Good Morning, West Virginia!

Latest poll of West Virginia, May 3, 2008: HILLARY HAS A 40% LEAD!

HRC 63 / Obama 23 / DK 14

The poll was conducted by Orion Strategies for TSG Consulting. I don’t have a link, but it’s from a 100% solid source.

Hillary is AWESOME!!! I hope Obama picks her as his running mate, if not, at least she’ll still be in the Senate and can be part of the Obama Revolution!

Love ya Hill! Sorry about losing the nomination, it was a good fight!

They’ve fouled up every blog on the web with this crap.

Hey there “Guy”. I am going to enjoy watching John Mccain set up the draft and make you people “earn” the right to open your yaps. You need some Marine Corps boot camp to teach you some manners. Good luck with getting OB elected, alone.

My instinct is to say Hillary will win by at most 9% in West Virginia. The survey taken 5-8–8 by Zeta-Alta. suggests a surge for Obama as of late.

Yes, your in stinks

Comment by Jimmy Karrveil | 2008-05-09 01:10:28

The word is that the less educated and the dumber people are the more likely they are to support Hillary. I suppose we will see how West Virginians measure on that scale. If this poll is a true reflection of their intelligence level, I believe they will prove to be the lowest in the whole country. Not an achievement most people would want.

I agree “Rise Hillary Rise”. There are still some dummys to flim flam. Tell them what they want to hear. They are not smart enough to know they are being taken for a ride. Keep up the good work. Shear these sheep. After you are through with them, toss them out with the rest of the trash.

Comment by IdiotPatrol | 2008-05-09 05:13:32

I’d rather be a Hillary supporter than someone who supports a candidate with terrorist ties. Obama + Presidency = Hamas’s happiest day

Intelligence test, Obama= I can’t disown UNCLE Wright + 6 weeks latter/I disown him

Do the math.

If the Republicans had run the race-baiting campaign which Mrs. Clinton has run, we’d all pull together and give them a verbal what-for.

However, one of our own (Democrat) has said that she is popular with “hard-working” “white” Americans. Yet, people continue to give her a pass on this kind of rhetoric.

I believe we can’t go forward unless we can go forward honestly. Mrs. Clinton has rung up some political debts she will find difficult to pay off.

Comment by jdona Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-05-13 10:59:32

Right back at you - I for one took extreme offense to being categorized along with Obama’s grandmother to being a typical white person. I also found it reprehensible that when Hillary Clinton was commenting on the role of Lyndon Johnson in getting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, Obama said her comments were “ill advised”. Since when was acknowledging the courage and foresight of one of our Democratic Presidents in the struggle for civil rights “ill advised”. and now Obama wants to the President? While at the same time denigrating the Democratic President that brought us the War on Poverty, the Great Society and the Civil Rights Act? Obama isn’t fit to call himself President, and it is a slap in the face to all of those who served before him.

Comment by rationalpsychic Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-05-13 12:04:22

Will you protect the reputation and historical importance of Martin Luther King, Jr., also? This was the point of Obama’s comment.

Please don’t exaggerate. This single comment was not a slap in the face to anyone.

Comment by jdona Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-05-14 21:15:08

Oh yes it was. It was an insult to President Johnson, just like your attempt to turn it into a slap in the face of Martin Luther King above. There is no reason to say that saluting President Johnson for all his hard work is somehow a slap in the face to Martin Luther King. It doesn’t have to be either/or. But you just did the same thing that Obama did. You turned a compliment to President Johnson into an insult to MLK. The same ploy Obama used to race bait in South Carolina. You are no different than he is.

Comment by rationalpsychic Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-05-15 01:07:07

I do understand your point. However, from what I heard Mrs. Clinton saying at: http://bourbonroom.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/01/07/clintons-candid-assessment/ was the opposite of what you are saying when you write: “It doesn’t have to be either/or.” Mrs. Clinton’s intention, from the rhetoric I hear, is to MAKE an either/or distinction.

For Mrs. Clinton, Obama’s hope has always been a false hope. For her, Mr. Obama doesn’t offer anything real or substantive. She said that it took Johnson to make a dream into a reality. This is the kind of half-truth that pays the bills for lawyers as an occupational class.

She is right that Johnson made a major effort and a gamble of political capital to make the legislation move through its final stages. However, her statement doesn’t recognize the years of efforts on the part of Martin Luther King, Jr., and thousands more who were motivated by his example of non-violent struggle. In part, this is the nature of our democracy playing itself out. However, how could such beautiful and terrifying events have unfolded without the impetus of MLK, Jr. and others who laid their LIVES on the line–not just their political futures?

I admire the stand that LBJ took. I do. However, I think that the common citizens, and those who were without the power of office, were the ones who made the greater sacrifice–in terms of personal cost and in terms of years of difficult struggle.

Is it true that Obama isn’t even campaigning in WV & KY, but is instead putting time into Ohio because it’s a swing state he lost (to appease the GE fears and the superdelegates)? Of course, the arrogance is not surprising, but it also indicates that the fix is in.

As long as they don’t impede on US interests (and that means US, not Israel), it’s a civil war that only their countrymen can settle. Foreigners will always be regarded with mistrust, anyway.

We have more business to settle, things like feeding not only our own, the world (21st century, and we still have millions who go hungry — despicable).

Winners Don’t Quit!
by Pagan Power, Thu May 08, 2008 at 01:05:42 PM EST

Yesterday, one time Hillary supporter George McGovern switched his endorsement to Obama and called upon Hillary to exit the race. To some this sudden switch of allegiance signaled a shift among Hillary supporters and a sure sign of a certain end to her campaign. But to more astute observers it demonstrated how weak McGovern’s support was to begin with. After all, when a so-called friend abandons you because it is more politically expedient to switch sides it is probably a good idea to redefine the term friendship.

Superdelegates await Clinton’s next move

“It certainly was not out of any less respect for Sen. Clinton,” McGovern said. “I think she has waged a really courageous and valiant campaign. … But I think mathematically the race is all but won by Barack Obama and the time has come for all of us to unite and get ready for the general election in the fall.”

Comment by midge battelle Subscribed to comments via email | 2008-05-08 20:38:19

mr mcgovern’s ” respect ” for Sen Clinton boggles the mind. and mathematically he’s wrong about who is the undisputed candidtae. neither of them have enough delegates without the supers stepping up. so george, what’s the “respect” quotient for Fla and Mich votes being counted?

One concern about Obama…
by werd2406, Thu May 08, 2008 at 01:02:09 PM EST

Since its becoming more and more clear that Obama will be the nominee, as a Clinton supporter and Democrat first, I will obviously be supporting him. Also I agree with a lot of his policies, I just agreed with Clinton’s a little more. Anyway, I do two concerns about him that I do keep on noticing….

1. One reason I chose Clinton is how great she was in debates. I could very well see her wiping the floor with McCain. For Obama, he seemed to be “ok” but always came across as frustrated and made it clear he wasn’t enjoying the debate. I really hope that will change.

2. His campaign. He says he wont be swift-boated and will respond to every controversy immediately, yet when the Wright thing happened, even though it was extremely clear what he had to say and do, he waited. Kinda gives me concerns about the GE but hopefully he’ll improve.

Also, when the gas tax holiday debate came out, it was clear to everyone to run with the “the oil companies will just raise their prices anyway” mantra to shut down the whole debate in general. Instead it was somewhat here and there used but for the most part not so much.

So yeah, those have been some of my two main concerns about him. Hopefully he’ll be able to pick up the pace.

Thoughts? Comments

“… he wont be swift-boated …” I suppose that is technically true. Swift-boating involves lying about a candidate. The repubs don’t need to lie about Obama. The truth is bad enough. So they will be telling the truth about Obama and not swift-boating him.

Comment by Jimmy Karrveil | 2008-05-09 01:38:25

How would you feel to see ‘a black man attacking a white woman?’ An honest answer to that question will tell you all you need to know as to why Obama was not more aggressive in the debates with Hillary Clinton. As to your second concern, he won’t be taking it easy on the Republican candidate McCain. There are no voters he can realistically expect to get from the hard core Republican voters and no reason to hesitate to give him the Muhammed Ali treatment.

Yesterday I was so lucky to attend the event Honoring Generations of Women with Chelsea Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Dorothy Rodman. It was such a moving experience and at times I was crying I was so touched by Chelsea and Hillary Clinton.

I was particularly moved when Hillary talked about the struggle women face balancing family and work. She talked about the need for flexible hours, telecommunicating, and equal pay for equal work. She really nailed it. I personally have experienced pay disparity as a consultant. Clients have paid me less than male consultants for doing the same work. Often as much as 10 or 15 percent less.

This Mother’s Say, instead of having a massage or facial, as I usually do, I’m spending the day in West Virginia canvassing for the candidate who’s a mom and who really has solid plans to make women’s lives better. I hope you will join me and celebrate Mother’s Day by supporting Hillary

There is a story in the NY Times with the headline Amid Talk of the Endgame Boos From the Crowd Clinton Carries on by John M. Broder. It is a completely erroneous story and I have written the following to the public editor:

Excuse me? I was there, at the Shepherdstown, West Virginia Clinton rally, while apparently Mr. Broder was not, but was instead somewhere in the ozone fantasying his own reality. Not only did no one boo Senator Clinton, the crowd was as friendly and supportive as they could be. There to report on the rally myself, I can tell you that out of the approximately two thousand mostly Clinton supporters in attendance, there were maybe three Obama signs in the crowd; the rest of the signs were for Hillary. This surprised me because Shepherdstown is the home of Shepherd University, a college town and a bastion of liberals — prime Obama territory. One rowdy kid got booed by the crowd for attacking Hillary on Iran, the crowd booing him with indignation in support of Senator Clinton. As I said, this event couldn’t have been a more loving environment for Mrs. Clinton or Chelsea the day after her candidacy was declared over by reporters like the bozo who wrote this story.

This is what Hillary is up against.

If you or your kids have money to throw away, why not give it to a food bank and feed some hungry children. Hillary and Bill Clinton earned over 109 million dollars over the last seven years. I don’t think they need your money.

Comment by Jimmy Karrveil | 2008-05-09 04:14:07

I need to retract ny previous statement. It seems Hillary Clinton does need your money. Her campaign is apparently in debt multi-millions of dollars, of which 11 million or so is owed to her and Bill (money she loaned her campaign from their personal fortune). So those kids will just have to go hungry so her campaign can pay her the eleven million dollars her campaign owes her. Sorry I did not know this at the time I made the statement.

Comment by JM | 2008-05-09 04:46:28

Nice try. How about Barack Obama donating some of the $250 million dollars his campaign has managed to raise to some of those local food banks? After all, he has outspent Hillary Clinton’s campaign anywhere from 3 to 5 times per state, and he still can’t close the deal.

Seems like a waste of money to me, don’t ya think?

Meanwhile in the House, Nancy (Fancy) Pelosi & dem. leadership (???) are considering making changes to the FISA law which would give the telecom industry immunity from illegally spying on us which is what Mr.”27%” Bush desires.

And the “Blue Dog” House democrats who vote with republicans, are fighting to remove benefits for veterans that are in the Iraq funding bill “because there hasn’t been a reduction in spending to cover the cost”!

I’m an old lady who remembers when democrats actually were the party of the people. Now dem. leadership doesn’t give a shit if telecom companies illegally spy on us or if veterans who have served our country are cared for…..and who do they support…..OBAMA…why???

Barry is doing what he has done all of his life, travelling the road of least resistance with whomever and whatever will move his ass forward. Like our present leadership, totally void of CHARACTER.

The spineless democratic congressional leadership certainly have set an impressive example in the congress..HA????? They will do anything to keep their staus quo position even to promoting a candidate whom mainstream citizens do not support and who is untried, unfit, unqualified and dishonest, as our nominee.

Hillary has proven her entire life that she has character, that she will work for change, her intellect incredible, her interest in our problems sincere, her smile welcoming and friendly…..thanks Donna for throwing longtime democrats like myself off the bus, we don’t want to be on your damn bus anyway!!

How do you think light bills are paid?

The government doesn’t make it’s own money, it taxes to get it.

It’s also not the responsibility of taxpayers to give the government a blank check.

You, I or anyone else tried writing blank checks that wasn’t secured with cash in the bank, we’ll be in jail for check fraud.

The government doesn’t operate any differently — and we’re not going to be taxed like Europe to compensate.

In a stunning display of arrogance unparalleled even for him, Obama is apparently not planning to campaign in West Virginia. He’s got too many other important things to do, since he’s planning to announce victory on May 20. His in-pocket media will say, “Clinton wins West Virginia, but Obama didn’t campaign there.” Oh, and, “When will she withdraw from the race.”

I’ve never in my life seen a candidate who is so spoiled, so entitled, that he doesn’t compete where he thinks he can’t win. He’s never lost a primary yet, either; it was either due to racism or Rush Limbaugh. He won’t debate, he won’t count the votes or revote. I know that he wishes he were born 800 years ago, where you were king by divine right. But he’s doing it as well as he can in this era. “L’etat, c’est moi.” “I have won the nomination!”

Comment by hillarysmygirl | 2008-05-08 15:39:03

Good, maybe she can take all 39 of West Virginia’s delegates if he doesn’t need them, thanks!

He doesn’t go to events that won’t get him new voters either: Black State of The Union, Dr. Martin Luther King Day Memorial. He doesn’t care about anyone but HIMSELF.

I cried and cried. I can feel her getting stronger. Pray for her, friends, if it is your bent. Pray for her strength and her positive energy, and her family and friends and supporters. Of course, I’m the kind of pray-er that also would say pray for BO, that he sees the truth and does the right thing (I leave what the truth and the right thing are to God).

Hillary is rising, straight to the top!! :-)

I will pray for you; that your eyes be opened to the truth. I will pray for Hillary that she will lose this lust for power and blind ambition. I will pray for this country that the evil that seeks to rise to the top sinks back to the depths where it belongs.

“I am so thoroughly disgusted with much of the Democratic party right now. I don’t know that the feeling will subside anytime soon, if ever.”

I feel your pain!

In my over 20 years of participation in this process, I have never had the opportunity to vote for someone who could pass all of my purity tests, but then I thought the first Clinton administration was Republican lite. However without hesitation I voted for the man twice.

I just don’t get such hyper partisanship between the rabid supporters of two fine candidates that are actually very close to each other on the issues (which of course makes them too conservative for my tastes).

Full disclosure, I voted for Obama, but would cast a ballot for Hillary with enthusiasm and without hesitation.

I just do not get the rancor on either side, but there does seem to be a belief on this side of the aisle that america will never vote for a black man and therefor if Obama gets the nomination America is DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!

I might have agreed with you a year ago…….today, not so much. Hell I would have said the same thing about a female candidate.

I guess I have a little more faith in this country now (obviously many here might not share that view).

When all this is said and done I hope that you will join me and support our party nominee for president.

I will vote for Hillary, and that’s it.

BO is totally unqualified and unfit for the office.

Nope, Not, Never, No way.
Wright, Ayers, Black Panthers, Bush/Cheney energy bill, exelon, Auchi, Rezko, no substantive legislative record, Black Liberation theology, Odinga, Lying about his childhood (he has never wanted for anything in his life- very privileged private school silver spoon in mouth upbringing- which is ok- lying about it in order to get votes is not ok.)
So, again, take your Unity Pony somewhere else, I don’t want to shovel the manure.

Let’s not forget running a disgusting, slime slurping, misogynistic campaign, along with democrat for a day; bullying and underhanded intimidating caucuses; raising the dead to vote and god knows what else that happened in Indiana to lower Hill’s win.
Vote for him? Over my cold dead body.

Just a couple of things you might want to read before you get carried away with your righteous indignation.

DONATE TO HILLARY TODAY.

I DID JUST NOW. The true test of your character is standing by the person you believe in, even in the darkest night. Hell, she’s not even that far behind. It’s the usual media feeding frenzy b.s.

Even if it’s only ten bucks, DONATE.

After reading the names that Senator Obama is called in these comments, I will never again object to my husband referring to Senator Clinton as “that Clinton c**t.” Apparently, that kind of nastiness is acceptable.

Wait…replying to myself here. I owe you folks an apology. It was a different article at this site.

Dawn — Do you have a problem with Obama calling Bill and Hillary Clinton racists? That was the deal breaker for me. Obama is not ready for Prime time I don’t care how many media people prop him up. His list of SD’s looks like a who’s-who of Democratic losers. When I look back and see how many of these gemopes I worked for I have to hang my head in shame.

The difference between the Democrats and Republicans is that the Republicans want to win. It won’t be too long before Obama is just a crossword puzzle question. Which Presidential Nominee lost more Democratic Voters than any other Nominee in history 5 letters.

I would certainly have a problem with Senator Obama if he called either President or Senator Clinton a racist, and I am sorry that you feel shame about the people you worked for.

To me the Democratic Party is the party of the little guy, the blue collar workers who work hard and play by the rules and have a right to expect their share of the American Dream. Obama in his arrogance cannot stand those voters. When I see Obama’s roster of SD’s and I see names like McGovern who cost us the election in 72 or Teddy Kennedy who blew it in 1980 or John Kerry who fucked up in 2004 — how dare these losers tell us Democrats its time to lose again with a man who cannot win an industrial state.

The only successful Democratic President in the last in the last 40 years has been Bill Clinton. His policies created 23 Million new jobs–consumer confidence was at an all time high as was America’s respect around the world
and for this he gets attacked by this roster of losers.

Today I am ashamed of my activism within the Democratic Party and all my years of party loyalty.

To be completely candid, I am an Independent (with liberal leanings) and my husband is a Libertarian (and is considerably more conservative than I). We usually vote for our third-party candidates because, until 2004, we really didn’t think there was that much difference in the D’s and R’s. By 2004, we’d seen exactly how much damage a non-thinking President can do, so we felt we needed to pick the best thinker this time around, regardless of party. I assumed he’d vote for the Republican nominee and I’d vote for Senator Clinton. What we never considered was that we’d both pick the same candidate.

From our outside-the-party perspective, it looks like the part of the Democratic base supporting Senator Clinton is moving toward the right. Of course, that’s an opinion from outside, so I understand that it has no impact on the in-party discussion.

I do hope that whatever happens, our country can recover from the horrific ineptitude and (again, my opinion) criminal actions of the Bush administration.

Please take a course in economics and study what caused the boom during the Clinton presidency. The economy grew despite what Bill Clinton tried to do, not because of it. In addition, the Republicans are responsible for jerking him back from devastating the economy he had. Hate to admit it, but that is what happened. Oh, and as you watch the jobs going to Mexico and on to China say thank you Bill. He followed through and got Nafta and the WTO off the ground just like his ‘daddy’, George Herbert Walker Bush wanted. The ‘fat cats’ made out like bandits and the working people got the shaft. Why do you think all these big corporations pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars to give a speech. Payback.
