A couple days ago at the gym, listening to a Hugh Hewitt podcast and perhaps not paying as much attention as I should have while pedaling away, I heard Hugh mention that Barack Obama doesn’t understand the role of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. What was Hugh referring to? As the British would say: the penny just dropped. A few minutes ago, CNN’s Situation Room played a clip of Obama saying this about his plan for Iraq:
BARACK OBAMA: I’m going to call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and give them a new mission, and that is to bring the war in Iraq to a close. We are going to get out.
There’s only one problem. The Joint Chiefs of Staff does not have operational command of U.S. military forces. That authority resides in the commanders of the various Unified Combatant Commands. CENTCOM is the command with responsibility for Iraq [and 26 other countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan]. Earlier this month, the Senate confirmed Pres. Bush’s appointment of Gen. David Petraeus as CENTCOM commander. Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno is the new US commander for Iraq, replacing Gen. Petraeus. Those are the people, along with the Secretary of Defense, to whom the orders Obama spoke of would be issued.

Chicago Tribune covered the Colorado July 2 speech including the “civilian national security force” without the histrionic claims of the WND hype.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle school and high school students.
For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students tied to that level of service.
Sounds like a remake of the “Young Communist” groups from back in the day. They were required to join or face punishment. What is in store for us if he is elected puts that in force and uses socialized medicine to do away with the elderly that are deemed not useful by the admin.
100 hours for 4000. - that’s 40.00 per hour for untrained service. Sounds like more government wasteful spending to me. How could you even accomplish anything with just 100 hours of service. It would take that long to train someone unless they would be filing or something menial - and if it was in a government agency - what access would they be allowed to have for just 100 hours of work.
Sounds bad. If this is a refundable credit- that is worth $40 an hour.
If it is a credit against tax liability- pretty useless because not many college students have a bottom line tax lability of $4000 after exemption and standard deduction.
That sounds blatantly unconstitutional to me. Sounds more like an occupying force to keep us all in line. The fathers of this country are turning over in their graves right now. We are on the fast track to becoming a totalitarian society instead of a society that relishes freedom and individuality. Obama is most certainly Bush’s 3rd term instead of McCain. Sounds like the Communist formula for the revolutionaries in Central America (1954ish to 1980’s)where citizens went on patrol- they were basically corrupt power rats and murderers.

I’ve been shocking the antiwar youth with this for months. Before Obama became the media darling there were journalists who wrote this up at length…. I saved the articles, if I can dig them up….one was by a very left-wing journalist, another was by a Colorado journalist. I think they were written in 2007, if anyone wants to dig them up before I do…sorry I can’t remember their names…

Obama lectures on the Constitution at a law school, he should know that he can not Constitutionally create “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” as our military and if he doesn’t, he needs a tutor because Article I, Section 8 clearly states that CONGRESS, and only CONGRESS has the authority to “raise and support Armies” and a “strong civilian national security force” is a euphemism for another army.
It also states that CONGRESS calls forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppressing Insurrections and repel Invasion. And Amendment 2 states that “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. ”
Look up the definition of “militia” - it is a citizen army not an SS “national security force”. The only way Obama can get his personal army is to flout the Constitution or persuade Congress to create one for him. So those down ticket votes are looking even more important right now.

Chicago Tribune covered the Colorado July 2 speech including the “civilian national security force” without the histrionic claims of the WND hype.

Obama had outlined many of the proposals offered Wednesday during appearances in Iowa last December.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle school and high school students.
For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students tied to that level of service.
Sounds like a remake of the “Young Communist” groups from back in the day. They were required to join or face punishment. What is in store for us if he is elected puts that in force and uses socialized medicine to do away with the elderly that are deemed not useful by the admin.
100 hours for 4000. - that’s 40.00 per hour for untrained service. Sounds like more government wasteful spending to me. How could you even accomplish anything with just 100 hours of service. It would take that long to train someone unless they would be filing or something menial - and if it was in a government agency - what access would they be allowed to have for just 100 hours of work.
Sounds bad. If this is a refundable credit- that is worth $40 an hour.
If it is a credit against tax liability- pretty useless because not many college students have a bottom line tax lability of $4000 after exemption and standard deduction.

Don’t mean to be having a tete a tete, but my mother-in-law was a member of the Hitler youth and there is a lot more to it then has been made public. I don’t know why it is not out there, but there were financial benefits that drew people to Hitler that never made it to the press. The youth were a lot like the Obama cultist to a degree, they were more of a social club, than a militant group as they are portrayed. You have to remember you are dealing with a lot bad memories for people and it is hard to get out the truth. It is shameful for many, in retrospect.

I saved the articles, if I can dig them up….one was by a very left-wing journalist, another was by a Colorado journalist. I think they were written in 2007, if anyone wants to dig them up before I do…sorry I can’t remember their names…

Obama lectures on the Constitution at a law school, he should know that he can not Constitutionally create “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” as our military and if he doesn’t, he needs a tutor because Article I, Section 8 clearly states that CONGRESS, and only CONGRESS has the authority to “raise and support Armies” and a “strong civilian national security force” is a euphemism for another army.
It also states that CONGRESS calls forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppressing Insurrections and repel Invasion. And Amendment 2 states that “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. ”
Look up the definition of “militia” - it is a citizen army not an
SS“national security force”. The only way Obama can get his personal army is to flout the Constitution or persuade Congress to create one for him. So those down ticket votes are looking even more important right now.Maybe his speak writers quit. They mixed up who bombed who.

Chicago is doing that all by itself. The place is a disaster. Crime is rampant, starting right at the top. The National Guard is getting ready to go there. Kids can’t even go to school without police escorts. People in Chicago are living in fear of crime. Poverty is horrendous. And Barack continues to prance and preen. He wants to make America just like Chicago. If he’s so great how come there are so many people in Illinois who hope he wins just so they don’t have to keep him themselves?

Of course it wasn’t typical. However crime does seem to be on the rise and it’s not just “the black areas” that are affected by it. If you want to believe all the crime is in “black areas” then you believe what you want to believe, but the statistics say otherwise.
