Hillary: “It’s About What’s Right For Oregon” [UPDATE!]

UPDATE Via TexasDarlin: Another poll that shows a TIE in votes already mailed (49-49) / This one shows overall BO 50 — HRC 45 / We can pull out an upset in Oregon. (ALL HANDS ON DECK! GO to HillaryClinton.com and sign up for phone calls!)

It’s About What’s Right For Oregon
30-second television spot to air statewide

The Clinton Campaign launched a new ad in Oregon today, emphasizing that while the pundits in Washington focus on who’s up and who’s down, Hillary Clinton will focus on what’s right for Oregon families..

The 30-second spot, entitled “What’s Right,” details Hillary’s commitment to end the No Child Left Behind Act and provide quality, affordable health care for every American. And it emphasizes Hillary’s opposition to the Bush Administration energy bill, which removed local control over the siting of liquefied natural gas terminals on Oregon’s coast.

Following is the script for the ad.

Hillary for President
“What’s Right”
TV :30

ANNCR: In Washington, they talk about who’s up and who’s down.
In Oregon, we care about what’s right and what’s wrong.

She’s the one who will end No Child Left Behind so we teach children to learn, not take tests.

She’s the one who voted against the Bush energy bill that threatens liquefied natural gas plants along Oregon’s coast.

She’s the one insisting on health coverage for every American

She’s been right when it matters.
She’ll be there when it counts.

HRC: I’m Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

DRAt!
I found a poll in Oregon (see below)

Poll shows Obama leading Clinton in Oregon

10:09 AM PDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Associated Press

Portland, Ore. (AP) — A new poll shows Barack Obama with a huge lead over Hillary Clinton in Oregon as the state heads into the final week before its primary election votes are counted.

Obama led 55 percent to 35 percent over Clinton among Oregon voters surveyed — a lead considered nearly insurmountable.

The poll of 400 likely Democratic voters across the state has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.

The fact that Obama is favored by a percentage of voters well beyond that margin of error this close to the election suggests his victory in Oregon is nearly certain.

The statewide polling was conducted May 8-10 by Davis, Hibbitts & Midghall for the Portland Tribune and KPTV.

Comment by John | 2008-05-16 11:43:29

I believe that poll. Oregon is the Maryland of the West Coast; a land of latte-swilling white elitists desperate to show the country (and themselves) that they are colorblind despite the fact that they live in overpriced houses on tree-lined streets in overwhelmingly white neighborhoods, associate almost exclusively with fellow whites (but love to have at least one token black friend they can use to show off at parties and prove their “liberalism”) and slap Think Globally Act Locally stickers on their SUVs.

I live in Takoma Park, one of the most amazingly pretentious suburbs in an area filled with pretentious suburbs. There are SUVs and Obama signs everywhere around here. I’m sure Oregon looks very much the same.

Comment by Kathy | 2008-05-16 12:14:40

The newest poll has her down by 5.

I suggest you go to http://katu.com and search for a poll. they did a robocall poll last week on the voters. I did participate.

Bear in mid the polls are not a good sampling here so I wouldn’t give much credence. I thik Hillary will win by 51-53%..that’s just my guess.
We are heavily for Bill who did so much for Oregon and Portland

Ah R U one of the millions that wish to take back their Obambi votes?

I bet a LOT of people in Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, you know, all the EARLIER states wish they could take it back.

I would. BAmbi was actually my FIRST choice (about a year ago after I realized WES wasn’t running) until his WIFE started opening her nasty mouth.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-05-16 13:51:03

Wes gal here, too. Funny thing, I was actually going to vote for Obama just because he was black. I wanted to see all those rich repubs’ in my family, heads explode. But I figured he’d already been vetted, right? I mean, the DNC wouldn’t shove some young, unknown wannabe possibly linked to unsavory charactors, onto the national stage, right? NO ONE can be that stupid, right? But the moment Michelle(YIKES)Obama came out with the ’stinky’ comment then the ‘Keep your own house in order’ comment, I knew she was a vicious, spiteful, bovine. She does not belong in the White House. Damn, she makes Mrs. Reagan seem like Grandma Moses.

Jason- You only took the results from one poll of Oregon, the one that shows the highest number for Obama.

RCP Average 05/01 - 05/11 – 53.3 39.0 Obama +14.3

Portland Tribune 05/08 - 05/10 400 LV 55 35 Obama +20.0

PPP (D) 05/10 - 05/11 949 LV 53 39 Obama +14.0

SurveyUSA 05/09 - 05/11 615 LV 54 43 Obama +11.0

Rasmussen 05/01 - 05/01 867 LV 51 39 Obama +12.0

American Research Group shows this poll:

May 16, 2008 - Oregon Democratic Primary Preference
Oregon
Democrats May 14-16
Clinton 45%
Obama 50%
Undecided 5%

We also have to remember that Obama has often underperformed in the race from what the polling stated.

He may still win Oregon, and he’s dumping plenty of money on ads there, much more than Hillary can afford. Let’s see if his money will buy him the 20% lead that he wants.

Comment by Jason | 2008-05-16 11:11:53

I answered her question - she asked what the latest poll said. Go look at this page:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html

It shows the dates on which the polls were taken so I clicked on the most recent one.

You seem to have found one from today, so that is the most recent one. I’m a little surprised one from yesterday shows 20% and today shows 5%.

I suppose all that shows is what those polls are actually worth.

We’ll find out on Tuesday what the real number is.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-05-16 11:14:09

Man, that’s close!

Comment by Jason | 2008-05-16 11:33:04

Don’t get too excited, their track record is pretty bad.

Looking back through some of their polls (actual tally in parentheses):
OH - HRC + 14% (+10)
PA - HRC + 16% (Clinton +9.2%)
North Carolina - Obama + 8% (Obama +14.7%)
Indiana - HRC +8% (HRC +1.4%)
West Virginia - HRC +43% (HRC +41)

So they aren’t very good at this - HRC always polls higher than actual and BO polls lower. Maybe they are getting better at it since they almost nailed WV but the 3 previous states are pretty far off.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-05-16 11:35:42

They were on the nose with Texas. I looked on their site.

What threw them off was the turn-out of AAs initially.

Oregon, however, should be easier to project turn-out.

Comment by NCgal | 2008-05-17 06:02:38

I think it’s pretty interesting that the polls were most extremely “wrong” on May 6th in NC AND Indiana. That was “game-changer” day. That was the day the media locked onto the “It’s over” storyline, and have since ignored Hillary.

It’s not just Republicans that know how to “tweak” elections. Now I understand why that, despite plenty of evidence of rigging and fraud in 2000 and 2004, the Democratic Party was silent about it. If they truly investigate, they kill their own chances to play with election results when they “need” to.

This is not about party. It’s about power. And the powerful are behind Obama. And his pitiful followers thiink he is a man of the people. It makes me sad.

Comment by PDXEric | 2008-05-17 12:36:38

Obama also made three critical errors in Oregon. The first was not agreeing to a debate. The second was his arrogant pronouncement that he would be the nominee after the Oregon primary. The third was his dismissal of the town hall on Oregon’s Channel 8 last night. One half hour was offered to each candidate but Obama refused to speak to voters in this way. Thus, Hillary got one full hour to discuss her plans, her record of experience, intricate knowledge of the issues and her tenacity and grit with undecided voters. I’ve been on the phones in Oregon and there are many undecided voters out there. Historically, undecided voters break for Hillary. In addition, attendance at ballot drop events last week by Bill Clinton were double and sometimes triple the expected number of people…that’s a great gauge of what is happening. This vote will be much closer than anyone is predicting. She has a shot at a win here - so, Oregon, we need your volunteer hours to make calls, knock on door, etc. Even a close loss would be a blow to the Obama campaign (of course the media would never refer to it as a “sqeaker” as was the case in Indiana. Keep fighting the good fight, Hillary. In the beginning you told us you were in it to win. Well, we’re in it to win it for you as well!

ARG oregon Poll. They were right about WV
Its 50 to 45 and 5% undecided.
Clinton and Obama are tied at 49% each among voters saying they have returned their ballots (58% of likely Democratic primary voters) and Obama leads 52% to 40% among voters saying they will definitely return their ballots by May 20th.
20% of likely Democratic primary voters say they would never vote for Hillary Clinton in the primary and 22% of likely Democratic primary voters say they would never vote for Barack Obama in the primary.

If this is true?

Oh man……there are so many Dems who are going to look completely stupid.

Comment by bamaoil | 2008-05-16 11:50:40

Personally, I think polls are the easiest to fix, I wouldn’t give any of them a second thought, as it’s so easy to manipulate them, to paint a false picture.

God help anyone who only reads numbers…

OTOH, it would be nice if Clinton were able to swing the thing, to the truth.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-05-16 13:56:49

ARG was within 2 pts on WVA.

They are showing her 65% in KY and within 5% in Oregon.

And take a look at the head to head polls on RCP.

OMIGOD……he’s losing even in Kansas now and she’s way ahead there.

He’s taking so fast, it’s nuclear!

I think the “nuclear” plan was actually some inside polling that convinced the Clinton campaign that she may well beat him even in Oregon!

Good golly….that’s going to really shake the boys up.

Bill Clinton has been all over Oregon, including up and down the Oregon Coast where people had never, ever seen a current or past president. Also, an area which is reeling from job losses and 19% living below the poverty level. He made the trip with a nice young AA representative from Florida who supports Hillary. Hillary is here now. She will have a town hall meeting tonight -televised. Obama is off somewhere else thinking the election is over. The SuperDelegates need to weigh in these last contests.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 18:32:57

Why I’m Turning Down Obama
Friday, May 16, 2008

“Operation Turndown” has deep roots in my own personal radical politics.

If Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee for president, I will not vote for him.

I will turn him down.

Judging from callers to “Corbett” yesterday, so will many other Democrats.

Democrats must follow their hearts and their heads.

I’m part of an impromptu movement born of outrage and frustration to.

Operation TURN DOWN continues today please join us by emailing call in and voicing you will NOT vote for Obama http://wilknetwork.com/pages/322229.php

Comment by JoeCHI | 2008-05-16 11:17:14

This November:

1. A write-in vote for Clinton, IS A VOTE FOR OBAMA

2. A vote for nobody, IS A VOTE FOR OBAMA

3. A vote for McCain, IS A VOTE FOR CLINTON

Because:

1. If Obama wins in the fall, Hillary will never be President and her and Bill are sent out to pasture as the Democratic party becomes the party of the Obamas

2. If Obama loses in the fall, Hillary becomes the de facto leader of the Democratic party and presumptive nominee in 2012

Will you allow the likes of the DNC, MSNBC, et al. to take away your vote, or will you take material steps to re-take control of your party and your country?

It’s up to you!

Comment by John | 2008-05-16 11:54:11

I dont exactly agree with your second point-as much as I would love to see President Hillary Clinton, I think that if she doesn’t make it this year, she never will- but I think the rest of your message is spot on.

If Obama is the nominee, it’s not just important that he lose, but that he lose so badly that he is never taken seriously as a national figure again. Remember that John Kerry was gearing up to run again before his “joke” about Bush was twisted into a smear against the troops. We can’t afford that again- we have to make sure that this is the first AND last year that Obama is a Presidential candidate.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-05-16 14:00:04

This I will never understand, a stupid slip of the tongue, takes out Kerry, but ALL the shit dregged up about Obama, and pastor and his (gulp)wife aren’t supposed to effect the GE whatsoever? Excuse me, time for more Percocet. I’m planning on having a headache after I slam my head in my laptop several times.

Comment by so saddened | 2008-05-17 00:55:13

know what you mean. a small portion of the stuff that’s already come out about obama would’ve ruined any other politician permanently. i think it’s the aa thing plus clinton derangement syndrome - cds. everyone’s so afraid of being called racist, which the obamaites call anyone who dares to even slightly criticize him. plus the msm has a horrible case of cds, so they twist every bad thing about him and call it an unfair attack by hillary.

agree with john that our only hope for salvation from the disaster that is obama is for him to not only lose but lose so badly that he’ll be laughed at if he dares think of running again (i know the obamas said this is a one-time-only “opportunity,” but we know they lie whenever they speak, so that’s meaningless).

i’m hoping enough truth eventually comes out about obama that he not only loses horribly, but he loses even his home state. a 50 state loss would ensure that he never runs for president again and gets voted out if he’s stupid enough to run for senate reelection.

then he and oprah can write books about how great they are….and maybe, just maybe, americans will have come to their senses and not buy any of them. and michelle will have to get by on her 300,000 salary that she thinks is so insufficient….

Comment by Gorgegirl | 2008-05-16 18:56:55

You are so right! I’m just not ready for a candidate that turns every word you say into a racial slur. He can say it wasn’t him, but it was his campaign faxing stuff to the Huffington Post - pictures of him in his African garment and trying to pin it on the Clinton campaign. One only has to stand back and ask themselves “what did Hillary have to gain by making racial slurs?” And, it comes clear that in order to convince the black community to realign their allegiance to him, Barak Obama had to make it into a racial problem. No other issue would sway the black vote to move over to him. And, that is when he did it - after New Hampshire because he needed to win in South Carolina and his campaign needed to stop Hillary. This guy needs to be put back into the Senate so he can, at last, find time to convene the NATO subcommittee on Afghanistan that he chairs.

Hi NoQuarterites! I’ve created an online petition that tells the DNC that Obama should NOT be the nominee if HRC wins the popular vote.

Hillary or McCain - It’s Your Choice.

I personally regard Obama’s delegate lead as unfair, and despicably obtained through race-baiting, sexism and DNC game-playing with FL, MI and caucuses in deep red states.

If you believe HRC should be the nominee when she wins the popular vote, please take a moment and sign the petition. If I get enough signatures before 5/31/08, I will send it to the DNC - either FedEX or email, whichever one will make more of an impact.

Thanks very much!

I don’t know where “Takoma Park” is, but while you may live in a “latte neighorhood”, the people in Lincoln County have 19% of it’s residence who live below the poverty level. They even have Backpack Fridays so the kids can take food home to eat on the weekend. Oregon only has about 1% black population and they are consecrated mainly in the Portland and Eugene areas while they have an even larger percentage of Hispanics. Please note there continues to be 5% of the voters haven’t made up their mind according to this poll. Obama is off talking to other latte drinkers in other states. Hillary is having a town hall meeting in Portland- televised by a network station for Oregonians tonight. Don’t count Hillary out. After all, Obama voted FOR Dick Cheney’s Energy Bill that threatens to put a huge pipeline right through the fertile Willamette Valley. This and Hillary’s support for the reinstatement of the Timber Receipts could tilt the vote her way.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 18:44:19

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:44:03

If Obama had been man enough to debate Hillary, she would have gotten more votes in Oregon.
Obama knew that Hillary would win the debate in Oregon as she has won every debate becuase Obama is such a bad speaker. Oh Obama can recite a speech(and still sometims says uhh, every fourth word) but Obama can not answer a question to save his life.

In Morrow county where Obama was asked about the Hanford nuclear power plant , with toxic radioactiv chemicals leaching into the columbia river,(which is connected to the Pacific Ocean) Obama had never heard of it.

Of course Hillary had, if nothing else than when her husband Bill was President and Hanford was one of the super fund clean ups.
Her first lady experince counts for much more than they say. and in general she has far more knowledge of the issues that matter to the people than Obama does.
Do we want a President who knows the issues of the differnt regions of the United States? That would be Hillary.

Do we want a President who recites speaches? or one who can talk? That would be Hillary the intelligent talker, not Obama the speech reciter.

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:46:06

My point on Hanford nuclear power plant radioactivity and clean up was, in that county where Obama did not know the answer, that county went to Hillary in the primary.

The people who really investigated the candidates knowledge and experience voted for Hillary.

Friday: Fast II and call to action
Posted on May 16, 2008 by riverdaughter

Ok, folks, it looks like this ball is starting to roll. With HCFP doing a haka and Steve Corbett at WILK launching Operation Turndown today, we are seeing thousands of people finally losing patience with the DNC and pushing back against Obama as the inevitable candidate.

We know that Clinton is the stronger, more qualified candidate. We know that the Republicans would like nothing more than to be running against an unvetted, inexperienced weak candidate like Obama. And we know that Obama got to be where he is by suppression of Clinton voters by a.) undemocratic caucuses in heavily Republican states, b.) the active participation of the DNC Rules and Bylaws committee who imposed an unnecessarily harsh penalty on Florida and Michigan c.) the refusal of the Obama campaign to work towards a solution for those two states before the primary season ends , d.) discouraging donors from contributing to Clinton’s campaign or any outside group that might be friendly to her

Thanks John for the Website. There is a superb video there that just puts together all the negative things that the biased media have said on their talk shows. Hillary is one strong lady and we should be honored she wants to be our president!

I watched the Townhall meeting tonight. It was really good. People were asking questions on various issues including energy, immigration, the GI bill in Congress, new registered voters - it was great!
See the medley of biased media at this website:

I completely agree about making it a humiliating defeat for Obama (IF he is the nominee).

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:48:02

We have to do it. Even if it means another Republican Presidency with a longer war. Oh my ____. it has come to this when I said I would never vote Republican after Bush. But we have to defeat Obama.

“Obama’s advantage comes entirely from the 6 in 10 likely voters who tell SurveyUSA they will return their ballot before 8 pm on Primary Day, but have not yet done so. … Ballots may be returned until 8 pm on 05/20/08.”

Link SurveyUSA with lots of breakdown of the poll results. 5/12/08 poll. Obama’s big numbers in 18-34 yr olds, 1/2 of whom “could change their mind.”

We can pull out an upset in Oregon. (ALL HANDS ON DECK! GO to HillaryClinton.com and sign up for phone calls!)

yes, the obamabots are crawling out of the woodwork and creating havoc that they fail to see once again will just further alienate more hill leaners and will cause the ardent hillary supporters to pull out the can of raid and aim it at their pointed little bug like heads.

They are an infestation and they don’t even realize how pathetically ugly and insect like they are.

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:50:17

Did you read my Obama alien virus conspiracy theory?

Hillary really should have pulled out the win in Oregon. I volunteered last minute on phone calls for her for 2 days and my daughter got to unexpectedly meet Chelsea Clinton at the Portland headquartersand get a picture with her which was way cool.

Excellent ad. Messing with Oregon’s coast. Don’t toy with me. Tell me Hillary is going to win Oregon.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 20:14:51

Yes she will! By how much is the question.

Thank You Bill and Chelsea!

Obama is out of touch with Oregon values. He really voted for the Bush-Cheney Energy Bill? That is out of step with my Oregon way of life.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-05-16 19:39:38

I thought so, too, but dang….he was holding firm until this latest poll. I was told it was a lot like Washington. I didn’t THINK that made sense, but someone on-line convinced me, and the polls were holding.

That vote should have really made people in the educated category think. Plus, they should have heard about Rezko and his energy company connections by now.

We do not need another Enron on the west coast.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 20:25:04

The fact that Obama voted for the LNG’s Bush Cheeny Energy Bill is not all that common Knowledge. We only found out form Hillary in March.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 20:18:41

Yes he really voted for the Bush Cheney Oil Bill.
He has in hands deep in the oil mans pockets and wants the presidents seat to keep geting more of that that oil money.

He is not going to tell anyone in Oregon he voted for it though. He only says what people want to hear, right or wrong.

He’ll be downtown at the waterfront speaking this weekend. A group of people need to band together and make signs about how he voted for the BILL.

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:52:47

A debate with Obama trying to answer that question about his Bush/Cheney nergy vote would have sealed the deal for Hillary.

Hillary would have drove that point home to Oregonians.

We were really screwed by not having a debate. Darn that coward Obama.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 20:21:07

Oh and Wyoming too is suffering from the Bush-Cheney oil Bill and people came out in droves to vote Hillary to head off Obama and his dirty hands but they got locked out of the polls..they were all shocked. Truly!

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-05-16 20:23:37

I’ve heard that all over, Lou. It’s pretty shocking.

But then, we’ve never had caucuses so flooded either.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime deal, I suspect.

And it’s inevitable that people are people. They get caught up in the emotions and abandon the principles.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-16 20:31:42

The WA caucus had to be the worst on record. Too many reasons to list. Police were on guard in Tacoma because of threats to Hillary.
Then code pink was raining heavily on Hill’s parade..they lined the streets yelling profanity’s to her presidential cavalcade..too much to list here…that was when Hill didn’t know what was going on and Patty solis Doyle was let go…it’s not the campaigns fault. That is when they discovered by a few of us loud mouths that the vote was being stolen.

I wonder if she in some ways was pleasantly surprised to see how well received she was here in March. I went to see her. It’s wrong to think Or and Wa are the same. Very wrong.
I’m glad to stick to closed primaries of Oregon.

Interesting. What’s fascinating to me is that these stories will, of course, never grab “national story” legs.

But the women who have worked for the Democratic party all of their lives, even in the years when you had to beat people to vote?

They get it.

And this is the story of today with this business of “Turn Down the Nominee.”

These are the worker bees of the Democratic party rising up and saying, “No.”

That’s profound.

It’s one thing to go along with the myth of his being ahead, knowing what they really know.

It’s quite another to be asked to step aside and support him.

They really aren’t going to do it.

They will vote McCain.

McCain probably won’t know what to do with them. LOL*

But he’s going to get their votes.

And it’s not about being in a snit.

It’s a true “Standing up on your Hind Legs.”

These are women who have been involved in politics for years and years. They aren’t wilting violets, and they know the difference between a dust-up and a real conflict.

THIS…….is the real deal.

The Democrats got beat the minute Edwards and Naral gave their endorsement.

It’s over.

You are right! Take a big sign and let the naive people know about his vote AND that it includes the gas pipeline. He is also pro-nuclear energy. He lied to the people in Iowa when he told them he had passed a nuclear bill forcing the nuclear plants to immediately warn the surrounding residents when their well water had been contaminated. “Yep” he said, “I just passed that this past year.” In reality, it didn’t pass because although he introduced it, he allowed the nuclear plant people help water it down to where it had no teeth. He was awarded by the nuclear plant Exelon Corp when they donated $227,000 to his campaign and gave them David Axelrod to help him run his campaign.

Comment by Debra | 2008-05-24 04:55:19

Those caucusus should be outlawed and have all primaries. Obama snuck up on us all with that hand holding to the caucuses. Man its late and I can’t type anymore. Sorry folks. but thanks so much for sharing my opinions on Hillary and Obama. It feels so good.

No. trained Teens from Obama’s Operation Chaos took over WA caucus when unsuspecting voters had no idea why the chaos..many hillary supporters left the caucus without their votes counted. At the time Her website wasn’t geared for sending in complaints..I had to contact them some other way..
Poor WA women and elderly got cheated out of theri vites and abused severely.
