Obama’s Birth Certificate BAMBOOZLE, Cont.

Friday we started a series on Obama’s birth certificate. The most recent post, Obama’s BIG Birth Certificate PROBLEM, featured two supposed “Certificates of Live Birth” from Honolulu, Hawaii: one presented as evidence of Obama’s 1961 birth; and the other certifying the birth of Patricia Decosta.

Here again is the document proffered by the Obama Campaign as evidence of his birth:

And here is Ms. Decosta’s certification:

We received confirmation from the Hawaii State Department of Health (HSDH) that:

1. Certified copies of birth certificates are NEVER sent electronically. Copies can be requested by qualified individuals in person, by mail, or on line; and the Vital Records (VR) office will MAIL the Certification of Live Birth within 4 to 6 weeks.

2. Certifications of Live Birth will ALWAYS include an embossed seal.

3. The Vital Records office will NEVER black out the certification number.

Thanks to our sharp readers, I’ve come up with a pretty interesting list of observations and questions so far. So, let’s review.

Observations/Questions:

1. Both documents reference the same form, indicated in the lower left corner: “OHSM 1.1 (Rev. 11/01) LASER,” likely meaning that this form was revised in Nov. 2001 for use with laser printers, AND therefore that both of these certifications theoretically would have been produced by the VR office in Nov. 2001 or later.

2. In the lower left section, Decosta’s document says “Date Accepted By State Registrar” and Obama’s says “Date Filed By Registrar.” If they were both produced on the same form, why is the language different?

3. Decosta’s “Certificate No.” in the upper right region is shown; Obama’s is blacked out with a clean-edged block. When was this done, by whom, and why would a birth certificate number be a secret? Again, this is never done by the HSDH.

4. Decosta’s shows an embossed seal in the lower center region; Obama’s has no embossed seal. Again, HSDH says certifications never leave the office without one.

5. Decosta’s shows a stamp with signature in the lower left region; Obama’s does not. Again, standard procedure?

6. Obama’s “father’s race” is shown as “African,” which many readers find odd given that it’s not descriptive for race. What was the term used on birth certificates in Hawaii in 1961 for an African American?

7. Both documents appear to show in the lower center region a faint date, such as the kind produced by a standard ink-pad stamp purchased in any office supply store. I cannot make out the dates. Maybe this is supposed to be the date that the certification was approved, or mailed? When does Obama claim that he “received” this document?”

8. The font on Decosta’s is much bolder than that on Obama’s.

9. Decosta’s reveals fold marks, which you’d expect from a mailed document; Obama’s shows no signs of being handled at all, as if it was never printed (and if that’s the case, how was the certificate number blacked out?).

In addition, Polarik finds all kinds of problems in the microscopic details, as have other readers with expertise in the fields of printing, graphics, etc.

Other questions based on reader comments and Google searches:

1. Obama obviously cannot claim that this document is his original birth certificate, so why doesn’t he comment on the whereabouts of the original?

2. Wikipedia says that “Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.” Are there records of his birth at that hospital? I have seen references that there are not, but have not researched further.

3. The HSDH provides for “late registration” of a birth, and some have suggested that Obama may have actually been born in Kenya and registered for birth in Hawaii later. Has anyone researched this?

And finally, a possibly related question is whether Obama registered for the Selective Service when he turned 18, as he was required to do by law. Did the SS registration require a birth certificate?

Any other comments, observations, or information?

The real way to know whether Obama was born in Kenya is to look at his mom’s passport record or Kenya’s records for foreign visitors entering/leaving the country around August.

Comment by catherine | 2008-06-21 15:13:15

It’s time to look into Stanley Dunham’s passport records for 1961.

Comment by BluDawg | 2008-06-21 15:29:51

How about the local newspaper, did they print birth announcments?

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-06-21 16:04:42

Not if, as Lou points out, she was somewhere hiding from the local folks who in 1961 - if her mother was bank president then - would not have been happy about the “girl” being pregnant out of wedlock and she indeed did go off to Kenya which would have been a decent choice of where to hide the pregnancy.

Oh, but wait, I just think I ruined my own theory: didn’t papa Barack have a wife while baby Barack was being born??? Yeah, maybe down the road in Kenya… and for all we know, may Barack’s mommy didn’t care.

Has anyone else noticed how everyone who could shed light on this kind of thing is conveniently dead or hidden?

And, consider this, there seems to be a complete huge inpenetrable wall around the “typical white grandma” he threw under the bus because as all of us have been so busy noticing her leg dragging while the bus is going down the road, we may have missed the fact that she is HIDDEN, now consider that: HIDDEN. On June 3rd when he announced his “theft” of the nomination, he mentioned “grandma, somewhere in Hawaii”. Who in his right mind (there’s that euphemism again!!) would not tell us where in Hawaii and he stumbled while saying this as he was kind of self-censoring himself (which he never does of course, ha, ha). I’m sure you can catch it on tape. My understanding is that the media does NOT know where she is and have been told she is “off limits” and have agreed to this like all the rest of what they’ve agreed to. I suspect, if someone has access to it, you will notice this on the video of his “acceptance of his theft” speech.

After all, you just couldn’t let someone who really know the truth to talk to the media, huh? BTW, no one seems to have access to anyone who was around when he was born. And don’t go to Kenya for the truth - these folks have definitely been bought off and are in the tank. But they do know and maybe somebody has that much money….

Glad you agree - I personally have been asking myself this question for some long time and have done many a Google search but not for a month or so…. but who in the hell refers to their grandma, by way of thanking her for his supposed pres nomination by saving “somewhere in Hawaii”….

I just emailed my U.S. Senator and Congressman and asked them to check into Senator Obama’s birth certificate. I think we should all do it. Surely, if thousands of people write their M.C. someone, somewhere will actually check the thing.

They weren’t married? I thought they were.

Comment by AJM | 2008-06-21 17:51:59

Per my memory from the Audacity book — Obama senior, per Obama’s Mom told her that he had divorced his wife in Kenya but papers were not available because it was a village wedding. Not the precise wording she reported but the gist. From other sources Obama senior continued to have a relationship with his first wife when Ann Stanton refused to go to Kenya — concerned about the violence in that country at that time and that the laws of that country would give him their child if they divorced. Obama senior had offended he by choosing to go to Harvard which would not pay for his wife over going to a lesser school that would.

His father, a Muslim, had another wife and other children before he bigamously married BO’s mother in an illegal marriage.

The anti of Christ, who was a Jew, is Muslim who are opposed to Jews. The mark of the beast is that BO’s mother was treated like an animal by the father and showed BO no affection but left him with surrogates all his life.

The numbers his real birth date add up to in numerology could be the reason his real birth certificate is unavailable

Comment by TexasDarlin | 2008-06-21 23:32:36

What if Stanley Ann Dunham went someplace else besides Kenya to have her baby? Perhaps someplace closer, but outside the US…

Comment by Anne | 2008-06-21 19:26:24

Here is my question after reading most of these thoughtful posts…has a marriage license been produced for Mom and Dad?

Since Dad was already married in Kenya, could the new parents just not have bothered, even though Barack’s book states they were married? It seems unlikely to me that they actually married in 1961, even in Hawaii. And travel to Kenya in 1961 seems even more remote. You think circumglobal air travel is expensive now - think about then?

If they did not legally marry, then the most likely reason he is hiding the original BC is because it says Barry Dunham on it, which would have been the logical thing for the typical white parents to advise their 18 year old daughter to do when filling out her son’s birth certificate.

That name would completely undermine the image of Barack that he is portraying of himself. By blacking out the number, there is less of a chance that a BC with the same number could be found, I suppose. Is it possible to find out if a Barry Dunham was born on August 4, 1961?

With current records protection laws, the public can’t, but a security background check should be able to determine this. What? Are we going to let our government wait until he takes the oath of office to request a certified birth certificate, regardless of what is on it?

P.S. I’ll bet B.O. somehow blames his own mother for not having the foresight at his birth to present him properly to our country’s eyes, just like he was aggravated every time she wanted to watch “Black Orpheus,” a great film. Parents always will forever embarrass their children, won’t they?

Comment by Lyn | 2008-06-21 20:39:05

This of course is just thinking, since there has to be a reason for the fake BC. Since he was already married with a kid, how could they get married in Hawaii? (or did Hawaii allow polygomous marriage?)So since some people suggest Obama was born in Kenya, maybe they got married in Kenya the same summer he was born since apparently you can have multiple wives there.
BUt maybe you are right and they didn’t get married which the BC would show.
The dumb thing is the fact that Obama is so secretive about this damn BC, just makes people wonder what he is hiding. IF at the beginning he just showed his real BC, if everything he says is true that would have been the end of discussion.

Comment by thenana1 | 2008-06-21 20:56:35

Maybe Barack Obama Sr. is not his father.

Comment by Anne | 2008-06-21 22:58:45

we should probably just stop the wild speculation that is based upon previous speculation in the comments, until more facts surface. This is how a good site gets discredited, and we don’t want that.

Great article. I went to the Selective Service Registration page, and it appears that you do NOT need to show a social security number, driver’s license, let alone a valid birth certificate.

As someone who has lived 30 of my 46 years in Michigan, I can tell you that I went to college and did post-graduate work (and obtained licensure in michigan), along with my driver’s license without ever showing a birth certificate. I do not have a VISA, so I do not know how Obama obtained a VISA without a valid birth certificate. However, I can see how one could obtain a driver’s license and obtain professional licensure without producing a birth certificate.

Kenya was part of colonial Britian in 1961. The Kenya constitution does not recognize citizenship of children of citizens born outside Kenya prior to nationhood. Go figure. The rules of citizenship for British colonials is even more arcane.

OBAMA BE PRESIDENT?

It could be that Barack Obama is not qualified to be president after all for the following reason:

Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between “December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986? Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal US Law very clearly stipulates: “If only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.”

Barack Obama’s father was not a U.S. citizen and Obama’s mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawaii being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obama’s birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn’t matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obama’s birth when she was 18 in Hawaii. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old, at the time of Barack Obama’s birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen.

As aforementioned, she was a young college student at the time and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Citizen parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office.

*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. citizen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16.

Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama’s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. election law.

I think the Gov. of California would be very interested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. citizen, and it would set precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will be leaking through over the next several days.

Comment by Denise | 2008-06-23 12:47:33

no one has memtioned that Obama’s wife works for a hospital in Chicago and could very easily get a blank birth cert.

Comment by Colin | 2008-06-29 10:19:19

Obama reported DOB is 8/4/61, but mother could have given birth on another date and made up DOB to give her son US Citizenship then reported info on “late file” birth certificate. Where was Dad during all this ? Where was Mom. When Obama applied for financiaL aid to college, what info did he provide ?

Comment by Terry | 2008-07-25 09:45:17

The birth certificate produced by the Obama campaign cannot be accepted with any portion of it amended or block out. If you will notice, in the bottom center in bold letters a disclaimer that says, “Any Alteration invalidates this certificate”.

Blocking out the certificate number invalidates the certificate.

If there isn’t a major problem with the birth or birth certificate, who would in his right mind post a false one?
There must be a good reason other than BO is a bit shy.
I am inclined to predict that this will bring up some serious trouble for him.

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-06-21 15:30:11

Do we have any evidence that there really is a “right mind” when it comes to Obama? His “right mind” seems to be perpetually devious and confused.

Comment by catherine | 2008-06-21 15:10:40

I agree this requires further scrutiny. Why is he making such a big deal about not presenting his REAL birth certificate?

Should’nt the FBI or some other government agency have the right and the duty to investigate if in fact a presidential candidate was born when and where he claims to have been born?

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-06-21 15:37:29

Not if this is the candidate which has been hand-picked by the Republican who is now in office so that he knows the Democratic candidate will simply blow up in the election. Barack Obama is the ONLY possible solution to the Republican’s horrific Presidential aspirations… just think: there is basically NO possible way for the Democrats to lose in ‘08 and we suddenly have the only guy that a Republican can seriously beat?

Why would Bush’s FBI want to help out with this little problem?

Comment by Teakwood | 2008-06-21 16:25:36

They also have no problem bringing prosecutions against political figures “within 90 days of an election”…Poor Senator Fienstien holding up her little red book at the hearings won’t help.

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-06-21 16:34:13

You would think that the FBI should have done this already…after all Presidents have to Top Secret clearance ahead of time. Wouldn’t you assume that it would require an extensive microscopic background check?

When I worked for the US Army as a civilian employee, even as a Secretary/typist at 18yo, I had to be investigated for a TS security clearance. They even came to my parents neighborhood and asked questions of the neighbors. Of course, that was during the cold war…maybe now with open borders and all it doesn’t matter.

Comment by Lyn | 2008-06-21 17:26:00

When I was wasting my time calling the DNC daily, I asked IF they did security clearnece on Pres Noms, since I couldn’t understand HOW Obama could have passed it, with his connections to Ayers, Odingo ect. A neighbor I hardly even know was getting a mid lever gov job that required clearence and they came and interviewed ME for over an hour even tho I said I just say Hi to the guy if he walks by. They told me they don’t do clearence checks since by the time someone is running for President if there was any problems people would have found out. I asked are you sure there is NO checks, where can I find out for sure and I was told to google it. I told them that is how I found out all his bad ties and it is a shame no one in the DNC botherred to even google him before they decided to back him.
I also wonder with his ties, how was he able to get on or head some of the Senate comittees he is on, you would think that needed some clearence.

Comment by gokart-mozart | 2008-06-22 06:37:28

Security checks are done pursuant to the executive authority that the People vest in the President for a brief time.

Therefore, the question of security checks for POTUS is meaningless. Getting 271 electoral votes eliminates the need, and also the possibility, of a security check, since the checking personnel serve at the pleasure, and under the authority, of the President.

We noticed much the same thing and noted it on http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com a week or so ago. http://www.theotherdemocrats.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=77&view=findpost&p=312
The fact that the lettering is pixelated tells me that it was digitally produced and it would be a resolution issue. However, that could be true if it’s the manner in which the thing was scanned. BUT - here’s the biggie - the ’safety paper’ isn’t pixelated in the same manner, which indicates it was a graphic file at a different resolution than the lettering that was placed on top of it. Same with the seal - the letters are far clearer than the seal. What self-respecting state would issue such a tacky, pixelated seal on an official document.

Polarik is right - something is fishy about this.

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-06-21 15:27:19

I must say that I am simply a bit confused here but am following you mostly (and agree with the fishiness for several reasons) but for the following:

the “pixelated seal” you are referring to is the top center round seal of the state of Hawaii and you are NOT referring to the embossed seal? Correct? And the letters in the “information” portion of the certificate are far clearer? Correct?

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-06-21 17:49:43

No. An official b/c by definition has the embossed seal on it, as any notarized document would.

The man needs to stick to the truth. If you only tell the truth, then it’s far less complicated to remember what you said.

Comment by Jack | 2008-06-21 15:16:59

why would a birth certificate number be a secret?

Maybe for identity theft or similar security reasons.

“What was the term used on birth certificates in Hawaii in 1961 for an African American?”

BHO sr. wasn’t an American. He was an African.

“Did the SS registration require an original birth certificate?”

Nothing of the sort.

“Obama may have actually been born in Kenya”

A pregnant girl from Hawaii flies all the way to Kenya, in 1961 no less, to have a baby? No family member in Kenya brings this up in their proud memories? No. If he’s hiding something, it’s something else.

Comment by Jack | 2008-06-21 15:21:19

BTW, about “African.”

Look at the real certificate, it uses “caucasian” for mother and “white” for father. So within one document different words are used.

Comment by fooj | 2008-06-21 15:39:58

Looks like “someone” can’t spell calcasian on Little Lord Obama’s certificate.

Just my 2 cents…

Comment by socalannie | 2008-06-21 16:10:52

Actually, on the real cert, it says, “Caucasian Hawaiian”, and then “White”. The mother was undoubtedly of mixed races and that’s how the clerk (or hospital nurse) chose to describe it. I have four step-siblings that were born in Hawaii during the 60’s & I’ve asked my Mom to tell me what their certs look like, but she hasn’t found them yet. They have a white father & their mother was part Hawaiian, part Chinese, part German, so who knows what designation would be used for her race.

My husband & I are white & out own birth certs list our parents race as: White. We were born in the 50’s. I asked several of my AA friends *who were born in the 60’s, in different states) how their birth certs list their parents race & they all told me the same thing: Negro. The US Census used the following terms for race until 1980 for non-whites: Negro, American Indian, Chinese, Japanese. Now of course they use: Black or AA, Native American, & Asian.

The word caucasian generally means people who are white to light skinned, but can also have a broad meaning including people from Europe & West Asia.

I couldn’t find any other instance of the word “African” used as a race, which makes sense, since Africa is a continent peopled by different races. The designation “African” on Obama’s supposed birth cert looks ridiculous.

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-06-21 16:49:35

Yeah, I agree. Since there were caucasian/whites in charge of a lot of Africa at that time. It really doesn’t make sense for that time to describe someone’s race as African. It might make sense for someone in this day and age though to think in those terms when forging a document.

Comment by mahaska | 2008-06-21 17:32:39

If I were part Hawaiian, I would definately want it on the birth certs of my children. I would want to claim any link to the islands that were before the influx of missionaries.

Comment by Hawaiian? | 2008-08-26 14:47:25

How’s this one..

My brother who is Japanese and my ex-sister-in-law whom is Caucasion, had a boy and on his BC my brothers race is listed as HAWAIIAN. (Nephew was born in Alabama, and the nurse assumed that if you live in Hawaii you must be Hawaiian!)

Comment by mahaska | 2008-06-21 17:30:11

It says caucasian hawaiian. I beleive it means she is of mixed race.
Also, African isn’t a race, it’s a Nationality.

Comment by ketch | 2008-07-21 15:23:41

“African” is NOT a nationality. Africa is a continent. It contains MANY nations. However, we do use the terms Asian and European in designating racial origin. Maybe the issuing clerk was as ignorant as some of you!

Comment by derridog | 2008-06-21 21:22:52

That’s a good observation. It may just be that they took whatever the parents said and wrote it down in terms of race.

Comment by Lou | 2008-06-21 15:28:39

Given the fact that in 1961, this pregnancy would have been hidden as usual for those days. It was a ruinous scandal to be pregnant out of wedlock and more so from an African man. Women went undercover to private places like catholic charities but only if they chose to give the baby up for adoption. She would have had to leave the coutry to have the baby in order to escape ridicule and being ostracized in her community. Chances are she went to Kenya before the pregnancy “showed”. This preganancy was not something a woman/girl or her family would allow the general public to know during this era. Even the hospitals would be a danger to anonymity. I think she left for Kenya before she began to “show”.

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-06-21 15:34:18

Extremely good point - significant and one that escaped me until you offered it. Besides the grandmother - that is “the typical white grandmother”, Obama’s mother’s mother was a bank president at some point so she would have had plenty of reason to hide this pregnancy. Very very good reason to do so and particularly in 1961. 1968 might have been a different story - maybe not. But definitely in ‘61.

Comment by Lyn | 2008-06-21 18:16:08

It’s helpful that he was born in August during summer break at College, good time to go to Kenya to meet the new relatives.
Has anyone else read that the GOP in Kenya found a BC of a BHOjr that was born in Kenya and named the town? I can’t remeber where I saw that.

Comment by TexasDarlin | 2008-06-22 01:22:46

Intriguing point. It was 1960 and Ann was 18 and unwed. Where did she live during her pregnancy and up until birth? I read that Obama Sr. lived in a dorm.

Perhaps she went out of the country but not as far as Kenya.

Comment by Bobbi | 2008-06-25 19:26:43

These people are digging themselves into a hole. I just wish I knew what it was. I’m sure we’ll find it sooner or later. I wish sooner rather than later.

He’s white. The birth certificate lists him as caucasian.

Comment by Lou | 2008-06-21 15:17:53

I’d like to see this birth certificate and Obama’s side by side.

After all..it states in big black letters on the bottom of the certificate that “Any alterations ivalidate this certificate”

This post is NoQuarter in a nutshell.

Suitable for framing… the all caps, the misspellings, the bad grammar and the pervasive craziness.

Perfection.

The person who wrote this is sincere, and obviously concerned and appealing to someone with authority to a
act quickly and DO SOMETHING! FAST! Literacy is not the issue here!

This is just precious.

The beauty in this canard is it’s so at once silly, stupid, delusional, and crazy that I find it difficult to mock…

But I’ll try anyway.

Lemme guess, the REAL birth certificate is hidden under the kilt of Larry Sinclair’s lawyer?

Fake dry humor to turn away from the fact that BO is worthless lying scum. If he had a birth certificate that was legit, all of you worthless asswipes would have it as a screen saver as well as an avatar to prove its true.

Instead of blogging..how about getting a fucking life. Or better yet, call your messiah and ask him to create a new one. I mean he can recreate life to bring people back to vote against Senator Clinton.

Recreating a birth certificate should be a piece of cake. DB3 get a life. Oh and that stands for Dead Beat Blogger. Bitch

I recommend switching to decaf.

Your denials are like when ‘Baghdad Bob’ was telling CNN on the roof of the state TV building that there were no Americans in Baghdad while over his shoulder you could see M1A1 Abrams tanks crossing an intersection.
Maybe a bad analogy for this site but it accurately points out that you can scrinch up your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and mumble ‘Obamamamma’ until you turn red in the face and IT WILL NOT CHANGE THE FACTS.
Your candidate is a Marxist based toad whose only credo is to win at all costs.
His problem is that he thinks he’s already done it.

Are you the political analyst Tanya Acker on FOX News?? You sure write like she talks. LOL

Comment by MessyMarcy | 2008-06-21 16:52:10

I recommend switching to decaf.

We’ll take that under advisement (just as soon as we get stupid enough to take advice from Obamabutts).

However, you really should consider easing up on the Koolaid — you want to be alert when those folks legally monitoring all your communications (thanks to your Messiah) call you in for questioning.

Way back when I wrote at TM that I thought BO was born in Kenya. My comment was picked up by an obot and posted at the tmexperience page. But, the fact remains the McCaskill and BO tried to get some legislation passed about american citizens born abroad being eligible to be POTUS. At the time they pretended they were doing it to benefit John McCain since he was born in Panama…and, if you believe that McCaskill and BO would do anything to legitimize an opponents right to have his or her name remain on a ballot — ha, ha, ha.

Sorry, that’s just too funny.

Comment by kanaughty | 2008-06-21 18:28:11

awesome. so true. so true, so his real one will come out after the convention and congress will have to write and pass another amendment to make bo eligible which sucks cause i think you should have to pass a law like this before anyone even enters the race to make it fair for everyone… like maybe the terminator could have run after the roolz they will pass in september to let bo run legally.

Comment by Bobbi | 2008-06-25 19:30:52

I don’t think they’ll have enough time to pass this law. i think the nomination will just go to Hillary by default.

Quote~”And finally, a possibly related question is whether Obama registered for the Selective Service when he turned 18, as he was required to do by law. Did the SS registration require an original birth certificate?”

None of my five brothers born in the 60’s were required to sign up for SS that I am aware of. I was in the military when most of them turned 18, so I am of no help there. My son who was born in 84 was required. I don’t know if anything changed, but he didn’t have to present anything. They sent him a card. He filled it out and sent it back.

Comment by BluDawg | 2008-06-21 15:34:04

That should be easily verified or not, the selective service falls under the Foi act.

I don’t like Obama and regulary post against him, but I don’t see any evidence here at all. I’m sure the Obama certificate was a scanned copy of a copy and is the reasons for the absense of the seals. Copy machines don’t catch those types of things. Some of the other items may or may not be crucial. There could be differences because of the differences in dates of birth.

To the slective serrvice question. I’m not positive about this, but I do have a pretty decent memory and I’m almost certain that I was one of the first people to have to register with the selective service and I’m 5 years younger than Obama, so he ma not have been required to do this when he was 18.

Comment by Cooney | 2008-06-21 16:52:20

Don’t you think that if he is putting something up on his website or giving it to kos and he wanted to debunk the rumor he would put something that resembles a real birth certificate. My God he could have gone to kinko’s and gotten a better forgery than this one. Makes my heart go pitter patter to know that he has people this stupid doing his mythbusting. It’s not real, I have four kids and needed certified birth certificates for everything from little league to SS numbers. There is always an official impressed seal, always.

Comment by Bobbi | 2008-06-25 19:41:16

as far as a home birth is concerned, they were not fashionable until recent years. and, even if this were the case, the midwife would have had to send in official documentation of the live birth. Anyone know if midwifery was being practiced in Hawaii then?

Comment by Dr No | 2008-06-22 14:37:33

How come the seal is visible on Ms. Decosta’s certificate then?

Comment by Teakwood | 2008-06-21 16:35:47

There was only one year this was not required. Carter I believe suspended this for people born in the year 1959.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-06-21 17:03:40

In the sixties we all had to register at 18 yrs. But after Vietnam, they stopped the draft and I think there was a period where Selective Service may have gone on break. My son born in the 80’s did register.
