Big Trouble in Obamaland

Now that the glamor and glitz of Obama’s illegitimate grab of the Democratic nomination has worn off, it is time for a little sanity to set in. Namely, how is it that Obama is going to carry those states where as he admitted himself, he believes the people there are bitter and clinging to their guns and religion? The answer will come as no surprise to anyone rational. He is going to have a tough time winning states like Pennsylvania and Ohio. There is no doubt about that.

Racial attitudes pose challenge for Obama

“I don’t think our country is ready for a black president,” Susick, who is white, said in an interview in the paint store where she works. “A black man is never going to win Pennsylvania.”

Now if we were in campaign mode you would see Axelrod, Plouffe or Jackson point out that the person making the comment was just a racist and therefore could be dismissed. But thankfully we aren’t in campaign mode and people like Susick are allowed to speak their mind without being labeled as something they are not.

More troubling is the statistic that won’t go away. No matter how much money and bullshit the Obama people try to throw at it.

In the April 22 primary, Susick voted for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who carried Pennsylvania by 10 percentage points. Perhaps more troubling for Obama, one in four Clinton’s backers told exit pollsters they would vote for McCain if Obama were the nominee; an additional 17 percent said they would not vote at all.

Look at this closely. 25% of Hillary supporters said they would vote for McCain and another 17% said they wouldn’t vote at all. That is a whopping 42% of Hillary supporters that WILL NOT support Obama. You might call that a significant statistic.

More worrisome are longtime Democrats who backed Clinton in April but are threatening to abandon the party now that she is not the nominee.

Rose Iezzi, who lunched recently with two friends at a Greensburg cafe, is one. All three women are middle-aged, work for an accountant and admire Clinton. But only Iezzi took a hard stand against Obama.

“I think he’s a snake oil salesman,” she said. “He’s a little too slick and smooth.”

“He just doesn’t appeal to me, and not because of race, definitely,” she said in an interview in which race had not been mentioned.

In fact for all the attempts to call the people that will not support Obama racists, the facts tell another tale. A tale that doesn’t fit in to well with the lies the Obama camp would have you believe. Despite the exit poll claims we were spoon fed by the Obamedia, the truth tells us something else entirely.

In interviews with 40 Pennsylvanians across three counties that Clinton won by big margins, only one person indicated opposition to Obama simply because of his race.

Sounds a little less troubling than we were initially led to believe. Some estimates had the percentage as high as 20%. So much for the reliability of exit polls despite the DNC’s illegitimate reliance on them.

And if this was just Pennsylvania perhaps Obama and the DNC could write it off. As they have so many other things. But the problems in Pennsylvania apparently also resonate in Ohio where Obama not only lost to Hillary but is losing ground to McCain.

Clinton’s supporters still wary of Obama

Harper was impressed by Clinton’s empathy for the struggling middle class and said she would have voted for her this fall. But now that Barack Obama has sewn up the Democratic nomination, Harper isn’t sure whom to support.

Obama’s comments about “bitter” Pennsylvania voters turning to guns and God turned her off, and she’s concerned that Republican John McCain represents a continuation of the Bush administration that she doesn’t think the country can afford.

“Now, I’m kind of in limbo,” Harper, 53, said last week during an interview in Hanging Rock at the Ohio University Southern Child Development Center where she works.

So Bittergate still resonates in Ohio as I am sure it resonates elsewhere. People have not only not forgiven Obama for his comments, they have come to trust him even less recently.

Last week, The Dispatch retraced Clinton’s trip, and in interviews with nearly three dozen people in places she visited, it was clear that although Obama has fans in the region, he has work to do to win over voters such as Harper.

There is a disconnect that Ohio voters instinctively feel toward Obama. Hillary they got. She touched them, made them feel visible, important. Obama, not so much.

“It was like we meant something to her,” said Chuck Denney, 55, of Gallipolis, who works at a nearby power plant and was having lunch last week at the original Bob Evans restaurant in Rio Grande where Hillary Clinton stopped in February.

But the Obama campaign and their DNC enablers aren’t worrying about Ohio. They have a plan. They honestly think that getting popular governor Ted Strickland to campaign for Obama is all he needs. And Strickland seems to think so too.

The governor said Friday he will encourage Obama to spend time in Appalachia and focus on such “kitchen table issues” as jobs and health care.

“I think if he does that and does it effectively, with my help — and I will help — that the folks in the communities that you’ve just visited will give him an honest hearing,” Strickland said.

But Buckeyes have to ask the pertinent question. Why is it that Obama didn’t reach out to Appalachia before, when he was courting Ohio for the nomination? He instead referred to them as bitter white people that cling to guns and religion.

So, sorry Governor Strickland. As popular as you are and deservedly so, you aren’t going to hoodwink the good people of Ohio into believing Barack Obama suddenly respects hard-working blue collar white people. Because we already know that he does not. Except for when not respecting them gets in his way to power.

These latest revelations, coming just days after Obama’s presumptive coronation as the Democratic nominee, are mere warning shots. More will come, surely. I expect them to dribble out a little at a time. The question is: Will the people that have the authority to do something about it take action before it is too late?

And I can’t say with any sincerity that I am hopeful they will.

[…] What Facts? 12 06 2008 I find it humerous how some blogs keep saying that Obama is utterly unelectable in states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, even though Obama hasn’t trailed in Pennsylvania […]

Comment by BluDawg | 2008-06-12 07:40:07

I find it humerous how some post keep denying the fact that Hillary won all the primaries in these big swing states.

Further, Real Clear Politics have polls showing for example in Florida, that McCain leads by 8, in Michigan by 2, and in Virginia by 2.

Denial is the 1st sign of Kool-Aide addiction.

Comment by Kavar | 2008-06-12 07:57:28

Sorry, but is your argument here that, among other things (and I’m positive there’s better polls to show where Obama is losing) is that he’s within the margin of error in a state (Michigan) where he never really campaigned, and also within the margin of error in a traditionally red state (Virginia)? Kentucky would be a much better choice. If memory serves, it went to Bill Clinton in both ‘92 and ‘96, and Barack is trailing by something like 25 points there. 25. Being behind by 8 in Florida can be overcome, but he’s never gonna close that 25.

Comment by jrterrier | 2008-06-12 08:10:50

also, please remember that Obama has just finished spending $200 million campaigning and in a year when DEMs ought to be beating the REPs by landslides, Obama’s numbers are quite low.

In fact, I just read somewhere that Obama has outspent McCain 25 to 1 but don’t know if that is accurate.

Comment by standard | 2008-06-12 08:27:42

I supported Obama at first mainly because he
WAS a minority.

His mean spirited campaign style was
the turnoff. Then he proved himself a fraud and
a hypocrite.

He has no empathy for most people in the country
that he wants to lead. He doesn’t like us.

My argument is Electoral College.

BHO comes up short.

He loses too many swing states.

Penn, Ohio, Florida.

If McCain carries 2 of the 3, Obama will be the next John Kerry!

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-06-12 07:43:42

No to be HONEST (if you EVER were)

you would be MORE shocked to see anyone who would agree that BHO is at ALL electable

If you think most of the lemmings in America will vote for a hater like that? A Loser like that? He really is a sad excuse for Presidential material.

After you take off the shiny bold wrapper there’s nothing left but an ugly brown empty box with no substance and a LOT of warped perhaps unglued areas!

Or does it only mean you have to go back to school? ;)

But I guess you have to ask yourself an obvious question- will these attitudes be the same on election day? THere is likely to be a significant number whose will soften their positions and vote for Obama. The poll cant tell us how many will not change their positions under any circumstances and how many will reluctantly decide to vote for Obama in the end.

I’ll make the Obamabots a deal

I look forward to your response to the newest addition to BO’s website….

http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/notape

… and specifically these key passages:

Lie:On May 30th, Rush Limbaugh said he had heard a rumor that a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “Whitey” from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ.
Truth: No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word.

Lie:Blogger Larry Johnson wrote on May 31st that he would add “New and dramatic developments. This is a heads up. I’ll post the news Monday morning by 0900 hours. Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning. Barack’s headaches are only starting.”
Truth: Johnson posted no such update.

If the tape didn’t exist, he would have denied that Not-So-Charming-Michelle ever said such a thing when he was asked about it by a reporter last week. HE DIDN’T DENY IT. Now he has some shill typing on a web site that it’s not true? That wouldn’t be for some COVER, would it? Then he can deny he knew the shill ever said that when the tapes does show up….. We know how the empty suit operates.

Get lost.

Comment by TheViking | 2008-06-12 09:55:34

Yes, and if you read his bullshit responses. All he says is that she never said “Whitey” and this panel was at the Sheriton….hmmm.

Well, the term “Whitey” is what we used (ie. Larry) to DESCRIBE the tape… ie. The Whitey Tape.

So what did she REALLY say Obama? And where was she when she was saying it?

I can think of many many many vile words that can come out of her mouth, yet you only seem to say that she never really said the word “Whitey”.

WHITEY IS THE WORD WE COINED FOR THE TAPE DUMBASS!!!

He overlearned his lesson.

So yeah….you all are pretty reactive and dumb-sounding to me. You’re at the next stage.

What a meme!

How dumb is that?

You still sound incredibly immature to posit that. No respect for people who have differing opinions. Slap a label on them. Insult them. Call it a day.

That’s just immaturity talking.

You’ve obviously not worked in the real world where people have a variety of opinions.

You’ve not learned to open your mind and just relate a person. Dang the politics.

We each have one vote only. That’s it.

Just because I’m against Obama doesn’t mean that I like the fact the racism still persists. What’s going on here? Are we that desparate to defeat Obama that we are happy about negaitve racial attitudes? This is disturbing.

Is this a foreign policy preview?

The Governor of PA., Ed Rendell, said the same thing. He knows his state. He knows there are people who voting according to race. So do 90% of AFRICAN AMERICANS, but that’s OK? Why is it acceptable that 90% of AAs, in almost EVERY state, vote for BO because he’s black, but when people vote for a candidate because they’re white, THAT’S racist? I do-not-get-that-fucked-up-logic.

Let’s throw in the EXTREME racism preached by RACIST REV. WRIGHT AND FARRAKHAN in BO’s church where he sat for 20 FREAKIN’ YEARS…just for good measure. The entire WORLD now knows how AAs feel about white people and that’s acceptable? It’s not acceptable to me, but now I know how they feel. It’s something filed in my memory forever. I won’t forget any time soon. TRUST ME.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-12 08:53:45

I don’t buy it, anyway. These are people speaking for people. Look at what these people say about how I feel and think. They are way off base.

I do not believe it’s due to his race. I do believe it’s due to his culture, and by that I mean, the church he chose to attend, the friends he chose to have around him, and the elitist attitude.

He has scared many people. Now, small-minded idiots can label that racism, but I don’t. It is caution that says, “Wait, I am not on board with putting in a position of world power someone who calls a man clearly anti-semitic and anti-white his mentor.”

That’s a moderate-to-conservative Democratic position that is not racist but does reflect a lot of commonsense, in fact.

True democrats (notice the small ‘d’) stand up and fight for democracy. The Democratic Party does not recognize or support true democrats, and democracy, at this time.

True democrats do not vote for candidates that are selected, not elected.

True democrats put democracy above all other issues.

People all over the world have fought and died, and are still fighting and dying for democracy. The least we can do is fight with words and votes.

We study history so we don’t make the same mistakes as were made in the past. History tells us how democracy was taken away when people sat idly by or followed the wrong leader.
America sat idly by, and re-elected him, while Bush and his cohorts began taking away our freedoms, starting with our votes.

Are we going to allow our votes to be taken away again? Have we not learned anything?

This is about democracy.

Obama did cocaine and had his tiny peepee sucked off by Larry Sinclair.

I think people who are teetering on voting for Obama instead of McCain surely will change their minds when -

1) the Michelle Obama tape comes out, and you realize that she and her husband share an extreme hatred for people who are not Black or don’t practice Black Liberation Theology,
2) have an understanding of just what Black Liberation Theology and Nation of Islam stand for - both instrumental in Obama’s beliefs for over 20 years.
3) his overseas tape is revealed to show just how much he despises America and perhaps a wish to have it fall into further decay,
4) read his autobiography to see how similar it is to Mein Kampf as Obama is too a racialist and has a hair-trigger temper when it comes to issues HE perceives (albeit it true or not) to be because of his race, even against people who were his closest friends or family members (remember Grandma?).
5) his wife’s extreme intolerance bordering on cruelty in her treatment of those she doesn’t like (which pretty much makes up everyone), (birds of a feather flock together? His own elitism and arrogance and belittling of others,
6) his extreme leftist - even Socialist/Communistic like political ideaologies as documented by his awful policies and book (as well as his wife’s and supporters like Ayers’ statements). His calling for a redistribution of wealth, increasing taxes for everyone in the form of payroll Social Security taxes - that may not even be there by the time those who pay it are old enough to receive it) - a kind of robbing from the rich to pay the poor that time and time again has proven doesn’t work and ends up causing even greater economic woes as people can then no longer have income to start their own businesses and jobs then are lost on a massive scale,
5) his indoctrination at a young age into possible radical Islam - as evidenced by the close ties he keeps with Odinga in Kenya - a man who kills dissenters and wants to institute Sharia law,
6) corruption ties yet to be discovered (I know - so many already revealed and yet so much more to go).
7) direct ties with mafias, militant groups, revolutionary groups, racist anti-white groups, etc etc

Too numerous to go on - but I think just the above should make people seriously reconsider if they plan on voting for Obama or staying home, particularly if you live in a swing state. We know these guys cheat, the only way to prevent it is to vote in an overwhelming majority for McCain. We can survive another Bush term with a Democratic congress to reign him in, can you say with 100% conviction the same about an Obama presidency? Do you even trust the guy to keep us safe or to protect America? We are in dangerous times and we need a competent and experienced President. Hillary is the best, but given the situation, McCain is the only other viable option.

I agree mostly, but I don’t have a problem with Muslim ties. It’s just a religion. What I do have a problem with is the hate-mongering of his Christian church.

That’s embarassed all of us, but most certainly I feel for AA Christians who must cringe everytime that horrible tape runs.

I grew up in the South and certainly have no problem with the style of preaching. That’s a long-standing tradition. Ditto for the church being a place where the preacher wields considerable influence politically. That’s the deal.

But the hate part was not, I insist, a traditional part of the sermons. That is not right.

Yes - the majority of people practice moderate Islam which preaches freedom and deference to a god, what is scary is those who practice “radical” Islam - an extreme form that calls for violence and racial hatred, just like some instances of Nation of Islam, Panthers, KKK, even extreme BLT (even more extreme than Wright). This is the frightening form that most, if not all, peaceful Muslims denounce as do the majority of the people in the world. And yet, it is the form spreading rapidly through Indonesia - where Obama lived for a time. We deserve a straight answer from him as to what kinds of Islamic teachings did he receive. I honestly would take his word for it - if only he would actually address the issues of concern about him, especially when strong evidence exists.

No I was speaking to the OBAMABOTS

and there are Obamatrons

the BOTS are the paid and unpaid trolls that come to PRO HILLARY SITES to make trouble.

Excellent- thanks for the clarification!

Yes, The Obama campaign in S.C. should have never distributed that 4 page memo, bringing racial divisiveness into the primary race.

It was disturbing to think a potential POTUS would race-bait.

And of course Hillary Clinton would NEVER stoop that low would she?

The timeline is recorded for all posterity.

Obama played the race card!

That’s what happens when one has no experience or qualifications for a job, turn to gutter tactics.

Michelle never spoke from the pulpit at Trinity

No, she spoke at a gathering, but not from the pulpit.

Michelle never used that word. (whitey)

No, she used “why’d he.”

There is no tape of Michelle speaking from the pulpit and using “that word” - OK?

Nice lawyering language.

Comment by BluDawg | 2008-06-12 08:26:09

The “why did he” talking point, directly contradicts the talking point that there is no tape.

Maybe in 0bumaland you can have it both ways.

Comment by Arabella Trefoil | 2008-06-12 08:37:16

Good point. I don’t believe anything these people say. I even question what they mean by “that word.” Strange way to put it.

Well, there’s a documentary coming out this fall on the Oblahblah’s, so let’s just sit tight and see, shall we? The guy was on teevee last night and also did a doc on Hillary, was a big hater and tried to trash her and Bill for years. He was asked who he would vote for if it was Hillary vs. Obama. He said Hillary hands down any day of the week. Hmmmmm. Something tells me after this doc is released before Nov election, Oblahblah will be lucky to carry Illinois.

I’ve been waiting for the Latinos to chime in. Note that they suggest that the only SURE way to get that voter bloc is to put Hillary on the ticket.

“She has Latinos in the palm of her hand.”

Unless you count the caucui, where brown shirt intimidation, illegal campaigning, voter sheet forging, and other stuff went on. (All plainly posted on youtube.)

0buma only carried egghead neo-libs, and AA’s.

Hillary has all the other groups in her 18 Million voter army!

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-12 08:42:34

What was interesting to me is that the Latino political Dems are the ones warning him. McCain may have made his conservative bloc mad by joining on the failed amnesty bill last year, but he certainly did not make his Latino bloc mad with it, did he? *haha

Checking the electoral map latest polls, guess where the toss-up states will likely be? Well, golly gee, it’s just what Hillary knew. It’s Nevada, NM, CO…..all heavy Latino states.

Right now, Obama leads in only 1: CO, and that’s by a hair.

Comment by Mickey | 2008-06-12 08:43:30

Donna Brazile said that they do not need Latinos and white working class to win and also she said she would quit if the Superdelegates picked the nominee…I am still waiting Brazile.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-12 08:49:03

Well, Donna also is a nitwit. As usual, this election will be won or lost by Latinos in the West.
