I totally agree. White America defend your opinions, they are valid and just.
This entire subject is unproductive, and divisive. I, an African-American, was called a RACIST by my African-American husband.

LOL LOL

We'll see. I look forward to seeing the sad sack faces of PUMA folks crying because the majority of Hillary supporters supported Obama and he won. You will then have to whine for 4 years and support repubs whose policies are diametrically opposite that of Hillary's and Obama's just to keep your hate going. I'm going to have a great time on Nov. 5th.

Way to go JC! For the rest of you, what about Grover Norquist's comments that Obama is like John Kerry with a tan. Nothing racial or racist there? I know you guys and Fox haven't reported on it because it undercuts your whole Obama is--throwing-out-racists-accusations. Obama is a flawed candidate, as any candidate is. You can be wholly against Obama and not be a racist. A person can be very conservative and not like Obama's positions or very liberal and not like his positions. However, it was legitimate for Obama to point out that is going to be a repub line of attack and to act like race will never be a factor is naive. the problem on this blog is most here can't get over Hillary losing the primaries. Therefore, you fall for all sort of anti-Obama nonsense. You support McCain as better than Obama just because he beat your primary candidate. You conveniently forget that McCain smiled as a support asked him how will he beat the "b*tch." In fact that video was on his site until recently. You forget that Hillary and Obama agree on more issues than Hillary and McCain.

Eight years ago when I expressed my views that President Bush was an inexperienced, incompetent, elitist who would destroy this nation, I was labeled a bleeding heart liberal who spent too much time hugging trees. Now when I express a similar opinion about a current presidential candidate, I'm a card carrying KKK racist. I'm lumped with people who consider races other than their own to be inferior human beings and burn crosses in front of their homes. I'm someone to be feared, who advocates white supremacy.

From bleeding heart liberal who advocates equal rights for all races, flora and fauna to swastika idolizing in a mere eight years. My advancement is mind boggling.

When another faction manipulates the election process in 2016 with an inexperienced, incompetent candidate and I express my opinion, will I climb the ladder to sociopathic child serial killer?

I think Senator Obama is an accomplished, very intelligent man. His expertise at manipulation is a shining beacon of his intelligence. However, he doesn't have the knowledge, experience or value system I require for the presidency.

Labeling my criteria for choosing a candidate as racist shows how far this nation has fallen in the 21st century. And will continue to fall unless we speak up now and refuse to let factions determine who will occupy the Oval Office.

Pat, you have become a really accomplished political cartoonist and commentator. You always get right to the point. Freedom of speech is indeed in serious jeopardy when you can’t criticize a candidate on substantive issues without being called a racist if the candidate happens to be a member of a minority race. Thanks for your courage to speak your mind on the issues. The Obamabots must not be allowed to stifle freedom of speech. Please continue to illustrate the crucial issues through your marvelous cartoons.

I wanted to add after years on political debate boards, this quote has served me well in standing up to intolerance of all kinds, racism included.

The quote from Larry Flint is to show that even if other don't agree with people's views, jobs, religion, education level, gun toting ways, rural life, etc.

The important part of this democracy is honoring those differences by the act of agreeing to disagree, and never allowing others to quiet those voices. Larry Flynt's fight on behalf of the First Amendment is an honorable one....and a fight these young people probably don't remember and might not read the link to find out.

So, it is probably better to clarify, in the light of sooo many who are uninformed why the choice of Flynt, who most consider offensive, to make the point.

However, I don't want anyone to think that I'm offended by the artist or any of his work, because I agree with the statement that he has been very thoughtful in his choices of subject matter to depict.

Epilogue--

When the threads on my cartoons starts to wain, I like to read them all and see what falls out. There was some really good commentary here--lots for me to think about. I especially regret not including in my story that race-baiting as it is being done here harms African Americans. But several of you did a wonderful job of developing that point.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Negative comments are expected in this business, but I listen and consider everyone. Even the "trolls."
