The Michelle Obama Diversion

I give the Obama folks credit–they’ve tried mightily to shift the meaning of my original report. I learned last week that Republicans have a tape of Michelle in a racist rant. She does so while part of a panel discussion. I do not know where this occurred. And the specific date is not known either. BuzzHill offered up his view earlier today but I have not confirmed one way or another.

At no time have I claimed to have the tape or promised to deliver said tape. In fact, I reported that Republicans working on behalf of McCain are desperate to keep this under wraps until Obama is formally nominated in August. Got it?

So as trolls stagger by to taunt and provoke, have pity on them–they cannot read and are devoid of comprehension skills. I guess that’s why they are for Obama. Figures. Meanwhile, with or without said tape, we do know that the Obamas participated for almost 20 years in a church that espoused racism. They supported the race baiter Jeremiah Wright with financial contributions. So enough of the pretense that they were attending a mainstream, vanilla, anodyne Christian church. Au contraire. Non. I believe my sources and believe the tape will appear after August and before November.

Is there no Democrat who can get this tape before August - to avoid a suicide nomination?

Comment by The Real Hope | 2008-06-05 00:33:40

Why in the hell would we care about a suicide nomination when the Democratic Party has eaten its own by demolishing the good name of Hillary Clinton? The Obama brownshirts have done everything to maim our chosen candidate Hillary Clinton. Let them have their suicide nomination. It couldn’t happen to a more gutless fucking party.

As Larry said at no time did he say he had the tape. So we will just have to go with what we know. These 2 people who want the White House hang with some racists and a guy who happily bombed this country. Then there is Obama’s cousin Odinga who cut off heads in Kenya trying to overthrow the Kenyan President until said President gave him a position in the govt. To me people like this don’t belong in our White House. What next — are they going to sacrifice virgins?

Comment by Padraig | 2008-06-05 15:32:15

Wow.

Odinga had the votes in that election, btw. The government has used every trick they had to shut down the election. There has been violence, by both sides, but to chalk up Kenyan political violence to Odinga is insane.

But then, so is claiming that Rev. Wright is racist. There’s no evidence of that. He’s said some ridiculous things, especially about AIDS in the US, but that all come under the heading of leftist, radical critiques of American society. So hate him for being a radical, and for being an idiot, but for being a racist? That’s nuts.

BTW, that virgin comment is flat-out racist. Unless you’re actually a member of the KKK, you should probably think before you post shit like that.

You all have a choice - vote for a candidate who you don’t like, but who stands with you on every conceivable political issue, or vote out of spite for McCain, who is heading the party that has brought us the outing of a CIA agent, death and destruction in Iraq, the undermining of the constitution, and utter negligence in the face of the disappearance of a major American city. This is do or die time - the moment where we really do have to decide what matters. Hillary Clinton has already made that choice - her country means more to her than herself (isn’t this very fact one of the reasons she has engendered such astounding support throughout the nation?). Don’t kid yourselves - if Obama loses in November it won’t be because he’s unelectable. It will be because you all worked to defeat him.

As a Nader voter in Florida 2000, let me tell you this - there is no honor in voting your conscience when your conscience gets innocent people killed.

It ain’t over as long as the Republicans have attack machines. You want to blame the messenger but these Obama’s are a mess. Obama’s pal Rezko was found guilty and Obama said he didn’t know that Rezko was like that. Like right — everything this guy says is a lie.

Comment by Tom | 2008-06-04 23:55:41

It is indeed over for Hillary, this time around. Continuing to attack Obama at this point only serves to undermine our chances of reclaiming the White House at this point.

Please tell me what you and others here believe is to be gained by continuing to smear our candidate. Do you honestly believe Obama would be a bad president? That his agenda is so radically different from Hillary’s that it doesn’t matter who wins in November? I mean, let’s get real.

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-06-05 00:17:21

Others have explained this before, so I have little hope that this will sink through the layer of concrete that comprises your head. But here goes …
Obama may be your candidate. But he is NOT our candidate. He is not qualified for the position of POTUS. Electing him for that position is the only thing worse than electing McCain as President. No amount of taunts, insults, or other nonsense can change that.

Comment by Tom | 2008-06-05 00:36:27

I know you’ve been bombarded with negative comments from Obama supporters over here, but I did not come here bearing insults, and I’d appreciate the same courtesy from you, jwrjr.

That said, would you mind elaborating on what, specifically, you believe will be gained by a McCain presidency rather than an Obama presidency? I am genuinely confused as to why McCain is better on the issues, given that his positions are in extreme opposition to those of both Clinton and Obama. What kind of Supreme Court Justices would McCain nominate compared to Clinton/Obama? What is McCain’s Iraq strategy compared to Clinton/Obama? What is McCain’s healthcare proposal compared to those of Clinton/Obama?

From my vantage point, as an Obama supporter, Clinton is FAR better on the issues than McCain is. Why don’t you regard Obama as being better on the issues than McCain? (Or if, as I suspect, there are other matters that you are privileging over the issues - from the war to the economy to civil rights - what are these other concerns, and why do they take precedence over the issues?

Thanks for your honest consideration. I am genuinely interested to know where you stand on this.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-06-05 00:39:08

If you were truly concerned with policy, you would have supported Clinton. Because your support bespeaks a predilection for personality and not for rigorous policy proposals, I recommend everyone here ignore your questions. Besides, you are a Chicagoan who voted for the local personality and not for the qualified candidate. In other words, you are a mindless machine Democrat who merely followed orders.

Comment by Tom | 2008-06-05 01:08:38

Actually, since you asked, I am deeply concerned with policy - and integrity. I voted for Obama in Illinois only because both of my preferred candidates had dropped out by then (Kucinich and Edwards).

I found his positions and Clinton’s similar enough, but as a former educator I especially appreciated Obama’s outlook on education (specifically with regards to the expansion of Teach For America). Also, if I may be frank, I had not forgiven Clinton for voting us into war in Iraq. I felt very betrayed by her and her fellow disappointing Democrats in Congress at the time who coalesced on this (Edwards included, but at least he apologized later). I would’ve happily campaigned and voted for Hillary in the general election, but I did not favor her to Obama.

All of this notwithstanding, I have defended Hillary Clinton among friends and in the blogosphere alike, even as I have preferred Obama when it came down to just the two of them. I believe neither is perfect, but that both are infinitely better than McCain on the issues. Neither would bring the agenda that I envision for America, but both of theirs is so much closer than that of McCain. Do you disagree?

Comment by Mr. X | 2008-06-05 01:24:26

About the war, did you know Obama was FOR it in 2004? He was not in the sonate at the time they voted on giving Bush power to invade Iraq, so he cannot claim to have been right on the war if he wasn’t even there. He also voted exactly the same way as Hillary in all war related bills except for one.

Comment by noproblama | 2008-06-05 03:13:20

Obama is a puppet controlled by big money. His campaign was designed by Axelrod to go after the most gullible and easily controlled demographics. He has questionable relationships, political and personal. He has no resume, no grasp of the issues, no qualifications other than an obvious need for self-aggrandizement.

Yes, I disagree.

Comment by Padraig | 2008-06-05 15:41:06

You’re also ignorant.

Obama’s campaign has been marked by millions of small donations. This is a game changer - a candidate who doesn’t rely on corps for all his money. Does this mean Obama is a magical anti-corp candidate - nope. But it does mean that we all have more influence with him than we ever would under McCain. If Cltinon had relied less on Mark Penn, I think she would have done something similar, and probably would have won. Hell if she’d ever apologized for the vote on AUMF, she would have won in a walk. She’s a fine candidate, a great Democrat, and would have made one hell of a president. But Obama has the delegates, and someone has to win. Why is this evidence of corruption?

Frankly, it’s his agenda that worries most of us here. Had you mentioned issues, yeah, you have a wee bit ‘o traction with that. Gus, Tom,

Ah the fearmongering!!! Roe vs. Wade will never be overturned and certainly not during McCain’s presidency. First, he will have a democratic congress which will not permit it and second the republicans would like to get elected after his presidency as well. Before you retort - SCOTUS appointees must be vetted by congress - which is as we know democrat.

Both draft bills currently in the congress are authored by a democrat. if they are passed it will be by a democratic congress.

Just because he is riding the backlash of the current administration’s fuck-ups, does not mean he is in anyway qualified to correct them. He will lead this country into an even deeper hole on economy, Iraq, foreign fuel dependency, etc. MCCAIN is a better choice by far. At least we know where he stands when it comes to being proud of his country.

MUST READ: Whitey Hoax blown wide open
by The Termite [Subscribe]
Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 09:42:39 AM PDT
Conservative NRO blogger Jim Geraghty asks why the apocryphal Whitey Tape bears such an astonishing resemblance to a plot point in the 2006 political thriller novel The Power Broker, by Stephen Frey:

A major plot line of the novel is the presidential campaign of Democrat Jesse Wood, aiming to be the country’s first African American president — “Wood was handsome, smart, charismatic, and being mentioned increasingly often in the press as someone who could unite a twenty-first century America growing more, not less, racially and economically divided.” (p.35)

He’s a U.S. Senator from New York and former senior partner at a prestigious law firm. His backers include “some of the old Black Panthers.” He wants to make Puerto Rico a state, and a recurring figure in his campaign is a controversial minister from Philadelphia called “Jefferson Roundtree.”

Holy. Shit.

The Termite’s diary :: ::
Of course, there’s a videotape. And on the tape, the candidate uses the word “whitey.”

Later the tape is used for blackmail by an ally, and then the real badguy — a Texan who owns a giant oil company named Hewitt (sorry, Hugh) — gets his hands on the tape. The description of the appropriate timing of the release of the videotape on p. 237 will sound familiar to those tracking the rumors of the alleged Michelle Obama tape.

Hewitt thought for a second. “I’m going to let Jesse win the nomination and let the public get used to him as the Democratic candidate. Give the country some time to get to know Jesse Wood, to start to like him. And they will because he’s a very likeable guy. Then I’m going to drop the bomb, after everyone’s started to like him. That way the clip will have maximum effect and people will be as angry as they can be. Whites and blacks. Whites for the obvious reason, blacks because they’ll feel like he let ‘em down.”

Now. Either author Stephen Frey is clairvoyant, writing this book in 2006. Or this is one of the all time amazing coincidences. Or whoever started this rumor got the idea from a novel.

Remember, this is coming from a conservative blogger on a conservative site (in fact, Geraghty explains why he wants this shit debunked, which is interesting reading in and of itself).

If there was any lingering doubt as to whether this tape actually existed, this should drive a stake right through its heart. Not only was this a hoax; it was a poorly conceived hoax, designed by people with the brains of a garden slug and the morals of a nose hair trimmer.

Larry Johnson is a boil on the ass of the body politic. May he rot.

Obama will be bringing Chicago style payouts and politics to Washington. Both the media and the politicians are already lining up at the trough.

After Obama takes care of the left wing of the party, there won’t be any resources available for hard-working Americans.

Meet the new boss…..

greenley — but Nancy Pelosi is going to force Hillary out by Friday — can’t have any decent candidates showing Obama up for the fraud he is.

It’s time for an empty suit, an inexperienced, race baiting, misogynistic, corrupt politician?

Whether there is a tape or not, it is completely plausible that she said such things, that’s the central problem. She hates white people.

Besides, Obama’s got other problems.

oh come on whats your proof.

First it was there is a tape, now its there is no tape but I could see her saying it so it doesnt matter that there wasnt a tape.
