fourteen thousand dollars a year
Working-class white folks
They were nowhere near

He attended Columbia
Then Harvard Law
A very soft and liberal upbringing
Something Americans eventually saw

He then went to Chicago
Nation of Islam, Farrakhan, Black Panthers and Jackson
The only friends he made
All from the extreme left-wing faction

He joined a radical church
His Pastor downright insane
Blacks and whites, he said
Think with different parts of their brain

His church praised a man named Cone
With hateful opinions he was filled
He said white people were “the devil”
And Gods who love whites must be killed

Obama first ran for State Senate
With permission from Chicago’s Marxist King
A domestic terrorist named Ayers
Obama kissed his ring

He wrote a book called “Dreams From My Father”
From start to finish a racist rant
After people finally read it
They said: “Obama, no we can’t”

He wrote how he rejected his mother’s race
And that Malcolm X was a hero
People had a clear warning
Obama was a dangerous zero

He was then elected to the U.S. Senate
Obama’s ego grew very bold
He barely served a year
I will run for President was the story he told

He spent millions to stage rallies
The crowds would yell and cheer
But then it all fizzled out
Typical white folks, he said, cling to religion, guns and beer

His wife said America was mean
She was never really proud
Her Black Separatist thesis at Princeton
Became a campaign cloud

People said he was a Muslim
His supporters scoffed and jeered
Then his Black Liberation Church was exposed
And Obama’s ugly head was reared

He tried to recover in a speech on race
The left-wing media offered raves
But he said white folks had an “untrained ear”
And abolitionists in Pennsylvania rolled over in their graves

He claimed to be a uniter
He would bring people together all at once
But after his speech in Philadelphia
He proved to be a demographic dunce

He tried once more to persuade whites
But his bowling was a mess
He rolled a 37
Like a 5-year-old girl in a dress

He then played basketball
He drove the ball to the rack
But when all was said and done
He nearly had a heart attack

He said damn those white voters
Their Mutual Funds I will tax
I’ll double the capital gains rate
Like an old-school Liberal hack

He opposed a gas tax holiday
He said it wasn’t a winner
$40 wasn’t much he said
Just the weekly budget for the average family’s dinner

He wouldn’t cover his heart
As the National Anthem played
It’s a meaningless gesture he said
But Americans felt betrayed

He wouldn’t wear a flag pin
It was against his One World view
It doesn’t matter he said
And the American people stewed

He first called terrorist Ayers his friend
Then said this man he didn’t really know
More deceit and cover-ups
Obama’s lies began to grow

Farrakhan, Jackson and Sharpton
Three of Obama’s greatest fans
He tried hiding them in the closet
So not to further offend the white man

Then came his anti-American Pastor
Obama’s mentor for 20 years
He preened, shucked and jived
White people rose up and sneered

NBC and the New York Times
They tried each day to save Obama’s campaign
But real Americans said “FU”
And Obama spiraled down the drain

His name was Barrack Hussein Obama
Running for a second Jimmy Carter term
Weak on National Security
A little, pacifist worm

The radical left-wing Democrats
A Presidential race lost once again
Is it really a surprise
They’ve lost 7 of the last 10?

Publius…another “Highwayman” that is not. But nice effort.

Uppity…excellent article! I laughed at that “Massatoosits” — that’s been driving me nuts. And this stammering petulant fool is supposed to be a “good speaker?”

I was for Chris Gabrieli…I never was enamored of Duval’s glib speeches, so it’s not been “fool me” even “once.”

But give me Duval any day over the fraud that is Obama.

This is an absolutely breathtaking article. It should be printed and placed in front of the eyeballs of every democratic delegate - super and elected. Also, see Obamatruth.org
