Who’s Less Bad?

Friday’s Washington Post has a story on how the McCain campaign is looking to woo disaffected Clinton supporters. The GOP thinks it has a shot at these voters who believe Obama is out of touch with them and because McCain is a “maverick” who may be able to accommodate their interests.

That is why the Obama campaign is trying so hard to tie McCain to Bush — it’s the maverick thing. If Clinton voters see that McCain can be “worked with” they might jump to him rather than hang with a nominee who has so offended them for the past several months.

Obama advisors are confident the Clinton supporters’ flirtation with candidate McCain will wane and they will vote Democratic in the fall.

Polls do not necessarily bear this out, however.

Over the past three months, Washington Post-ABC News polls showed an average of 25 percent of those backing Clinton in the primaries “defecting” to McCain in a hypothetical match-up with Obama. A new poll from the Pew Research Center conducted just before the final Democratic primaries put the number at 28 percent.

Other data in the new Pew poll may add to the concern among some Democrats. In that survey, the percentage of Clinton supporters holding a positive view of Obama continues to slide: Forty-five percent of them view Obama favorably, down from 58 percent in December, before the voting started.

Apparently to further know Obama isn’t necessarily to like him.

In addition, those Clinton supporters voting for Obama in the fall may actually be soft support. While they will vote for Obama, it is not a positive vote for Obama, just one against McCain. If these aren’t “Obama people,” they might be won by some judicious mix of argument and policy. We shall see.

Nearly 6 in 10 of those backing Clinton over Obama in the primary said they would support Obama in the fall, with about half of those voters saying they are motivated to do so primarily to vote “against McCain” rather than “for Obama.”

Lastly, this WP piece noted that in the 1980 election when Ted Kennedy contested all the way to the convention, a higher percentage of Kennedy’s supporters (47) said they would NOT vote for Carter. Although only about half that number followed through, it was enough to help sink Carter and elect Ronald Reagan to his first term.

I thought the Kennedy/Carter fight was in 76, but you’re right, it was 80. I forgot he tried to contest a sitting president’s re-election bid.

It amazes me just how stupid these Obamabots are. They are ignorant of history and they believe the lies Obama tells.

They seem to believe that nearly half billion dollars that Obama is spending comes from “grass-root” supporters.

Follow the money — that is where Obama’s policies will be. The people funding his campaign will be expecting huge dividends on their investment.

Comment by Kinky Ogremann | 2008-06-07 02:21:20

Fox did a story on how a UK woman got her credit card stolen and instead of using it to buy frivolous goodies, the Obamabot thugs donated $200 to the Obama campaign. Hmmm -interesting - I wonder if the Republicans will pursue this and if that money turns out to come from Islamic terrorists? Obama’s toast!

Not only that, but it was because of that primary challenge and the subsequent loss by Kennedy that the concept of the Super Delegates was established. And ironies of ironies I believe that it was Harold Ickys that thought of it.

They didn’t because he had no way of winning. Carter had the nomination locked up. Obama, on the other hand, has nothing locked up. He has more pledged delegates than Clinton, and at this instant he has enough superdelegates to push himself over the top.

But the supers can be fickle, can change their mind at any time, and don’t vote until the convention in Denver. The reason they want her to get out isn’t because Obama has won, but because he hasn’t won yet.

That’s because Carter was as hated as Clinton by the “latte” crowd.

And Teddy had a MASSIVE coke habit back then, too–and a lot of people knew about it. He and Joan weren’t even living together at that stage. The whole “family unity” thing was bullshit.

What a foolish statement. You have no idea who is going to be in Obama’s cabinet, who his advisors are or what his plans are. Obama will get us out of Iraq. McCain wants more wars and wants to stay in Iraq.

My kid is going to Iraq in the fall. Are you so full of rage that Hillary lost that our soldiers mean nothing to you? Are you so full of hate that you refuse to read, get informed and look at facts with valid sourcing? Do you spend time looking at the candidates plans? If you did you would know that Obama has an excellent plans to fix the mess we have been living in and under for the past 7 ½ years.

How do you square comments like you just posted above in your heart and soul?

I really want to know.

Hillary Clinton would be ashamed of the lot of you.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-06-06 19:01:06

Gee, aren’t you a BAD mother. Your kid is going to Iraq, because you didn’t tell him not to sign on the dotted line.

Too busy stumping for the General Dynamics candidate to talk sense to your child, apparently.

He wasn’t drafted, now, was he?

I really want to know how you can blame OTHERS for your pisspoor parenting. That’s the question here. Apparently, your kid wanted to join, and you were unable to convince him–and yet, you are yelling at OTHERS, strangers, trying to convince them, when you should have been busy at home, convincing your OWN KID?

Get over yourself, Maddie Dearest. If bullshit were electricity, you’d be a powerhouse. If you’d spent more time talking to your kid instead of strangers on the internet, maybe the child wouldn’t feel a need to join the military (which nowadays MEANS going to Iraq, in case you didn’t realize it–it’s not an accident, if you join, you GO).

Your kid will do a full tour, and a retour, in Iraq, and maybe enjoy some fun in the Stan, too, under Obama–because he OWES General Dynamics.

Fool. Have another shot of that Kool Aid.

The majority of the issues are accomplished in the Congress NOT by the President. If the Democrats really want to end the war in Iraq, they can Stop the Funding if McCain is President.

I’m voting for McCain. He is a man of Character, honor and experience. I think its extremely Important to take a stand against the shameless Sexism that was throughout this primary. If we don’t, it will happen again when the next Female runs. This is the year to do it.

Jesus Christ. Not this shit again.

If you want some facts about war, try this:

FDR (DEMOCRAT) led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost … an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman (DEMOCRAT) finished that war and started one in Korea . North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost … an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy (DEMOCRAT) started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson (DEMOCRAT) turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost … an average of 5,800 per year.

War sucks.

But don’t act like voting for Obama is going to save the world. It won’t. And don’t act like voting for a Democrat just because he is a Democrat will guarantee world peace. Because it won’t.

I only trust Hillary to get us out of this mess. Only Hillary.

Comment by John Smart | 2008-06-06 21:57:24

Of all the stupid things Obama cultists repeat - the war dead argument is the most disgusting.
1. Obama will NOT end the war in the first 3 years. He can’t. He is so inexperienced he probably can’t end it in a presidential term. Should he pull out overnight (which the military will not allow him to do) chaos will ensue. Even Obama knows this. His idiotic fans don’t care to hear this - so he doesn’t say it - much. The Obama pods continue the delusion that at this point all BHO has to do is say the word and we exit Iraq. It is ridiculous on its face.
2. Using war dead to make an argument that implies that anti-Obama people don’t care about the men and women who have died in Iraq is both classic Obama viciousness and revolting.
I care deeply about those who have given their lives in a war I was against. I will never vote for Obama. He’s a buffoon, sent by clowns, to collect some cash rewards. I won’t like all President McCain’s policies - but I will know they are competent.
After 4 years of Obama the GOP will be in charge for a generation. The only sane choice a progressive can make is to defeat Obama and then drum the numbskulls like Obama and Dean out of the party. Forever. and for good.

I’m planning a trip to Burr Oak,the Cemtary blacks from the Chicago area are buried. Until the 80’s most cemtaries were not intergrated. I going to talk to my mother and tell her, I will not vote for the democratic nominee. My mother who made us hang door stickers for Ralph Metcalf and Claude Davis before we were in school. My mother who mourned JFK until the day she died will hopefully understand that I’m not going to vote for Bama.
This is not emotion, this is pissed off! I got two pieces of mail yesterday, one from Sen Durbin who I always supported and one from John Edwards. I put them back in my mail box to return to sender and to kiss my big black ass.
If McCain stops making stupid statements like he did today (supporting wire tapping), I could easily donate to him. Howard Dean, Jesse Jackso, Jr. and the whole gang of thieves can go to hell. America voted for personality 8 years ago and I hope they do not make the same mistake twice.

Comment by claribel borden | 2008-06-06 18:04:56

McCain will say he supports wire tapping, and do it, Obama doesn’t know what to say, but will say what his lobbyists tell him to say, and he’ll wire tap, too, not giving one iota of thought to the consequences, or even capable of understanding the consequences.

Wire tapping is stupid, without a CLEAR reason, such as a CLEAR criminal act. Otherwise it is a violation of the 4th amendment.

Neither man has a CLUE to the relevance of the Constitution, which, pretty much is the key. But it sits out there, to them, an unsolvable mathematical mystery, far behind their comprehension. And if they can’t see it, it doesn’t exist. They dont need no fucking constitution, they have money.

Hence the breathtaking success America has been over the last 8 years, and even the republicans know something is wrong, but they can’t quite figure it out. But they decide to stay with stupid.

Even though they might be trolled.

This group is so DUMB, they dont get it.

As of today - I am an official McCain contributor/supporter and I feel great! In fact, I JUST got back from the post office after sending my three “IT’S OVER” packages to Dean, Pelosi and Brazile.

After getting my registration from the election office, I made copies of the card and my mccain receipt. Then I want to Party Warehouse where I bought in invite with a pic of a baseball that had the word “party” on it. I took some of sticky letter cutouts and made it ‘the party’s over.” On the back the invite listed the following with my answers:

The Party’s Over
For: Barack Hussein Obama
When: November 4 2008 Time: Midnight
Where: Polling Stations Nationwide
Hosted by: DEMS FOR MCCAIN
RSVP: CONFIRMED!
——–
Also found fake large size $100 dollar bills - and wrote on the front with magic marker - NOBAMA, “Party Unity My Ass!” and “AMERICA FIRST, DEMS SECOND, OBAMATONS NEVER!

On the back I wrote I’ve contributed $222 to HRC, but now my money goes to McCain. The DNC has exhibited an abysmal lack of leadership and fairness. Your actions have been delorable. I will NEVER forget.

then I wrote…

P.S. this is the only money the DNC will every get from me!
—-
I also found napkins with a photo of a woman with the following caption. “Do I look like I give a rat’s ass?” Then I glued black letter shaped candles which said…”IT’S OVER”

I mailed all those items, along with my torn up registration card which had a few choice words written on them and my receipt to McCain, to the Dean, Brazile and Pelosi’s San Francisco office.

guess what - I FEEL GREAT!

Comment by beebop | 2008-06-06 16:40:48

Thanks for the link, my man. I forgot how many times he voted not only against what the party was advocating, but also against things that Americans will question.

Flag desecration … I can just see that picture of Ayers standing on the flag when that woman with the soothing voice asks what is wrong with the American flag … can’t you?

Voted to make it more difficult to declare bankruptcy. That is something I guess reserved for big companies now, right? Let’s see that one in an ad …

But back to your concerns … maybe you missed his floor speech taking the wind out of the Alito fillibuster sails? Or the fact that he was perhaps one of the first five people to shake Roberts’ hand? He’s a “politician.” That’s the only place where REVEREND WRIGHT and I agree.

Comment by mystic4hill | 2008-06-06 18:50:27

Ultimately, Obama did vote against the nominations of Roberts and Alito. However, it’s important to note a couple things:

1) He only voted against Roberts because his Chief of Staff told him a vote for Roberts could hurt a future presidential run. “There is absolutely no doubt in my mind Judge Roberts is qualified to sit on the highest court in the land,” Obama said. Talking with his aides, the Illinois Democrat expressed admiration for Roberts’s intellect. Besides, Obama said, if he were president he wouldn’t want his judicial nominees opposed simply on ideological grounds.

2) While he voted against Alito’s confirmation, he also voted against a filibuster, in essence assuring Alito’s appointment, and condemning those Senators (Hillary included) who supported the filibuster.

It’s important to look at the WHOLE picture. Barack Obama is a complete unknown as to what he would do once in the White House, as this is a man with no major accomplishments during his brief and uninspiring political career, and no experience to draw upon.

That’s not a risk I want to take during these difficult times.

They entrance the little children but they still can’t pull it off. What they DO achieve is they give us Republican presidents. They gave us Nixon. Twice. They gave us GHW Bush. And they will give us John McCain. Because adults don’t let children, radicals and old hippies who never gave up the bong pick presidents.

Communism is nothing more than state monopolized capitalism you ignoramus!

Go checkout Hugo Chavez and his Gucci loafer wearing-Hummer driving thug cabinet spewing the virtues of socialism while his countrymen starve and they enjoy luxuries.

I’m sure Marx would have been very interested in your theory. You might want to do some research on comparative economics because you have no idea what you’re talking about.

No if he’s 19, he’s a convention delegate. Just like the McGovern people. By the time November rolls around, people will be tripping over themselves to send Obama into the tank, just from watching his ’supporters’.

Comment by catherine | 2008-06-06 18:04:56

So true! McGovern had his crazy young supporters to thank for getting so many Dems to help re-elect Nixon. LOL

If the party insists on stealing the nomination from Hillary in August we will be witnessing history repeat itself in November…except McCain is a lot more likeable and moderate than Nixon.

Thanks why I thank the Obamabots– on an hourly or daily basis they remind me why I will NOT EVER vote for Obama.

His advisers are the low life scum of the earth as well.

Says the donut whose idiot candidate just STOLE an election, in large part because of an obsequious press, and the revolting snail slime, Howard Dean, in conjunction with dirty money.

LOL

Someone take his bar exam for him, too?

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-06-06 18:35:36

That’s been my thought about Obama passing the bar exam — he is just too damned stupid to pass the bar exam on his own.

His buddy Ayers would know how to find a ringer to take the bar exam for Obama.

Plus Obama either didn’t leave a paper trail or he destroyed everything.

Comment by SAIEW | 2008-06-06 22:47:23

Now he’s too dumb to pass the bar. Well since I’ve taken a bar exam, I can assure you that it would require the ability to fake fingerprints. So I doubt it very much.

We will kiss this COUNTRY goodbye if a unamerican traitor is elected (obama the idiot).

Comment by s. hall | 2008-06-06 21:49:46

Myshida — Obama believes we have too many elections. It confuses people so he wants less elections said his former Foreign Policy advisor Amanda Power The problem is the House and Senate I guess we will have to deal with them, she says.

Tell me when the Democrats gave a crap about the Constitution when they usurped their will for the voters of MI and the Disenfranchisement of MI & FL and 18 million voters? Give it up kid the dems are worse than what the repubs did in 2000 and it must not stand if we want our country back. unlike you or the other obamabots McCain has proven he would die for this country so I am sure he will gaurd the Constitution with the same commitment.

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2008-06-06 18:48:58

BO DID NOT uphold the constitution while in Chicago and the US Senate. What on earth makes you think anything will be different.

Once BO gets an intel brief two things will happen.

1) he will age 3 years in flash
2) what ever lies he said to get elected won’t mean shit. Clueless.

McCain can get my vote by assuring that he won’t screw Roe vs Wade, will push a healthcare plan up to the level of HRC’s, and most important, will take an Al Gore approved stand on environmental issues, including protecting wildlife.
I have my doubts that McCain would do enough to get my vote, but Obama has done enough to NOT get my vote. Ever.

Comment by SAIEW | 2008-06-06 16:08:43

McCain? Health Care? Al Gore like stand? Bwaaaahahahahahah!

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-06-06 16:16:36

Considering that Obama’s “plan” is logistically useless and shows (yet again!) a lack of clear understand of how States operate with regard to health care, I will add to that “Bwaahahahaha”.

At least McCain will give me a 5k write off. Obama is going to give me shit. Oh yea, that’s right, he’s going to “reduce the cost of health insurance by $2500″. That should help families who can’t afford Single Pay HMOs in my state, considering it’s roughly 2K a MONTH for a family. Once again, Barky is too comfortable. He gets his health plan free from me. Therefore he hasn’t got a clue that a family that can’t afford 24k a year for health insurance, also can’t afford 21.5k.

The man’s plan is useless.
