Late on the evening of February 21, 2008, I was transformed. Alas, it’s been quite a while since I’d visited the site, “Is Barack Obama the Messiah?,” and I didn’t realize how much I’d missed. On February 21st, I discovered:
I’ve been touched by the “bluesman from Chicago.” I’ve been inspired by the “new synthetic mythology for a new kind of knowledge culture” which, the author writes, “may be the most powerful remobilization of historical and contemporary perspectives since the Popular Front movement of the 1930’s.”
Deeds and accomplishments — like hard work — are so yesterday. It is time to believe. Because, these great minds tell us, that is all we NEED TO DO!
You see, before tonight, I did not know this:
In many ways, [Obama's] language recalls that of Walt Whitman whose Leaves of Grass sought to develop a synthetic construction of what America was like as a nation, linking together a range of individual experiences, memories, perspectives, sense impressions, to create a vision of the nation as one big organism. . .
A GIANT ORGANISM! That’s what I’ve really been yearning for! And that was written by an M.I.T. professor (and that’s his photo, and he looks very intellectual!), so it must be true.
Today, I discovered all of this:
… followers willing to wait for hours on end to hear him speak have been crowding out huge concert halls and sports arenas to get a glimpse of their new progressive avatar and drive long distances to obtain the Obama darshan or to simply be in his presence. One can just imagine what the peace and flower-power concerts in the 60’s might have been like. Many even see in Obama a messiah-like figure, a great soul, and some affectionately call him Mahatma Obama. Clearly, people are hungry for a change and want an inspirational leader who can serve up some hearty ‘chicken soup for the soul’. …
Like the Mahatma [Gandhi], Obama is becoming a global symbol of the ‘hopes and dreams’ of millions around the world. Those who look up to the American ideals, consume American media, and dream American dreams are tuned into this historic election. While Gandhi marked the end of the colonial era, Obama with his multicultural background and upbringing represents the age of globalization. Obama is in an unprecedented historical position to not only be the first African American president, but the first ‘global president’ of America. Obama’s images on T-shirts, magazine covers, and TV screens around the world may be a harbinger of the next American century, if the American people are willing and able to lead it.

Eric Hoffer’s book The True Believer, which was on the summer reading list sent out by my university before my freshman year, and which we discussed in seminars during our first week at the university, had a powerful influence on me and left me wary the rest of my life of any mass movement.
I believe that, if Hoffer were alive today, he would be alarmed by the “authoritarian leftists” described so brilliantly by Steve Diamond, the Santa Clara law professor who writes for No Quarter. Professor Diamond has identified several “authoritarian leftists” who have been longtime associates of Barack Obama and have influenced his politics.
Beyond Professor Diamond’s examples of Bill Ayers and Mike Klonsky as “authoritarian leftists” are many of Obama’s followers — whose cult-like, thuggish behavior was witnessed by thousands at caucuses and rallies — and on the Internet at blogs such as Daily Kos. Amusingly, both the Obama followers and the “Kossacks” fancy themselves as protectors of free speech and civil liberties, and decry the conservatives and Republicans as “authoritarian.” Yet it is they who march in lockstep just as rigidly as any rightwinger ever has.
And it is these “authoritarian leftists” who approved of the most undemocratic behavior: swarming caucuses and overwhelming Democratic party staffers who were unable to or simply didn’t bother to verify that the Obama followers were registered voters in the precinct caucuses in which they were voting.
Beneath the rapturous adulation and self-righteousness of Barack Obama’s typical follower is an insecure human being who seeks rigid adherence to a group. The Wikipedia entry on Eric Hoffer’s views offers this interesting summary:
A core principle in the book is Hoffer’s insight that mass movements are interchangeable; he notes fanatical Nazis later becoming fanatical Communists, fanatical Communists later becoming fanatical anti-Communists, and Saul, persecutor of Christians, becoming Paul, a fanatical Christian himself. For the true believer the substance of the mass movement isn’t so important as that he or she is part of that movement.
This description helps to explain why so many Kossacks attacked the blog founder Markos (”Kos”) Moulitsas when he announced he was withholding his $2,300 donation to Obama’s presidential campaign because of his dismay with Obama’s backpedaling on FISA, public financing, and more. Kos titled his essay, “Rewarding good behavior.”
it is an oddity that a somewhat independently-minded person has attracted an audience that is drawn to cult-like adoration of certain politicians such as Barack Obama.
But, as any supporter of Hillary Clinton who dared write at Daily Kos can tell you, one was met with the most vicious attacks for questioning support for “The One.”
It is criminal — to my mind — that professors at MIT and others educated at elite educational institutions are promoting this mindless adulation with rhapsodic prose that, frankly, leaves me in a fit of giggles because it’s so over the top and nonsensical.
Thankfully, most Americans are not so easily enraptured by any politician, at least for long.
Let us hope that, before the end of August, enough Democratic party delegates to the national convention come to their senses and realize that the Obama mania is on the wane, and that a truly qualified and experienced candidate is required in order to defeat John McCain in November.

A few years ago when Amendment 2 was being hotly debated an interesting statistic was discovered. Areas with a high percentage of gun owners had a lower crime rate. And we all know that having a yappy little dog in the house redirects a burglar to the quite house next door so a street posted with “gun owner” signs would probably do more than a “neighborhood crime watch” sign would - unless there was picture of a gun displayed beneath the words.

Well, logically, the super delegates are people, too, and even his supporters are unhappy with him. It would not surprise me to see most people get tired of him. He is arrogant and he gets annoying pretty quickly if you don’t just focu on the hoopla, but listen to what he says, and denies, and clarifies, and stammers. It is not hard to see, Obama is nothing, but a joke!
There may be many SDs who are having buyers’ regret. They are not likely to go public as the DNC has been strong-arming all Clinton supporters.

My husband who is a financial planner/CPA has been reading a lot about George Soros and his PPPs. If you Google the public/private partnerships and Soros you can learn a lot about it. My husband’s theory as to why Soros is backing Obama (sorry it’s long):
Obama is backed by people whose interests are more closely aligned with revitalizing America through public/private partnerships which will allow Soros, cronies and customers to benefit from the privitization of America’s public assets.
For example, our crumbling infrastructure will become the poster child for what public/private partnerships can fix. Don’t worry about Obamites and their concentration camp threats against Clinton supporters but worry more about why zillionaires are backing such a vacuous candidate as Barack Obama.
Once Obama has the push of the “people” behind him, he will pick up the baton for rebuilding America and make himself look like an individual hero while he sells the future rights to our bridges and highways that will increasingly become tollways in the hands of private corporations who will suck away the capital needed to build the next round of infrastructure. This will effectively make us all “renters” of that which we once owned and our inept government officials at all levels will sit greedily at this table of plenty.
Just realize that in the long run we’re not paying ourselves for these improvements, we’re paying someone else. Soros will not be building concentration camps but will be bringing you steel and asphalt for the next 75 years and after that we’ll be lucky to have a country to call our own whether or not we vote about it. We’ll be stuck to the tit of private equity and government will become its whore.
This is not as scary or Orwellian as concentration camps and thought police but it is a far more practical and plausible outcome of this campaign, if it succeeds. Big money capitalists (Soros & company) are backing Obama because he has something they want. He looks like the people’s man and he can sell their stuff because he has their confidence. Just listen to him talk about pulling back from space.
The average voter that he is pulling in appears to be young, relatively naive, and usually a property-less urban liberal who thinks that the only evil is war for resources being fought by the neocons. It is hard for Obamites to imagine that their leader could really be a shill for those who want to capitalize the U.S. for private profits and they need a REAL non-patriot to let them in the door.
Obamites really have a problem seeing America as we do, as a sacred place that should be defended from foreign interests. They’ll be willing to sell out in a heartbeat if Obama says “yes, we can” and points at your local bridges and highways.
The bottom line is that it will divert attention to America and it will look like a positive change so it will be really easy to rally the public around the concept.
Don’t be worried about punk Obamites coming to your door. Be concerned instead about Barack and his backers fixing America for you on his watch with magic capital from private sources.

Except Soros is one of those names that conjures US realpolitik for me; he is widely accepted as being a driving force of the “rose revolution” and Caucasus oil intrigue schemes. There seems to be a knee-jerk response by some to LaRouche as being a “nut”, but I find his articles on Obama to be very credible and well researched. No one else, especially the MSM, are going to expose the Soros connection to the obama candidacy and how it is a major danger to America.

What Soros represents is NOT socialism. Socialism is an economic system, rarely practised in its pure form. Most countries today have some aspect of socialism. Basically, socialism means that the STATE owns some means of production of goods and services. For example, having public schools is socialistic. Having publicly funded police and fire departments is socialistic. These are accepted in the United States pretty much without a second thought. Some people will have a hissy fit, though, if one suggests that publicly funded medical care should be broadly implemented in the U.S.: “That’s socialized medicine!”.
If Soros is all about privatizing public assets, that is the OPPOSITE, essentially, of socialism and actually is what CAPITALISM purports in its purest form. Those who espouse an “ownership society” are for privatizing just about everything in the United States.
The true scam is that these ricos, billionaires and multi-millionaires, not only want their money, they want yours too, at no risk to themselves. They usually operate as corporations and go after the handful of people who control public monies at municipal, state, and federal levels. Some notable examples are water privatization and byway privatization (see the toll-road comment above).

You know this Soros connection is something I’ve been trying to understand for several weeks. There are 2 theories. One, like YO Nos that the Soros connection is financial quid pro type like Rezco on a much larger scale. Rezco was awarded public funds to build and manage basically public housing or housing for the poor. The idea that private companies would be better than the government. The other theory, as Harp suggests is much larger, gobal in fact as in One World Government. Soros and the Open Society. The philosophy that there is no “ultimate truth” that the truth would be found by each individual. I may have misread it but this philosophy seems to discount any institution, religion or government that proposed “the truth” to individuals. Anyway, when I read all this I wonder which is it? Financial manipulation for his own gain? Financial manipulation to create One World Government or Open Society? I think I’ll pick what’s behind door number 3
I would agree with you and posit that in fact each choice (HARPs and mine) is a step in achieving what’s behind door number 3. I’m just looking at the first phase of selling out to the hedge funds and European socialists. HARPS open society concept is more like the penultimate goal of global socialist/capitalists who want to hobble American might permanently.

I agree! Hillary did say “I see what is happening…” and she does, which is why she put herself through hell, so that obama would be exposed in ways he would never have been had she quit when they were all screaming for her to get out of the race.
Hillary is truly a patriot that history will recognize as a great heroine who inspired Americans to stand up and fight to take back their country from those who wish to destroy it.

I knew something wasn’t right about Obama, but just didn’t know much about him. When I watched the ABC debate and Stephanopolos brrought up Rezko, I looked it up and started reading the Chicago newspapers. Finally I could see what the problem was!

I feel that the Obamabots are Zombies from some movie I just saw. There is no past or concept of History and a blind faith and acceptance that whatever Obama wants is OK even if it destroys them.
Seattle I have never been a religious person. I believe in God and I believe in this country. There is a reason for the separation of Church and State so that people don’t blindly follow any leader who professes to know what God thinks.

What I fear folks is that our “votes” may not decide this thing. With the likes of ACORN, and the “vote early, vote often” Chicago machine and voting machines with no paper trail, our votes might not even be tallied.
That is my fear. Just look at what happened in the cacuasus, one day Hillary was up in the polls by 7% the next day he won by 36% in a state simialr in demographic as WV. So you tell me how are we really know if our votes are going to matter. It didn’t matter in the primaries.
My fondest wish would be to see a half-empty stadium. Of course, the media and his campaign will orchestrate it so that it looks like the stadium is full. If they have to, they’ll use old shots from a Broncos football game. I, for one, won’t be watching it, so the rest of you will have to tell me how it turns out.
