No Quarter’s Bud White had a fascinating conversation with Heidi Li Feldman and Marc Rubin of The Denver Group. It turns out that Mr. White is a real pro (sort of a likeable and more intelligent Charlie Rose) and starts he things off with:
“Keeping the Democratic Party democratic.” That’s the motto of the newly formed The Denver Group. The Denver Group’s stated goal is an open, Democratic convention, with Hillary’s name on the ballot.
Their Web site says:
“To deny Senator Clinton a rightful place on the ballot in an attempt to foster a false image of party unity based on unofficial declarations by super delegates. It will fool no one and only create more disunity. It is in everyone’s best interest, especially the Democratic Party and its chances in November, to hold an open and honest convention.”****

I do not view this as posed. Obama has a “tightly wrapped message.” If he shortens the convention it gives him an “out” for not allowing Kucinich and other runners up give speeches. It will give less time for Hillary delegates to complain that there will be no roll-call vote, only a Baathist-style election. And mostly, it allows less time to talk about anything other than Obama.

I can’t listen to it right now, I’m at work. I’ll listen to it later this afternoon.
I got so absorbed in listening to this interview that I forgot I was supposed to click Publish and get it up on the blog so you can all listen! Now to go back and listen to the rest.
I told V and Bud White that this was real sustenance for me, starved as I am from so much of what passes for media these days, most of which is junk food.
Almost all of the long-interview shows have gone away. Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley are two of the last good interviewers. Some who’ve left us include Tom Snyder (who covered the gamut, from light and funny to the very serious) and Charles Grodin (remember his show on MSNBC in its early days?) PBS Newshour sometimes does good, longer interviews. And, of course, there’s NPR.
But this interview today is one of the very best I’ve heard in a long time. Bud does a great job of steering the conversation without getting in the way or interrupting, as Charlie Rose does unfortunately at times. And the two guests are superb.

Try asking your black friend how she feels about the term “the blacks”, especially coming from a white person. Then ask her how she feels about a statement like “99% of the blacks don’t even know why they’re voting for him.” Come back and let us know what she says. I have a feeling you might be surprised.
99% of the blacks are voting for Obama because he is black, that is obvious but nobody is supposed to point out racist black tendencies.
Hey, if it were up to me, your little mascot would be on all the major networks as often as possible. Her unhinged rants about “the blacks” reveal everything America needs to know about the true nature of the PUMA mini-coalition. Please, by all means, let’s see more of this woman!

Another particularly vivid example of this pervasive attitude occurred when Senator Dodd endorsed Obama with all fanfare on the same day that a crucial debate was to be held between the last two standing. He obviously intended to throw Hillary off her stride with this audacious move. That was the day that I lost all respect for Chris Dodd! What a dirty trick! I wrote him a letter telling him just that and was, of course, summarily ignored.

No way democracy can be practiced with the current political system in place.
The two party system in America doesn’t work any more for the benefits of the American people but for politicians with machinations.
This is the trend of politics in the world right now.
If you have a politician staying too long in the political scene, that politician will not fight for for the rights/aspirations of his/her voters but his/her avaricious personal interests.
If we have a two term tenure for the presidency, why can’t we have a two term tenure for all politicians?
Once a person stays on a job for too long, that person’s enthusiasm in the job diminishes and the job performance declines.
Therefore to solve this perennial problems in our political system is to overhaul the current political system and boot all the incumbents out of their jobs come general election.

I have about a gazillion errands to take care of, but I listened to the whole interview. This is one of the most intelligent and encouraging things I’ve heard in months. Great piece. Hope we hear more like it.

On riverdaughter, Gary and Mawm recently posted what transpired at the Unity event in NH. Interviewing them to get the real story of what happened at NH and at RBC meeting earlier will be good.

Denver group has to go beyond the floor vote and also argue that if Clinton gets the majority vote in that roll call, the party has to accept that as the final verdict and legitimately nominate her — this also underscores that there can’t be any of their shenanigans on the SDs and they should be allowed to vote their conscience for the best qualified candidate.
“deeply involved in the campaign” I would rephrase it to say deeply involved in the primary, not necessarily Hillary’s campaign.
Also, the party does not want a floor vote because they are afraid Hillary will come out ahead with the majority vote.
It was a truly intelligent conversation that covered all aspects of the illegitimacy of this primary process. As someone else posted it give me “hope”!
Heidi was been a regular poster at TM for months (before Taylor drank a jug of Kool Aid), and I do not know her personally, but I can tell you she has been a passionate, dedicated, and resourceful Hillary activist. She has spearheaded many fund-raising efforts, and is always intelligent, kind, and fair. A great representative for Hillary and true democracy. Teaming up with Marc, they are a class A team.
One more note — may be Taylor Marsh could donate all the money Heidi Li raised for her back to Denver group — that is the least she can do for her current standing which is not a whiff of dissent for what happened in the primary to either Clinton or the democratic principles.

I had been unaware the Texas caucus system was instituted as a means to suppress the black vote. How was this intended to be carried out? I understand how the current system surely suppressed the voters in Senator Clinton’s demographics, given the disparity between final vote tallies in the primary there versus the caucus. I think if you could publicize that the caucuses were intended to produce such skewed results, this would make self-evident that the disproportional allocation of delegates based on caucus results is undemocratic.

I am very familiar with Heidi Li Feldman and Marc Rubin through blogging. I was very aware of what was being done to two very venerable Democrats - Hillary and Bill Clinton from the get go.
After the “selection” by RBC in living color and CC’s - I became physically ill from their criminal behavior which smacks of Rethugism, it became imparative for me to take action. I found Heidi Li’s blog and followed her leadership. She is a strong loyal Democrat who realized the pary morphed. She is level headed and a true patriot. I am a PUMA and a
“member” of The Denver Group - simply became what has been done will not stand! Our country deserves the best president possible - not the e - vilest of the lesser two!

Dear Friends, Thank you all for posting this great interview and keeping everyone informed. Has anyone noticed that Obama has been “put out to pasture” for this 4th of July? He couldn’t be further from main stream media unless they sent him to Barrow, AK! He was in Fargo,ND yesterday and Butte,MT parade today! I think Obama’s campaign wanted a weekend off from the retractions and they sent him where the press won’t roam. Butte has a great Hillary group, so the parade may not be as friendly as they expect. I’ll be hearing reports from my family. I’m sending them the interview. Happy 4th to All True Patriots! We are fighting for real Democracy!

The thing I feared most after the Florida/Michigan edict was that while people were angry and offended, they would soon yield to the pressure and fall in line with the DNC. It is so reassuring to see that my worst fears have not been realized. I cannot thank The Denver Group, Heidi L. and Marc enough for their efforts or Bud White for helping to spead the word. It is imparative that a bright light be shown on the corruption of the DNC. Even more important is that action be taken to undo the mess the party elite has done. Hope springs eternal!!
