An Update on the Michelle Obama Rant

The recording that shows Michelle Obama saying disparaging things about white folks is for real. It is not part of some elaborate dirty trick. The people who have seen her comments describe it as “stunning” or “devastating.” I have not spoken directly with the people who have seen the tape, but I have spoken to two of my friends who are friends with those who watched the tape/dvd.

Are they playing me? No, but it is a valid question to ask. Two of my sources, who have recounted the reactions of their friends who have seen the Michelle “performance,” live on opposite sides of the United States geographically and politically. They do not know each other and had no way of knowing that each of them was talking to me. This is one reason I believe the report of the “tape” is true.

I also have learned that Obama campaign knew about this “tape” at least two weeks prior to my first blog item on the matter. And they are not laughing it off as a joke. (Note to Barack: There are leaks in your campaign.) Ben Smith’s report on the matter only tells part of the story.
The woman from McClatchy who dared ask the question was verbally assaulted by Obama aides. She was treated as if she had made a death threat.

Then there is the matter of the email/disinformation campaign the Obama folks are trying. First they sent some of their bloggers an email claiming that Michelle said “WHY DID HE” rather than use the pejorative, “WHITEY.” And now the excuse is being circulated that somehow I, or someone else, is cribbing from some silly book I have never heard of until now. A campaign does not react this way to a fabrication.

I apologize for any confusion generated from our effort to get on top of this. We made the mistake of putting up the claims from Hillbuzz, but have no way of verifying Hillbuzz’s claim that it is a recording that features Michelle Obama with the wife of Louis Farrakhan. That is not what the sources who have seen the “tape” have reported to me.

The sources who have seen the tape report that Michelle says disparaging things about “whites” and that Louis Farrakhan is visible. There is no identifying information on the segment they have seen to identify the location or time when this was recorded.

Why does this “tape” of Michelle Obama matter? The folks who have it are working to elect John McCain. They are using it now to raise money for a 527 effort that will attack Barack Obama. I am told that they fully intend to keep this “off-the-market” until after the Democratic Convention. The Republicans involved with this believe that Barack Obama is a more beatable candidate than Hillary Clinton and see the tape as reinforcing an image of racial division that will hurt Obama.

I support Hillary Clinton for President. I believe she will be a stronger candidate. And if I had the tape I would put it out in a heartbeat. Getting the tape out now does one of two things–either it persuades Super Delegates that Barack is not electable or it gives the Obama campaign time to repair the damage.

I now appreciate somewhat how Cofer Black, the head of the CIA’s Counter Terrorism Center, must have felt as he tried to warn Condaleeza Rice and the Bush White House about a brewing terrorist attack in the days leading up to September 11th. And please, I am not equating the Michelle tape with the attacks of 9-11. Rather I am focused on the point of what happens when someone has incomplete information, which warns about a future event, and tries to raise the alert. Just because Cofer Black could not say in late July 2001 that the coming attack would be carried out by 19 hijackers on four commercial airliners did not mean his intelligence was wrong.

Those who want to vilify me for having the audacity to raise this warning can have at it. I ran up against similar attacks and skeptics in May of 2003 when I warned that the Bush Administration had cooked the intelligence on Iraq. It is only now that we get a Senate Intelligence Committee Report and a book from Scott McClellan confirming what I said five years ago.

I caught more heat in October of 2003 when I defended Valerie Plame as an undercover CIA officer. Again, we had to wait until the trial of Scooter Libby to learn that the claims she was just a glorified secretary were lies. And once again Scott McClellan, Bush’s former Press Secretary, confirms that he was lied to as well about Valerie’s status and who was involved in spreading her name around town.

My efforts on those two issues earned me the enmity of many on the political right. On at least two separate occasions the Wall Street Journal editorial page attacked me by name and accused me of being part of a CIA effort to sabotage the policies of President Bush. Those charges were repeated and amplified in a subsequent book by Kenneth Timmerman,

    Shadow Warriors

.

Now it is some on the left who are attacking me and behaving in the same manner as those who rejected my reports on Iraq and Valerie Plame. Now I am a Republican tool. Here’s a small, but representative sample of the “love” letters coming my way:

On May 26, you wrote in your blog: “I know for a fact that Barack and Michelle Obama would like the tape of her blasting “whitey” during a rant at Jeremiah Wright’s church to never see the light of day.”

Really? If that’s the case, where’s the video? You and I know that if such a video exists it would have appeared on YouTube by now. But the truth seems to be there’s no such tape not because it hasn’t appeared on the web but because you can’t even keep your story straight. If you knew anything for a fact, your story would at least be consistent. I especially love how your sources are “all Republicans with access to knowledge but who do not know each other.” How convenient. But you and I also know that most insiders with access tend to know, or know of, each other. I suspect you made this up to cover your ass: since you name no names and you say the Republican insiders don’t know each other, there’s no way for anyone to disprove you. How clever. I’m also amazed at the bold face lie you tell your readers: that Michelle Obama was at Trinity Church when she made the speech, only to recant later and admit that you “do not know where this [the alleged panel discussion] occurred.”

Please stop using your blog to spread lies and rumors. It is not making this country any better.

Alejandro Queral

Now for the shocker. If the election comes down to a choice between John McCain and Barack Obama I will vote for Bob Barr. I live in Maryland and my state is very likely to vote overwhelmingly for Barack. I continue to believe that Barack is not qualified by experience or temperament to be President. I will be happy to be proved wrong on that count. But, if elected, he is likely to revive memories of the failed Presidency of Jimmy Carter. How apropos that Jimmy endorsed Barack.

And I cannot support John McCain, who is staffing his national security team with many of the bozos who were instrumental in bringing us the debacle in Iraq. Of particular concern is Randy Scheunemann. A confidant of Douglas Feith, Scheunemann represents a continuation of the disastrous Bush policies in the Middle East. I’ll devote more time later to these issues.

Let me conclude with this–I think there is at least one tape/recording that will be released sometime after the August convention and is likely to be very damaging to the Barack Obama presidential campaign. While I hope that Super Delegates wake up and realize that Hillary is their best shot for victory in the fall, I realize I am swimming upstream. So word to Barrack and team–the tape is coming at some point and you folks better be ready to deal with it because, unlike the situations with Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger, you cannot divorce your wife in the middle of a campaign.

Larry, I’m interested in your thoughts on Hillary’s speech today. As the proprietor of this site, are you in line with what HRC said about supporting Obama? Or is NoQuarter a Republican site now?

Comment by SFHillary | 2008-06-07 14:15:59

Larry, quick question: what did you think of Hillary’s speech today? Are you going to support her very passionate and sincere plea for her supporters to support Obama and the Democratic Party? Or is NoQuarter now officially a Republican site?

In 48hrs the pdf of your statutory rape charges in costa rica will be made public.

Your treasonous liaison with what you thought was a prostitute will be ‘leaked’ to your staunchest critics on monday.

You are already loathed by more people than ever liked you.

Not a very good place to be for someone with as many skeletons as you.

We also know who you ratted out to avoid prison.

Obama was supposed to come to New Orleans today to speak to the National Conference of Black Mayors. He would’ve been able to discuss all those issues he blamed Hillary for not focusing on.

Instead, he canceled days ago because he had ‘family commitments’.

Now we see that those commitments included the important task of playing golf.

This is the second time this year he’s canceled events speaking to black groups in New Orleans - the first being Tavis Smiley’s State Of The Black Union.

Sounds like Mr Issues doesn’t really want to discuss anything and no longer needs to pander to a certain group anymore.

Anyone shocked?

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-06-08 02:38:48

Not me.

He hasn’t even been elected - and already he’s breaking campaign promises.

Doesn’t one normally wait to be elected President before they arrogantly begin breaking campaign promises?

Comment by tzada | 2008-06-08 08:14:03

No I am not shocked. Why is everyone missing the point herResearch has show that Barack Hussein Obama is most probably NOT an African American but a Arab American. His father was classified as Arab African. He has three Arabic names. The Arabs call him “the Face” He has Arab support. He already has black people conned. He doesn’t need them because he already has them hooked. Now he needs to try and appeal to white men, thus the golf. We have seen bowling, basketball. He is a regular, empty suit. Trying to be what will further his agenda to implement his regime.
How any black who has studied the roots of slavery, could vote for Obama is mind boggling.
THE TAPE and Larry have been the subject of at least 2 op ed’s at the AOL PM. They are so in love with Obama that their eyes are brown.

Here’s a link for Obama not appearing–since the primary is over he feels he doesn’t have to (and Clinton would not be threre as well). But, there is a pattern here….

http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2008/06/obama_not_addressing_black_may.html

I keep hoping he’ll decide he needs to spend lots more time with his family, and turn the nomination over to Sen. Clinton.

Hey, a voter can hope, right?

Comment by Just Curious | 2008-06-08 20:17:23

Why is there even a National Conference of Black Mayors? Blacks are always wanting things to be equal.

I find it so funny that there can be Black Awards, Colleges, etc., but if Whites did that, the blacks would be filing racial law sues.

“Charges” characterized as a “treasonous liaison” whatever that means, followed by an accusation he “ratted out” someone “to avoid prison.”

Charges do not equal guilt. The ratting out part would be hard to prove and “We also know” is not proof.

I don’t see any PDF file either. All I see is hot air.

You remind me of “tootsky” who claimed the Southern Poverty Law Center was going after Larry for the alleged racism on this blog. That was a couple of weeks ago and I see no sign of any legal action.

Comment by tootsky | 2008-06-07 16:20:14

I never said they were going “after” this blog….I said that prompted by language used by commenters - and some bloggers - here, there would be a file created and if need be, a report made . I do know that they are producing a report on racism in the presidential primaries, particularly among HRC surrogates.

Shameful they won’t address one of the other causes of Poverty that was rampant in this campaign, and in not doing so they clearly show that it is a more ubiquitous problem. The sexism across this blog by those who hate, not just dislike or disagree with, but hate Hillary Clinton were stewed in a vat of mysogynistic hatred that either they don’t realize is sexism, or simply dismiss it out of confusion with their other hatred.

I didn’t hate Obama when I asked questions early on. I said, ‘wow that would be something worth finding out about’. Then I watched the koolaid drinkers go off and refuse to let you ask the question as if you where questioning the existence of Auschwitz!

I don’t care what report is rendered about “HRC surrogates” because it will be bogus anyway. The more dominiant ISM of this campaign was SEXISM pure and simple.

There were things said about both Clinton and women all along that demonstrated it, and it wasn’t simply by Obama surrogates, as a report might want to examine, but Sweetie, Obama himself engaged in it several times because he has that patronizing sexism in much of what he says about Clinton’s acheivements and merits, sweetie.

Now, I don’t believe Obama is much different than most men who are still struggling to understand what the ‘equal rights’ for women must look like. It is not unlike watching white folks figure out what reparations really means, and it doesn’t mean cut a check.

To Conclude: Reparations in two communities are due in our time, but what does the word mean? Reparations: The Action of Repairing.

Because to some shallow minded people it simply means getting and giving a check. Wrong, because giving a check, as shown by the Welfare system, didn’t mean shit!
Did it mean give an advancement to those who were told to be at the back of the line?
Partially, but it also allowed exploitation of guilt to let people forward who in a non-racial or sexist society hadn’t shown the skills or accumen to handle task.

With Sexism, Racism, and Classism, still operating the subconcious behavior of the United States, these conflicts will continue on. It is a good thing that Racism is very exposed, and I hope we can see the same for Sexism soon because it is older and more deeply seeded. Remember, black folks got the right to vote before women. And then white women were allowed vote before black women. If you give a shit about either, then give a shit about both.

I’m not here to be lectured by the Obama supporters and I’m not a member of a party. I already know what I want to learn about Clinton because I’ve paid attention to them for a long time. I will continue to ask about Obama, and should something appear that others might want to see, I will post it, broadcast it wide and let you guys figure it out.

Larry Johnson has done you a service here by vetting what the handlers wouldn’t. You love him when it suits you and blame him for your shortcomings when your expectations aren’t met. I’m glad many of you were never intelligence experts.

But by mid-1985, Spadafora was furious with the drug corruption. He contacted the DEA’s chief officer in Costa Rica, Robert Nieves, to complain about contra drug trafficking. Nieves considered Spadafora’s information too vague to pursue, but Spadafora declared that he still intended to denounce Noriega and the contras.

On Sept. 13, 1985, Spadafora boarded a bus for Panama City and, that afternoon, crossed into Panama. But at a check point, soldiers stopped the bus and dragged Spadafora off. His beheaded body was found a day later stuffed into a U.S. mail bag on the bank of a river on the Costa Rican side of the border.

The Spadafora murder touched off new suspicions about cocaine trafficking by the contras, their backers in Costa Rica and Noriega’s Panamanian Defense Forces. On Dec. 20, 1985, for The Associated Press, Brian Barger and I wrote the first news story citing the growing evidence that contra units operating in northern Costa Rica had engaged in drug trafficking.

Eventually, Costa Rican authorities would agree, accusing pro-contra Cuban exiles and other Americans of using Costa Rica as a drug transshipment point. As part of these findings, Costa Rica barred the CIA’s Joe Fernandez and North from the Central American nation.

(Fernandez and North have denied any role in drug trafficking, but failed to return phone calls seeking comments for this article. Now retired from the DEA, Nieves works with North and Fernandez at Guardian Technologies, a bullet-proof vest company in Sterling, Virginia. Nieves said he did not recall the name John Molina.)

I wouldn’t worry to much about the wrath of the O’Bots.

If we’ve learned anything from this debacle, it is that Team Obama is mainly the same class of blowhard keyboard warriors that spent the last seven years crowing about the glorious exploits of their war hero George Dubya.

At this stage, I will also be writing in Hillary for president.

And after carefully reading more about this Michelle Obama situation, it is starting to sound to me like there may be at least 2 tapes, one perhaps in 2004 and another later, with the second referencing Katrina (which occurred in 2005).

The Republican op machine was able to change John Kerry from a war hero to a war coward, and Max Cleland into a traitor, when he left 3 limbs on the battlefield.

This one is going to be ridiculously easy for them, I’m afraid.

Yes — with information as important as this I read every single word — and then reread it.

Larry has been consistent from the beginning.

However, I for one do not need to see the tape to know that Mrs. Obama is fully capable of unloading a racist rant.

It is time that everyone realize that this sort of hatred against a whole group of people is dangerous. As the wife of a President she could be put in a position of power and she could do a lot of harm.

The skin heads — white separatist can be found in the Northwest. They are also dangerous — they share some of the same attitudes as the black separatists.

The GOP has so much material to use against snObama — they might be having a hard time deciding what order to release their shockers.

Whatever — the Democrat Party is DEAD — gone.

Comment by Judith | 2008-06-07 17:01:04

However, I for one do not need to see the tape to know that Mrs. Obama is fully capable of unloading a racist rant.

I agree. You need only to read her Princeton Thesis and think about where she took her children to Church to know that it’s very possible.

Comment by Mahatma X | 2008-06-07 22:35:41

Ah yes, the “controversial” senior thesis:

Much scrutiny and discussion has been focused on a single phrase contained within the thesis, the statement that “blacks must join in solidarity to combat a white oppressor.” This phrase has repeatedly been quoted out of context and presented as if it reflected Michelle Obama’s own philosophy, but in its full context it is clearly her speculation about what she thought some of the respondents she surveyed for her thesis (i.e., students who had attended Princeton in earlier years) might have been feeling:

As discussed earlier, most respondents were attending Princeton during the 70’s, at a time when the Black Power Movement was still influencing the attitudes of many Blacks.

It is possible that Black individuals either chose to or felt pressure to come together with other Blacks on campus because of the belief that Blacks must join in solidarity to combat a White oppressor. As the few blacks in a white environment it is understandable that respondents might have felt a need to look out for one another.

we should have a better choice than mccain or bo. but we don’t. all the other names simply won’t win.

and if it’s between mccain and bo, it HAS to be mccain.

jmho.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-06-07 14:26:15

Comment by so saddened | 2008-06-07 14:31:52

i do understand and have no quarrel with those who just can’t vote mccain. (do have a HUGE quarrel with those who vote bo!)

re third party vote - it does take away a vote that bo was counting on. but it doesn’t add to the number of votes that bo has to get. the only way to do that is vote for mccain.

example - if there are 10 voters and 4 vote bo and 3 vote mccain and 2 stay home and 1 writes in hillary, bo wins. if the 3 who stayed home or wrote in hillary would rather have mccain than bo, and they vote for mccain, mccain has 6 votes and bo has 4 and mccain wins.

i think bo is counting on those of us who don’t want him staying home or voting third party. he’s counting on just that kind of math getting him elected.

again, jmho, and i respect your opinion.

Thanks for the clarification. All I know for sure come Nov. I will note for him. I really think that smarmy SOB can win w/o Hillary folks. His arrogance is so astounding. This is why I have permanently left the party. Cannot support DNC at all.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-06-07 14:41:13

whoops, THINKS HE CAN W/O US.

Comment by David Axisrutt | 2008-06-07 15:23:16

Yeah we got it! ;)

What these Obamatrons and Axelrod orcs don’t get is that liking Hill and being totally disgusted with Barry are two separate unrelated things. They think it’s a baseball game and you root for one team or the other. They’re so stupid. ;)

Comment by mr. natural | 2008-06-07 15:59:59

They also think we’re nothing but a marketing problem.

They plan to assault us with “message.”

Comment by claribel borden | 2008-06-07 16:41:09

And from this, they will create their own intelligence unit, just like Cheney.

IMO, it depends on the state where you live. I live in a big blue state that should go Democratic. However, I’m of the mind that McCain just might be competitive here, so I will pay attention to the polls and the word on the street.

If McCain is at all competitive here, I will vote for him. No, I don’t like him, but I think the war is going to resolve if for no other reason than $$$$ and the economy. McCain knows this. He can’t say that out loud because he’s on shaky ground with his Party as it is, but I really think if he becomes President, he will sell the idea that for reasons of the Economy we have to move in a different direction. And certainly, the signs are already showing that the Economy is drifting in this direction.

Again, everyone must follow their conscience. I’m not going to do what Obama and his campaign have done, try to take away anyone’s right to choose. My situation at the moment is simple. Obama should be able to win my state without me. But if he can’t, then that only affirms what we already know, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE NOMINEE. And I will vote McCain just to drive that point home.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-06-07 15:22:32

Mimi, I like your point, he should try to win a state w/o us, exactly. I live in AZ, I am assuming will go McCain, we voted Hill in the primary. I don’t want to take away anyone’s vote either. We each have to do what is good for us. If the rumors are true, that BO said he is not going to try to woo us then let him go it alone; on his own bone fides (or lack thereof). Lets see where the chips fall…

On thing’s for sure: the SDs who are supposed to prevent a McGovern disaster - it ain’t working. They get bullied and that destroys the whole thing. Hill? You go to Denver. You take the nomination from this bastard. You start planning to move into 1600. We love you.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-06-07 15:29:10

I totally agree, go to Denver, I fear though that she is not. Her speech today was incredible, it made me sad for what could be…don’t look back she says, look forward; I sure am!

Comment by TR | 2008-06-07 17:01:00

I must say honestly that I was not a Hillary supporer prior to the primary process. I thought Bill was a great president, however, and thought that his presence would be the key.

But what Hillary showed me in terms of, knowledge, command of the facts, fight, determination, and in the end, a hugely winning campaign style won me over like no candidate in my memory.

And as a man, I couldn’t be more proud of a presidential candidate. I can only imagine how women feel, at this stage.

Comment by Cath | 2008-06-07 17:45:04

I was not for Hillary at the stat, being an Edwards supporter. But she convinced me that she would most likely be an excellent president.

Obama hasn’t shown me a damned thing about whether he can lead our country. A few pretty speeches and a slick campaign just don’t make it.

Oh, and just for the record, Hillary’s speeches are better.

I’m awful proud today, too. As a woman, it’s pretty intense. LOL*

She sure brought the feelings right up to the surface.

I live in a purple state, Wisconsin, and will hold my nose and vote for McCain. I will hate it and it will make me sick to my stomach to do it but I believe that allowing the Obamacrats to continue their takeover of the Democratic Party is far more dangerous than McCain.

If McCain wins, then it’s up to the spineless Democrats to rein him in. If they don’t or won’t then they are useless anyway. Like they’ve been since 2006.

No kidding.

BTW, Al Franken is running for the senate in your neighboring state, Minnesota. I think he’d be a good senator. Anyway, I’ve donated to his campaign. He needs money.

Al ran a good radio Air America show. He shut up and let his guests and experts talk. That’s more than 99% of the airheads hosting the airwaves are able to do.

And that’s why I think he’d be a good senator.

Sorry about the rant.

Comment by TR | 2008-06-07 17:08:40

Marge, you make some excellent points.

I am totally disappointed in the rest of the democratic party at this stage. They have caved in to a weak president consistently since taking over in 2006.

And now they have caved in again.

Seriously, what we need in this country is a 3rd, 4th, and 5th party; Nader has always been right on this point, that is, that we must break the chains of hold that two parties have on us.

vote for a 3rd party that takes votes away from Obama. That would be the green party, independent, or republican candidate McCain.

A vote for Barr helps McCain. A vote for Nader helps Obama. A vote for the green party takes votes away from Obama.

I live in red state that will never go Obama, and that does not recognize the green party. I guess I might be lucky here, I don’t have to vote for McCain. But swing state voters–chose the party that will take votes away from Obama, make sure “anybody but Obama” wins.

Comment by Nicole | 2008-06-07 15:30:56

Okay, I’m confused. How is a vote for the Independent Party helps Obama? Because i am one of the 18 million. I’m not voting for Obama. I was planning on voting Independent.

I think voting Independent hurts OBama, actually. sorry for the mixup.

Comment by Margaret | 2008-06-07 15:45:10

I’m in Massachusetts which has never been a swing state, always reliably democratic, but polls have shown Obama losing here against McCain. Agreed, anyone but Obama. I will vote McCain. Got on his mailing list today, looking forward to seeing his dirt on Obama. And made a small donation for symbolic purposes. My significant donations will still go to Hillary.

Right you are. A vote for McCain is like voting against BO twice. Makes up for the MI/FL half votes.

Comment by jim aaron | 2008-06-07 15:27:11

It’s called the lesser of two evils, you have two choices, Barr or write-ins are just a wasted vote. At least McCain doesn’t hate AMERICA.

The non-denial denial from Obama’s own mouth is enough to raise high the red flag in my view.

Non-denial denials are made for a reason.

I believe Obama’s most fanatical supporters will just deny it or attack the messenger. It won’t bother them.

His more intelligent, conscientious supporters who care about this country are in for some major “buyer’s remorse.”

Too bad most of this stuff about the Obamas did
