The Skinny on the Obamas’ Home Loan

We wrote several articles — here, here, and here — on reports last week about the favorable home loan that the Obamas received for the $1.6 milion mansion they couldn’t afford, but which the now-convicted Tony Rezko made possible. We pointed to the connections between Chicago’s Crown family, billionaire industrialists and constant Obama campaign financiers, and Northern Trust, the Obamas’ mortgage providers. Susan Crown sits on the board of Northern Trust. The Chicago Sun-Times’s Lynn Sweet lists James Crown and Paula Crown as among Obama’s top 2008 “bundlers” as well as major contributors to his 2004 Senate campaign. Family patriarch Lester Crown has served as president and chair of General Dynamics, and is listed in Forbes’ “World’s Richest People.”
Today’s “Obama’s Northern Trust connections” reveals that Barack Obama did indeed have a long relationship with his mortgage company, Northern Trust — which granted the Obamas a favorable mortgage in 2005.
When Obama served on the Woods Fund from 1993 to 2001, along with former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, both he and Ayers dealt with Northern Trust, which provided “financial services.” The Woods Fund used Northern Trust’s investment services, and — with Obama’s and Ayers’ votes — approved $105,583 in fees and also participated in a Northern Trust private equity fund.
The plot, as they say, “thickens”:
We have Barack Obama and Bill Ayers sitting on the same Woods Funds board which hired Northern Trust’s financial services and equity fund.
Bill Ayers is the son of another Chicago titan, Thomas Ayers, who was the head of Commonwealth Edison.
Thomas G. Ayers served on the Finance Committee of the General Dynamics Corp. board of directors with Lester Crown, the largest share holder. It just so happens that Northern Trust was the trustee of the corporation’s Salaried Savings Plan and the Hourly Savings Plan overseen by the Committee.
So we have long relationships between Thomas Ayers and Lester Crown, and between Barack Obama and Bill Ayers — all with Northern Trust.
Well, as all the MSM reporters concluded rather snappily last week, there’s nothing to see here. There can’t possibly be any connection between the favorable loan that the Obamas received in 2005 on that mansion they couldn’t afford and the mortgage company Northern Trust, with whom Obama and Ayers dealt between 1993 and 2001, let alone Ayers’ father’s connections to Northern Trust and to Lester Crown. So let’s all just move along.

Look at Zillow.com and see that Obama purchased his home for the same price the seller paid in 2000 no increase in sale price in 5 years in the hottest real estate market ever?
If someone has ability to run a title search on the property to see what the seller of property paid back in 2000 that would be interesting.
This is the second time I’ve read this conclusion. You have to remember the significance of Rezko’s participation. He, or his wife as proxy, bought the lot next door, which although not included in Obama’s deal, gave the seller a “profit” of $650,000.
Don’t lose track of the main issue. Rezko’s participation is what makes the deal work, and the absence of any documents reflecting that constitute intentionally falsifying a loan application. That is the CRIME they committed. This isn’t optional or a case of viewpoint. Its a crime.
You may not falsify or omit ANY pertinent information on a loan application.

Of course, if a mere civil servant did this, s/he would be headed to prison, like Obama pal and fellow slumlord Tony Rezko. But Obama is a politician, and a Chicago politician at that, so it’s OK.
By the way, I’ve never seen video footage of Obama touring his old state Senatorial district and taking reporters and camera crews inside of multimillion dollar “housing for the poor” that is now inhabitable and saying, “This is the record of accomplishment that should get me elected President.” Understandable. But why doesn’t the press ask questions independently? Or is it, perhaps, too complicated for them to understand, as well?

Barack Obama will accept the Democratic presidential nomination at Invesco Field at Mile High, a 76,000-seat stadium home to the Denver Broncos, the Democratic National Committee announced Monday.
The party’s convention will be held Aug. 25-28 at Denver’s Pepsi Center, which holds up to 21,000 people. Construction for the convention was beginning at the Pepsi Center Monday amid concerns about lagging fundraising and cost overruns.
Last month, the convention’s host committee reported it was nearly $12 million short of the $40.6 million it had pledged to raise for the effort. Host committee members spoke openly of needing the Obama campaign’s help to close the gap.
The decision to move Obama’s acceptance speech to the giant football stadium was expected to boost fundraising, convention organizer Jenny Backus said.
“Lots of conventions have had no connection to their host cities, but this one is really going to take advantage of being in a state that’s going to be an important general election battleground,” Backus said. “And what better way to kick off the fall campaign and get thousands of supporters and grass roots organizers all in one place to get fired up.”
With a heavy influx of younger voters and Hispanics in recent years, Colorado, once heavily Republican, is one of a handful of states in the mountain West that have been trending more Democratic. Both campaigns view it as a general-election swing state; Republican John McCain was kicking off a five-day economy-focused campaign swing in Denver Monday.
The Obama campaign made its own announcement about the new speech venue in a fundraising e-mail to supporters Monday.
“We’re going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we’ve opened it up throughout this campaign. Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his,” campaign manager David Plouffe wrote.
The campaign will choose 10 people who contribute at least $5 to the campaign between now and July 31 to fly to the convention and meet Obama backstage before the speech, Plouffe added.
Obama is known for drawing huge crowds to many of his speeches. In May, a record 75,000 jammed into a riverside park in Portland, Ore., to hear him speak shortly before that state’s primary.
Obama is scheduled to deliver his acceptance speech on Thursday, Aug. 28, the fourth and final night of the convention. It coincides with the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963.
The Illinois senator is running to be the first black president.
