Obama’s Gas A-Tax

As everyone knows, we are in a recession. The price of food has gone up dramatically. In fact there is a world wide shortage of food. Home sales are at historic lows. Foreclosures have skyrocketed. Jobs are being lost at an extraordinary rate. And the price of gasoline has gone up incredibly.
Ordinary Americans are having to choose whether to fill up the tank or fill their bellies. Literally.
And two brave politicians have bucked their parties offering a federal gas tax holiday throughout the summer to help out a little, especially to those in greatest need. John McCain first made this proposal but he refused to pay for it, driving us further into debt.
Hillary embraced McCain’s proposal, but did the responsible thing and required that the measure be paid for. Senator Obama has adamantly opposed this proposal. He has stated on numerous occasions that this is a gimmick that won’t really help anyone. And the elite he is, he mocked the small savings that people would experience. Not exactly the compassion that we need in a leader. Especially to the least fortunate that live day to day.
Senator Obama claimed that he has tried all this before and therefore he knows it is a gimmick. In fact, when he was an Illinois Senator, he voted to suspend the State gas tax three times. But he reached the conclusion afterward that it didn’t actually help anyone. But Senator Obama was wrong.
Obama is wrong about the gas tax
In fact, the only scientific study done on the pass-through of the tax holiday savings to Illinois consumers (and those in Indiana, as well, whose citizens enjoyed a similar holiday) found that it actually worked to a large extent.
The authors concluded that “the suspension of the 5% sales tax led to decreases in retail prices of 3% compared to neighboring states. And when the tax was reinstated, retail prices rose by roughly 4%.”
This suggests that the tax holiday delivered at least 60 percent of the tax savings to motorists.
This report: $2.00 GAS! STUDYING THE EFFECTS OF A GAS TAX MORATORIUM (PDF FORMAT) is the only one actually done on the gas tax holiday and it proves conclusively that the holiday BENEFITED the citizens of Illinois. So it seems that Senator Obama isn’t curious (like George Bush) enough to actually investigate the results of his actions. Or he is the one using a gimmick to hoodwink voters into believing that something his opponent proposes won’t benefit them when according to the actual science, it will.
Could he be attacking Clinton just to deny her any political benefit? That would be as cynical and “old style” as anything Clinton has thrown at Obama lately.
But Senator Obama certainly has scores of political allies in this battle with Hillary. Some of the people that support his position are not known to support helping ordinary Americans under any circumstances.
Clinton-McCain gas tax holiday slammed as bad idea
“Score one for Obama,” wrote Greg Mankiw, a former chairman of President George W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers. “In light of the side effects associated with driving … gasoline taxes should be higher than they are, not lower.”
Get that? Gas taxes should be higher! Maybe that is why Obama is against Hillary’s plan. He wants higher gas taxes. It wouldn’t be so difficult to accept considering he has such respect for the outside the box Republican ideas he is always praising. Being all post partisan and all.
We have all heard that so many economists are totally against Hillary’s plan. They claim that any actual savings would be paid to the oil companies and the lower prices would lead to greater demand which would raise the prices anyway. That sounds to me like Washington Can’t Do politics. The exact kind of politics that senator Obama claims to be against. But as we all know, talk is cheap. Especially during an election year.
What the myopic Washington insiders don’t tell people is that the economic theory that has the elite up in arms is called the Tax Incidence theory. And if people only look at the theory it is easy to get up in arms and draw the wrong conclusions. So here is a primer.
The economic basis for attacks on the Clinton tax holiday is a fundamental economic theory called “tax incidence.”It says that the cost of a tax on any consumer product will be borne by those with lesser “elasticity” in the tug of war between suppliers and consumers. “Tax incidence” falls mostly upon the group that responds least to price — the group that has the more inelastic price-quantity curve. In this instance, assuming that the supply of gas is pretty much fixed, it means consumers will end up paying those missing tax dollars directly to the gas companies in the form of higher prices. The increased demand triggered by the price cut will supposedly lead drivers to bid up the price of gas, swallowing the tax cut.
But this is not what happened in Illinois and Indiana back in 2000. And there are factors at work today that might provide equal or more “elasticity” to the producers, and prevent consumers from paying the price for the tax cut.
Notice that last part. There are factors in play today that provide buffers (or more elasticity) to help consumers that were not present earlier. And remember as stated above, that earlier, the consumer did see a benefit, albeit a minor one.
Gasoline inventories are currently very high, and these surpluses can absorb much of any increase in demand.
So our already created stockpiles of refined gasoline and our nearly filled strategic petroleum reserve can take care of any minor increase in demand should that demand occur. But the likelihood of a demand increase from such a small change in the price of gas in the short term is almost none.
On the demand side, let’s face it: This is a tiny price cut. It is not likely to spur demand much beyond the usual seasonal increase in driving. And if oil companies do what Obama says they will do — jack up prices to cover the tax — there would be no incentive at all to drive more.
Economist William Polley elaborates on the Tax Incidence theory and explains how what is happening in the short term is not directly affected by it.
Gas tax holiday: Who gets the benefit?
This is Econ 101–tax incidence theory. This is bread and butter for economists. But our pronouncements are only as good as what we really know about the relevant supply and demand elasticities.
Supply may be relatively fixed in the summer, but if short run demand is also inelastic, it is not a foregone conclusion that the suppliers will get all the benefit.
We take as one of our stylized facts that gasoline demand is fairly inelastic in the very short run. A 10% change in gas prices this month will probably not cause me to change my driving habits much.
So what Obama and his nay saying crowd are claiming is not necessarily true. Because what they take into account is an economic theory alone, not the actual situation. And that actual situation makes the theory itself variable especially since we have a large reserve supply and the time period for this holiday is very short.
As the Salon article concludes:
Basically, it is absurd to say that a summer-long price drop of this tiny magnitude will have any long-term effect at all.
So we have Senator Obama lining up with the Can’t Do Washington crowd and we have Hillary lining up with and standing behind the hard working people of America. The ones trying to make ends meet every day. And the ones that are hurting the most from these high gas prices.
Senator Obama tries to scare people away from embracing something that everyone knows they will benefit from. It may be that Obama is emulating his hero Ronnie Reagan who he said he admired because he was able to get people to vote against their self interests. It could be just exactly that. A testing of his powers. But facts are on the side of Hillary and the Can Do crowd. Because it is easy enough to implement this program and make it so that the oil companies do not raise their prices.
But under Clinton’s plan, if properly implemented, any additional profit realized by an oil company by passing on the cost of the windfall profits tax to customers would also be subject to the tax. This means a dollar passed through to consumers to offset the tax would appear as profit … and be taxed.
How to enforce this? Make it against the law for oil companies to pass the price of the windfall profits tax on to consumers, and then audit the oil companies’ books. It is not a difficult accounting exercise to tax excess profits above a certain gross percentage per barrel of oil, or gallon of gas. Every major oil company has sophisticated profit segmentation reports that go to the very senior management of the company. These reports identify revenues, costs and profit at each level of the vertically integrated operation, broken down on a per barrel basis by product type, marketing region, you name it.
The oil companies also will have a powerful inducement to avoid being caught — and in this kind of toxic political environment, they may actually swallow the tax.
But it takes a little bit of courage to take them on, and a belief that we do not always have to be victims. Obama — where is your optimism?
Isn’t it ironic that the candidate that represents the Can Do new type of politics is the same candidate that her opponent says represents the old style of politics? But that is the way Washington politicians act. They lie, they smear and they attack. And the only reason they do it is to distract the voters from their true positions. In this case it is very clear whose side Senator Obama is on. And it ain’t ours.

There is nothing wrong in Hillary’s proposal. Let the gas companies pay the tax.
They are going to increase price of gas even if you do not tax them. So, lets tax them.
HOLY CRAP! I just refreshed the page and that scary puss popped up. Yowza, I’ll be sleeping with the lights on tonight. Yeesh.
The Office of POTUS in times of NATIONAL DURESS and WAR has flexible Temporary Powers that can be enacted to secure the NATIONAL ECONOMY FOR THE WELFARE OF THE UNION…..FDR exersized these powers….
The NATIONAL ECONOMY IS VITAL TO NATIONAL SECURITY…..
Clinton has the OIL CO’s. Literally shakin in their Boots…..
She really does look freaky. If I was Barry I would probably go around stinky just to keep her away from me.
She’s really a “looker” isn’t she?
The face of racism.
The gas tax holiday is just really good populist politics. The people out here in the heartland need to at least perceive that the government is doing something to help them. Action just plays better with people than giving them some intellectual garbage about “gimmicks”.
Plus, a half a tank of gas savings really truly can help those in rural America who drive far to jobs and grocery stores. This “people will drive more” argument makes no sense at all especially with gas at over $3 a gallon most places. People want to see some relief. That Clinton sees the populist politics of this is great and that she wants to make oil companies pay for it wraps it all up in a nice package for voters.
I guess the elites in Washington don’t understand that people that live in small towns need to drive long distances every day just to work. But Obama doesn’t have a very high opinion of small town folks to begin with so it doesn’t surprise me that he wouldn’t lift a haughty finger to help them.
Folks in rural America?
(They thank you for your pity, you’re a swell guy, there…)
I wonder how much debt those sumg lil assholes are in, those who minister to the poor, through our government?
Own your house yet, your car, what about your credit cards? Got stocks? What happens if the thing crashes, I mean, my goodness, even Enron fell…
Lose your job, and it’s gone, it goes on your credit record, and you’re one of those poor rural folks, in need of condescension, and pretentious pedantics, to advocate for them.
But then I suppose you could start a blog, or move to San Fransico, or become a republican op.
heh.
Spare me.
Obama doesn’t have a high opinion of anyone who works for a living. We live 20 miles from my husband’s workplace and there is no public transportation. Any aid that we can find to help us out on gas prices is most welcome. I guess when you take money from Oil Companies you have to do their bidding–Right Obama?
Yes, you do.
Same thing when you take money from international arms and drug dealers.
Twenty? Lucky!
It’s been a freaking mater stoke. Do folks even remember MaCain said it 1st?
You could write a book about just this topic and the impact it had on the campaign ….plus BO keeps giving Hill this club to beat him with day after day!It underlines bittergate to the max and she doesn’t have to say it…BO DOES!! LOL!!!! The gas tax is bittergate 2.0 Thank you Barry!
I was thinking with Bama, and his snubs of Clinton, say at the State of the Union, and now within the primary campaign, (like a group of Heathers Obama’s people are, is this too funny? is this what passes for elite intellectualism nowadays?) it must burn when his tactics leave Clinton cold. You know, nothing worse than snubbing someone, and the object of your jealously (the snubee) NOT CARING.
POW!
Clinton: Too Cool for Bama…
heh.
trī-ˌaŋ-gyə-ˈlā-shən
Sorry, but this is making me laugh so hard- Obama opened himself up to being tagged as elitist (which was LONG overdue), positioned himself as the outside, non-expert layman (country/city preacher?) outsider as his strong suit, claiming all the while that he “wasn’t a politician” he was gonna “rise above it” that we need “hope” and “change” but not… wait for it… tax relief? He set himself up, they’re just knocking him over.
As with so many other issues- you don’t hand your opponents (in this case, Republicans, who he is usually blowing smoke up their but that’s another story for another day) a stick to beat yourself, or us, with. Inflation is out of control. People are losing their houses. Tens upon tens of millions don’t have health care.
—-After nearly two decades of low food inflation, prices for staples such as bread, milk, eggs, and flour are rising sharply, surging in the past year at double-digit rates, according to the Labor Department. Milk prices, for example, increased 26 percent over the year. Egg prices jumped 40 percent. —-
This is a man who simply doesn’t understand the levers of power- not with regard to deterrence, not with regard to Iran & hypothetical situations- not with regard to the raw fundamental power of the state, the power to tax. You’d think he’d want to give himself a tax break, hell, he drives a giant v8 SUV.
I don’t have time to look it up but I know Bill Clinton lost an early election of his because he hiked some kind of driver’s license or state vehicle inspection fee- and he got his arse handed straight back to him because of some low dollar fee increase. He never forgot that lesson. If you can give back, you do- politicians understand the ART of this back & forth.
Time for this charade to end. Hillary has got a great green collar jobs program that I find compelling & also a terrific energy independence plan. I heard a lot more details about it in person about how we really can raise our own fuel & create un-outsourceable-jobs here at home - very interesting visionary stuff.
Obama really thinks it is about pandering. He missed the fact (as did Colbert last night, sadly) that her proposal was magical paygo, and didn’t take funds out of the highway monies.
Barack thinks hope & change will pay the rent. Obviously. Not.
I wish she (or appropriate surrogate- Jamie Rubin perhaps?!) would come out two-fisted yelling: ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD LOOK AT THIS GAS TAX HOLIDAY IN ISOLATION… YES, by all means, LET’S TALK ABOUT
YOUR TOTAL ENERGY SECURITY - and how our green collar jobs program ensures that America, not the Middle East, controls our own energy future…
How about a strictly energy or fp debate, Barack? eh?
Clinton understands that we can’t allow Republicans to own the meme of tax and spend Democrats & remain indifferent to the plight of people in terms of inflation & more expensive energy, fuel & other costs, like groceries.
I ate at the Glider Diner in Scranton, PA a few days after Barack barked at reporters wanting to discuss fp, “Why can’t I just eat my waffle?” & though the table was clean, the tip was left there- about 17 dimes, maybe 10 nickles, no quarters, no pennies. Although 18 cents sounds ridiculous by itself, the US uses an astronomical amount of gas daily & these savings add up- especially for people like cough cough Barack Obama who personally drive giant 8 cyinder SUVs yet like to posture & rant at Detroit.
Clinton’s also offering us a solid energy plan & great green jobs plan I’d dearly love to see implemented. Her gas tax holiday plan also implements paygo & unfortunately, Colbert didn’t get that detail in his broadcast last night. This small distinction is in fact a huge philosophical difference between the kind of governance proposed (and demonstrated, by her husband) by the Clintons & the question marks- does he even understand the core issue?- brought to the table by Obama.
Time for the curtain to come down on the amateur hour.
bluemoon, very impressive. I hope you are giving speeches this election season because you do, for a fact, know what you’re talking about.
Hillary is able to avoid traps of pretension, because she is campaigning to the people she grew up with, she never looks down on them.
Obama, needs to feel superior to set himself apart, very very very indicative of a weak self image…
And speaking of weak, and self image, I was thinking of the big orange, all that pretension and no talent, and that crew so unaware, while it fails, dying, never knowing how silly they look to everyone else, as they lose.
And reading Newsweek, lately, I have to wonder if they’re in the tank for Obama, like a paid consultant?
IS this why they hired K**?
I for one cannot wait to put up solar panels via a feb tax break to help me to do so….
GREAT!!
Yeah, that kind of thing is so interesting, experimenting with the technology, seeing how it works, finding ways to make it better, constant improvement benefits the economy and the environment.
Cheney’s guys don’t think like that, though, in part it’s why they don’t support technological growth, they really can’t see past some hippy dippy image of “solar power” but then they’re not smart. They don’t understand research, or if they do there is liberal research, and republican research, apparently, for that group, anyway. “Solar energy” falls under “liberal research.”
And it shows in their complete lack of success, or ability to war successfully.
Obama’s pals include fat cats who are determined to destroy the middle class and people who hate America. Perhaps we could have a social and invite both groups because they would have so much in common — their common goal being to destroy this country and our way of life.
I only hope and pray the American people see that with Hillary we can be strong again. Obama offers nothing to any American. When you listen to his angry and depressing wife you get a clue as to his agenda for us.
the tip was left there- about 17 dimes, maybe 10 nickles, no quarters, no pennies.
Thanks for the answer to a question I was wondering about and as Uppity did not want to ” go there”, I am glad you did.
The voters to Obama are just pocket change eh?
If a were running for POTUS, I would be generous…
Obama really thinks it is about pandering. He missed the fact (as did Colbert last night, sadly) that her proposal was magical paygo, and didn’t take funds out of the highway monies.
It’s so weird about Colbert and Stewart, isn’t it? And that is happening over and over in this “silly season” - the people you think are super-smart turn out to be susceptible to neurotic brain freeze, even when our nation’s welfare is at stake. Says a lot about the human psyche.

Checkmate for Hillary and the American people very soon!
May 6, 2008
I share the profound frustration and angst of Hillary supporters with this election process and the absurdity of someone with Obama’s background and what we now know still being in the race.
I have good news though: We are about to see checkmate for Hillary and the American people! This nomination is not just about selecting a nominee, it is more importantly about our nation not caving in to blackmail from Obama and his thugs who have been spreading fear of race-riots and ripping open old wounds of racial tension. America can’t afford to let Obama get away with this as it threatens our stability and security as a nation. Obama threatens our very way of life as a people.
Here is the strategy for victory for Hillary and the American people:
Obama said Indiana was a “tiebreaker” and we will hold him to his words. We will also demand the SD’s show courage and not succumb to Obama who is trying to force the nomination by fomenting insurrection in the form of threatened race riots.
The Democratic Party seems to be moving towards allowing Obama the nomination out of fear, knowing Obama will lose to McCain in the general election. This “safety valve” is totally unacceptable! Don’t even think its acceptable! The time will soon be to demand the uncommitted SD’s endorse Hillary and the Obama committed SD’s defect to her as well.
If Hillary can also win North Carolina, Obama would be toast and please butter accordingly, preferably both sides.
If she does win both states, we may not have to be as heavy handed on the insurrection problem — which I would prefer. We need to start healing the wounds Obama has oh so selfishly opened up as soon as humanly possible.
I wish I could have 5 minutes alone with Obama to explain his lust for ego, power, self-aggrandizement and wealth is destroying his nation. I would also tell him he is being lead down the path to personal destruction by people who really don’t give a rat’s ass about that hopeium “change” snake-oil he has been peddling. He is being “walked” by powerful forces. Ones in the metaphorical sense that are the forces of darkness, evil and doom.
The desire for change without the wisdom and experience to manifest it will end in certain disaster — especially when you consider this change mantra is a false promise to begin with.
I think I’ve given everybody the path to victory, not only for Hillary but for our nation. Maybe you horses might consider drinking this water? I fear our nation and all its peoples will not be able to survive Obama’s blackmail attempt to gain the nomination. We are close to stopping him and his evil minions in their tracks but don’t be afraid to fight tooth and nail by all legal means at your disposal to stop him. We are better than Obama. We will stop him. We have to stop him and what he truly represents, not what he says he represents.
It is of course important to keep hammering away at Wright, Ayers, Rezko and all the other issues, but Obama might be able to whimper across the finish line if we don’t go after him on the blackmailing. He does not care per se about the hammering on Wright, etc, since he can simply ignore it, which is why he won’t debate. This is Obama’s strategy: ignore his critics, whimper across the finish line then regroup for the general election — leaving a trail of destruction in his monstrous path — victory at all costs is his guiding principle.
Show him that strategy won’t fool us and show the world America’s metal is in fighting off would-be tyrannical dictators like Obama. Yes indeed, the Obama campaign is reminiscent of Hitler’s rise to power. The “Good Germans” did nothing to stop Hitler. Do you want to be called one of the “Good Americans” in the history books because you were too afraid to really stand up to Obama?
That is precisely the point.
Yeppers. I’ve been busy and have not checked for replies since I posted this comment and I am not surprised the Obama supporters won’t touch this with a 10-fucking-foot pole, at least yet.
Tonight is going to be an excellent night!
GNG, I will never, never drink his water. I promise.
Wise!
No, guitarist, I do not want to be sitting idle & watch Obama ripped the country apart by his shallow rhetorics. Tom Hanks, in today’s papers, endorsed Obama & even compared him to FDR, Harry Truman & JFK, what the nerve!SHAME ON YOU, TOM HANKS!!!This distinguished Americans did not forget themselves by flipping off to anyone, much less to a distinguished lady opponent!Obama did & he was proud by having this undignified behavior be in video & posted in his website! In the YouTube video, he used his middle finger after mentioning “Hillary elements”,brushed off his shoulders, stab the knife, invoking the lyric of his favorite rapper, Jay-Z.Obama did this twice, in his speeches at Raleigh,NC, April 17, 2008, a day after his humiliating lost to Hillary in their 4th debate, ABC, April 16, 2008.His supporters went wild, as well as Obama, showing his wide grin.Is this guy fitted to represent my beautiful America? Tom Hanks is now history to me!He is looking forward to the “swift change” Obama will make to our country (his words). AMERICA, PLS. WAKE-UP!! GOD SAVE AMERICA!!!
I would suspect if Tom Hanks knew about Obama what the NSA knows about Obama, he’d be embarrassed.
A lot of them would…
What does Tom Hanks think (maybe he doesn’t think at least clearly), the nation will ignore the ramifications of Obama’s Hitleresque plan? Does Hanks realize the national security implications of Obama and his campaigns actions? Does Hanks think the powers-that-be are going to ignore this any longer? This is top level serious shit that idiots like Hanks have been fucking with. Idiots without a clue should endorse Bugs Bunny for President and not help keep Obama going…
I am an Indiana voter and I proudly cast my vote for Hillary today. I would happily accept a gas tax holiday. Obama doesn’t understand the average American because he belittles a 18.5% tax break for those of us who take a hit everytime we fill up our tanks. I go to a different gas station down the street if I see that they are pennies cheaper than another station. We are in a recession and every little bit helps. Even if like Obama says it will ONLY save me about $30, that money could help buy some groceries or pay for a copay for my baby’s doctor’s visit. Hillary is the one who gets us. She stands up to anyone she has to if she believes it’s going to help the average American. Obama is in it because he feels entitled. Hillary is in it to make this country work again for the American people.
Hurray, dofogo! I hope your vote is representative of 90% of Indiana voters!
Thank you,dofogo!
“Hill takes NC” I can see the headlines tomorrow. Wonder if that will make the MSM shut up and accept Hillary the what she is - the next POTUS!
Pete
Obama charges Hillary of practicing “scared tactics”.In this case, it is loud and clear, that he is the one doing the FEAR tactics to the voters!
Obama is for the oil/gas companies side.
TAX THE GAS/OIL COMPANIES! They are reporting billion dollar profit. Why not share that to the people?
MAN, does this woman suck on a lemon just before a camera clicks or does she ALWAYS look that sourpussed!? The gas tax moratorium will save the average family 30-35 bucks a month. Well, I don’t know about YOU, but that will buy(depending on what kinda chickchick ya like)15 to 35 lbs of chicken. That means for EVERY night that month my family can eat MEAT! Even if you go for grnd beef you’re looking at around 15 lbs. So blow me obamalamadingdong. Us workin slobs can’t just stop off at the gormet rest. and order up a steak and a $250 bottle of bubbly. But we CAN send your racist, misogynistic, homophobic,America hatting, coward of an ass packing…can’t we. BuhBye obamalamadingdong. Can’t WAIT to hear the squealin and moanin and spinnin faster then a gyroscope after the polls close!
Secular, I was able to feed a family of five for a week on 30 bucks. Made my own breads, pinto beans, hamhocks and rice, cornbread, homemade jams from blackberries picked from the side of the road. But yes, red meat was a luxery. Since we were active duty military, we were lucky though, food was subsidized at the commissary. And we had foodstamps. But still, when it got real tight, we donated plasma to put gas in to car.
Strawberry, flour is up to 6.00 a pound now, the old frugality is no longer is applicable.
As the US is really not an island, we are also affected by world shortages, and competition, and George Bush and Dick Cheney are our champions.
Strawberrybitch;
Since we were active duty military, we were lucky though.
And we had foodstamps
This bugs me to know end that an active duty person has to use public assistance….
Something is very wrong with that picture.
Nothing like road side berries though.
I like Clinton wants to redo the GI BILL….She is a true friend to Vets…
Secular — from your mouth to God’s ears my friend.
Many economists also say we are not in a recession. I hear that all tihe time. We are in a slowdown. BULLSHIT!!!
I am sick of hearing how all the smart people know more about whether I am losing ground than I do. This is what I do know:
I haven’t had a decent raise for 8 years. We had a wage freeze for 4 years, and since it was lifted, average raises have been between 2 and 4%. It works out that for the last eight years, my raises have averages .5%.
Wages in comparison to the rise in cost of living have been in a downhill slide ever since Hillary’s husband left office. Increases in expenses for Healthcare, food, utilities and gas have been steadily outpacing wages for most Americans for years.
Congress is all fine with giving handouts to big corporations, bankers and Wall Street the first time they suffer a little drop in profits. We taxpayers have carried those sponges for years and we want some payback. It is time to raise their taxes and give us a break.
Hillary understands that working class taxpayers and voters are really pissed off. Obama doesn’t understand that because he doesn’t give a shit about working people.
From this time last year Foreclosure up 53% food 4.5%, 400,000 jobs gone. The Dollar at an historic low.
apishapa makes you wonder.
Watching poverty creeping in to the “middle Class”…
I work for the State, so there are a whole lot of Coloradans who haven’t had a decent raise for years. A lot of state employees make less than I do. And I have been consistently rated a top performer so I got the biggest raise percentage the state gives out.
Thousands of State employees have had to drop health insurance on their children. These kids are not eligible for SCHIP because their parents work for the state, so when we drop our insurance, our children have no net to fall back on.
I know families whop live on 1/4 of my income. I have no idea how they survive. It really pisses me off to hear anyone tell the poor to just tighten up their belts a little more.
If a patient with severe cough and cold goes to the doctor, the treatment is two fold:
Short term: the DR prescribes? Analgesic (anti-pain) and antipyretic (anti fever)which takes care of whatever pain/suffering the patient is in.
Long term: He also prescribes an antibiotic to solve the problem of respiratory infection.
This is not different from the problem we are currently facing with the high gas prices.
Although the Gas Tax holiday is palliative, it is important because it gives a relief from the PAIN in our pockets that the high gas price causes. And Sen Clinton doesn’t stop there. She also offers additional long range solutions like investigating price-gouging, solve reliance in fuel, etc.
Is that the photo where she’s sitting next to Auchi?
This is incredible. I just read that Nancy Pelosi is saying that we need another stimulus package. But she is adamantly opposed to the gas tax holiday.
Let’s see… Hillary PAYS for the gas tax holiday.
Pelosi adds to our country’s debt by giving out a stimulus package. The first one cost us $168 billion dollars. I wonder how much further in debt she thinks we need to go?
Here is a quote from the article:
Pelosi says more stimulus needed, Bush “in denial”
So as I understand it, going into debt to give ordinary Americans relief is GOOD and paying for relief for Americans is BAD. When did Pelosi become a Republican?
Methinks Nancy Pelosi is in denial too.
Honestly, it’s like Congress just lit up another fatty, oh, what can we expect next, with that type of thinking?
Good god…
Folks, this election has become crucial for the future of America.
First the MSM forces a candidate down our throats.
Next the big heads at the DNC fail to do due diligence on the candidate the MSM is pushing as though their lives depended on it.
The best qualified candidate is being vilified!!!
Do THEY have a collective suicide wish or WHAT?
Others have a hate agenda so potent it’s scary.
If some run-away branch of the Dem Party has the stupidity of endorsing the Manchurian candidate BO, then mainstream democrats who really care about their country should stay at home or vote mcCain. At least we know that the man loves his country, and has always been for more reasonable positions than GWB.
Maybe this runaway branch of the Dem Party, composed of white haired big losers (Kerry, Dodd, Brazile, Dean, Pelosi and others) would have come to their senses by then, reformed their STUPID primary rules, had enough remorse, seen their country buttressed enough, and be ready to put their tails between their legs and fade away in the night, much like the neocons at present.
We know the burning love that the Clintons have for the USA…..All of this reminds me in a way of the origin of the Episcopal Church, breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church to allow Henry VIII to marry his 2nd wife.
The only people who have “forced” Obama down your throats are the MAJORITY of Dems who have voted for him, not her! Try as you might, you just can’t get past that whole voter “choice” thing, can you?
Guess what Rob - You are a liar!
When you count Florida and Michigan Hillary has the most votes.
And when you subtract out all the voter fruad - Obama should be long gone. Believe me, if Dems do NOT addess the thuggery, and law breaking, I have no problem supplying a detailed list to the RNC and Mellon-Scaife.
Sometimes the building you are in is so rotten, the only way to save it, is to destroy it.

So go away with your lying talking points.
