Must-Watch: Barack is WEAK — From McLaughlin Group [With Critical Update]

UPDATE via Taylor Marsh and Corrente Wire: “Clinton Election Juggernaut Accelerates“:

After Hillary Clinton’s historic 41-point victory in the West Virginia primary, two questions loom: How long will Barak Obama cling to his shattered dreams of the presidency, and how much damage will be done to the Democratic Party by his stubborn and divisive refusal to accept the obvious? [MORE BELOW THE FOLD]

This may be the best segment I’ve seen on WHY Hillary can win and WHY Barack cannot:

This segment covers her HUGE West Virginia win, and what it really means. As the videographer states, “The Mclaughlin Group talks about Hillary Clinton’s landslide victory in West Virginia and the “bizarre” math that make Barack APPEAR stronger.”

Here is the home page for the McLaughlin Group.

I make it a habit to watch this show weekly. I find that, conservative that he is, John McLaughlin has great respect for Hillary Clinton, and always has many astute observations about her abilities versus those of Obama.

You can also listen to podcasts and read transcripts from previous shows.

Here’s a sample quote from a previous show:

“And I think this thing has been very hurtful to Obama in this sense. It has drawn him out of the middle of “He’s one of us, a regular guy” over onto the left, where he’s got a wacko preacher. He’s got this Weatherman bomber friend of his. His wife has never known America to be something to be proud of. And I think it’s been overall the most…”

-Pat Buchanan

MORE FROM THE KEY CORRENTE WIRE STORY:

What just weeks earlier had looked to the Obama camp like an easy path to victory has been derailed following his confidence-shattering defeat in Indiana, a state conventional wisdom and his own campaign had projected he would win, and his disastrous showing in Pennsylvania in spite of outspending Clinton 3:1. The North Carolina win was expected, with a demographic that heavily favored Obama’s race-based campaign style, and is of no value strategically since it came in a state that will certainly end up in the Republican win column. In sharp and defining contrast, Clinton’s 41-point West Virginia primary victory is highly significant because current polls show Clinton leading McCain there by a growing margin – it is a state she can win in the fall.

Obama’s best hope for convincing party elders of his general election viability was a decent showing in West Virginia, the closest thing there is to a “key” state for Democratic victory in the general election. Obama aides tried to dismiss the state’s importance – and avoid disturbing questions about why he is badly trailing McCain there in the polls – by saying that West Virginia won’t be part of their plans for victory in the fall.

It is difficult to see how Obama could win the general election without West Virginia; no Democrat, in fact, has taken the White House without West Virginia since 1916. When pressed for Electoral College details, Obama staffers could offer no specifics on what the general election campaign plan might be. “We’re still working on that, but don’t worry,” a source* cites one staffer as saying; “we’ll come up with something.”*

Concern Mounts Regarding Obama’s Electability

The superdelegates certainly are worried. Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have repeatedly taken the trouble to make clear they don’t need to force a decision before the end of June, giving them time to see how Obama does with the remaining primaries before they make any decision. What happened in West Virginia, the single biggest percentage loss ever suffered by a leading candidate this late in the primary process, must certainly give them great pause; the expected result of next week’s Kentucky primary will only add to those concerns. The last thing these leaders want is to nominate another flawed candidate, one who can win the activist part of the Democratic Party but will fail in the general election.

Anticipating rejection by West Virginia voters, the Obama campaign scrambled to create a positive spin for an increasingly faltering effort. …

Except for the minor problem that one day’s worth of superdelegates for him completely obliterate her gains in WV.

Give it up….. He can win all the supers he wants, it wont help him come NOVEMBER. The racist folks will remember..

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-18 12:26:33

the voters for hillary aren’t racists. i hope that was snark.

Comment by standard | 2008-05-18 13:17:16

It means the party wants something BESIDES a president.
And they are willing to lose the presidency to get it.
Governor Cuomo wisely says that we must have them both on a ticket. Because of Obama’s rotten smear campaign, this is the only way to keep the party from splitting.

But I do NOT want Clinton as Obama’s Vice President. I hope that she would not accept such a demeaning position. He will treat her like dirt.

It’s Clinton/Obama, or it’s nothing.

Comment by Nellie | 2008-05-18 13:40:11

Its Clinton and ???

NO BAMA EVER!

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-05-18 13:57:53

anybody BUT ob. not fit for the presidency not fit for the VP then.

There are hundreds of better choices, she will chose wisely.

you are a troll for obama making us look bad?

anyway, i reject and denounce racism and so does Hillary and Bill their WHOLE lives.

and so do an enormous amount of democrats.

Go bother the republicans with your racial slurs.

We are sick of it and you are just adding fuel to the fire of how much we can’t stand you folks.

Comment by jcb | 2008-05-18 12:13:00

That is why if Hillary does not get the nomination, bo will be a joke. And your “rules” will not help you in the general election. Ignore the will of the people and they will in return ignore (and abandon you).

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-18 13:19:45

“bo will be a joke”
BO is a dangerous man.
He’s not a joke.
He has everyone fooled…everyone.
It’s not in our mind-set to even think of what his true agenda is..

Comment by ScottVA | 2008-05-18 12:21:35

Frankly, superdelegates aren’t what gets you the win right now. Their votes only count at the convention. He needs to achieve the magic number of PLEDGED delegates on his own merit. I think he’s going to have a hard argument going into the convention with on just a delegate lead alone. Why? Because he didn’t make the magic number on his own… if she goes to the convention with a commanding Popular Vote lead his argument dims…

Comment by PssttCmere | 2008-05-18 12:57:08

You are right…obama seems to think the convention isn’t important. As for the dem leaders, they should be worried as it looks like obama is planning on taking bows for winning the nomination on Tuesday in Iowa. Not sure how good that will look when he loses KY by a landslide and maybe lose OR by a squeaker.

Comment by standard | 2008-05-18 13:19:30

The delegates might get him the nomination.
But Clinton has what it takes to win the GE - VOTES.

Comment by kanaughty | 2008-05-18 14:49:28

yeah he can claim victory, but he will look like a complete idiot because he won’t have the number 2025 in pledged delegates, so screw him, cause the sd’s don’t count until they actually vote… and i think hill is going to win in oregon. she is doing great at convincing people who haven’t voted yet and undecideds there…

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-18 13:23:07

This has to go to the floor..nothing else will do!Threats of riots are our least concern.

This is very important
Hillary is not counted out.

Think out of the box.

BHO is a very dangerous choice.

And FU Oprah..alias Okra

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-18 17:11:00

And to the convention this must go. Why the sudden bull of it has to end by June 3? HFC is done campaigning. She is ready for anythng.
Her topped out contibuters have a new clean slate to contribute in the GE.

Comment by Vince Foster | 2008-05-18 12:55:25

He can’t win. Your refusal to admit that he has no electoral college path to victory is pathetic.

The world has turned upside down! I now watch John McLaughlin because he makes interesting points. I don’t always agree with him, but I like the way he thinks. (Did he go to Jesuit Schools?) Like Pat Buchanan, McLaughlin seems to respect Hillary for her “character.” An old-fashioned word, alas.

Stainless steel back and a heart of gold.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-05-18 12:11:58

Good post Susan….I watch McLaughlishout weeky too….It is the only TV program that seems to at least tries analysis that is not pro obama…Besides it is a guilty pleasure to watch Buchanen eviscerate Clift as she has lost my respect….chuckle….Ol’ Pat has a keen eye even though I don’t like his politics….He is deft at analysis….thanks

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-18 13:04:04

The two in the tank for Obama (what the hell has happened to Eleanor Clift, for God’s sake?) hopey we will changey our minds in November. If they would pull their heads from their rectums long enough to look at the statistics the others use rather than shake their heads furiously in opposition to factual analysis, they would start to see it a little differently — the difference is they will have these sweet little gigs and will be telling us in December how fucked up WE WERE and never understand how angry Americans are at the MSM for once again giving us their opinions when we are looking for facts. Iraq war anyone?

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-05-18 14:10:21

eleanor at least admitted he has a vulnerablity.

baby steps.

Comment by KJMontana | 2008-05-18 19:18:59

I used to like Eleanor. But she has drunk so much kool-aid it’s starting to seep out of her pores. Doesn’t she know she’s one of the people Oshama doesn’t need… she’s female, white and over 50….3 strikes and she’s out.

Comment by Ellen D | 2008-05-18 12:59:17

I was under the impression McLaughlin had been a Jesuit teacher himself.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-05-18 13:44:51

Was he a former Jesuit Priest ?…..That is what a Jesuit teacher is…A member of the Jesuit Order….If so than the proper designation is former Jesuit….Like former Dominican…Fransican…Benedictine…etc….

Comment by seeker | 2008-05-18 16:28:03

Yes, he was a Priest; Jesuit, I think.

Pat has become the real defender of the traditional American way of life. He knows what’s at stake for us all. Pat can see that Obama is represented by the international elites who want to take over our country. That’s why he likes Hillary and calls her one of us.

Comment by Arabella Trefoil | 2008-05-18 12:06:15

Yes, you nailed it. He’s a blustery common-sense type of guy.

Comment by PssttCmere | 2008-05-18 12:59:42

Did you ever think dems would be extolling the virtues of Pat Buchanan? It is truly a different world… :)

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-05-18 14:18:42

well, I will say they are being nice and fair and balanced for sure. I also know that none of us have left our guard down and are still wary of republicans handing out flowers to dems.

They do seem to genuinely admire her though.

Can’t find any fault with that. She’s one of the strongest and best candidates we’ve had, um, since the big dawg!

Must run in the family.

Comment by kanaughty | 2008-05-18 15:01:29

yeah before i stopped watching msnbc it was pat and joe scarborough who were being fair and defending hillary… which is crazy. i always though pat was a cook before, but now i really really respect him for having the vision to see the other side of things. i always respect peeps who can see both sides… which is one reason i love hillary, cause she used to be a republican and then switched to dem, so to me that makes her a more fair judge of things.

Message from Missionaries in Kenya about Obama

Celeste and Loren Davis are Missionaries in Africa
and can shed some light on one of our Presidential
candidates.

Thanks for sending out an alert about Obama. We are living and
working in Kenya for almost twelve years now and know his family (tribe) well.
They are the ones who were behind the recent Presidential election chaos here.

Thousands of people have been displaced by election
violence (over 350,000) and I don’t know the last count of the dead.
Obama under “friends of Obama” gave almost a million dollars to the opposition
campaign who just happened to be his cousin, Raila Odinga, who is a socialist
trained in east Germany. He has been trying to bring Kenya down for years and
the last president threw him in prison for trying to subvert this country!
December 27th elections brought cries from ODM (Odinga Camp) of a rigged
election. Obama and Raila speak daily. As we watch Obama rise in the US we are
sure that whatever happens, he will use the same tactic, crying rigged
election if he doesn’t win and possibly cause a race war in
America.

What we would like you to know is what the American press has
been keeping a dirty little secret. Obama IS a Muslim and he IS a racist and
this is a fulfillment of the 911 threat that was just the beginning. Jihad is
the only true Muslim way. We have been working with them for 20 years this
July! He is not an American as we know it. Please encourage your friends and
associates not to be taken in by those that are promoting him. It is world
wide jihad. All our friends in Europe are very disturbed by the Muslim
infiltration into their countries. By the way, his true
name is Barack Hussein Muhammed Obama. Won’t that sound sweet to our
enemies as they swear him in on the Koran!

God Bless you. Pray for us
here in Kenya. We are still fighting for our nation to withstand the same kind
of assault that every nation, including America, is fighting. Takeover from
the outside to fit the new world order. As believers, this means we will be
the first targets. Here in Kenya, not one mosque was
burned down, but hundreds of churches were burned down, some with people in
them, burned alive.

Jesus Christ is our peace but the new
world order of Globalism has infiltrated the church and confused believers
into thinking that they can compromise and survive. It won’t be so. I will
send you a newsletter we sent out in February documenting in a more cohesive
manner what I’ve tried to say in a few
paragraphs.
Good Morning to all of you..First let me say that I love my country, and in doing so I respect the opnion of others, but that don’t mean I agree with everyone either..I don’t care if a black man becomes President, as long as he is good for this country, but I do have issues with Obama..First he disrespects the United States flag, wich to me is Disrespecting this country, and then of course instead of showing his support for the troops by wearing the flag, he chooses another way to go..I don’t support this war, but I do support the troops over there, trying to do what they can to make this world a better place..They risk their lives for the life of other’s..anyhow here is something that was sent to me and I wanted to share it with all of you..

There is only ONE real problem for Hillary. Her name is NANCY PELOSI and she has had her Jealous Fangs out for Hillary a very long time. Mark my word!

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-18 12:16:37

I am not convinced of that yet.

She’s #1 a woman, #2 a practicing Catholic, #3 as concerned about women and childrens issues as any one, #4 would HAVE TO (by faith) agree and support Hillary for staying with her husband (I left mine).

I can think of more but that’s enough for now.

Plus, I think she MUST maintain an even keel about both until it’s decided otherwise be slammed as partisan and maybe she’s even giving MORE rein with the Obamatrons to try to soften their BLOW when the truth comes out.

just a thought

Comment by Ulahane | 2008-05-18 12:26:13

I might buy this except for the fact that Pelosi has been pushing superdelegates to vote with the pledged delegate winner ever since Obama pulled ahead in that category.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-18 12:31:38

pelosi thinks she walks on water and that she is really, really special. the only thing dems have going for them is how much they public doesn’t like bush. what they forget is that they public has given them even lower poll numbers. dukasis had high approval rating before november. need i say more!

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-18 12:49:22

well she is special

she is the FIRST woman speaker of the house

I was mad at here a year or so ago for not getting us out or trying harder to get us out of war and I was siding with the MOM of that VET (I forget her name now)

but even that MOM (a bit wacked and extreme left) disliked Nancy for not being far enough LEFT

which leads me to believe she is in fact more moderate than her constituents would like

I’m holding out hope she will come around in the end and stand up for what is RIGHT

HILLARY in NOVEMBER!!!

Pelosi along with Reid have been absolute disasters. They have been selling out the Democratic base from Nov 2006. Pelosi’s interests were to make nice with Bushco inorder to attempt to pass legislation of primary interest to the increasing corrupt California delegation and her cabal of female cronies like Zoe Lofgren and Helen Tauscher and Feinstein. Therefore Pelosi and Reid have repeatedly pushed legislation like “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” The Dream Act, H1-B Expansion all AgJobs. All bills that stoked fierce nationwide grassroots oposition among working Democrats, Republicans and Independents. One great big FU to the Lou Dobbs Independent, Reagan Democrat and Buchananite Republican vote.

Yes Hillary Clinton and Obama both supported the same legislation. However, Pelosi, Reid and Dean have together been in the forefront in turning the Democratic party away from being the party of the wage earner during the FDR New Deal era, back into the Cheap Labor party of Grover Cleveland which will always consider the demands of employers and upper professional and the investment classes for surplus labor over the the income and job security interests of average Americans.

Deep down Pelosi could give a rats ass if the party loses with Obama as long as She remains speaker. I think she may suspect that Hillary might a back move to elect a different speaker if elected.

Any Democratic politician with the interest of the American people at heart would have recognized that there were opportunities to pass major populist legislation by working with the Buchananite/Paleocon/Ron Paul factions of the Republican party. They would have worked to draw down the Iraq Occupation, end the Open Borders insanity and restore some basic fiscal responsiblity that would helped ease energy costs by cutting back the speculative hedging on oil against an increasing weak US dollar.

However, Pelosi is too much a upper class Left-wing San Fransciso Democrat and Open Borders idealogue to ever do such a thing.

Republicans 527s would love to tie Pelosi and Reid to Obama and basically sink down ticket Democrats this fall.

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-18 13:06:51

I am all for throwing Pelosi and Reid overboard. They have done a very poor job of reflecting what voters sent them there to do.

The clip reminds me why I stopped watching the McLaughlin Group. Is it really possible that Eleanor Clift can be so dense? Is she just reading from a script and simply playing the role of the hapless clueless Beltway Liberal?

Once again Buchanan is the voice of reason and sanity which in itself is pretty scary for Democrats.

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-18 12:21:00

ya know a hundred years ago when he was running I ALMOST voted for him because of his BLUNT FRANKNESS!

I totally admire that. Unfortunately when I realized along with that honesty was the fact he’s too MUCH a bigot for me. I still admire him for his bluntness. You can TELL when he’s fibbing he starts laughing! And when he’s being honest he’s even MORE obvious.

Of course being honest as HE sees it. Which often correlates with how I see it. I like Pat. I don’t respect his bigoted ways sometimes but at least he’s honest about it and not pretending to be something he’s NOT.

Of course he’s not running for anything either.

Comment by ScottVA | 2008-05-18 12:24:16

You want to know why that is? The left liberals will argue anything even if it’s weak… where as McLaughlin and Buchanan argue on the facts and the rules that play along with them. Clift would try to say the White House was pink even if it was green… LOL

Comment by Catriley | 2008-05-18 12:24:20

Clift has to be an Obama supporter. She was completely irrational on that clip. I swear she actually said that “Obama is beating McCain in all the matchups!” in regard to polling. THat’s a lie. Obama comes in second to Hillary or McCain in all the polling. She and that Chicago Tribune guy were hilarious — “he didn’t campaign in West Virginia!” that Tribune guy kept saying that and refused to answer McLaughlin’s question about how many offices Obama had open there.

Comment by PssttCmere | 2008-05-18 13:02:51

Eleanor Clift has gone off the cliff…she is so in the bag for obama. She has said some other thing I have questioned lately also. I think the death of her husband has had quite an effect on her. Same with Mort Kondracke. He appeared pretty reasonable, then his wife died and he turned, and not for the better I might add.

Whats the superdelegate count for poor hillary since west virginia? ONE! LMAO!

How many superdels do you think she’ll get after beatin Obama in KY by 30 points? I’ll put the over/under at 1.

I bet that Obama will at least double her superdelegates after KY/OR on Tuesday.

POOR POOR HILLARY!

As I posted on Taylor’s blog a question…..what if McCain wanted his own unity ticket…..McCain/Clinton
what troubles would it pose the Dems and would you vote for it. What say you.

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-18 13:07:23

since McKook is really OLD

I might consider it but I want HILLARY at the top of any ticket!

She’s too smart to be 2nd

yeah it just doesn’t make sense it would be like as if the teacher was in the desk and the kid was doing the lecture…

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-05-18 14:44:58

well Kefa, I’ve thought about that. We all know Kerry offered the VP to McCain and that McCain is a centrist, and that obama has lied about McCain’s statements (and everything else, obama is just a fabrication and figment) and if the dems are dumb enough to ditch Clinton… well perhaps that would work out for the best.

and conveniently the dem con is 4 days before the rep con.

interesting idea.

it sure would beat any ticket with ob.

Don’t think the republicans would allow mac to put hill on top though! :-)

We need a way to get truth to the general population.
Every news channel is repeating that Clinton has no chance to win.
That she is just playing this out to the end, and then obama will be declared winner.

I guess what the mean is that the small number of cultists who own the party have more clout than the democratic majority.

Emotionalism is working…that is BHO strategy.
It is noise to subvert the real truth.
Mass Voter Fraud
Diggin up MO CHURCH tapes is nice
BUT
OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE
ARE THERE ANY LAWYERS IN THE HOUSE?
There are massive unanswered questions not only about Obama but the vote tallies.

PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC
POP
HEAD OUT OF ASS
HEY
snivel snivel

cough cough
Hillary deserves more.
Any pragamatists here?
I have reams of stuff to put this bone head out to pasture
PROBLEM
1. NO ONE IS CONCENTRATING ON TUESDAY WHERE HE WILL NOMINATE HIMSELF
2. THE CAMPAIGN IS NEARLY OUT OF TIME.
3. The noise of emotionalism has upsurped the real issues about this guy.
THIS IS NOT JUST AN ELECTION LIKE ANY OTHER AND WE WILL LIC OUR WOUNDS AND MOVE ON.
Our country is on the thresh hold of being taken over by………and him

Anyone listening
Any lawyers here?

Thanks! You’re so right. I just got off the phone with someone who isn’t tracking this, and she called to get my “take.”

This was a great discussion.

And it outlines the challenge to the DNC.

They have their heads in the sand. He is truly, truly not the nominee that has won the Democratic Party.

The DNC is wrong to back him. The SDs are wrong to back him.

And they will learn this when they have to brush up their resumes and go back to selling real estate, in a down market. :)

I just made another contribution to Hillary and will stay with her to the convention. However, I believe the truth is they will never not give (I refuse to say steal) the nomination to Obama because he is Black. Now that is racism!

Comment by Linda | 2008-05-18 13:02:32

thank god!

finally, some intelligent talk about the DNC’s headlong march to defeat!

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-18 15:49:10

There needs to be a group of officials tapping on the DNC cronies shoulders and escorting them out the door.
