Politically Tone Deaf, Morally Bereft; The Cowardly Obama Campaign Strikes Again

The Obama campaign’s idea of political courage is to run it up a flagpole and see what they can get away with. Then when it doesn’t work, pretend they weren’t really trying to do it in the first place.

Not unlike a naughty child who just threw a water balloon at teacher and doesn’t want to get caught.

First we have the Obama Presidential Seal – i.e., Obama as Übermentsch. This blue hellaciousness was a grotesque lift of the real Presidential seal even though he is only the presumptuous nominee. Remember, he hasn’t yet ‘arrived’ at the Convention. How arrogant and how sad. To think he needs to stand behind a symbol like this to make himself “look” more presidential. You know, sort of like subliminal advertising in commercials and/or the ‘Vulcan mind-meld.’

Gee, Senator, how about doing your job once in a while? You know, like holding even one subcommittee meeting on Afghanistan these past 18 months, you know, since, umm, you are, like, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs. That might be kinda presidential. And our troops and our citizens might really appreciate it.

When his ‘logo’ was met with outrage and ridicule, suddenly it was ‘oh gee, this was only a one time deal, for a special event, we never really intended to use it.’ Right.

Then we have Obama deciding to give another one of his glorious speeches at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany. While I don’t usually find myself in agreement with Charles Krauthammer, his new opinion piece, The Audacity of Vanity, is spot on:

What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final “tear down this wall” liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.

When Chancellor Merkel kinda sorta told Obama that was not a good idea, the basic response was: ‘No worries, we were never really planning to do it anyway. We’ll just find some other powerful monument to stand in front of for our campaign backdrop.’

Senator Obama’s self-congratulatory European/Iraq tour is merely another marketing ploy designed to make him “look” more presidential – without ever actually having done anything that is Presidential. So just flying around a bunch of foreign countries is supposed to give him foreign policy street cred? Not unlike sitting in Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years was supposed to give him Chicago street cred? Got it.

Instead of doing his American Idol victory lap, dragging the three biggest news anchors in tow to worship at his feet, why doesn’t he consent to do a town hall meeting or two and face Senator McCain? You know – talk to the American people. Umm, yeah, like, the ones who he is supposed to be helping out of the morass we are in as a nation right now.

And now, the pièce de resistance. His treatment of Senator Max Cleland. I would say it is the latest of his blunders, but, sadly, there is a new one every day.

From Politico:

Former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland was an icon of Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 campaign, a badly wounded war hero who lost his seat, Kerry deplored, after a television advertising campaign questioned his commitment to national security.

But to the Obama campaign, Cleland has another qualification: Registered lobbyist.

So Cleland — despite his iconic status — was abruptly disinvited from appearing with Obama in Atlanta July 8, three sources familiar with the incident said.

“This was a hard decision regarding Senator Cleland,” said Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand, in an email. He cited Obama’s policy of banning lobbyists from participating in fundraising or giving money.

“If we make exceptions, we will open ourselves to criticism,” he said.

Cleland has told associates he was asked to appear at an Obama fundraising event in Atlanta on July 8, only to be told at the last minute that he wouldn’t be welcome.

The policy has been a key symbol of Obama’s outsider status, but many Democrats have also quietly questioned whether it goes too far when prominent party figures like Cleland, who an associate said has never actually lobbied in Washington, are left out in the cold on a technicality.

Cleland is registered to lobby for a company whose products are aimed at helping soldiers recover more quickly from battlefield injuries, Tissue Regeneration Technologies.

So let me get this straight. A man who is in a wheel chair, an icon of the Democratic party, who works to help wounded soldiers’ recovery when he himself lost three limbs in the war is told he is not welcome because – I must repeat this – if the Obama camp makes exceptions they will “open themselves to criticism”?

Hold fast my heart, Obama – you wouldn’t want to be criticized!! Horrors. Better to defecate on a man who almost died for his country, who served honorably in the Senate only to be swift boated in 2002. Now you – the standard bearer of the Democratic Party – tell him to get lost? Nice going, Senator.

Truly, this is among the worst of his idiotic, insensitive and cowardly behaviors. Once again, Senator Obama has proven there is no one person, no policy, no ideal, nor code of conduct he won’t throw under the bus for his own political gain or to cover his own shape-shifting persona.

For someone who is running on his great judgment, he seems to exercise none.

Senator Obama’s endless gaffes and misstatements, his blunders and the well of seemingly never ending arrogance are given grateful audience by his supporters and unfathomable political cover from mainstream news outlets and the Party powerful.

A good friend said to me today, a cruise ship is slow to turn. I’m still waiting for all those aboard this particular Titanic to change course.

The way they treat Cleleand should give us all pause. Purity in the Party is paramount. There will be no exceptions. The civilian national security force will make sure of that.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-07-19 13:29:08

Purity - only expected from the rest of us, never the Great BO.

I mean - it’s Cleland, for heaven’s sake….AND the group he is registered with is Tissue Regeneration Technologies.

Barack Obama is a dickweed…and I’ve only ever said that about two other people…Bush and Cheney.

Sigh.

Comment by Factcheck2 | 2008-07-19 13:52:11

The idea that Obama has not received ample help from lobbyists or taken special interest money is laughable. His entire candidacy was a creation of the oil companies, investment banks and corporate law firms that do most of the lobbying on Capitol Hill. Two of his biggest fundraisers have been oil company lobbyists. It’s too bad someone like Max Cleland doesn’t come out and expose this hypocrite. Here are the facts and sources, Mr. Cleland, to save you some time with the research.

I think the only true Honesty in news for Obama’s trip will come from the European Papers. Let’s hope the Bushes and MCcain’s have more friends over there in the newspaper businesses than Enemies,We Just Might Get a Positive Negative News releases on Obama’s Arrogance.More than I think we’ll get from our own Newspapers.

Comment by American Woman | 2008-07-20 10:14:58

I think we can count on Isreal to tell the truth. The article about Cleleland brought tears to my eyes…I love this unity in the party. I think thier real reason for not letting him appear is because he is a War Hero…and they don’t want to bring anymore Hero’s out that might upstage his lack of involement with our Militaries causes. This indeed should give every True Democrat pause. The idea that any Politician running for the highest office in the land doesn’t except any money from Lobbyest is absurde and insults the commone sense of the American People…

How can someone as arrogant, self centered and down right mean have gotten so far?

Could it be that he’s never really been tested in a real campaign? We know he’s managed to get his competition kicked off of the ballot.

Now he’s acting like he is the presumptive Prez — and that the convention is a mere time wasting event — he’s preparing for his coronation at a foot ball stadium.

Obama is just plain MEAN.

All of his followers deserve a weekend in the country, Kenya. Just don’t take your family to church there.

Obama’s paid staff=2000 people

The kingdom of Obama is larger than Bush’s currently whole White House staff!!! Can you imagine that?
…A paid staff of 2,000 is unheard of in the history of presidential elections. Consider that it’s five times larger than Bush’s campaign staff in 2004, which is the next biggest ever assembled. Indeed, Obama will have more people working on his campaign than President Bush currently has in the whole White House. …
H/T:Weekly Standard Blog

UPDATE: In addition Obama has 300 foreign policy advisors according to Herald Tribune. It goes on to say that,”300-person foreign policy campaign bureaucracy, organized like a mini State Department, to assist a candidate whose limited national security experience remains a concern to many voters…”

Comment by memyself&i | 2008-07-19 13:32:58

It depends on what you mean by “right”. It looks like what is right for Obama is what will get him elected, not what is right for this country and the American people. For 20 years, when he was trying to get his foot in the door of Chicago politics the right thing was “Wright”. Now Wright is wrong.

Comment by Lou | 2008-07-19 13:45:57

He’s posing as a Democrat just like he poses on every other issue. That’s why he projects onto us that we are Republicans…because he is? Looking at his district in Chicago, we see that he does not have a Democrat bone in his body. Anyone can call themselves a Democrat. Being one is very different than calling oneself a Democrat.
Cindy McCain has way more of a Democrat heart than Obama does.
I think we all see this phony Democrat plain as day.
This is the starting point of relieving some confusion of his actions. He wants to be just like Bush.

For the first time ever, and I never thought I would be saying this, I actually fear what would happen under an administration with him. I cannot in good conscious vote for a democrat this year because I just cannot believe what they are allowing to play out each day.

He proves daily why he should not be running for office. WTF? Are the Democrats TRYING to lose? This shit is unreal. Senator Obama cares about Senator Obama. This is like being awake in a nightmare. It was a VALIANT effort, but the PUMA PROTEST consists of voting for McCain if Hillary is not in the roll call vote in Denver. Slight variations thereof.

rethuglicans, independents and others may be chiming in, but HOW can you PROTEST without having been a DEM? It doesn’t even make sense. And if you are a Dem the PURPOSE of the protest is to get the Dems back on track with standing with the VOTERS.

We’re going to SUCCESSFULLY elect McCain if Hillary is defrauded. No one is going to successfully “destroy” the Dem party and trolls who wish to do so are BORING and should run along and poop up the Free Republic site instead.

Neither party is dead per se. It is only their current platforms that are dead. The Clinton Democrat platform is dead and the Reagan Republican platform is dead. The parties are experiencing another cycle.

The new Democratic platform is:

-the environment over the people (replaces the environment for the sake of the people)

i.e. Don’t drill in ANWR because it might hurt Caribou but force everyone to buy highly volatile fluorescent lightbulbs that contain deadly mercury.

-the world over America (replaces America and the world)

i.e. Obama argues that we should consume less so that the world likes us more

-winning over what is right (replaces winning by doing what is right)

i.e. Kick out the former Senator because you might get criticized.

-socialism/communism/radical populism (replaces moderate capitalism and corporate accountability)

i.e. Michelle’s “everyone has to give up a piece of their pie.”

The new Republican platform is:

-the people first and then the environment (replaces What is the environment?)

i.e. Drill for oil because Americans are hurting, but do it responsibly.

-America first, then the world (replaces America is the world)

i.e. That which is in American interests is paramount; however, the interests of our allies are important too.

-win through ideas (replaces win through smearing opponents)

i.e. Hold townhall meetings where people can ask question, not hold big rallies where people worship the rock star.

-capitalism with minor regulation (replaces laissez faire (who cares?) capitalism)

i.e. Use competition to spur economic development but hold corporations responsible for scamming the public.

As anyone can see, the new McCainian Republican party is more like the old Clintonian Democratic party but with stronger foreign policy and the new Obamian Democratic party is more like that of Central and South American populist states like Venezuela’s 21st century socialism but with more cultism and corruption.

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-07-19 14:39:28

The problem is, when you buy a product (say Tide) for years and then suddenly P&G puts cow dung in the bottle (or box), you still think you bought Tide till you wash your first few loads. Then you start to get the idea that maybe there’s something wrong with your washer or the water. Because you’ve been buying Tide for years and it always cleaned your clothes just fine. Why would they change it? We all liked it the way it was! Many people will change everything else involved before coming to the conclusion that their beloved Tide is now cow dung.

The brands are what is broken. I’ll never buy New Improved Democrat or Republican Lite. I need a new brand that I can be sure isn’t tainted.

I’m against drilling in ANWR. There is not enough oil there to merit it. There are billions of barrels along the OCS. There is the shale in CO. Our reserves are 97%. That buys us time to develop new energy solutions. But ANWR is more than just caribou and polar bears. It is protected by federal law initiated by Eisenhower and supported by Bill Clinton. Endangering plant and animal species that mat prove invaluable to the survival of the planet and the human race is not worth a few paltry barrels of oil.

A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.
Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.

BO is a no show. I would have booked that ASAP. BO is not the sharpest pencil in cup.

I absolutely agree. This isn’t about hate or even disgust over what the DNC did although I’m still mad as hell. It’s not about Hillary Clinton though I think she and other women have been treated abominably during the primary season. It’s all about what has Barack Obama done during his lifetime that has prepared him to take the reins of the world’s most powerful country? What sacrifice, what moment of decision, what accomplishment can anyone point to and say . . . oh, okay he’s qualified; now, I understand.

Photo-ops don’t count. Grand speeches do not qualify as prime preparation. The question remains: he can talk the talk but can he walk the walk? From what I’ve seen so far? No. I still do not know what this man’s core values are other than winning an election, anyway he can. I don’t like what we know of his past connections to Chicago and Axelrod makes me feel downright queasy. His gaffes and switches on policy issues mark him as the amatuer he truly is. His intelligence isn’t in question. I think he’s a very bright, possibly brilliant man. But you need more than IQ to be a good leader. You need more than charisma. You need a vision, not simply for yourself but for those you wish to lead.

I don’t see that in Barack Obama.

Everything I’ve seen and heard so far makes me think: fraud. Another puppet being offered up to the American public. He and his honchos will bow and scrape to every special interest group and add only more arrogance to the mix and leave more disillusionment in their wake.

This is not The One. This is another actor, who can’t get his lines straight. And the script? We should really be asking ourselves: who’s writing and directing it? And why the MSM is willing to give a standing ovation to every act.

We need someone who has proven he/she has worked very hard to accomplish something - not for himself but for others - without the work and accomplishment being public and praised. Obama has only worked for his own promotion, not for others, and certainly not anonimously.
And Axelrod = Rove. Exactly the same. Although, believe it not, I am beginning to almost listen to Rove on Fox. He sometimes makes good sense. :)

If I were Cleland, I’d call Obama a bigot for boycotting the handicapped…

In fact, I’m not Cleland and I’ll call him that anyway. This is the same man that didn’t want Muslim women in burkas seen in the camera shot at his event. Think maybe he doesn’t want to be seen with the “wrong type”? I do.

The selected one can’t possibly be bigoted or racist. After all, he is black (not).

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-07-19 14:41:46

Well, he is handicapped if you count Michelle

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-07-19 15:07:25

I don’t think we need to bring in his wife to discuss the problems with Obama. She is not running for president. What handicaps Obama is his inexperience, impatience, arrogance and probably a personality disorder (narcissist or sociopath). Despite all of these problems he is being propped up by the DNC, MSM and Netroots. If any of his crutches are removed he will fall.

Got it.

You nailed it Ani. Every credible report about Obama’s political history says the same thing: he does not like to work, but is happy to accept the glory for others’ efforts. He is a joke compared to the great leaders he mimics. MLK JR? Please. What has he done to sacrifice and risk his life that merits such adulation? People are so desperate for a savior that they are projecting all their “hopes and dreams” onto a highly undeserving marketing creation.

And the “unfathomable political cover from mainstream news outlets and the Party powerful” has been the main problem. The average American has no idea about who BO really is and only see the carefully crafted and protected image.

And the Cleland story is the height of hypocrisy. When is the media going to accurately report the source of his finances? When are they going to tell the American people that his “no special interest money” is a crock? Better to insult a genuine war hero (again) than tarnish that bright & shiny lie.

He thinks he is doing a victory lap before the race has even started.

Naturally, what other action could one take after being sent a sharply worded e-mail?

Gawd.

I think there’s a couple Nobama comments after that article but most of it is typical Obama cult spiel and personal attacks against PUMA.

Fowler;
The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t establish conditions to recognize the Boston Celtics as NBA Champions; Roger Federer did not demand concessions before recognizing that Rafael Nadal defeated him at Wimbledon.

Hey Fowler, did you notice that this is not a basketball game?

This is for POTUS. PUMA. I am not going to get behind anyone in lockstep ’cause you say so. And just because you had the audasity to tell me so, you can kiss the down ticket Dems ga’ bye.

“…stand with him to secure his election…”

Hey Donny, if you take my place under the bus I might vote for him…

Naw man, I’m just messin with ya. You can stand with BO on the “group W” line and get your birth certificate, ’cause BO is
