Greta Van Susteran conducted a three-part interview with Speaker Pelosi yesterday on her show, On The Record. (Here is the video for Part I. The other two parts are below the fold. Fox News also has a partial transcript.)
Ms. Van Susteren does an excellent job in this interview. She does not let Speaker Pelosi get by with a lot. My letter to Ms. Van Susteren in response to this interview is below:
Dear Ms. Van Susteren:
Thank you for your interview with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. You have consistently been one of the BEST interviewers during this campaign season. I have a lot of respect for you. And I should add, I have been impressed at your willingness to allow the interviewee to actually answer your questions fully. That is a skill sorely lacking among many currently in the media.
As to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, let me say this: I am a 50 yr old, FAR left liberal, lifelong Democrat who has chosen to leave the Democratic Party after the actions of Barack Obama, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi, the DNC elite, and the RBC of the DNC.
For Speaker Pelosi to blow off your question about the level of sexism in this campaign by saying, “well, I’m too busy being Speaker of the House, so I haven’t been able to document this…” was reprehensible. DOCUMENT it??? She was part of the PROBLEM!!
And she did not NEED to document it - it was blatantly OBVIOUS!! There is not a doubt in my mind that Speaker Pelosi’s derogatory comments toward Senator Clinton this Primary Season were born out of her own fear of having a woman who will show how INCAPABLE Pelosi has been by contrast. Senator Clinton works HARD on behalf of her constituents, and the American people. Her abilities, her intellect, her drive, would clearly show up Speaker Pelosi’s horrible leadership as Speaker. No doubt in my mind.
And Speaker Pelosi is wrong. Obama is NOT the nominee YET, as you reminded her - the Convention is not until the end of AUGUST!!! And his “better ideas” are ALL ones he has copied from SENATOR CLINTON!!!

Even his recent statements on gas prices are the SAME ones about which he criticized Senator CLINTON just last month!
He has NO original ideas - he is merely a copy cat, of Deval Patrick, of Chicago poltiics, and of Clinton’s policies. How many times did he say in the debates, “What she said”?? He has no firm stances, no firm policies, and certainly no NEW ideas. Seems we just went through 7 1/2 yrs of another candidate who was similar in many regards, except one - he was actually MORE experienced than Senator Obama is now, and we all thought BUSH was too inexperienced to be President! Oh, wait - Obama did take ONE stand - he voted for the Bush/Cheney Energy Bill!!
And for Pelosi to claim that Obama is not a Washington insider with ALL of the Washington insiders who have been running his campaign is just laughable. Daschle? Kennedy? Kerry? Pelosi? Dodd? Leahy? Axelrod?? The list goes on and on. Not only is he not the blank slate she pretends he is, he comes from Chicago politics, politics in which he gets elected by getting EVERYONE else off the ballot! Politics in which the Republican contender for the Senate seat mysteriously has his divorce papers unsealed, thus forcing him to drop out, and he competes against ALAN KEYES!!! A State Senator who did NOTHING on his own, having his name attached to legislation on which he did NOT work by Emil Jones, legislation he neither earned nor deserved. He is a US Senator who has done NOTHING, including not chairing his OWN subcommittee on NATO and Afghanistan, a Senator who has spent more time campaigning than working, a US Senator who won’t even vote on issues when he is in the BUILDING! He has NO real experience, and compared to Senator Clinton, he is SINGULARLY unqualified to be President. I will never, EVER vote for this arrogant, sexist, inexperienced man who is SORELY lacking in good judgment - his closest associates bears that out (Ayers, Rezko, Meeks, Wright, Auchi, et. al).
I won’t even go into the behavior of Obama’s campaign and his supporters except to say, the vitriol he has spewed about Senator Clinton in his speeches has given rise to a tremendous amount of acting out by his followers. It has become unsafe for people to speak out against him for fear of retribution. It is hard to believe this is still the USA…And it comes from the TOP down, no doubt about it.
I won’t bore you with all of my retorts to her ridiculous responses to your excellent questions, but her response about Obama’s choice of church is absurd. People DO care about the kind of message to which he has been listening for 20 years! People DO care that he counts The Reverend Wright as family to him. People DO care about the connection between TUCC and the Nation of Islam! It is not enough that “at least he goes to church” - what KIND of church it is MATTERS!!!
Speaker Pelosi is COMPLETELY out of touch with the American people. And her behavior toward Senator Clinton will not be forgotten, OR forgiven.
Finally, the vote stealing by the RBC/DNC, voter fraud, and inaction by the DNC of numerous reports of unethical behavior at the least, and illegal activity at most, in the caucuses made it CLEAR that the DNC did not care who the people wanted, contrary to Pelosi’s constant refrain that Obama is the people’s choice.
I never thought I would see the DNC disenfranchise voters , especially after the 2000 Florida debacle, never mind STEAL votes and delegates as they did in MI, and so blatantly go against the will of the people, but that is EXACTLY what they have done. Their actions, especially the theft of actual votes and delegates from Senator Clinton TO Senator Obama, who was not even on the BALLOT in MI, have proven to me that the fix was in to shove this unqualified candidate down our throats. I am ashamed of what the Democratic Party has become. I am ashamed of how they have conducted themselves in this primary. And I am sad that the Party to which I have belonged for decades has become one of such immorality. The DNC’s candidate will get neither my money NOR my vote.

I also saw the interview Greta did with Pelosi - I was angered when she stated Obama was elected (not selected) as our nominee. It seemed she left no room for the possibility that there could be a change at the Convention.

It was clear from Pelosi’s waffling on Obama’s accomplishments that the DNC clearly just wants the most MOLDABLE candidate they can find, and Obama’s the dupe, but he’s a dupe who comes with considerable finances from the likes of Auchi, Alsammarae, formerly Rezko, and The Arabs of Chicagoland [yes, that IS an organization! Go to Atlas Shrugs to read all about Obama’s Arab friends and their ties to Saddam Hussein.] And is there not a government agency responsible for investigating the authenticity of the citizenship of presidential candidates??? I liked the way Nancy kept trying to filibuster the conversation when she got a question she didn’t like or she saw one coming. But Greta patiently waited for her to finish and just when Pelosi thought she got away with it, Greta would ask her again. She really is one of the best interviewers and she makes guys like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann look like fools.
Thanks, ME, and I agree abt Greta’s skills. I remember when she was getting ready to take this job, she was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (which I haven’t been able to watch in months). He was giving her crap for going to Fox, as many of us were shocked she was doing. But, she really is one of the better interviewers on cable news. Like I said, she lets people TALK, which enables the viewers to get a fuller sense of the people. (She did the same with Hillary, and it was an AWESOME interview.) Her patience in questioning really does pay off, like with Pelosi trying to WORM her way out…
And she did not back off from letting Nancy know a whole BUNCH of us are very unhappy with the “selection-not-election” manuever of the DNC. GOod that SOMEBODY is!!

In an interview published in the San Francisco Chronicle, Pelosi stated her greatest achievements as Speaker has been keeping bills from reaching the floor of the House for debate. She is proud of her record of not doing the job she has been entrusted with, write, debate, negotiate, amend and vote on legislation, and let it be decided yea or nay on its merits. But that requires taking a stand and a hard position, can’t have that, she must be able to please all of the voters all of the time. Best way to do that is, as she states, is to take positions on matters outside the Constitution purview of Congress and pass meaningless feel good resolutions on Armenia, Tibet and Darfur, at least you can tell the voters you are concerned and then blame the President for not doing enough to resolve these matters that are otherwise outside the power or influence of the US.
It is no wonder why. with Pelosi (and Reid) in charge of Congress, GWB’s approval rating, as low as it is, is still about 50% better than the approval rating for Congress.
Amy this is really a great letter. You stated everything that I was thinking and put into words. I wrote to her to ask her to endorse my candidate and why I thought Hillary was qualified to be President. Since then I have wrote to her letting her know how I felt everytime she was in the news with her “comments”. I think it is pure jealously. I was thrilled when she became the first woman Speaker of the House, but she has been a disappointment. What has she accomplished? The only thing I can think of is helping to divide the Democratic Party.

I was angry watching it live I jumped up and sent the following letter to her.
Madam Speaker,
I am listening to you with Greta Van Sustren and if I was outraged before I am speechless now. You absolutely do not get it. The party did not choose Obama, the most unqualified candidate the party has ever put forth, he was selected by party elites after throwing Hillary under the bus. How dare you say we who reject him have no choice? 18 million people voted for Hillary, how do you square that Howard Dean has said she will not be on the first ballot, although he was in 2004 with only 167.5 delegates? Is that following “the rules,” or is it that what they do in Banana Republics?
And, I know you know better than to hold Roe v Wade over women’s heads as it is settled law having survived 23 years of Republican control. You know the only way Roe can be overturned is by Constitutional amendment and that’s not bloody likely.
If I was ambivalent before about voting for McCain I am not now, I will work with PUMA, JustSayNoDeal, and any other group whose goal is to defeat Obama. I cannot articulate the anger I feel right now after hearing you completely dismiss the despair Greta said she is hearing in e-mails from women who watched the constant sexist assaults of Hillary.

Kathie, your comment was right on. I sent two emails to her yesterday and mentioned Roe in both. I remember the horror of illegal abortions. The deaths, if they were reported at all, were usually small articles printed only after a doctor or someone else was arrested.
Before the early 70s, people didn’t even talk about unwanted pregnancies much less abortions. I am angry with myself that it took me forty years to understand I was being played and my vote extorted.
Before I changed my affiliation to Independent, I sent so many emails to so many people in the Party about the sexism and this arranged marriage with Obama and I never got anything more than the canned reply. After June 2,(the day I changed my affiliation) I kept getting letters from Obama, Gore and, today, Russ Feingold asking for money. I have unsubscribed four times to DNC emails and every single letter and email except the last one from the DNC, gave Roe as a reason to vote for Obama.
I answered every single one and told them I just don’t care about Roe anymore. They can’t seem to understand. They were supposed to vote on the FISA Bill today and they can’t even do that. They have allowed Obama to use race as a wedge and that is immoral. I’m afraid they have unleashed something they can’t control. If I send anymore emails to Pelosi, I’m going to add at the bottom,”IRON MY SHIRT”.

Pelosi is the worst kind of female leader, IMHO - the one who finally gets her hand the brass ring and loses the ability to DO SOMETHING while she has it!

She had absolutely nothing to say about Ohblahma except he was “fresh”…..at a time when we’re on the “brink of recession” she wants “fresh”…they have little cardboard pine trees to hang in your car if you want “fresh”!

Netroots feel jilted by Obama’s FISA stand( Suckers)
“He broke faith,” said Matt Stoller, a political consultant and blogger at OpenLeft.com. “Obama pledged to filibuster, and he is part of that old politics, in this case, that he said he wasn’t. It will spur us to challenge him.
“It angers the blogosphere to its core,” said Jane Hamsher, founder of the popular blog Firedoglake.com. “We want to be able to know: What did you do? If we can get that information, we can make sure they don’t do that again. We can get the public engaged.”
MoveOn.org has called upon its members to pressure Obama to “keep his word” and block the bill when it comes up for a Senate vote. Obama has given no indication that he would support a filibuster, and a press aide did not respond to requests for clarification on this point.

Oh there’s a shocker. Obama didn’t keep his word. We’ve asked for substance all of these months. We got hope and change.
The attacks were vicious when we pointed out why that wasn’t enough.
Now they’re upset that the reality doesn’t match the rhetoric.
Now who was it that warned them about this? Who was it?
Some people and another presidential candidate.
Maybe it will come to me.
No surprise there. The only folks who were caught off guard were drinking Kool Aid, and learning that politicians DO change their word when convenient.

Maybe those punks will feel even more jilted if Obama wins and brings back the draft
