Where’s Oprah??? ***Crickets***

Is anybody wondering where Oprah Winfrey is these days?

She seems to have gotten awfully quiet about The Incandescent One, don’t you think?

Here was a woman who was absolutely jubilant about Barack Obama. She drew huge crowds for his campaign. He was The One!

What happened???

It seems that the preponderance of her viewers are those nasty “expendible” Typical White Women–and they really took offense. Who knew? Consequently, after her trip into the Obama Camp, her ratings took a steady dive.

In January, 2007, Oprah enjoyed a 74% Favorability Rating. (USA/Gallop).

In May of 2007, Oprah announced she was endorsing her longtime friend, Barack Obama.

By August of 2007, Oprah’s ratings went down by 13 percentage points, and her favorability rating was 61%.

By October 2007, Oprah gained some points back and her rating was 66%.

Then she went on the stump with the Plastic Jesus, and visited South Carolina and New Hampshire with Him in December, 2007. Ten days later, Fox News/Opinion Dynamics conducted a poll and her favorability ratings dropped to 55%.

At that time, her negatives also rose, and 1 in 3 (33%) Americans had an “unfavorable” opinion of Oprah. Ironically, that 33% seems to match up with the one-third of Hillary supporters who would vote for a cockroach before they would vote for Barack Obama.

The good news was that Ellen DeGeneres’ popularity spiked. Wonder why?

The results of a March 26, 2008, AOL Television popularity poll of television hosts reveal Americans may now embrace Ellen DeGeneres over Oprah by a wide margin. Forty-six percent of the 1.35 millionpeople who participated in the poll said the daytime talk show host that “made their day” was Ellen, compared with only 19 percent who chose Oprah. Nearly half (47 percent) said they would rather dine with Ellen, compared with 14 percent who preferred Oprah.

So much for ignoring the impact of women in this upcoming Presidential race. If they can dive Oprah’s ratings, they can do anything. Just saying–in case Howard Dean is having a lucid moment between Far-Left Primal Screams.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that Oprah is a businesswoman first and a Barack Obama fan second. She figured out that Barack Obama is toxic to her ratings. After she threw herself into the Obama campaign, her site message boards were less about Oprah’s Favorite Things and more about Oprah being a traitor to women. Her viewers strongly resented Oprah shoving Barack Obama down their throats. So Oprah told her viewers that if Barack Obama wasn’t the nominee, she would “readjust” and back Hillary. So much for Oprah’s undying loyalty.

You can see more about the Oprah fan outrage here. In spite of the obvious Obamazoid attempt to refer to several of Oprah’s outraged fans “crazies” who wanted to hear about “recipes” and “decorating,” the message was clear: Crazies they weren’t, damned insulted they were. Damned insulted voters.

While I was more than amused at the time, I didn’t realize that in addition to her ratings problem, there was more to the disappearance of Oprah. Reverend Wright.

As we all know by now, Oprah was a member of Reverend Wright’s church at one time. But she left. In a hurry. Now why do you think that is?

It seems that Oprah was never comfortable with the tone of Wright’s more incendiary sermons., which she knew had the power to damage her standing as America’s favorite daytime talk-show host.

Isn’t it interesting that Barack Obama didn’t seem as uncomfortable with Reverend Wright as Oprah was? Isn’t it even more interesting that Oprah heard Wright’s “incendiary” sermons but Barack Obama didn’t — and he was a member of Obama’s church for a lot longer than Oprah was? Do you still believe that Barack Obama never heard Reverend Wright say the kind of vile, hateful racist things that we have been watching on youtube and television since March?

It also appears that, once Reverend Wright’s Greatest Hits appeared on our TV screens, Oprah’s website message boards were on fire over Reverend Wright.

Oprah just might be about to take another ratings dive. Is anybody willing to bet that we won’t be seeing Oprah hawking for The One any longer????

I wondered why she was giving away all that money (and not to Barky.) Guess she was trying to redeem herself.
Great article- thanks. Hope the supers get the message about how toxic it is to hook your wagon to BO.

Comment by Dan | 2008-05-08 09:26:25

all McCain needs to do is find ex members of that church who did find Wright offensive and decided to leave.

Should not be hard to do.

where’s geraldine?

Well I believe that Geraldine Ferraro is out there still offering her opinion and working side by side with Feminists…..
Oprah is BUSY TEACHING THE PLANET HOW TO BE BETTER HUMANS OPRAHSTYLE……ON THE OPRAHSPHERE…..AND BITING HER PILLOW….

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-08 09:57:16

We are comparing Oprah Winfrey to Geraldine Ferraro. Oh well, that one has legs.

Anything else?

Comment by Talktruth | 2008-05-08 09:57:34

Bwana, you do know that BO said the same thing about himself the Geraldine did? I thought so.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-05-08 13:00:08

And the campaign had to ask Ferraro to distance herself from Hillary so she is doing what is best for the one she supports. Not so with Oprah. You know Barack would love her to come out.

Oprah might not be speaking out, but her friends are. I went to a Marianne Williamson lecture last week. Marianne is a frequent guest on Oprah’s tv program, and one of “Oprah’s Friends Network” on XM radio. She teaches “A Course in Miracles” (for those who aren’t familiar with her).

Marianne has a new book out, and she does 3 hour lectures (admission by paid ticket only) during these tours. Near the end of the lecture, Marianne built in some 15 minutes to stump speak for Obama. She knew she had to be careful, we paid to attend, and we did not pay to attend a campaign rally, but that didn’t stop her.

My resentment for that technique is that Marianne knew she had a captive audience who were listening to her every word, and seeing her as a master in A Course in Miracles.

Did you really think that up all by yourself?

Hint: That’s a trick question.

To be fair, Oprah is also dealing with the fallout of the sexual harassment/abuse of children in her South African school. That also may have impacted her ratings, since someone that versed in “subjects” folks would assumed would’ve vetted the school staff.

What makes it worse is, what the Republicans have said about Oprah actually came true. That will play even worse come the GE.

If Obama doesn’t get the nomination, and the riots begin, I also don’t believe folks will take much solace in Oprah’s words about “unity” and “peace”, since she didn’t support Obama because he was the best candidate, but because he’s from Chicago and he claims to be Black. She crossed the line, and now her empire is sealed with Obama’s.

Probably will be the biggest casualty of the campaign, both in lost revenue and public respect if it comes down to race riots in November.

I don’t think so. I have heard several women say they were really angry about her endorsement, but no one I know blames her for what happened at the school. She handled it quickly as soon as she found out and did not try to cover it up or defend the adults.

Oprah should have stuck to selling books. She was excellent at propelling them to bestsellers, it was a much harder sell to propel this “made for rhetoric TV” candidate who was an empty book with a slate filled with bad news.

Before Wright appeared on our TV screens there were many sites linking to Trinity Church’s website. After reading their extreme views I didn’t need to see those clips that came out months later, I already knew they were “out there” in their platform.

Of course soon after the general public started to give the church’s website multiple hits it turned down it’s racist agenda and scrubbed the site of the most offensive pages. Those pages were saved from what I’ve read by people who are writing books on this Remarkable Sham.

I am not the type to watch Ellen or Oprah or the View etc. and I certainly wouldn’t give my thoughts on things over to any Hype artist, even the political kind… and especially Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, McGovern etc. who clearly did not have any of their own advice in their own attempts to win.

Great work, Uppity. The Supers had better realize what a huge chance they’re taking if they back Obama. It just could be a career-breaker… even for elites like Kennedy and Kerry. Just wait until the full scope of Obama’s associations with terrorists, racists and corruption finally breaks into the MSM.
Even for the Supers who come from districts heavy with Obama support, once Obama is shown to be the corrupt looser that he is, that support could melt away in a very short time. Then there will be nowhere to hide for those Supers who will have to answer this: “You knew about Obama… and still you voted for him” The voters won’t take the blame… they’ll blame all those Super Delegates who voted him in as the Dem nominee, and rightly so. The Supers are supposed to save us from posers like the Precious One.

Comment by Nag | 2008-05-08 09:58:54

I forgot… if this could happen to Oprah, who has been wildly popular for so long, it could happen to ANY Super Delegate who votes for Obama.

OK, I’m done. :)

That alone as small as it is should show the DNC what can happen if they don’t fix this Obama mess, people seem to ignore that or underestimate the voters.

All I keep hearing about is this AA vote and they cant win without it, but it sure looks like someone is not seeing the bigger picture here.

A few months back I signed into the Oprah message boards and let my voice be heard concerning what I thought of her … of her politics … and of her racism. Yes .. Oprah’s racism. There is NO OTHER reason why she would have suddenly jumped into politics and ‘endorsed’ someone after all these years of being quiet. A black guy came along and … HER TRUE COLORS SHOWED. (grin)

So .. feel free to do as I did. Hit the Oprah message board and let her know what you think.

Comment by Kathy | 2008-05-08 11:21:35

I have already e-mailed Oprah. Never heard back.

What I want to know is will there will be riots when Obama loses the election?

>>> To be fair

“Fair” is where you go to eat cotton candy and smell monkey poop.

Here’s what’s going to happen if Obama get the nomination or wind the GE:

Each time another assertion of mendacity in his choice of friends and/or supporters emerges, the Internation Brotherhood of Eternal Pathos will crank up the, “The White Man won’t LET a Brother succeed! It’s PREJUDICCE!!” machine and make veiled threats to light up the inner cities again in an effort to intimidate the MSM and non-AA Americans into acquiesence or silence.

Bet heavy on that…

Axelrod’s attempt to dupe women voters into voting for Obama failed, and Oprah had to pay the price. Yes, Oprah is a businesswoman, and Harpo Studios means more to her than a career politician who calls the south side of Chicago his home.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-08 19:40:34

there is a video out there of oprah at a rally. she is doing a rude imitation of white women dissing her for supporting barry. it is not a pretty site. she ends with i am a free black woman. i bet she and michelle have the loviest little chats.

Comment by pm317 | 2008-05-08 11:21:17

Plastic Jesus, hahaha. love the way you write, Uppity.

I think it was a concerted effort from the Plastic. It was to peel off Clinton’s women’s support but it backfired. Who knew that women can think for themselves? At least the two O’s did not think we do. She thought it was like her book club thingy — we would go all rushing to buy her product.

You see his and DNC’s strategy is clear in hindsight:
peel off Clinton’s women’s support through Oprah;
peel off working class support through caucuses;
peel off black support through race baiting;

Comment by votermom | 2008-05-08 11:50:21

And Ellen Degeneres’ ratings have been steadily rising during the same period. She supports Hillary. Coincidence? I think not! :)

Oprah is opening with Cher and Tina Turner at Caesar’s here in LV in the next two weeks. It’s billed as, “Oprah, Cher and Tina,” show.

Oprah is the Top of the Bill.

I’m sorry, but I have No Recollection of Oprah (despite her heritage) having ANY talent in the singing and dancing realms.

Smells like a Career-Rehabilitator to me.

I’m in the photo business in Los Angeles, and I’ve been on five shoots with Oprah. I’ve been to her house in Santa Babara, and spent a whole day with her, just me the photographer and her. I can tell you Oprah is not a nice person. She is incredibly arrogant, she does not acknowledge you, she talks down out you, looks down her nose at you. She brags about her 3000 twill turkish towels, she boasts about her unique roses that she had created especially for her. No one in the world has that rose except her blah blah blah! She bosses the crew around just to create kayos. She insults the photographer constantly just to exert her power. I’m telling you this woman is not a good person. I’ve worked with all the big celebrities, and I’ve never met anyone as mean as Oprah (except maybe Susan Sarandon). So I’m glad her ratings are dropping. Karma is a Bitch Oprah!

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-08 20:13:27

I am not a daytime TV watcher so I can’t judge her very well. The few times I have seen her I thought she was an ok lady. I just think she was plain dumb to stick her nose into this race and I think she realizes it now. What happened with her I think is this: Ophrah NEVER gets involved with politics and she suddenly jumped right in for Obama. That was perceived as a racial choice and it hurt her with her audiences.

Comment by jyotinc | 2008-05-08 20:17:00

I’m not watching Oprah anymore. She only supported Obama because of color, that’s all.

I don’t watch Oprah often, I didn’t watch her when she brought out Barack. I do remember her having Arnold Swartnagger(sp?) on to announce his run for Governor of California. That was it for me, I never watched her again.

Comment by Ron from S.F. | 2008-05-09 01:56:12

Of late oprah has been spending more time with Tom Cruise than Barak. As a matter of fact, Barak has disappeared from her show. She seems to have moved on to other topics. A TV talk show host playing at politics is always at more risk than a politician playing at politics. Politicians don’t have to worry about ratings. It seems to be more fun to have people give away money. And more popular than political endorsments.
