NARAL Endorses Sexist Obama [Update]

UPDATE: 6:15 p.m. TONIGHT: Members of Congress To Hold Press Conference On Hillary’s Strong Pro-Choice Record (DETAILS AT END OF STORY)
__________

Washington, DC, elites convinced yet another Democratic interest group, NARAL “Pro-Choice” America, to endorse Barack Obama. Will Obama repudiate the support of this “interest group?” I doubt it, but I am sure he would ask Hillary or John Edwards to refuse the endorsement if NARAL would have acted in their interests and endorsed one of the other Democrats before the Iowa Caucuses. But then again, NARAL also endorses Republicans. Perhaps NARAL really is the joke everyone tells me it is.

And on the same day a group that ostensibly supports the rights of women endorsed a male candidate for President, that candidate decided to refer to a woman who holds the professional title of Reporter as “sweetie.”

Not only did “sweetie” never receive an answer to her question as Obama vainly pandered to lunch bucket Democrats who will never vote for him; “sweetie” and a lot of women who desire rights were betrayed by the organizations who should defend them. Remember that Obama voted PRESENT on choice legislation in the Illinois state Senate.

Also remember that Obama accompanied his wife to her job interview, as HE had to approve her employer before HE would allow her to undertake the position. I quote:

“I can remember sitting in [a restaurant] booth, with Barack on the other side, interrogating me in the nicest possible way,” Jarrett said.

“I can’t think of many people you hire who say, `I’d like you to meet my fiancé,’ but I would have done just about anything to get Michelle.”

And how can anyone ever forget Obama’s attempt to woo female reporters on his campaign plane by gratuitously straddling the aisle and placing his crotch on full display for all the “sweeties” in the press core.

Thank you, NARAL and Democrats. Thank you for reminding us once again that sexism will always trump competence and experience. Thank you once again for reminding us that the Democratic Party is a party in which women are “sweeties” who should never occupy positions of power.

I’ve posted on the NARAL site. They have already received thousands of angry posts. If you have something cogent to say, please post as well.

This is the letter I sent to NARAL today. I hope everyone writes or emails.

NARAL Pro-Choice America
1156 15th Street, N.W., Suite 700
Washington, D.C. 20005

Dear NARAL:

Your decision to endorse Senator Obama over Senator Clinton is beyond belief.

In politics, I learned long ago that there is no loyalty to anyone when questions of access, power and prestige are involved. For some idiotic reason, I believed that NARAL was better than that. You are not.

You know full well that Senator Clinton has done more for women’s rights, including abortion rights, than any other member of the Senate, and certainly far more than Senator Obama. When she was First Lady, the message that Hillary Clinton carried to the belly of the beast in Beijing at the World Conference on Women was awe-inspiring. Throughout her career, she has never wavered. Today, you demonstrated for all of the world to see that you have neither the courage nor the loyalty to support a strong, accomplished woman whose proven track record on your issues should have made your endorsement decision automatic and easy.

NARAL is no longer welcome in my house.

Fantastic letter, HonestLawyer.

God, I’m seething mad at the corruption and weak-willed stance of so many in the Dem establishment!

Comment by rationalpsychic | 2008-05-15 01:18:41

I’d trust your opinions and views, but I suspect you are really trolls. Neither of you made it so a person can respond to your blog, e-mail, etc.

Comment by Nicole | 2008-05-15 08:53:14

Hey Irrational, you’re a lousy psychic!…and troll. By the way, I’ve been coming here for months and I’ve never seen your (oxymoronic) moniker before.

Comment by rationalpsychic | 2008-05-15 12:10:52

OK, you haven’t seen me on here before. There’s still not a link attached to your name. There is a link to mine. You’re welcome to visit my blog anytime.

Oxymoronic. Good description. If I’d had more patience I would have come up with a palindrome instead. Palindromic would be a more entertaining descriptive.

My post there…

Always wondered about special interest groups, and how they could even stomach the BS they spew. They often claim to be about “rights” and for the “public good”, but when they get large they tend to forget their purpose. They lose it because they spend more time trying to get money, and the way to do so is the mad push for power.

So NARAL who are you REALLY representing today?

Who said abortion had to be on demand? Who said that life could and should be killed just because it’s more easy than being responsible (women aren’t China dolls, afterall)?

Why is there no compromise, just a black and white answer?

I firmly believe that women should have rights to her body, and the State has no business abusing it — but I also can’t endorse conduct that makes the “abortion on demand” possible.

Something has to give, as the message it teaches — especially to young girls — is they can have everything without facing the consequences.

It’s not fair to women to be treated as irresponsible children, and society who has to face the fallout of these decisions to terminate the life — it’s never easy, just like PTS a pet [and if you’re a pet lover, that decision for even an animal haunts you forever].

That NARAL would endorse Obama to remain in power to peddle the very same behavior that traps women, it suits this organization; for Obama’s campaign is the most sexist I’ve seen in living memory (and I’m over 40).

NARAL, you’re just another roadblock to the ERA, itself.

For shame.

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-05-14 18:17:52

From a poster at the NARAL site (luckily it’s the national office making the statement, not state offices)…

By MostQualified on May 14, 2008 7:07 PM

I just got off the phone with NARAL NY. They said that it was the National NARAL office that endorsed Oblique without consulting with ANY of their affiliates. Here is a statement they issued this morning:

May 14, 2008 Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President. This decision was made internally by NARAL Pro-Choice America, based in Washington D.C., and without the consultation of the NARAL state affiliates across the country. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will not be issuing an endorsement at this time. NARAL Pro-Choice New York believes that this endorsement in the Democratic primary is premature. We are fortunate to have two pro-choice candidates in Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Barack Obama. When a nominee is named, NARAL Pro-Choice New York will stand proudly with the pro-choice Democratic candidate in order to defeat anti-choice Republican candidate John McCain in November.

Comment by bamaoil | 2008-05-14 16:41:10

Edwards is connected to Trippi, and to Dean, and Axelrod.

Enough said, if it’s true, but I thought it would happen.

Someone on K** made a very cryptic post once saying Obama and Edwards cut a deal to stop Clinton, even before Edwards suspended his race.

At the time, I thought, garbage.

Now, I’m not so sure.

Too bad.

But it sure helps explain why Washington is so fucked up.

And next time you want to know WHY we went to war with Iraq, (and we can admit it was a disaster), look at this campaign, and how these politicians whore themselves.

Period.

Couldnt find their assholes with a map and a flashlight, and dumber than a brick.

See why Edwards was marginal, too?

Comment by Nicole | 2008-05-14 20:55:57

Sad to say, I think Gore is just another pol. Although he has taken his global warming crusade far and wide, and rightly deserves credit for that, I bet he is as ambitious and calculating as the rest of the establishment. An acquaintance of mine, who worked in the Clinton administration–had dealings from time to time with both Clinton and Gore…he loved Bill but never took to Gore, who he found elitist and cold. Interestingly, there was some vague reference to Gore stepping in to prevent some form of policy (penalty) against the tobacco companies in the ’90s, because of his state and family interests…

Un-freakin-believable.

And yet, not at all surprising.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-14 16:49:38

I simply cannot understand how any self respecting woman can vote for this sexist pig. He is the reason his campaign is so rude to women. Shit rolls downhill. Fortunately, a HUGE block of women recognize that shit from people like this man rolls downhill into the workplace. They fought too hard for their rights to allow a misogynist to become president. They will be one more large group of voters who will help to defeat him if he gets to November. Unfortunately their daughters didn’t have to participate in the struggle for respect in the workplace, so they have no clue that Barack Obama is a huge Red Flag. Barack Obama is experienced at the art of subjugating women and putting them in “their places”. He bamboozles the young crowd because they don’t see signs of things they never experienced before.

Barack Obama has a major problem he is not going to be able to fix, mainly because of what he is, because, gratefully, the baby boomers are a large voting block. Those women will never vote for this sexist pig. That is also probably one of several why senior women hate him. They watched their daughters grow and achieve and succeed in the fight for respect and dignity. The other reason is they recognize bullcrap when they see it.

I have been around through plenty of elections, and one thing my circle of friends all agree on: We have never seen a presidential candidate who is more dangerous to the rights of women than Barack Obama. We are almost amazed at just how vile he is, way past submliminal even.

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-05-14 16:52:26

Women do not think the world is sexist their first few years in the workplace. It takes a few years, into your thirties, before you really see it. It took me until this campaign to see it’s been happening all along.

Comment by bamaoil | 2008-05-14 16:52:36

Have you noticed that the people endorsing him are all marginal talents, the worst the democratic party has to offer, to a person, the REASON the democrats have failed so catastrophically over the past 30 years, and will, again? .

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-14 20:42:36

the REASON the democrats have failed so catastrophically over the past 30 years, and will, again? .

I think the real reason we can’t elect more presidents is every decade, the far far fringe brings us these candidates that the middle cannot endure. The majority of the Democratic party is the most quiet …and they are moderates. That is why only one of our two presidents in the past 30 years served two terms. And they villify him for it besides. They just never learn.

Barack is digging himself deeper with working class women and with women women. When was the last time someone thought you’d love to be ‘complimented’ by some handsome married guy calling you sweetie? If he were in Berkelely he’d be run off the sidewalk with such a dismissive ‘one-size-fits-all’ non compliment. Especially when we get to ‘a certain age’ we’re supposed to be oh so grateful for the attention? There was no reason for NARAL to endorse so close to the end of voting other than to insult her, let her know they think it’s already over. Women, we’re our own second to worst enemies.

John Edwards did what he had to do in order not to be marginalized in the future. It’s politics. The real problem for Barry is in the voting booth. Because Americans don’t give a shit about party wheeling and dealing.

Here’s hoping he makes it to August without one of those skeletons falling out of the closet. Just saying.

Comment by Bud White | 2008-05-14 17:05:51

Well, of course FL & MI were punished beyond 50% to deprive Hillary a win and then BO played the race card in SC (who wasn’t punished) and Hillary wasn’t allowed to capitalize on her very real wins in MI & FL so the media narrative never let her be the front runner after New Hampshire. I was on the way home from work and there was some talk radio guy on, a democrat, and the subject was gun control and he dropped the whole subject and went NUTS about the “sweetie” story. People were calling in with other times ob had done this and somebody faxed him some news reports covering it.

The radio guy’s name was Chris, he is local from North East PA, and he brought up how ob said the exact same thing over and over and he was outraged how this sexist pig was actually considered presidential material by some voters. He was begging for Obama supporters to call in and try to spin it away. Chris was aching to blast anybody that thought this type of talk was acceptable from any man to what he thought might have been the lone female PROFESSIONAL in the room with all these auto workers and his male entourage. He started out a little ticked off and worked up to fury.

I was saying “hell yeah, tell it” all the way.

It’s too bad though because I used to have a high opinion of him–figured his clock was cleaned during the primaries because he was boring next to Clinton and Obama.

But it turns out the man is simply a hypocrite and a weenie.

To do this after Hillary’s crushing victory in WV just pushes me that much further away from the Democratic mafia.

He really didn’t have a choice if he wanted to ever run again in NC.

Race is a club now, and they’re using it to make sure the politicians know who provides the butter, to butter the bread.

Was expecting this — along with the calls for “unity”.

Push 17 million voters along for a movie even Hollyweird wouldn’t dare produce. And guess what? Over half will go along with it (unless they see through the smoke and mirrors, which I doubt, as humans are a herd ever waiting to be eaten by others).

There is no way I wish to be associated with him, his supporters or his friends.

The RNC is no friend and I dislike them as well.
But the DNC and the media need to learn a lesson. a “transformational lesson”. A lesson they need to remember for generations to come.
And I think 4 more years of sacrifice is worth to pay back the DNC and media for their sexism, bigotry and
hate. yes, the DNC and the media hate us, Clinton supporters. Make no mistake about it. They despise us, they insult us, and they constantly undermine us.

Well, I am as highly educated as they come and I wll not tolerate their trashing. I do not have to.

People will say voting for McCain is voting against our interests. Perhaps.

But I know clearly that: (1) I will vote
for the Dem. for Congress and hold them accountable to do their jobs (2) voting for Obama will definitely go against my interests as well.

So who do I want to be betrayed and screwed by? A fellow Dem. who couldn’t care less about me, my values, the needs of the people he is supposed to serve and whose damage (because he is a Dem.) would fatally wound the
Dems for a long time; or a Rep. ?

I would say a Rep.

At least I know what to expect from him and can blame him freely.

I am sorry Sen. Clinton but should you not be the nominee I will not “unite behind” such an embarrassing fraud under the Dem. banner: the DNC certainly does NOT deserve such loyalty.

As for NARAL; they are a joke. And if memory serves me last I heard of them they supported Alito.

Are you a troll?

Reads like he’s one, especially a GOPer who likes to splash rhetoric he seems to not understand TOO splash.

Can’t betray the ideology, no matter how thick the lipstick. They’ll be uncovered eventually.

About NARAL’s endorsement.

As I said before, it’s ALL about special interests justifying their interest. The only way such a group could exist is if they can fill their coffers (i.e., have jobs) and influence (why those jobs exist).

They’re backing who has power to keep their jobs and influence.

And why I dislike special interest politics with a passion. It’s rarely about the subject matter when these groups get very large — it’s the hunger to dominate the agenda, and get the perks to do so.

Comment by LilRod | 2008-05-14 17:24:05

As soon as I received the e-mail from NARAL, I unsubscribed & sent them a reason why.

I am so angry that I can hardly type. To endorse this empty incompetent over Hillary whose long history of support for the issues important for NARAL members equals none.

Is this country going nuts???

This is just beyond logic and reason

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-05-14 17:28:57

Is this country going nuts???

Business as usual: power and money.

In politics, that’s all that matters. Who or what is thrown under the bus, it doesn’t matter, because power needs money, and they’ll do anything to get it.

If it comes down to McCain or Obama …. I’m going with McCain. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing I gave Obama a vote. He’s a vile sexist racist pig. At least we know McCain would be a one term lame duck and then Hillary would be POTUS in 2012. The thought of Michelle Obama and Barry in the White House turns my stomach.

Wonder what Barry promised John Edwards? Cabinet position? VP?

Wonder what Barry promised John Edwards? Cabinet position? VP?

He didn’t need to promise anything. All he needed to do is show NC demographics.

Edwards is cornered. If he endorsed Hillary, Home boyz career would’ve been finished in NC — and where could he resettle to get it back (SC has the same demographics)?

Bob Barr (L) is looking very good at the moment…….

Couldn’t he just have kept his damned mouth shut like he had been doing up to this point? What calamity could have trounced his future political or other carreer in North Carolina by saying that he was not choosing sides, and would whole-heartedly support the Democratic nominee, when that question was settled at the convention?

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-15 11:08:03

No. He got something. They all get something. Payday at the Obama residence.

Why is everyone so surprised? NARAL endorsed Joe Lieberman and helped give us Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. Did you seriously think NARAL would endorse Hillary?

Look, there’s only one thing that matters to NARAL head Nancy Keenan–money. With NARAL endorsing the “presumptive nominee” she can go out and raise buckets of money (that she will do nothing but sit on).

NARAL is incompetent. They lost their credibility on pro-choice matters ages ago when they chose to support “Rape Gurney” Joe.

Comment by Emily Pickett | 2008-05-14 17:39:52

Yes, I thought they would support Hillary.
I expected they would. I am in shock over this.

Barack Obama is pro choice, but not really, but really. Have you ever heard him dance around this issue? It’s a blast. Barack Obama thinks he is all things to all people but in fact he is nothing to anybody. Because he is a pussy, just like Deval Patrick.

I’m a former tv/radio news reporter/producer and I’m incensed at BO’s “good-ole-boy” treatment of the female journalist. He’s a sexist PIG!

If BO dupes this country and becomes president and Iran threatens to attack us and Christiane Amanpour asks Obama what he plans to do, do you think he’ll say “we’ll have a presser in a minute, sweetie.”

effen NO he WON’T! this mofo makes my gut turn.

OBAMA TODAY IN MICHIGAN IS ASKED A QUESTION BY A FEMALE REPORTER AND HE’S RESPONDS, JUST A MINUTE SWEETIE. THIS IS SECOND TIME HE’S REFERRED TO WOMEN AS SWEETIE. THEN THERE IS THAT VIDEO OF MICHELLE OBAMA, ETC. EDWARDS ACTUALLY SAID A LOT OF NICE THINGS ABOUT HILLARY ALTHOUGH HIS TIMING IS A STAB IN THE BACK. HAD OBAMA SUPPORTERS HAD A SHRED OF INTEGRITY TO SPEAK THE SAME WAY THERE WOULDN’T BE THIS BACKLASH NOT TO MENTION A LOT OF THE TALKING HEADS FOR THE DNC. I’VE BEEN A VERY LIBERAL, PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT MY ENTIRE ADULT LIFE AND I WILL NEVER SUPPORT OBAMA BECAUSE OF HOW THEY HAVE RUN THEIR CAMPAIGN AND EVEN WORSE HOW HATEFUL A WING OF THE DNC IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO WRESTLE FOR POWER HAVE BASHED THE CLINTONS (THAT IS WHAT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE PARTY).HOW ANYONE CAN TALK ABOUT RACISM WHEN THE CLINTONS HAVE CLEARLY BEEN FIGHTING FOR AA WHEN OBAMA WAS JUST A CHILD. HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN FIGHTING FOR WOMEN, CHILDREN AND AFRICAN AMERICANS HER ENTIRE LIFE AND THIS GUY WALKS IN AND WILL BE GIVEN THE JOB WITH OUT PAYING ANY DUES TO ANY GROUP NOT EVEN THE AA. THAT IS TYPICAL SEXISM AND THE DNC IS EATING THERE OWN. EXCUSE THE CAPS BUT I’M MAD AS HELL AT THE IGNORANCE ONCE AGAIN IN THIS COUNTRY.
