Hillary’s Voice is OUR Voice
By PaganPower on May 21, 2008 at 8:04 AM in Florida, Hillary Clinton, Michigan, Misogyny, Pennsylvania
Women across the country are rallying behind Hillary in an amazing show of solidarity. Yesterday a group of female Hillary supporters named WomenCount took out a full page in the New York Times telling the rest of the country and Barack Obama to cease his coronation.
“Not so fast,” read a full page ad in The New York Times, amid calls for Clinton to bow out of the race to help unify the Democratic party after a grueling race pitting the former first lady and New York senator against Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
“Hillary’s voice is OUR voice, and she’s speaking for all of us,” said the ad, purchased by a group not affiliated with the Clinton campaign called WomenCount.
“We want Hillary to stay in this race until every vote is cast, every vote is counted, and we know that our voices are heard.”
And leading the pack was our brave trailblazer Geraldine Ferraro. Never one to mince words, Ferraro tells it like it is.
“Latent sexism has been around this country for a long time. In this campaign it was rampant,” Ferraro, the 1984 Democratic vice presidential nominee, said on NBC’s Today show.
“There is a real difference in this country. It is not okay to be racist. It is just not. It is almost acceptable to be sexist,” Ferraro said as the Democrats fielded the historic choice of the first female or the first black presidential nominee.
Ferraro recalled a Clinton rally in New Hampshire when someone in the audience held up a sign saying “Iron my shirt.”
“Suppose somebody at that Barack Obama rally said ‘Shine my shoes.’ The person would have been swamped by the media saying, what, are you a racist? Hillary barely saw press on this. It is not only the Obama campaign. It is how the press has handled this.”
Apparently the double standard has reached epidemic proportions and women all across the country are joining together and demanding that bias against and hate for women be ended immediately.
A group called Professionals for Hillary has organized a protest today beginning at 3PM. At present it has been organized in four states: Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Though there is a strong possibility that this protest will only be the first of many to come. Below is the full description of today’s protests, including protest locations.

While I love a good protest, and I applaud those that have organzied these events (no small thing), I think the better move would be an ORGANIZED boycott of NBC’s sponsors, complete with a letter/email/phone call to those sponsors explaining why you’re upset. Ask Imus how things go once the sponsors get spooked by angry customers…game over. A boycott shouldn’t be limited to NBC but as we all have seen, they are most deserving.
I hope that these events are well covered, and that anyone attending takes pics and sends them out to NQ, TM et al. I’ll think good thoughts for them but continue to pound on NBC’s sponsors for my part.
You can block MSNBC and contact them and let them know you did so.
The only thing that gets their attention is money, and in broadcasting that means sponsors. In fact, they LIKE getting hate mail/calls. The more angry you are, the more you are talking about them and probably still watching - happens a lot. Sponsors/money is the only real chain to yank.
Somebody needs to compile a list of email addresses of MSNBC sponsors.
Or one person jot down the sponsors, and someone else can get the contacts.
By the time I have the time, it might be too late.
The work has been done for the most part - see TM’s site - probably tucked into Hot Topics, or just ask for directions - someone will send you there. It is very effective to contact sponsors, but important to do it politely to be taken seriously.
It is on Taylor Marsh’s website. They were all over that after Pennsylvania, I think.
Americans are not going to give anything up. That’s just not going to happen. That is why there was a thread yesterday mocking one of Barack’s recent statements about doing without.
What they understand is no numbers as viewership.
After ABC’s debate, the trolls FLOODED ABC with protest letters. They blocked it on their TV’s … that is what the networks understand. Dropping your newspaper subscription is what the papers understand.
P&G advertise in so many outlets that your protest doesn’t mean diddle. I’m sorry, it’s just that simple.
Respectfully disagree - the sponsors are the lifeblood - the only reason ratings matter is because it is the tool used to sell airtime to sponsors. Same with circulation to the print media - it’s always about money, isn’t it?
You know I wouldn’t, but if you think it will be effective, you should.
I am/have been doing it for more than a month but it is a strength in numbers game. The more, the merrier.
Kara’s comment is dead right: speak with money — or by withdrawing it. And with your vote. As to the money aspect, contact all sponsors of these propaganda media machines and be very specific that you are ceasing to purchase their products for their tacit support of misogyny. Women are primary buyers and consumers. Speak with your pocketbook.
Likewise, take note of the herd mentality forming among your local representatives running for election, who have, with the wind, thrown their support to Hillary’s opponent. Inform them of your concern in this regard, ask why they are truly supporting Obama, and of your decision to reconsider your vote for these candidates, just as they have switched their allegiance. It cuts both ways.
Seriously, look back at how women got the vote. How hard a victory this was. The suffrage movement is still going on, but the bravery of these pioneering women was, and remains astounding. Are we less brave? Have we become complacent? Have we come this far to sit down passively and risk going backwards for the respect of women? It can happen. It is happening.
Imagine how these women would react to today’s propaganda and misogynist messages, not only by the male-owned media, but also by female puppets and practitioners of “horizontal hostility” (look it up if you are not aware of thise term).
Speak up NOW. Take action today. Get up. Use the power you truly have. Respect yourself, your very lives, your sisters, and especially your daughters.
I totally agree with you about getting to their sponsors. I am all for a concerted effort to do this AFTER June 3rd.
How?
When a consumer product company gets complaint mail from their target customer, they weight it. One letter does not equal one letter. Get your mother/sister/friend/neighbor/whatever to also write an email, make a call. Have them do the same by spreading the word. It works but only when there are numbers. Surely that can be done with the good people herre and elsewhere. In short, do your part as LenniTee has suggested. It’s always the money.

You’re exactly right. Boycotting the sponsors is the only thing that works.
Please contact any groups that you belong to and ask them to sign off on a letter.
The letter should be for supporting women and a democratic system of government where everyone’s vote counts.
I guarantee you that the NAACP, Southern Baptist Conf etc. have been all over this already.
It’s no coincidence that it’s been nothing but blow jobs for Obambi so far.
please, can anyone help me to find , how to block MSNBC, or to send email with complains, I am not so good on this. As soo as possible!!!!!
We should do a boycott too. But individuals can do that. Maybe posting a list of sponsors would be helpful and then we can start writing letters, emails and making calls on our own.
One unfortunate thing is that I noticed before I blockked MSNBC, they do a lot of Viagra, Cialis ads. But we could boycott their other products.
Right now I’m watching NO NEWS. If there is a Breaking Story, I will watch one or two news cycles to keep up. And occasionally I check FOX. Advertisers should be aware whether we’re calling them or not they are spending a lot of money on commercials that go unseen. May sweeps should not have been good for the networks.
It will all depend on how much momentum and publicity these protests get. It’s all well and good to target NBC but it goes deeper than that. Making it appear that just NBC is at fault is a mistake.
There is no reason why we should not have both demonstrations and boycotts of offending networks and sponsors. NBC is obiously nervous which is why Tucker Carlson is gone and they are trying to push Matthews out. But if they are able to shut this down by quietly getting rid of these guys, the problem will still be there. It is time that this becomes a national discussion and demonstrations are a great way to do that, providing the media covers it.
You’re right on. It all happens in the pocketbook. Zucker, head of NBC couldn’t care less unless it hits the bottom line.
The rampant sexism, condescension, dissmission, and insults are all over the MSM and must be stopped. Best way is for the kind of boycot on the allifiliate stations and sponsors. Get the links set up. Get a website, and you’d have millions of women letting the networks and their sponsors feel it in $$$$$.
All of the small affiliate stations of the big networks have stations in Kentucky,WVa,Pa, and other states where Hillary supporters would oblige such boycots and protest.
CNN should get the same treatment along with MSNBC,etc as the Cable TV talking heads haven’t stop trashing women, Hillary, and treating Obama like a god.
Stop Sinclair was a very effective boycot of Sinclair Media during Swiftboat time. Many ads were pulled as so much pressure was brought to bear on afiliates.
But it must be made easy with lists and links of who to contact by email and phone in each affiliate of the networks and cable, as well as NYTimes,WSJournal,WashPo, etc.
We know all know it’s not ok to be a racist. And we all know for sure that it’s ok to be a sexist. In fact it’s become a mainstream thing now.
Regarding counting the votes, the same tactics must apply. Women should consolidate their strength and put Womanpower to work.
Without real protest, nothing will change.
I’m glad they came out for her.
Now I hope they’ll tone down the women angle.
I don’t think it will help her, anymore than
Obama discussing racism will help him.
She is the best candidate - THAT is why I am voting for her.
I absolutely disagree on the “women angle.” Women have been the victims of sexism from Obama and the DNC is ignoring and disenfranchising them. This is real. Obama used racism against us and the racism is not real as he made it up. There is a huge difference! Women must stand up for their equal rights!
I agree wholeheartedly on “She is the best candidate - THAT is why I am voting for her.” Her qualifications and experience sold me in Hillary a long time ago.
I look forward to a coalition of seniors getting together and protesting that McCain is being discriminated against because he is a geezer.
It will be ever so gratifying to the geriatric set who support him, nevermind it diminishes the candidate.
Whose idea was this?
Ageism and sexism and racism exist. Whinging aggravates the problem. I would like to equip a division of people in their seventies with walkers and other [[clearing throat here] ambulatory assist devices to totter slowly around grocery stores and get in the way of shoppers. Then, after they have well and truly pissed off a lot of people, complain loudly they are victims of ageism. Ooooh. inspiration! anti-ageist BUMPERSTICKERS for old or old-looking drivers.
We need more courtesy, more respect, less self-indugence, fewer victims.
just as I need more tact, less snark.
Maybe there’s a workshop somewhere.
With Obama, it simply doesn’t matter, he has NO CLUE what he’s doing, none, at all.
I don’t give them a second thought, as bland and as predictable as cafeteria food.
Jello, today?
How about a sloppy Joe?
Nothing of any talent, or interest there.
But, boy, they really seem to have anger issues.
They’re deperate to draw people into their game, and no, it’s too bland, they think like stupid people, why would anyone bite?
Therapy might help?
Now with that crew, they’re beyond therapy.
Anyone who engages in these methods is not rational.
Having said that, they’re not smart, either, but they see no one but themselves.
It doesnt even occur to them to ask themselves if they’re being set up.
I swear, day to day, they seem confused as to what day it is, they are simply MORONS.
Clinton is my nominee and I am not going to vote for media’s nominee, BHO. Obama has been the most divisive figure since Nixon. The CNN reporter last night, in Iwoa, said, that BHO is back here where he started all except, this time he can claim that he was able to bring down the most powerful machine of Democratic Party, the Clintons!!! Well barvo..that says it all; he managed to do the domage that Republicans were dreaming for it! and he did it for them!
Money+media=Obama
People+democracy=Hillary
But he didn’t, if he had half a clue, he’s see that he reinforced it.
See how dangerous it is to believe your own PR spin?
Guy is on Pluto.
he’d see, sorry, not, he’s see….
Yes he has been smoking his own hopium. He is not very bright. Most Hillary supporters on this blog would make a better president. Maybe Obama can be elected president of Pluto? He certainly will never be a president of the USA here on Earth.
Boycotts do work, but they take time and consistency-remember the boycott against apartheid in South Africa. For me, I still boycott Exon, veal, and Proctor and Gamble.
I know they are still around, but it’s a principal with me.
Imus was a great example of how sensitive broadcasters are to their sponsors - that did not take even a full week. The key is the sheer number of letters/calls. Surely that can be arranged easily in this internet age…just spread the word. On TM there was even a pretty good “form” letter to show people how to go about a protest letter. It’s very effective and doesn’t really take much effort with the internet.
We should try whatever makes sense to try. As far as Imus goes, he is white and the double standard applies so he gets shafted but Barry and Michelle Obama and Wright can be racists but we are just supposed to understand. This makes me puke.
If you’re targeting a female audience or a family demo for a product and you get a bunch of complaint letters from those that fit your demo, you’d be concerned enough to call the ad agency that placed the buy and demand that your spot be placed elsewhere. Then the ad agency’s buyer calls the sales dept at NBC and says “we’re outta here and here’s why” and then the salespeople go screaming down the hall tot he general manager demanding that something be done before everyone leaves…seen it.
I wish I’d seen the one yesterday near where I live. Alas, but I’ve not watched the network shows from the beginning. I agree with Hillary that I don’t need someone on TV to tell me how to react to the news that day. I’m amazed so many people seem to need that.
Today there are yet more insulting editorials suggesting that Hillary is staying in only to force a VP offer. What nonsense. Her surrogates repudiate that. She certainly doesn’t say it. It’s this type of crystal-ball reading that goes on that is nothing more than gossip-mongering. Another bunch is still spouting off last weeks story about how she wants Obama to retire her debt, based on the meeting the finance guys had. Good grief, that thinking makes me wonder just how easy it must be to get those jobs. Does anyone think anymore at all?
She and Bill could retire the debt and never miss it. Nevertheless, she will have no problem in retiring the debt. People love Hillary and will relish the thought of meeting her at a fundraiser. Bill could raise it in a couple of months, no sweat.
The notion that she “needs” Obama is just another sexist idea that informs a lot of people.
The obvious sexism is so blatant as to make my teeth ache. The more subtle sexist thinking is even more telling in that it shows just how much it still acts as a filter for thinking.
But I think the bigger issue is that entirely too many people in journalism obviously are poor thinkers. They craft sentences. Or they develop a TV persona. But their thinking is so weak that they lurch from one stereotype to another, they repeat what the last guy said as though it has validity, and they don’t seem to be able to stop and ask themselves simple questions such as: Does this even make sense for me to say?
I think these assumptions are based on the old model of reporting and commentary. It is obsolete. Now they are CorpsMedia hirelings; their job is to propagate the views of their paymasters.
She may not need Obama to retire her debt, but if they are going to FORCE her out of this at the end, she should definitely make them pay. It gives her strength for a 2012 run. I’m pointing this out because people seem to be setting themselves up for disillusionment.
I want Hillary to go to the Convention and fight. I still think she could win. But if she doesn’t, Obama, the DNC, Democratic Leadership, Obama, Michelle, should not only pay off her debt, they should be made to publicly grovel before her and Bill, publicly apologize for branding them as racists and apoogize to Geraldine Ferraro. I also want Donna Brazile to lose her job and her status as a tv pundit.
He still won’t get my vote. But it might make me not vote against other Democrats. Right now I’m vindictive with a capital ‘V’. Obama will never get my vote, but I will understand if Hillary has to tow the Party line and I want her to be compensated for it. (I know they’ll hate it and that also gives me pleasure.)
But I don’t want to focus on that. I am in a constant prayer vigil that Hillary will pull this thing out!! I just want Obama to go away.
when Britt Hume showed the disgusting Leno clip last night, I think the female political opinion person Nina Easton IIRC should have gotten up and walked off the set
it was awful and the men were all heh heh
she should have just took off the mic and walked..
To me the VP crap is the other side blinking. At every turn they offer Hill
a doggie biscuit, which she doesn’t even acknowledge. Then after more wins, they offer her a BIGGER doggie biscuit…like the VP. Which just a short time ago they were saying wasn’t possible. They keeping thinking if they make just the pot a bit sweeter , Hillary will be gathered in like the laughable, JE and Richardson. They have no idea who they are dealing with and cannot imagine someone cannot be bought.
Did you see the exit polls yesterday? I choked when I saw that neither side now even WANTS a unity ticket. LOL*
That just cracked me up!
The other stat that I loved was that even in KY, they knew he’d probably get the nomination. So much for dumb honkies, eh? They knew, and they still turned out in droves to vote for her.
Can’t make this stuff up.
Crystal-ball reading is right. It’s old and we can spot it a mile away.
Hillary is in this all the way to the convention no matter how much idiots whine about it.
Those people are too dumb to present any long term threat.
And any damage can be corrected like a flat tire changed.
Really really stupid, you look at the way they execute their campaigns, this is how they think, they cannot sustain.
LOOK at the level of troll here, they’re MORONS.
I mean they’re trying to carpet the room with morons, they already have a room ful of morons in DK.
Them boys, and their boss, are DUMB.
LOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
I love when they get all self impressed, and walk right into a trap.
I see the stupid MSM is running a headline that Obie is beating McCain in the polls. That is just a flat-out lie. I’m so proud of Hillary Democrats that they haven’t fallen for propaganda and lies like the Obambi people and the neoCons.
What, leading McCain in non-swing states needed to be elected? Yes the MSM are a joke. Ignore them, keep fighting for Hillary! She has proven those assholes in the MSM wrong time and time again!
non-swing states NOT needed
Oh and I am getting really excited about seeing a floor fight at the Dem convention. That’s how Abraham Lincoln got the nomination–something like the 13th ballot in a floor fight!
That would be cool! But I think Obama will implode long before then. He is acting more irrational than ever and looks like shit lately. And Hillary is white hot! She is in this for the long haul!
People in journalism and pundits aren’t thinkers. They are about ratings. It doesn’t matter who they destroy in the interim. Basically, I think all of them are over paid.
yup, Gloria…
I can’t figure out how they even manage to keep these shows going. Very few people I know in real life pay attention to those shows.
It’s no wonder the ad revenues are way down.
I read in one of the blogs, “the Village”( the press) is a sack of puss about to explode” …yup that about covers it lol!
There is an article out today that states the Obama machine plans to take control of the DNC in the general election race! Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are about to have the tables turned on them, and then they might be going to Hillary Clinton for advice on how to handle the situation!!
YEE-HAAAAAA!!!!
Hmmm………link please….veeeery interestink…..
It’s on Fox’s website … saw it this morning .. couldn’t happent to a better group …. trust me, he don’t want Donna …. she’s got the smell of a loser and Barry’s not for losers.
I ‘ve said that for awhile. Voting for BO
will not save Super D from BO. They are making it easier for the “unity” of being in the shark’s belly. Super D’s WAKE UP! Support Hillary and save your own ass
no sharing superdelegates, or popular votes.from Florida and Michigan, It ids Obama problem, that He took His name from Mochigan, ythey are a lot black people there, who do not trust Obama. Need to hear from You, Florida and Michigan ballot.WE must start making a big noise, make sure, that WE all can see and hear averywere in USA.
