Yet Another Worrisome “Obamaism”: The Banking Committee Is “My Committee” [UPDATES]

UPDATES: Memeorandum.com is tracking the story; CNN’s Political Ticker and several blogs have reported Obama’s (to be polite) misstatement. The Chicago Tribune has picked up the story. I’m certain that MSNBC and Keith Olbermann will be alllllll over this too, especially since Keith constantly criticizes other news networks for not being “fair and balanced.” LATEST UPDATE:THE FINE LINE BETWEEN PANDERING AND LYING.”

(I used to say, “Imagine if Hillary had said this.” Now, I say, “Imagine if McCain had said this. It’d be reported at the top of every news show.”)
……………………………………………………

At today’s press conference, Barack Obama said that the U.S. Senate’s banking committee is his committee, which will surely come as a surprise to the chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committee, Christopher Dodd, an Obama sycophant.

Not only is the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs not HIS committee, Barack Obama is not even a member of the committee:

bankingcommittee2.jpg

Perhaps Senator Obama is having a “senior moment”? It’s reminiscent of his stating that there are 57 states in the U.S. Actually, I think that Obama probably doesn’t remember which committees he is on, given his dilatory, lackluster inattention to his duties on the committees on which he does serve. Shall we bring up his failure to hold a single hearing as Chair of the Subcommittee on European Affairs, which is part of the Senate’s Foreign Policy Committee? As Joseph Wilson wrote here:

As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on Europe, with jurisdiction over NATO, he has held not a single oversight meeting because, as he admitted, he was too busy running for president, even though NATO’s presence in the Afghanistan war is critical to success in that venture.

    – “Legitimate questions of judgment, experience” by Joseph Wilson, May 4, 2008

As the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee subcommittee on Europe, he has not chaired a single substantive oversight hearing, even though the breakdown in our relations with Europe and NATO is harming our operations in Afghanistan. Nor did he take a single official trip to Europe as chairman. This is the sum total of his actions in the most important responsibility he has had in the Senate. What are his actual experiences that reassure us that when the phone rings at 3 a.m. he will know what to do, which levers of power to pull, or which world leaders he can count on?

    – “Obama’s Shallow Credentials on National Security Are Dangerous for the Country” by Joseph Wilson

:::::::

Thanks to PPM for sending me the link to the video.

I find this appalling on many levels.

First, it is wholly inappropriate to refer to any committee as “MY” committee. It is not only ungentlemanly, it is egotistical.

Second, it is a flat-out lie that shows his utter lack of attention to his Senate duties in the VERY short time he has been a U.S. Senator.

Third, here is the list of committees on which Senator Obama theoretically serves.

In case you all are not aware, barky actually heads up every committee. It is only because of his extreme modesty that he ALLOWS others to take the credit.

Comment by Chicago Joe | 2008-07-23 14:59:42

He is so used to taking credit for the work of others, it comes naturally to him. But now that every word the Holy One utters is on tape, he will get caught. I heard him say that today and I had a mental hiccup….thinking I never heard he was on that committee. Thanks for catching yet another lie.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-07-23 15:21:55

Amazingly, he didn’t just slip in the word “my” (as in a slip of the tongue), he made a specific statement that it’s his committee.

This is truly outrageous. Where does this guy get off?

Comment by karen Anderson | 2008-07-23 16:13:35

It’s the same thing as when he said in the debates that he gave his 2002 anti-Iraq resolution speech when he was running in a “high stakes” campaign for U.S. Senate… (False, it was when he was running for a piddly state legislature seat in a highly liberal district.)

Of course the media never called him on it. Just let it slip by. Like so many other LIES he has told….

An alternative explanation is that he did just as much work on the banking committee as he did on the Foreign Relations committee.

I can only conclude that the voters of Illinois have got to be some of the dumbest, most gullible voters in the nation. This pathetic little man has absolutely no place being in Congress and certainly should never be allowed in any position involving the safety and wellbeing of this country.

Comment by JozefAL | 2008-07-23 16:44:17

Well, you can’t really blame the good people of Illinois that much. The Democratic primary for the US Senate race was pretty much gamed from the start so that Obama would become the Democratic nominee, while the GOP race turned into such a fiasco that the State’s GOP was forced to call in an outsider who would have actually been WORSE for not only Illinois but the US as a whole had the GOP won.
Yes, Obama has been less than astounding (one could argue he’s even less than mediocre) as a Senator, but I think that Senator Alan Keyes would have been even worse (and Keyes would have also made a run for the White House this year).

Comment by Diana | 2008-07-23 17:24:12

(facetious alert)Pfft

He is the King of the United States(A(O)bomination). Do you not understand how it is this kingdom works?

Let me explain it to you. As king he is in charge of the Military. Both the old and his new bright and shiny one. He loves his new one, however Raila is the CIC of it. All senators and congressmen are his employees. He will do the hiring. There will be no future elections for the people. No laws, bills, etc…will even be discussed without his express written approval. All taxes will be placed in a private account he sets up with only his name on it. To ensure no money is spent without his signature. He will have a team of accountants Abongo(Roy) will be in charge of to ensure we are not demanding or spending too much of his money. All discoveries Scientific and Medical are totally his to claim. He will cure every known disease. If you are not cured then YOU have no disease. Civilian employees will now oversee all past and future committees and he will be the one and only Chairman to approve or disapprove of any recommendations. We will no longer sing the Star Spangled Banner. We will now sing Barack Obama as sung by Stevie Wonder. We will now pledge Allegiance to King Obama (after all there would be no country without him). These rules are subject to change.

Now, Please get with the program people.
PS: He did pass laws to extend health care to our troops. That he was not listed shall be corrected; as well as all other gaffes. He’s now seeking a new publisher to correct all history books. Please do not correct him again on the 57 states. The flag will be changed to reflect that statement.

Comment by APISHAPA | 2008-07-23 20:48:25

In the next day or so, Barry will be issueing a statement that he signed the bill, and then he will probably attach a signing statement to it.

Exactly. Bankers are Ob’s base. Meanwhile, they’re guessing the costs to us of Freddie, et. al., and no one talks about investigating the billions Ob’s banking base “earned” at taxpayers expense. For instance, Indymac Bank has a parent company called Indymac Bancorp that has $32B in assets as of March 31, 2008. Aren’t any of those profits on the line? Instead, they want to spend the government into the ground and then tell us we don’t have Social Security.

bambi’s probably referring to waaaay back when, in another lifetime of his self-aggrandizing imagination.

Didn’t he say something the other day like, “When I was in the Senate…” Which just indicates how much he thinks he’s already president.

He thinks he’s president? He thinks he’s the head of Senate committees, yet he’s not even “in the Senate” anymore? He thinks he was a constitutional law professor - he thinks soooooooo many false things.

But, actually I don’t think bambi’s that delusional. He just thinks we are. Because he can tell any lie he wants about himself or anyone else with impunity - I mean, who’s gonna call him on it? The media? Bwaaaaaaaah!

They need to get a little guy to follow him around holding the laurel wreath over his head and saying, “Remember, thou art but a senator - that only temporarily.” The reality makers are still in office.

Where do the sense of entitlement and delusions of grandeur come from? Is a character defect or the side effect of some pharmacological support?

Sorry, but there just aren’t any more excuses (remember he is VERY smart and VERY well-educated - how could he not know what committees he serves on??).

He’s done this TOO many times…trying to take credit for something he DID NOT do (e.g., the surge, welfare reform, etc…)

ICK - NOBAMA - NO WAY!

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2008-07-23 16:55:47

I saw an interview with Jindal, I think it was on CNN, and they were basically asking that with all the gaffs McCain has made, doesn’t he agree that McCain is too senile to be president?

Obama has made some whoppers that can’t be written off as misspeaking. The one about 10,000 people being killed in Kansas when it was only 12 made me start to wonder about him. But this, he clearly states the committee belongs to him. It’s not a slip of the tongue. Yet the media mentions none of it and claims McCain is senile.

Comment by Dinocrat | 2008-07-23 20:50:29

Let them be rabid. I’ve said it a million times his supporters are his own worse enemies. They’re poison to his campaign.

Watch that poll next time it’s taken, it will go up again. People over there and AOL claims to have 21 million members, have taken notice of how Obama’s supporter talk to other people. They want nothing to do with it. How everything he does is right and he is a God now matter what it is. And how everyone else is wrong. Uneducated, stupid, blah, blah, blah. If you don’t agree you’re a racist and a bigot. Etc..etc.

I’ve watched that poll, when Hillary was in the race she was winning over both. What do the actual polls say now? But AOL was wrong people were emptying their cookies and voting for her over and over. Now they’re saying that about McCain. But, McCain has been steadily climbing over there as Obama has been dropping. It wasn’t “overnight” that McCain went up to I think I saw 66%. When Hillary first suspended her race it was 55 for Obama and 45 for McCain. Now look where it is…I think a lot of his decline since the MSM isn’t vetting him is his supporters. Most people do not want to belong to a cult. They prefer to be individuals.

Taking credit for things he’s had no part in, claiming superior judgment in foreign affairs when he needs a staff of 300 just to keep up, contradicting policies and programs that he “holds dear” [often referred to as spinning on a dime], petulant behavior when he’s questioned about statements or asked probing questions, and his unbelievable vagueness in all things decisive– provide us with a disturbing pattern.

This man is not ready for prime time, and the DNC has lost its mind.

This and the constant need to stutter and stammer when off script leads me to believe that Hussein Obama is a compulsive liar or a full blown con man.

GREAT CLIP YESTERDAY ON KSFO IN THE BAY AREA: Brian Sussman and his producer took Obama’s 25 Jordan press conference and then cut out all the chatter and was left with a full 7 1/2 minutes of non-stop “uuuuuhhh…..ahhhhhhh….ummmmmm…” SEVEN AND A HALF MINUTES OF BLATHER IN A 25 MINUTE PRESS CONFERENCE!

LETS KEEP THINGS FAIR AND BALANCED KIDS!
During a CBS interview on Tuesday, John McCain made a stone cold error on a subject about which he claims expert knowledge: the “surge” strategy in Iraq. In an interview with anchor Katie Couric, the Arizona Republican said, inaccurately, that the surge strategy was responsible for the much-touted “Anbar Awakening,” in which Sunni sheiks turned against Al Qaeda, helping in turn to reduce violence in the country.

From the transcript:

Katie Couric: Senator McCain, Senator Obama says, while the increased number of US troops contributed to increased security in Iraq, he also credits the Sunni awakening and the Shiite government going after militias. And says that there might have been improved security even without the surge. What’s your response to that?

McCain: I don’t know how you respond to something that is as– such a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that’s just a matter of history.

In fact, as Spencer Ackerman and Ilan Goldenberg have reported, the record firmly establishes the opposite: instead of being caused by the surge, the key signs of the Anbar Awakening occurred not only before that strategy was implemented, but before it was ever conceived.

Yet McCain’s error was not seen by any CBS Evening News viewers. As MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann noted (video below), “CBS curiously, to say the least, left it on the edit room floor. It aired Katie Couric’s question, but in response, it aired part of McCain’s answer to the other question instead.” (Ironically, this edit came on the same day that McCain’s campaign released a video mocking the media’s “love affair” with Obama.)

The fact remains, however, that the military official cited by McCain, then-Colonel Sean MacFarland, described the Anbar Awakening in September 2006 — four months before the “surge” was even announced — noting that tribal leaders were “stepping forward and cooperating with the Iraqi security forces against Al Qaeda.” Moreover, a military review written by MacFarland notes that his unit actually left Anbar before most of the surge troops arrived; his success in the region came between June 2006 and February 2007.
Especially notable is that McCain himself was not always confused as to the start date of the Awakening, and whether or not it was caused by the surge. Fresh off one of his much-touted trips to Iraq, McCain delivered remarks to the conservative American Enterprise Institute on January 5, 2007. Alongside fellow Senator Joe Lieberman, McCain specifically advocated for the newly proposed surge, and cited the already-in-progress turning of Sunni sheiks as a reason to send more troops. From the transcript of the event:

“Too often the light at the tunnel has turned out to be a train, but I really believe — I really believe that there’s a strong possibility that you may see a very substantial change in Anbar province due to this new changes in our relationships with the sheiks in the region. … But it’s important, as I said in my opening remarks, that this troop surge be significant and sustained. Otherwise, don’t do it.”

The gaffes are annoying, but the truth is he has now officially been introduced to the people of Europe and the Middle East (and the planet, generally) as the official Democratic candidate for President. All the chips are on Obama, and the smart money is unlikely to try to unhorse him in Denver. Even if Hillary somehow manages to take the nomination, she will be the candidate of a fractured, fatally-damaged party, running as the “2nd Choice” of a fickle constituency who bagged HER, embraced Obama, then publicly humiliated HIM at their own convention and went running back to the Arkansas Mafia for leftover leadership.

Rush will have a field day. The jokes will write themselves. And Hillary’s run will be an epic embarrassment, ending in defeat.

What are you even babbling about. Run away Lackey dog.

Runningdog, do you think Rush won’t have enough fodders for jokes if BO is the nominee? He is thin skinned about criticisms and his gaffs have come from a lack of knowledge and his blatant lies. And, do you think the Democratic Party is not already fractured beyond repair? He is hopeless naive if he thinks he can stop attacks by saying something is off limits, silliness or racist. He will lose in Nov., not because McCain is brillant, he isn’t. He will lose because he is out of his league and the Republicans know how to play nasty. Hillary may not be able to pull the nomination from him, but if she does, she will win in Nov., he won’t.

Oh “kellie”, this must be so sad for you…the internal struggle of staying strong and committed to him no matter how many times he proves himself nothing like what you thought he was or who he told you he was.

Anyway, LET’S TAKE THIS VIRAL! Off to post on my site and link back here! lol

Honey McCain doesn’t lie and flip flop every time he opens his mouth. Your candidate is pathological.

That’s why we are throwing the “Barky Bum” out in Denver and installing Hillary. She’ll win in November and peace will reign in the valley. Catch up Kellie. Pay attention, there is going to be a big test.

As I recall, news of Hillary’s comment about “sniper fire” ran for over a week in the MSM (MSNBC, CNN, FOX, everywhere). That was called a lie wasn’t it? Kellie, what do you call this comment from Obama? I really want to know if you consider this a lie or did he just misspeak again? Or, maybe he can deflect everyone from it by calling us racists for hearing him wrong. We’ll see how long this one runs in the MSM, if at all.

Its a matter of nuaince not being mistaken. The article suggests itself that the awaking happened before the surge. McCain implies that with the surge, they were able to coordinate with the them to help being violence down. The two worked in conjunction with each other.

Do you get it now, or do you need some classes in reading comprehension?

She’s just trying desperately to get everyone to write in Hillary instead of pulling the lever - or - pushing the button - for McCain.
It’s the new Bot psy-op tactic.

This is too funny. First the Hillary voters were supposed to get over it, fall in line and vote for the Anointed One. Now it seems there’s too much resistance from the PUMA crowd, so now the strategy is: Write in Hillary.

“Don’t vote for McCain, cause he’s y’know, OLD, and and, he has that THING on the side of his face, and he’s like, umm… OLD!

ewwww….ICKY!”

Over at the Confluence, they were out in droves this morning.

They were still in “You’re all Republicans! Die, die!” mode then.

I can’t vote McCain, but I respect peoples’ choices and opinions about the candidates. Too bad the bots are busy blaming Hillary voters for their candidate’s weaknesses.

The post about the cheatas was pretty good on confluence. But of course PUMAS RULE.

COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

PUMA RULES

Do you know what is truly funny? When the Bot psy-ops teams trot out the same objections against Senator McCain that were used against him by the extreme right wing of his own party!

When the trolls start on their anti-McCain rants I sense the ghost of Ann Coulter…
