MEMO #2 to Superdelegates: The American People Want Clinton, Not Obama and Not McCain
By Truthteller on May 25, 2008 at 2:02 PM in Barack Obama, Electability, Hillary Clinton, Indiana, John McCain, Superdelegates

According to Gallup’s 20-24 MAY tracking poll of registered voters, Clinton enjoys a statistically significant lead over John McCain in a hypothetical general election, while McCain enjoys a statistically insignificant lead over Barack Obama, whose popularity is slipping in Gallup’s daily surveys.
Superdelegates, allow me to apostrophize you: the American people desire neither McCain nor Obama as President; they desire Hillary Clinton, the one candidate who truly empathizes with working class Americans.

Hillary Clinton addresses the crowd during a rally in Hammond, Indiana, on 28 March. Hillary Clinton won the Chicago suburb, even though the working and middle class voters of this city are residents of the metropolitan area Obama calls home.

I’/m sure that Donna Brazille, the independent thinker that she is, will be acting on this anytime now. Sigh.
The name is Donkey brazziere (I borrowed it from one of NQ’s commmenters). LOL.
I’m still cracking up over it (juvenile, I know).
Thanks loads: this is the first LOL I’ve had since David Evilrod orchestrated the media’s “Hillary-is-solicing Obama’s murder” symphony of malevolence. (Harriet in CA)
I’m waiting for some kind of question to the Obama campaign to explain these obvious problematic signs. I’m not, of course, naive enough to think they will answer honestly, which would be something like what I read today, “Bill, Bill, Bill….you gotta help us! LOL*
Man, talk about a “balloon.”
They can kiss THAT kind of help good-bye unless Michelle herself asks Bill and begs forgiveness for her statement that she might not work for Hillary. And Obama should have to come out and say his Reagan speech was “misspoken.”
He was wrong. Bill had the answer. Mea culpas all the way around.
Then…..Bill can give him a big ole smack on the cheek, and turn the Big Dawg loose on convincing us all to give up our anger.
The staffer was right. Only Bill, frankly, can do that.
But Bill needs the luv to be motivated to do so.
So….back to Obama court. Will he return the ball?
I doubt it.
Personally, i would like to see the DNC/Superdelegates discussing this trend…other than saying “dems will come home” THEY are the ones that are going to give this election to McCain.
They are discussing it. Make no mistake. The ones left? No dummies.
Those are the thinkers in our party. Is it “our” party?
Well, anyway, they are thinking.
Hillary has done her best and continues to do so. It was HER job to give them an argument they could put forward. She’s done that already. She’ll cinch it by the end.
Then…..frankly…..it’s beyond her control. What will be will be.
If we lose the White House, it’s not the end of the world. I don’t see the congress getting automatc reelctions. They are performing dismally to the public. (not sure I agree, entirely, btw)
So we may just see a true shake-up. I am a moderate, so this concerns me. I saw people losing their seats after the war vote who were seasoned policians. I personally think people throw the baby out with the bathwater too much.
But ….
That’s how it goes.
Byrd even may lose his seat over this. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants.
I’m starting to think that the democratic party want’s to lose in November. None of this makes any sense to me…. why would they turn their back on the canidate who can win. yes, I voted for Clinton, however I gave Obama a fair chance. At first I was for both, but as I began to know more about Obama I was extremely turned off by him. I also don’t feel he is genuine. Many people think clinton voters are bitter, but everyone I know who will vote for Mccain in November if Obama is the nominee all say the same thing… HE HAS NO SUBSTANCE, and his lack of experience worries me. Why can’t the superdelgates see that????????
Maybe they do want to lose; they may suspect that the next Great Depression is coming during the next Administration, and they want a GOP Prez in the White House to take the blame for it.
Oh now the precious and ms. dong of the sourpuss ain’t gonna like THOSE numbers very much now will they. The anger bubbling just beneath the surface that will be unleashed if they foist this unelectable conman on the Democratic voters is going to be something to see. If the DNC elites are stupid enough to do this you’ll see the Dems lose BIG for the Presidency, make some gains in the Senate and House and then cease to be a majority party overnight with the tsunami of defections to independent and the repugs. I’d really like to see some numbers of how many they’ve lost to people changing their registration as is. And it is hubris beyond the ability of words to convie for anyone from obamalamadingdong to say Bill Clinton is the only one who can broker a healling. That’s like saying a rape victem is the only one who can bring the rapist and the community back together again. I have two words for obamalamadingdong, ms. dong and all the kiioaide halucenating obamazoids out there…here ya go…I’ll say them REAL slow so you can under stand…F-U-C-K O-F-F!!! There, was that clear enough for you? Even the ones in the 57th state should understand THAY!
Most women will not vote for Obama, Sweeeeeetie! They won’t say they won’t because no one wants to be called racist, but women know he disregards us. It is his anti-female stance why we won’t vote for him. He wants women who adore him, not women who he views as equals. This is all about another man being promoted by lots of powerful rich men as their surrogate..Edwards (loser for prez), Dodd (loser for prez) , Springsteen (faux working class), Richardson (loser for prez) , Leahy (tedious), Kennedy (sorry he’s ill, but loser for prez), Michael Moore (blowhard), Kerry (loser for prez). These men think that women will do as they say???They are so clueless. And NARAL, they are just pitiful.
Sen. Clinton has an op-ed this morning in the NY Daily News, “Why I Continue to Run.” It’s great, and I’m re-printing most of it here (from Hillary1000)~~
But I was deeply dismayed and disturbed that my comment would be construed in a way that flies in the face of everything I stand for - and everything I am fighting for in this election.
And today, I would like to more fully answer the question I was asked: Why do I continue to run, even in the face of calls from pundits and politicians for me to leave this race?
I am running because I still believe I can win on the merits. Because, with our economy in crisis, our nation at war, the stakes have never been higher - and the need for real leadership has never been greater - and I believe I can provide that leadership.
I am not unaware of the challenges or the odds of my securing the nomination - but this race remains extraordinarily close, and hundreds of thousands of people in upcoming primaries are still waiting to vote. As I have said so many times over the course of this primary, if Sen. Obama wins the nomination, I will support him and work my heart out for him against John McCain. But that has not happened yet.
I am running because I believe staying in this race will help unite the Democratic Party. I believe that if Sen. Obama and I both make our case - and all Democrats have the chance to make their voices heard - in the end, everyone will be more likely to rally around the nominee.
I am running because my parents did not raise me to be a quitter - and too many people still come up to me at my events, grip my arm and urge me not to walk away before this contest is over. More than 17 million Americans have voted for me in this race - the most in presidential primary history.
I am running for all those women in their 90s who’ve told me they were born before women could vote, and they want to live to see a woman in the White House. For all the women who are energized for the first time, and voting for the first time. For the little girls - and little boys - whose parents lift them onto their shoulders at our rallies, and whisper in their ears, “See, you can be anything you want to be.” As the first female candidate in this position, I believe I have a responsibility to finish this race.
I am running for all the men and women I meet who wake up every day and work hard to make a difference for their families. People who deserve a shot at the American Dream - the chance to save for college, a home and retirement; to afford quality health care for their families; to fill the gas tank and buy the groceries with a little left over each month.
I believe I won a 40-point victory two weeks ago in West Virginia and a 35-point victory in Kentucky this past week - despite voters being repeatedly told this race is over - because I’m standing up for them. I’m standing up for the deepest principles of our party and for an America that values the middle class and rewards hard work.
Finally, I am running because I believe I’m the strongest candidate to stand toe-to-toe with Sen. McCain. Delegate math might be complicated - but electoral math is not. Our campaign is winning the popular vote - and we’ve been winning the swing states we need to get 270 electoral votes and take back the White House: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arkansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Michigan, Florida and West Virginia.
Oh, look, a reality based president!
What will we do?
How will we function?
Funny, lobbyists, and such are the least capable of running Washington, the least able to make the big decisions, or accept the consequences of failed ones.
I hope, someone with enough pull somewhere sees what’s happening here, and really steps up to clean this up…
Obama is a corrupt inept.
I still cannot believe super delegates aren’t paying attention to poll after poll after poll that shows her crushing McCain in popular vote and even more so in the electoral college. Meanwhile Obama loses to McCain in both, but even more so in the electoral college. We see polls upon polls from Ohio and Florida showing us losing if Obama is the nominee. We get creamed in FLorida if he is the nominee. Hillary is the answer to getting a bigger majority in the senate and house, getting back the white house, and electing the right person for the job. He doesn’t have the winning voting blocks, he doesn’t have 270 electoral votes, he doesn’t have my support.
Perhaps their motives are not so high-minded as you imagine.
I think in the end Hillary does quite well. I understand what motives you refer to but these same people can still flip on a dime and nominate Hillary which is what I predict happening.
isn’t that the truth! They are leaving us with do recourse other than voting McCain but I don’t really think they care. Screw the people, who cares?
Oh Hawkeye …. they DO pay attention, anytime one poll goes in BHO favor…that is breaking news
He puts into play reliably democratic states like Mass and California. Minnesota will go bright red. That’s not even counting the TRADITIONAL swing states that won’t make a dent into …
HEY SUPERDELEGATES !!!! OBAMA= MCGOVERN!!!!! OBAMA=DUKKAKIS!!!!!
stop smoking the HOPIUM and get with it!!!!
This is a great sign! A delegate is going with Hillary and she cites the popular vote as reason! Obama is in trouble! Plenty of time between now and August for Hillary to make her case. And it is a solid one. Popular vote, electoral map, clear second half winner, etc. Add in all of Obama’s negatives and he is in deep trouble. He really should have settled Florida and Michigan when he had a chance to negotiate a deal. Tactical blunder come home to roost and Hillary as always is still standing to benefit from his ineptitude!
KimberlyStarr said, “I’m starting to think that the democratic party want’s to lose in November.”
It’s not all of us in the Democratic Party. I hope we, who are for Hillary and experience and a proven track record of solid government, still count for something.
The DNC in the last eight years backed the loser and they are doing it again, so we need to speak out where it counts.
Blogs are great, but many older people are not on line. Others can’t afford computers. The media pays little to no attention to us, because we are not a pro Obama blog. Neither do Donna Brazile or the rest of the DNC. Same reason. Their minds are set on losing to the Republicans once again.
We need to rally behind Hillary everywhere we can and get really grassroots proactive.
I know that many of you are doing what I’m about to suggest, but we need to contact all those super delegates, including the ones who have said they are for Obama, and tell them why we want her and not Obama.
Call them.
Email them.
Write to them.
Flood them with calls and emails.
Don’t let up the pressure.
Pick an email the media week, like June 1-7, or make it a “flood the CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS comments lines or switchboards week.
Letters to the Editors still count for those who are not computer savvy.
Getting on call in shows could help. Call in on the Republican lines, if they are ignoring the Democratic ones on CSPAN I and 2.
Let them know how you, as private citizens, feel.
If they won’t or don’t listen, then tell them what you plan to do if they go with Obama instead of Hillary.
If they continue to ignore all of us, write her in on the ballots in the states that take write in votes and make them count in November.
I’d hate to think that voting for McCain is the only alternative, but if it is, so be it.
And let me say this, his little plan to “rebuild” the electoral map is hilariously stupid. As TM points out, bad timing to be experimenting with the map. Secondly, he wants to ignore Appalachia and the rust belt states, and move on to the mountain west….lol. What states there does he think he can win? COlorado maybe, but what else. He can’t win Arizona obviously, not even Hillary can against McCain. He can’t win Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or Alaska, even though a few thousand people CAUCUSED for him there, we will lose those states. New Mexico? Nevada? Not without the Latino vote, and guess what, I am a latino, and let me tell you, he has squandered his vote with the community by pimping out Bill Richardson as the ultimate Latino, not realizing there are more than just Mexicans as Latinos and he can’t win the Latino vote against McCain anyways.
The problem isn’t just that abandoning the rust belt and Appalachia is a losing strategy. It’s that if the Democratic Party abandons them, then they will have NO VOICE at a time when they desperately need one.
Are we going in the direction where both major parties’ constituencies are the top 15%, while we head deeper and deeper into the New Gilded Age?
Someone has to represent those who are losing the class war.
SO he wants to trade Colorado and Iowa for West Virginia, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania? What a dumbf***.
But he will redraw the map. In fact, it will appear as one large amorphous blot of red ink after he is finished with it.
lol.
but now, now, truthteller, let’s be kind. i’m sure obaby can put a little blue on the map. dc and maybe, just maybe, illinois.
poor obaby, will have to go back home and whine about how those typical white people just don’t like him.
we can all send him a blankie.
hillary or mccain. no other option.
Always some interesting perspective on Obama here.

This guy is scary.
That’s right truthteller
It’s all about Electability. Hillary is the one, not Ob. The last three months have taken a heavy toll on Ob. He’s being exposed. Just wait until Rezko turns states evidence to save his skin. All the Super D’s will flock to Hillary at the Dem. Convention at the end of August.
Someone was asking about money from obama to the supers who have declared for him…
ESTIMATES OF REPORTED CASH PAYMENTS TO SUPERDELEGATES:
From:

Leadership PAC Donations & Super-Delegate Endorsements
Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton
30 March 2008
Since January 2005, Barack Obama has outspent both John McCain (2.5:1) and Hillary Clinton (3:1) in currying favor with fellow senators and representatives.
As of December 31, 2007, Obama’s leadership PAC, The Hope Fund, had already given $299,000 to Democratic Senatorial and House candidates (incumbents or challengers) for the 2008 election cycle. Neither Clinton (HILLPAC) or McCain (Straight Talk America) made any contribution to federal candidates during 2007.
These tables show the extent of Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton’s leadership PAC donations and whether or not the candidate has been endorsed for president, if that is known.
Clinton total 2006 - $107,000 payouts
Obama Total 2006-07 - $568,526.00 payouts
I have seen Other reports place Obamas contributions to superdelagates who have endorsed him to closer to 1 million for the current 08 year.
Can he Buy the Vote? Apparently, YES HE CAN!
Looks like the new defining principle of the DNC superdelegates is SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!
Take a look at the tables and how the supers are voting

Media hype: How small stories become big news
Excerpt
It’s the superdelegates who need to know about the polls, and the repudiation of Obama by the Dem party faithful. Those are the people who will select the nominee. Don’t need letters to the editor. Need letters to the SDs. And the DNC. I sent back their latest solicitation for funds this AM, and NARAL’s, too.
Let everyone involved know that it’s Obama hysteria pumping up a weak candidate that is destroying the Democratic party.
I disagree on this point: the Obama SDs think they can use the media as a cover to nominate the inept candidate. So we need a two-pronged attack so the SDs have no cover. Keep sending letters to the editor! And don’t forget what No Blood said on the rest, letters to the SDs and NARAL are very important as well!
I’m not disagreeing - but genuinely asking - why would letters to NARAL be important now? I have written on pro-Hillary blogs that everyone should STOP sending money to even the NARAL state chapters who didn’t go along with the endorsement.I wrote that not another red cent should be contributed until state chapters tell us whether or not NARAL received money from the Obama campaign in exchange for their “endorsement”. If these state chapters want to stay solvent - they need to find out the truth and spill the beans.
I haven’t thought they were relevant for 20 years. Why would I pay attention now? LOL*
Is Barack Obama buying Super Delegate?

You be the judge but notice this:
Wait it gets worse…look at this:
Well well well….what do you think? Look what the author says:
YES - ABSOLUTELY…Do they think this isn’t going to come out on a more PUBLIC basis? This is going to leave not just a bad taste, but a HORRIFIC taste in “regular voters’” mouths - most of whom don’t know about all this back door money exchange. MY GOD - the entire DNC is courrpt as he–. The entire way they RUN their election system to choose a nominee - no wonder Democrats lose - they are their own WORST enemy. They need to #1 - stop this back door money exchange which totally invalidates Super Delegates and causes their “votes” to be suspect. #2 They need to scrub their entire system and go by electoral college ONLY for each state - that way at the end, the winner of their party’s season will be the one with the higher electoral college which will be their STRONGEST candidate for the General - period. Dems may still , but at least they would lose knowing that they put up their STRONGEST candidate. DUUUUHHHH.
OT something to consider: the wannabe Super-Friend super-hero Obama has ended up looking more and more a member of the Legion of Doom as time passes. In the process of this long drawn out fight he has elevated his opponent to Super-Friend of the people. West Virgina and Kentucky are case in point.
Hillary has captured the heartland and Obama can only sit idly by with mouth agape at what has happened to him. Axelrod can’t pull this one out of the crapper, its circulating down as we speak.
Hillary ‘08 + ‘12
Like I said, get on your phones, computers, typewriters, etc. and get really grassroots proactive.
Contact all those super delegates, including the ones who have said they are for Obama, and tell them why we want Hillary, not Obama.
Call them.
Email them.
Write to them.
Flood them with calls and emails.
Don’t let up the pressure.
DO A MEDIA and SUPER DELEGATE WEEK. MAYBE June 1-7?
Flood the CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS comments lines or switchboards week.
Make them pay attention.
ACTION MEMO!!!!!
The DNC is in big trouble financially, down to $3.5 million against $35 million for the Republicans
Support the full seating of Florida and Michigan.
Call the DNC and the finance committee in Washington and let them know they will not see another contribution now or in the future unless all the Florida and Michigan delegates are seated.
The main switchboard for the DNC is: 202-863-8000. The number that deals specifically with contributions or questions about contributions is: 877-336-7200
Superdelegates, remember we’re the one who put you where you are right now, so better you listen to us and support Hillary. If not, we will not support you either. Come election your name will not be in the ballot. Sometimes you have to believe what the polls says especially a lot of them says Hillary will beat McCain in this general election. It’s suicide for you to divert that, unless you want McCain in the White House. By the way, I will not vote for Obama in any circumstances.
Truth Teller, thanks for the graphic. Some folks are more atune to the visual side of things. What IS interesting is that at NO time has Hillary droped below Mccain. BO seems to have a volitility problem.
It seems that when someone does obtain the “drop” rights to Michelle and BO productions this can not help BO. It my not “help” Senator Clinton as she will be required to distance herself from any remarks or blunders that are not her own, still it certainly won’t hurt her.
Given that Obama has gotten zapped on Mondays with bad news…time will tell.

[...] MEMO #2 to Superdelegates: The American People Want Clinton, Not Obama and Not McCain [...]
Remember the “Bradley Effect” means that that “insignificant” McCain lead over Obama might really be significant. Voters often say they will vote for a black candidate, but in the privacy of the voting booth, pull the lever for a white.
So Hillary may have a ten point differential over Obama, who may have a five point deficit under McCain.
But who are we to point out obvious reality to the inmates of the superdelegate asylum?
I guess…somehow…someway…the Gallup Poll is…RACIST!!! Yeah - that’s it, the Gallup Poll must be…RACE BAITING! Ummmmmm - The Gallup Poll is being “insensitive” to Obama and his supporters - the Gallup Poll is “taking the low road” by reporting the truth! For the love of God - the Gallup Poll needs to quit polling and bow out of this race - let the Rasmussen Poll handle it.
Truthteller - forgot to thank you for posting - very informative.
Great Article!!!!!!!
OBAMA WILL NOT in the GE!!!!!!! FORCE The SDs to vote at the convention!!!!!!!

PLEASE MAKE CALLS FOR HILLARY THIS WEEK!!!!!!!
Pam
When a candidate accepts votes that were not for them (Obama) then that person has no right to be in an election. If someone votes, their vote should be counted in full towards the person they voted for…. period ! I’m ashamed by these people who call themselves Americans and give our votes to those who they did not vote for ! Utter Rubbish !
