Is Andrew Sullivan a Sociopathetic Hack?
By PaganPower on May 21, 2008 at 11:42 PM in Andrew Sullivan, Barack Obama, Delegates, Florida, Hillary Clinton, Michigan, Voter Enfranchisement
This idiot by the name of Andrew Sullivan is of the opinion that it is wrong for Hillary to work her heart out to get the delegates of Florida and Michigan seated at the convention. In his myopic opinion Hillary is a Clinton and everyone knows about the Clintons. They Are Legend.
The Clintons know no respect for rules or propriety or restraint in the pursuit of power.
Let’s start with the obvious. Sullivan is a lunatic. He groups Bill and Hillary together into this nice neat little bundle that he can blaspheme with impunity. I wonder if he has actually even heard that women are known to have a mind of their own and are separate creatures from men. According to Sullivan, Hillary is just an extension of Bill. Are Cavemen making a comeback that I haven’t heard about yet?
In my not so humble opinion Hillary has nailed this Florida and Michigan thing BIG TIME.
Now, I know that Senator Obama chose to remove his name from the ballot in Michigan, and that was his right. But his choice does not negate the votes of all those who turned out to cast their ballots, and we should not let our process rob them and all of you of your voices. To do so would undermine the very purpose of the nominating process. To ensure that as many Democrats as possible can cast their votes. To ensure that the party selects a nominee who truly represents the will of the voters and to ensure that the Democrats take back the White House to rebuild America.
Now, I’ve heard some say that counting Florida and Michigan would be changing the rules.
I say that not counting Florida and Michigan is changing a central governing rule of this country - that whenever we can understand the clear intent of the voters, their votes should be counted. I remember very well back in 2000, there were those who argued that people’s votes should be discounted over technicalities. For the people of Florida who voted in this primary, the notion of discounting their votes sounds way too much of the same.
Damn right sister. Because the heart of the Democratic Party has always been voter enfranchisement.
But facts like this matter little to Obama Cultists like Sullivan.
She agreed that Michigan and Florida should be punished for moving up their primaries. Obama took his name off the ballot in deference to their agreement and the rules of the party. That he should now be punished for playing by the rules and she should be rewarded for skirting them is unconscionable.
Earth to Andrew Sullivan. Not that it matters because you are clearly too stupid to understand something so simple as a fact or two. But for your followers and all the rest of the Cult-Aide addicts, here is a little refresher course in reality.
First of all, Hillary had no say whatsoever in the decision of the DNC to disenfranchise Florida and Michigan. None. Whatsoever. Did you get that Andrew? Or am I speaking too fast for you?
The next thing an idiot like you needs to understand is that the DNC threatened sanctions against ANY candidate that did not honor their decision. I realize it is a little difficult for a dumb ass like you to comprehend but do you at least get this part Andrew? The candidates were threatened if they would have campaigned so they agreed not to do so. Hillary honored the pledge. Obama did not.
Obama is the one that violated the rules Andrew. I realize he is your Great Black Hope. And I get that he gives you wood. More power to ya bucko. But he is the one that violated the rules he agreed to abide by. Not Hillary. Get a frickin grip.
Sullivan ends his little tirade with a whopper of idiocy. He lets his true colors show. In another lifetime he would have been a very good Republican or bedmate of Arianna Huffington. Or am I speaking oxymoron?
I think she has now made it very important that Obama not ask her to be the veep. The way she is losing is so ugly, so feckless, so riddled with narcissism and pathology that this kind of person should never be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Most of us realize that Cultists like you don’t have the ability to think rationally. So we walk a tightrope responding to the stupid things that you can’t help come out of your mouth. But since I have never been one to offer any mercy to complete idiots I won’t bother pretending to be nice to you. Besides, you don’t deserve civility.
You are an idiot Sullivan. I have watched videos of you and it is so blatantly apparent that it should be embarrassing. I have come to the conclusion that the only way a person such as yourself can achieve any relevance at all is to drink the Cult-Aide every day. Because dude, you haven’t a clue. And it isn’t a big secret.

Can anyone tell me what were the other states that also held their primaries before their scheduled dates? I think there were three…and wasn’t Iowa one of them? I’m going to see my sister tomorrow (O supporter) & want to have plenty of ammo. Thanks!
Andrew sullivan is a log cabin republican journalist who can’t see past his oral fixation about the clinton’s.
If anybody reflects a sad and sick PATHOLOGY, it is Andrew Sullivan.
His previous adoration of George Bush and the invasion of Iraq clearly put him in the irrational, emotional, pathological category.
Nobody–and I mean NOBODY–except the drama queens in the Obama camp—-take Andrew Sullivan seriously any more.
SULLIVAN IS A CRAZY CRACKER FOFO HYPOCRITE WHO NEEDS TO BE DEPORTED….
I hate to break it to you, but no one takes Sullivan seriously, including Obama supporters.
Sullivan has been one of the most confused political commentators ever.
Andrew Sullivan used to tell the Gay Community that they were too promiscuous, and needed Religious faith in their lives. Then we found out that he liked to have unprotected group sex, and was HIV positive.
As soon as he announced his disease, he wanted sympathy from the Gay community and tried to turn himself into an AIDS activist.
He was a Republican up until 2005. Why should anyone listen to him pontificate on Democratic politics?
Because he is friends with Bill Maher and Maher lets him go on his show a lot.
andrew sullivan is gay and has a crush on “.down low O” . I was going to laugh when I saw “bedmate for Arianna” but that wouldn’t be so far fetched. She’s a notorious fag hag…even married one.
Oh those were nevada, SC and georgia. Harry reid got nevada in and the black caucus got the other 2 in before super tuesday.
eveyone forgets that when the dnc says blah blah broke rules by upping the date before super tuesday. they mean they did not get granted permission– and not the fact that the DNC allowed 3 others to break the timeline and have elections before feb 5th ( super tuesday)
and we all wonder why they allowed sc and ga to do it, now don’t we? could it have anything to do with the demographic advantage for obambi being huge? and we know why they didn’t allow fl and mi to do it, what with those being favorable for hillary.
set up from day one.
No question. This was a fix from the start. All the more reason for us to reject and shun it.
GA’s primary remained on Super Tuesday, and remained so for as long as I remember. SC jumped the gun without punishment, though. Which later learned from Dean’s own mouth, that it was planned to “acquire” the Black block vote from Hillary, by stirring up racism.
Dean is a dirty bastard for playing his own Willie Horton moment.
Can you provide a source for this information? I would like to pursue it. Please email it to me. Or visit my blog and leave a message there.
Pagan Power - don’t know about that specific item but rezkowatch repeated a prior post - since last Friday- don’t recall date- that traced the relation. and plan between obama and dean to BEFORE THE 2004 CONVENTION, which is, of course, why ALL THIS is happening and why the end date of convention is set for famed MKL date. Suggest
go to rezkowatch and check their archives of articles in last week. MUCH CONTENT in this piece thus far overlooked by others. . . you may want to do a follow up post, re their post, SOON to spread the info.
like your piece today.
So, basically, Dean gave Clyburn and South Carolina PERMISSION to work the race agenda in helping Barak Obama.
Given the thousands of Americans who have stopped donating to the DNC, I’m guessing Dean might be regretting that now.
Not much regret, they have their cash cow, Obama (unless we can put a stop to all this)
Think his real cash cow may be Gen Elec GE. Makes sense because GE is the world’s largest and wealthiest corp and has much to do with the war machine. GE owns MSNBC/NBC etc et all (many mags and papers in their column, too.) Also hear that GE is part owned by Bin Laden family - don’t know how much interest they actually hold with the company. GE would also seem to be an easy way to hide a money trail to bo camp - because they own so many many many many many many subsidiaries.
This would also fit obama’s endless trail of muslim connections that are so in denial and so blocked from media coverage. so tired of hearing that his musliminsm (word?) is just a hoax by the right wing.
WAKE UP QUICK WHILE THERE IS TIME, AMERICA!
Any with time or info on bin laden connection to GE, please reply to my comment here. thanks
Dean probably blames Clinton for the loss of donations.
From post below.
This goes with your theory that they wanted SC to obscure Florida.
opps wrong on GA sorry…it was on super tuesday..
No, Nevada did not violate the Rules by moving their primary forward. South Caroline, New Hampshire and Iowa did violate the Rules by moving their primaries forward. They received no punishment, because DNC wanted them to go first anyway. DNC always for some reason wants small, mostly Republican states to select the candidate. I do not get it. They always want the nominee selected before any large population, blue states vote. I’m from a rural state, btu I don’t think we should have a disproportional say in the nominating process.
But those three states did violate the Rules as established by the Rules Committee of the DNC. DNC just ignored it and doubled the punishment for Florida and Michigan.
DNC Delegate Selection Rule 11A [PDF], states the following:
Thus, the rules were not only broken by Florida and Michigan, but also by Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Iowa held their caucus on January 3, 2008 instead of January 14. New Hampshire held their primary on January 8, 2008 instead of January 22. South Carolina held their primary on January 26, 2008 instead of January 29.
The penalty for violating Rule 11A, according to DNC Delegate Selection Rule 20C1a [PDF], states:
According to Rule 20C1a, Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Michigan, and Florida should have had their delegates reduced by 50%. However, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina were not penalized at all to protect their first-in-the-nation status, while Michigan and Florida were stripped of all their delegates. Thus, the DNC is applying the rules arbitrarily.
source
Thanks to all of you for the info! I really appreciate you all!
Wow, thanks for typing out the entirety of those rules. PDF files suck.
Gary, if the rules for penalizing those states that held their primaries earlier than allowed were actually applied, how would it change the math? My hunch is that Obama would suffer more than Hillary, but I don’t know the facts. Have you calculated those figures? Just curious.
That is exactly the point.
I think that is exactly what gives Clinton a strong case…Obama knows she has a strong case and this is why there is the pressure to shout her out of the race and now try to ignore her…Either the committee will do the right thing or go down in history as enabling the rig…I read that Axelgoebbles is already trying to backpedal saying they would make sacrifices….interestink….No ?
Obviously. He’s very nervous. By all rights, he shouldn’t be playing cat and mouse with this issue at this stage. And she did give him plenty of fair warning that she wasn’t going to drop it.
Now, she’s taken it to the people. And they are marching.
MI is a mess, too, though harder to follow for some. But she’ll also deal with them soon, and then her offer for a full-fledged revote where she even found the money will be remembered.
The ONLY reason he isn’t stopping this now is because it would put her too close on delegate count for comfort.
The fact that her own SDs are NOT jumping ship and there are still many clearly who are waiting to see must also make them nervous. She picked up 2 SDs yesterday. Imagine that. Winning 2 new SDs for a “dead woman.”
It is a collossal embarrassment for the DNC…If Obama gets the nomination the GOP will use it to clobber him amongst other things…If she gets the nomination she will actually use it to her advantage…she becomes champion of the people so to speak…
DNC IS IN HUGE STATE OF DELUSIONAL DENIAL…THIS WILL EXPLODE AND BACKFIRE BEYOND THE PARTY…imho
anninca
Are we going to March? I’m in New York.
Not so arbitrarily when you think about it. It is gamed to advantage Obama.
Thank you so much for this information. I knew I had read it somewhere but hadn’t saved the link.
While those who bother to read it and have the cognitive ability to understand it know that it completely blows the “rulz is the rulz” mantra out of the water, it will not convince those Obamacrats that don’t bother with facts. Ever notice how much they resemble those so-called stupid conservatives that weren’t informed enough to know how to vote based on issues?
OBAMA is travelling around Fl….sayin it’s great to be back…AND AVOIDING ANY MENTION OF THE DELEGATE SCANDAL…Hmmmm
Is he actually engaging with the voters of FL or just doing those Bush-style photo-ops with only the “right” kind of audience?
Usual rally stuff. There’s an article on it somewhere. He had to bus in and work to get a crowd up, but it made a good pic for today.
Gosh, the rules read like a rubic’s cube!!! I am told that this delegate stuff was invented by none other than Howard Dean! What a putz! Yee-haaaaa!!!
Gary -
Thank you. When I argue in support of Hillary I like to have sourced information rather than rumor or innuendo. Your post helped that preference.
My pleasure. Happy it helps.
I’ve also heard, from residents of these states, that there’s a ton of money in it for the earliest states, like Iowa and New Hampshire, a big, or biggest, reason they don’t want to give their first in the nation status. Money and attention from media pouring into the state, hotels, restaurants, etc. Then there are issues like ethanol. No candidate can afford to criticize ethanol or stand up to these states, because they will lose the first caucus, which probably means they will lose the nomination. By Clinton leaving her name on Michigan, she probably lost votes in Iowa. Can’t know how many. Then there are those crooked caucuses.
What a horrible system for so-called “Democratic” Party.
We are so over a two-party system. Hillary on third party 2008!
That’s why Michigan wanted to be first. They are hurting.
annie,
You can download the DNC Delegate Selection Rules and the Rules and Bylaws Committee Regulations from the DNC site. They are PDF files.
I’ve looked over the Delegate Selection Rules and here is some of what I found:
We all know that Obama had TV ads running in Florida and that he also held a press conference there. Both of those activities violate Rule 20.C.1.b.
Iowa held their caucus on 1-3, NH on 1-8, NV on 1-19, and SC on 1-26.
Looks like all except Nevada violated the timing rules and should lose half their delegates.
Hey, the ROOLZ are the ROOLZ!
Actually, there was no press conference. He did answer one question for the press when coming out of a fundraiser (which was allowed).
The funny part? The question was: “Will you help your supporters be seated at the convention.”
His answer: “Yes.”
*hooting*
It was in the Tampa news.
Hre is the PDF of the Obama communist files:
http://www.usasurvival.org/docs/hawaii-obama.pdf
The press conference is tomorrow.
This is rather long, but it explains how that DNC is in the tank for Obama. Spread it far and wide folks. The voters need to know.
Rule 11.A. of the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2008 Democratic National Convention states the following:
11. TIMING OF THE DELEGATE SELECTION PROCESS
A. No meetings, caucuses, conventions or primaries which constitute the first determining stage in the presidential nomination process (the date of the primary in primary states, and the date of the first tier caucus in caucus states) may be held prior to the first Tuesday in February or after the second Tuesday in June in the calendar year of the national convention. Provided, however, that the Iowa precinct caucuses may be held no earlier than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the Nevada first-tier caucuses may be held no earlier than 17 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the New Hampshire primary may be held no earlier than 14 days before the first Tuesday in February; and that the South Carolina primary may be held no earlier than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February. In no instance may a state which scheduled delegate selection procedures on or between the first Tuesday in February and the second Tuesday in June 1984 move out of compliance with the provisions of this rule.
We already know that Florida and Michigan violated Rule 11.A. by moving their primaries to a date before the first Tuesday in February. There is no argument there, but what about Iowa, New Hampshire, and yes, South Carolina too.
Rule 11.A specifically set the date for the primaries & caucuses for those three states as “no earlier than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February” (Iowa), “no earlier than 14 days before the first Tuesday in February” (New Hampshire), and “no earlier than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February” (South Carolina).
Iowa held their caucuses on January 3rd. That’s more than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February. New Hampshire held their primary on January 8th. That’s more than 17 days before the first Tuesday in February. And South Carolina held their primary on January 26th. That’s more than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February.
Under Rule 11.A., five states were in violation of the Democratic National Committee’s Delegate Selection Rules, and as such, all five states should have been punished under Rule 20.C.1.a.
Violation of timing: In the event the Delegate Selection Plan of a state party provides or permits a meeting, caucus, convention or primary which constitutes the first determining stage in the presidential nominating process to be held prior to or after the dates for the state as provided in Rule 11 of these rules, or in the event a state holds such a meeting, caucus, convention or primary prior to or after such dates, the number of pledged delegates elected in each category allocated to the state pursuant to the Call for the National Convention shall be reduced by fifty (50%) percent, and the number of alternates shall also be reduced by fifty (50%) percent. In addition, none of the members of the Democratic National Committee and no other unpledged delegate allocated pursuant to Rule 8.A. from that state shall be permitted to vote as members of the state’s delegation. In determining the actual number of delegates or alternates by which the state’s delegation is to be reduced, any fraction below .5 shall be rounded down to the nearest whole number, and any fraction of .5 or greater shall be rounded up to the next nearest whole number.
Yes, you read that right; under Rule 20.C.1.a., Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, and South Carolina would have all lost their super delegates and had their pledged delegates reduced by half since they all violated Rule 11.A.
However, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina weren’t punished fairly. In fact, they weren’t punished at all.
And what about Florida & Michigan?
Well, we all know what happened to them.
Instead of strictly adhering to Rule 20.C.1.a. and reducing their pledged delegates by 50%, the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee decided to take it a step further. The DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee exercised the authority granted to them by Rules 20.C.5. and 20.C.6. which allowed them to “impose sanctions the Committee deems appropriate.” And what were those sanctions the Committee deemed appropriate? Stripping two of the largest states in the union of all their votes at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Ladies & Gentlemen, this is what happens when the rules aren’t applied equally and fairly. And as I said before, this mess is a result of the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee not applying the rules equally and fairly.
So, the next time someone starts talking about the rules, might I suggest two courses of action:
1.) Read the damn rules first!
-and-
2.) Let them know that the rules were bent to allow for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina to keep their preferred first-in-the-nation status.
the three states were iowa, new hampshire and south carolina.
I believe that I read that SC was deliberately moved up by the DNC so that a majority black state could be among the first states to vote and thereby have greater influence on the outcome.
I believe that if the DNC had followed tradition, that SC was a state that voted much later in the process.
So the DNC set up a very arbitrary process whereby they allowed certain favored states to vote before Feb 5 without any penalties and, hypocritically, gave the death penalty to MI and FL for doing the same thing. The rules were that ANY state that voted before Super Tuesday would lose 50% of their delegates.
Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hapmshire.
Don’t forget that both Fla and Michigan’s primaries were moved up because their REPUBLICAN legislatures moved up the primary dates. Also the rules call for them losing half, not all of their delegates.
New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina all held their primaries early. New Hampshire State law says that they have to hold the primary on a Tuesday a week or more before any “similar election.“ I live in NH, so I am quite familiar with this. It got a lot of in state press here last year.
This is from an earlier No Quarter diary. I am not sure which one or who wrote it:
Florida and Michigan violated Rule 11.A. by moving their primaries to a date before the first Tuesday in February.
In case a bot shows up asking for proof:
And how soon Obi changed his mind:
And also on Jan 15 2008, the same day Obama gave middle finger to Florida, the same day of the Michigan primary, team Obama said this:
Ack linky to the Obama campaign saying “Michigan is Meaningless” as Michigan returns rolled in is here.
I found this part to be particularly interesting. Especially since Obama surrogates John Conyers and his unhinged wife did radio ads for the Obama campaign in Michigan specifically telling people how to vote. I seem to recall that the Edwards surrogates did the same thing but have no concrete proof of it.
The only “fair” way to allocate the 40% of uncommitted votes would be to split them between the four candidates who took their names off from the ballot: Biden, Edwards, Obama, and Richardson. And since a 10% threshold does not entitle any candidate to any delegates Obama gets exactly NO delegates from Michigan.
I like your precise rule logic!
The McCain campaign is probably already designing “Michigan is Meaningless” bumperstickers with Obama’s picture on them for distribution from their HQ in that state.
Exactly, all McCain has to do is say, Obama did not want to count your votes. Florida is gone even before we start, if Obama is the nominee, and MI too.
Thanks much, AF. Quite informative.
Excellent re timelines.
AF catfish -
I’m not a “bot” but I do appreciate your citation. It gives me better data to argue in favor of Senator Clinton. Thank you.
he was lso pimping Bush for years bagging on Gore and kerry in real time.
He’s just a power seeker.
More proof (OK it’s a politico commenter, but still):
Well and truly said.
Sounds like one of the all-to-common nuts that would get well-paid for oozing out that false, socially destructive effluent too.
It’s amazing, sad and enraging all at the same time.
Thank you for speaking out well against it.
Some choice comments from that “Obama says Florida Doesn’t Count” article on Jan 15:
What do you expect Sullivan is a Republican as is the shrill, Huffington. Anything they say or write is only done so they can divide Democrats.
imo, sullivan has no more credibility than dear old toe sucker dick morris.
He strikes me as very similar. Snake in the grass type.
Hmmmmm, maybe if they were treated like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRRlEyplGQ8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLZPIqwMmvk
At the end of this controversy is the question, “who won in Michigan and Florida? Hillary. So she takes all the delegates. Simple.
Sullivan thinks that the Obama campaign can deliver a win on the Iraq war.
By being ‘The One’, Obama can bring about the political resolution needed both here and in Iraq.
Which is naive on so many levels, with that special version of arrogence that Obama supporters seem to have in spades.
Sullivan’s real arrogance, in my opinion, is that his support of Obama seems to be only based on the thought that Sullivan’s views would be validated. He sees in Obama what Bush couldn’t deliver, the chance for Sullivan to claim he was right in supporting the war.
Here is the Bill Maher episode that sealed that thought for me.
Sullivan starts pleading his case for redemption at 2:27
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AmXwXTBKxQ&feature=related
Unbelievable. I thought only Obama believed he had magical powers.
I think Andrew Sullivan’s been channeling the late Madeleine Kahn’s man-eating send-up of Marlene Dietrich in Blazing Saddles, Lili von Schtupp: “Oh, my Gawd! It’s twue! It’s twue!”
Hahahaha. I love that movie and especially Madeline Kahn (in almost anything). But now I fear that the next time I see it I will be reminded of Sullivan. Help! My eyes are burning.
Bill Maher is just another of the long list of tv and radio shows I’ve given up on during this primary season. In the universe of sexist media, he’s one of the worst offenders.
Agreed! I’ve done the same thing (given up watching Maher, and many, many others)…I rarely watch TV now, which makes for a happier existence.
Me too.
TV blackout. Back to reading.
I so agree with you.
But Bill Maher is sooo ’90’s!
Obambi is up the Hill without a paddle.
While the Super Delegates (think: wrinkled “Member’s Only” jacket, donut remains on corner of lips, 90-day foreclosure notice in one fist for a $900,000 home not worth $350,000, Obama supporter on the the other fist offering plum fairies if said SD votes for Obama) hide in the bushes taking aim.
Fools! Obama doesn’t stand a chance in the GE.
This is the same guy who trumpeted the glorious qualities of Bush post-9/11, defended the patriot act, and cheered and defended and presented the argument of the administration to go to war in Iraq.
He became less supportive of the Republicans when they tried to ban gay marriage and oh and he is gay.
So, i would not listen to him…the French have a very nice saying it says “opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.” So…you got my drift.
But CHRIS,
Just because everyone has one doesn’t mean that pundidiots like Sullivan have to be one does it? That isn’t an act of nature, that’s a personal choice.
That could be it.
Thanks to all of you for answering my Q about the 3 states! You guys are great!
Sullivan is a nut.
The only reason I see him with Obama is because he hates Hillary so much.
The DNC superdelagates need to think about the fall campaign, see this map from RealClearPolitics data. Also they need to consider who “won” the primary using standard metrics (i.e. not congressional district delegate-based fuzzy math that have no bearing on the winner-take-all electoral college in the fall)
Clinton vs. Obama map of vote totals based on relative vote totals for each state:
http://services.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/view/SP9G~OsOtha6NcUpvbf1O2~
there’s also electoral-vote.com, which consistently shows hillary beating mccain and obama losing to mccain.
the sd’s know all this.
they just don’t care.
hillary or mccain. no other option.
Somebody tell Sullivan hating the Clintons is soooo 1995. Heck, even Fox likes her now.
