POLL: Majority of Americans Believe Obama Does Not View America Favorably

Barack Obama has a patriotism problem. According to a poll Rasmussen Reports conducted on 20 JUN 2008,
Forty-five percent (45%) say that Obama views our society as generally fair and decent while 39% think the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee sees society as generally unfair and discriminatory.
One can assume a candidate has an electability problem when a majority of Americans (55%) do not believe that candidate views the society he desires to represent as “fair and decent.” This is especially the case when a strong majority of Americans believe his opponent reveres the country he served during the Viet Nam War. I quote:
Sixty-three percent (63%) of Likely Voters in the United States say that John McCain views American society as generally fair and decent. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 14% think McCain views the nation as primarily unfair and discriminatory.
Even worse for Obama is the following finding of the Rasmussen Reports poll:
Sixty-four percent (64%) of Democrats say that Obama views society as fair and decent while only 50% believe McCain holds that view.
Republicans by a 77% to 7% margin say McCain views society as fair and decent. By a 66% to 22% margin, GOP voters think Obama sees society as generally unfair and discriminatory.
More than one of three members of Obama’s political Party believe the candidate assesses American society in a manner that is overly critical and unfair. Either Obama has failed to consolidate support within his political party, or Rasmussen Reports has measured what can be called the PUMA effect. Perhaps Rasmussen Reports simply recorded the discursive effects of the following:

You prove my point. There is discrimintion and unfair treatment in this country. So the fact that some people think that Obama realizes it should not be some sort of smear against him.
There are issues with sexism. There are issues with race. There are issues with the poor being taken advantage of. Not everywhere, and not by everyone. But those issues doexist. And if Obama understands that and McCain does not, then I would think that is a point in Obama’s favor.
(For those who can only think in terms of Hllary, well Hillary thought it too. She commented on sexism several times. So she agrees too.)

However, the author of the post does seem to have that problem. He says “Obama has a problem with patriotism” because some percentage of the population thinks he thinks there is some unfairness and discrimination in the US. Is that a rational position? Is it unpatriotic to believe there is unfairness and discrimination in this country? Is it unpatriotic to think that Hillary Clinton was treated unfairly and discriminated against because she is a woman? I just don’t get that.
Obama said Americans are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. He said they are racist - that they won’t vote for him, because he’s black and has a funny name - and that they blame their problems on people who look different from them. This poll says the majority of Americans find that view unpatriotic. McCain is a war hero, and people have no questions about his love for this country.

If you read the poll, you will see that it did not mention patriotism. That was added by the author of the post. It’s a common trick. Make an association that does not exist in fact, and many readers will just follow along.
You can argue that those things Obama said have hurt him - that’s a valid argument. And you can say you won’t vote for someone who says those things. That’s certainly your right. But my original point was it is an odd thing for a site that is dedicated to proving a candidate was treated unfairly and discriminated against to say that a candidate that believes there is unfairness and discrimination is unpatriotic.
