Jumped The Shark

I will make this short - WTH?!?! Someone clearly put the screws to Planned Parenthood, especially given the number of assholic comments Obama has made recently. You know the ones: “women being blue,” and “Mental distress” don’t qualify as health of the mother, all of those incredibly offensive comments he has made recently. Never mind his consistently sexist arrogance to women. But Planned Parenthood comes out NOW to endorse him?? You have got to be freakin’ kidding me!! Why the heck did they not endorse CLINTON months ago?!?!?! Here’s their email announcement. The link is enabled if you really want to waste your time hearing Obama claim just how much he cares about women’s health:

Dear Amy,

…Planned Parenthood Action Fund took a step closer to putting a pro-choice president in the White House by officially endorsing Senator Barack Obama for president.

As a committed supporter of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, you have a crucial role to play in making sure our next president is dedicated to improving health care for all women, men, and families. That’s why I wanted you to be the first to know about our endorsement.

Senator Obama joined Planned Parenthood Action Fund members for a conference call to accept our endorsement. Click here to watch my video announcement of the endorsement, and to hear Senator Obama’s message to Planned Parenthood Action Fund supporters.

This is a historic moment for our organization — it is only the second time in our long history that we have endorsed a candidate for president. We are confident that Senator Obama will be a strong leader and advocate for women’s health, and, with your help, we will focus all of our efforts in the next four months on getting him elected.

Here’s what you can do right now to help:

Watch my brief video endorsement. Then, forward it to everyone you know who cares about the future of women’s health care in America.

Join the One Million Strong Campaign to support pro-choice candidates, pass laws and policies that support women’s health, defeat anti-choice ballot measures, and turn out one million pro-choice voters in November 2008! (If you’ve already signed up, thank you! And please click here to urge your friends and family to join the campaign.)

Make a donation to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Anti-choice organizations will be putting everything they’ve got into this election. We need all the support we can get to match their efforts and to help pro-choice voters get to the polls in November.
Recent polling shows that Planned Parenthood is among the most trusted sources of health care services and information in the country. This election season, voters will be looking to us for answers on the candidates and where they stand on the most important issues. We will make a big difference this election just by telling voters the truth about Senator Obama’s strong pro-choice and pro-women’s health record — and by turning out one million pro-choice voters in November.

You can help us make it happen. Click here to watch the videos and get started now.

Over the next four months, I’ll be keeping you updated on what we’re doing to secure a woman’s right to reproductive choice and to elect Senator Obama, and also letting you know how you can help. Thank you in advance for everything you do this election season.

Sincerely,

Cecile Richards, President
Planned Parenthood Action Fund

…………………………………………………

Just in case you are wondering, not only did I not give them any more money (and never WILL), but demanded they remove me from their email and paper mail lists.

This is another group for which I have lost ALL respect. Frankly, Ms. Richards should be ashamed of herself for selling women out, because that is just what she did.

I can understand not wanting to endorse McCain, but they didn’t HAVE to endorse anyone!!! And to do so now, after Obama’s offensive comments??? Very, very telling - and what it says ain’t good!!

Ok the FIRST Thing that came to my mind was the song in my head it’s the end of the world as we know it!

So then I thought (oo how about plug the tune a href style to go along)

as I scanned I found this little GEM.

It starts out with the song but goes into this fascinating little history lesson! About OIL

Oh, perfect!! Yeah - honestly, I would like to have the Dixie Chicks, “I’m Not Ready To Make Nice” going just abt all the time! :-)

If you are the same Dawnelle who called into the NQR show last night, you were great! (And I’m originally from NC, myself…)

Hey! YES twas moi! (chuckle)

It took me a spell to get up the nerve to call in.

That song by the CHICKS is my FAVORITE!

I’m not sure WHEN I’ll ever be ready. :-/

You made some very good points and asked good questions - DC Media Girl’s guest sure seemed to enjoy you! He didn’t want you to get off the phone!!

I know - I think it is awesome. Maybe I should just put up their video once a week.

There’s another great song by a singer out of Georgia, Michelle Malone, entitled, “Down,” and it is abt how the men are running the country into the ground (and you gotta admit - two few women in the Congess to make much if a difference). I’m hoping she’ll come out with it on YouTube…

KEWL! I’ll look for it!

here’s an update at the local poll here - fyi - I’m getting some double voting and one person even voted 4 times. LOL jez some people!

So I’m closing it down tonight. Any suggestions for a new one I’m up for any suggestions.

I just have this free program (bravenet) that I use and would love to offer it up to PUMAs for fun or what ever! Kay? My treat!

Otherwise I’ll just keep coming up with my own curious questions

thanks to those who play along! :-)

Leading Dem women Senators in Congress are a dirty joke - call them Stepford Senators in my blog. Went on CNN with happy face smiles, denying sexism in the campaign, pandering for baby bama votes - by stealing Hillary’s Senate campaign slogan “checklist for change” Then adding Women’s Checklist for Change - while stealing Hillary’s Pres platform for women.

As if this do as little as possible Congress could ever pass one sane, fully constructive meaningful bill if it was put on their desks, done, with a pen. To claim they’ll implement Hillary’s plan and to NOT even acknowledge it was hers to begin with!

Yeah, that’s the Stepford women in Congress.

Me neither. I’ll never be ready to vote Obama or accept these current jokers as the leaders of the Democratic Party.

I wonder what will be the reaction if Obama picks the pro-life governor of Virginia as his running mate??

Comment by katmandu | 2008-07-26 17:49:04

Or he could pick Bob Casey, the anti-abortion Senator from Pa., who heavily backed him in the Pa. primary. (I don’t like the pro-life terminology.)

Kaine, by the way, is on the outs with some of the big Dem bloggers in Virginia. I live in VA and Kaine has been a huge disappointment. Here’s one of the most widely read blogs in N. Va. which even the Post reporters admit reading.

Here’s the rub. Planned Parenthood may have been told — “look, Obama is likely to be president, and if you don’t support him you can kiss any federal grant money goodbye.”

Why do you think Obama wants faith-based initiatives? It’s a political tool. And he’s a corrupt hack who would do something like that.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-07-26 18:07:03

I agree with the whole language thing - I am NOT pro-abortion - I am pro-CHOICE.

We lived in VA when Mark Warner was governor, and I think everyone had high hopes for Kaine when he won, too. Sorry to hear that is not working out so well.

Oh, yeah - Bob Casey - what a choice THAT would be. At least it would be more honest than the Republican woman they are touting today…

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 18:24:42

I think the most clear and accurate language to describe the two positions are “pro-legalized abortion” and “anti-legalized abortion”. That’s what we are talking about. The law. Nobody particularly cares (in a political debate) what an individual’s views on abortion are, but rather what are his/her views regarding the applicable laws. Pro-life and pro-choice are both equally flawed by failing to honestly communicate a position on the true issue at hand. They are marketing slogans.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-07-26 18:50:22

Wrong Ted….It is anti-female or pro-female. When Women are assigned lesser status under the Law. It is about EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 19:20:46

Sure, but that has nothing to do with abortion. Men can’t get pregnent, so these laws exclusively impact women (directly) by definition. As I mentioned below, own your position. I do. I am strongly in favor of keeping abortion a legal option for all women in all 50 states.

Comment by Linda K | 2008-07-27 02:58:53

Exactly Workingclass artist, pro-female or anti-female. You need a little more understanding of the issue.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-07-26 18:53:42

Anchovy.

No one is “pro-abortion”. They might be pro-choice or pro-privacy but never pro-abortion. That implies forcing, which isn’t the case.

Next troll, please.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 19:16:22

please re-read my comment. I said “pro-abortion” is a flawed term.

Call it what you will, but RvW is about abortion. The fight is to keep abortion legal. I am a strong supporter of keeping abortion legal. And I am honest enough to state it in those terms, not “pro-women” or “pro-privacy” or “pro-choice”. Don’t be deensive. Own your position. Be willing to say you stand for keeping abortion legal.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-07-26 19:21:26

I am not a woman and will not assume anything about pregnancy. For me it is a privacy issue because it is none of my business (or yours for that matter). I can neither state it is acceptable nor unacceptable. I choose my words carefully so that no mistake is made. As for owning a position: I do-it is none of my business.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 19:34:37

That’s fine. But understand there are people who are trying to make abortion illegal. So if you can’t get in the fight and help to keep it legal, well you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Comment by J. J.. (The P.U.M.A.) | 2008-07-26 20:15:41

All of this discussion makes me think that in the end that most women Hillary supporters are going to hold their noses and vote for “The Chosen One”.

There is, after all, a clear difference between the two remaining presidential candidates on abortion.

Maybe those of us Democrats who want to stop Obama in ‘08 and elect Hillary in ‘12, should forget the feminists and concentrate our efforts on our bitter brothers and sisters who are clinging to their bibles and guns, and don’t write in blogs.

If any of you out there are committed to voting for McCain, notwithstanding the abortion issue, I’d like to hear from you.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-07-26 20:23:05

For the last time, Roe v Wade will not be overturned. It is established law, your hyperventilation notwithstanding. This is a wedge issue which has no meaning for a majority of Americans who are worried about their very future. You may as well bring up the race issue while you’re at it and check off all your talking points on the Anointed One’s little list. This election is about competency and experience. Obama has neither and would be even worse than the current occupant of the WH.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 20:41:49

“Established law” WTF? One more conservative Supreme Court member and that law is gone. Everyone not in complete demial knows that.

Comment by granny | 2008-07-26 19:24:56

I agree that pro-life is not good terminology for that get-in-other-people’s-business ideology. Especially when you realize that most of the anti-choice people are for the death penalty and not the least concerned with the “collateral damage” caused by bombing other people’s cities. And supposedly conservatives think that less gov. is best gov. yet they want the gov. involved in the most private and personal of all decisions.

Anti-choice vs pro-choice. I think most folks are not actually FOR abortion, but hold the same opinion as Hillary: it should be Safe, Legal and Rare. Oh, yes. Those Anti-Choice people are also against birth control in general. Many of the “pro-life” people are against invitro fertilization.

Comment by Patti | 2008-07-26 22:24:47

Probably. I felt like I was being brainwashed by a brainwashed believer. e.g. see the video…

I was having baby girls back when Planned Parenthood was in diapers. It’s a totally different thing. Our Bodies, Ourselves was printed on a few sheets a paper with a staple on the corner.

The Walking, Talking Mighty Bank Vault has spoken. No doubt.

Just absolutely dazed and confused.

With all the money I’m saving not donating to what used to be my party, as well as my favorite causes and candidates, I have enough to fill that tank again and again with no problem!

Thanks, Planned Parenthood–I CAN afford to take that cross-country jaunt to see family in the midwest now, thanks to you and Howard Dean!

Does anyone know how to contact Planned Parenthood, main corporate office…email, phone, fax etc?
to voice displeasure and to inform them of intentions to no longer financially support such a ridiculous travesty of what was once a wonderful organization.
I guess they took a cue from the assholes at NARAL.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-07-26 17:58:15

If you do, don’t forget to mention that Margaret Sanger would not be pleased. She went to jail to get birth control for women and the organization she founded just sold her out.

She fought the Comstock Laws until they were overturned in spite of hardship, harassment and threats just so Cecile Roberts could endorse the sexist Obama! If ghosts do exist I hope Sanger haunts Roberts tonight and maybe we should just deluge her with Sanger’s books - each one an accusation.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 18:31:09

Yep. NARAL has rated McCain 0 for the last six years, and Obama 100 the past 3 for their votes on abaortion rights. But they are assholes for not endorsing McCain over Obama because Hillary lost the primary.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 19:30:49

Understand that if Obama loses, McCain wins. And PP has a very strong desire to not see a pres with views so strongly opposed to their position. So McCain does matter.

People and organizations who really care about issues consider the entire situation. It’s not just about Obama. It’s also about McCain. The difference between the two is so wide, PP is very eager to see Obama win. Now if somehow it was Obama vs Hillary for pres, ten there is no way pp endorses either, because there is not a significant difference between them, and PP usually does not endorse for president. But in this case there is a huge difference, and PP is not going to jeopardize all of their work because PUMAs get offended whenever anyone endorses Obama. Real work in the real world trying to solve real problems goes on.

Comment by Postmaster | 2008-07-26 19:43:23

Real work in the real world? Trying to solve real problems goes on?

ROFLMAO. Obama never did an honest day’s work in his life. He is just a black Dubya, all braying and no chores.

And stop the crap about endorsement–PP screwed the pooch on this one.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 20:33:52

Still misreading my comments I see.

I suppose EMILY’S List also has made a mistake by supporting Obama and pointing out the huge differences between him and McCsin.

The Big Three (NARAL, PP, EMILY’s List) all see a huge difference between Obama and McCain, with Obama being the obvious better choice. But PUMAs are willing to ignore that.

Don’t get me wrong, if you believe McCain is better than Obama on other issues and that overshadows their positions on these issues, that’s fine. But understand that focused interest groups are just that. Focused on their issues. And you can’t expect them to go against their agenda.

Comment by J. J.. (The P.U.M.A.) | 2008-07-26 20:25:43

Ted, in his own obnoxious way brings up a good point. Why wouldn’t NARAL endorse Obama? They are an interest group for one particular issue.

But we as voters have to weigh that issue against all the other issues in deciding who to vote for.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 20:47:36

Absolutely. I wrote the same thing above. I have never suggested someone should not vote for McCain; I have merely pointed out that to do so will have a clear negative impact on the issues that are the topic of this thread. So don’t get all hot and bothered that the special interest groups that focus on these issues endorse Obama.

McCain rated zero last six years by NARAL. Obama rated 100 last three years. This is based on voting records, not hurt feelings. So when people get up in arms that PP endorses Obama and not McCain, it can’t be for any logical reason. And that’s just a fact.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-07-26 18:39:14

Comment by Indiana Dem | 2008-07-26 18:51:30

Of course they should have endorsed Obama.

Planned Parenthood is, by definition, a special interest group, narrowly focused on the issues of women’s reproductive rights and health. They’re comparing McCain and Obama only in that narrow context. That’s what special interest groups do.

The extent to which Planned Parenthood’s position should influence any particular female voter is entirely a matter of how important those particular issues are to that particular female voter. I’m a guy, so it’s not my place to say. But I’ll throw out some facts if provoked by misinformation.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-07-26 18:58:00

No misinformation in my post. I said no one here ever said that McCain should be endorsed and that is a fact. Here is another fact: I will cease to support any group that endorses Obama, the Pretender-period.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 19:09:55

Well, there are only two choices if they are going to endorse. I guess your point is they should not endorse anyone, even though the two candidates represent absolute extreme opposites on the issues PP is concerned about.

Well, the fact of the matter is Obama is the candidate, and the rest of the world is not going to stop doing what they do and advancing the causes they advance because of PUMA. That’s my point.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-07-26 19:58:05

This democrat of 32 years will vote against each and every elected official in my district/state who supported or endorsed that hollow gasbag. I will go out of my way to encourage others to do the same. The first evidence used will be all the posted hogwash against HRC. We’ll be using your own words against you Obamabots and trolls. My suggestion is that you keep it up–the more ammunition we have, the better.

Comment by J. J.. (The P.U.M.A.) | 2008-07-26 20:32:19

Must disagree here. We should support Democrats down-ticket, period.

For example:

If the Democrats control the Senate by big majorities, President McCain will not be able to get a conservative Supreme Court nominee approved. McCain with a solid Democratic majority will have to govern as a moderate.

Comment by Ted | 2008-07-26 20:10:33

Obama is the presumed nominee. Hillary has endorsed him. It is unrealistic to expect organizations that are not centered on denying the reality of the democratic nominee to postpone their endorsements until after the convention. The bulk of the political world has moved on. Organizations that support Obama want to influence the remaining undecided voters and not wait. That’s just the way it is.

Odd thing: He also used to say, “Once you get to a certain age you realize what you knew is best left behind.”

My grandad survived a camp and he taught him that. I never knew that little bit of information would one day make sense. I never realized what he really meant till now.

Basically, once you live long enough -as Stevie Nicks still sings- “The Glamour Fades.” So much for idealism and politics.

Why don’t intelligent people see???

Comment by Linda K | 2008-07-27 03:38:27

I agree. To shrink the focus to simply being pro or anti choice narrows and disparages a multitude of issues which are as important as that one. For me (a lifelong Democrat and feminist) the misogyny and sexism and name calling and attacks are one thing; another is Barry’s judgment in his choice of those with whom he associates (including his wife), the other is his attitude in thinking he is already the president (or prime minister of Great Britain) and then there is the lack of experience, and his lies…the list goes on and on. Is he a Democrat? Who cares? He can start his own little party for all I care. I’m not voting for him no matter who endorses him. And as time goes by I doubt I’m going to be voting for many other Democrats down ticket, except a very small number.

Someone “biblical” correct me.

IN Revelations isn’t there a description by JOHN was it? Depicting a Lion, some kind of eagle and some other animal or creature sitting around the Anti Christ? And something about a really bad woman (or was that symbolic of a City?)

Or was that Nostradamus?

Comment by JohninCA | 2008-07-26 16:44:46

I believe you’re referring to the Whore of Babylon depicted in Apocalypse XVII.

The image of a man, an ox, a lion and an eagle (in the prophet Ezekiel) is a type or image of the four evangelists.

maybe it was a PUMA?

;-) I’m just sayin

(hey thank you for the help) :-)

‘Bad woman’ I think, is the ‘Whore of Babylon.’
The other beasties represent foreign powers, two of which are, by biblical geography, Gog and Magog who are Russia and Iran (who, interestingly enough just signed a mutual defense pact.)
I’ll have to find my Bible to refer to anything else.
(geez.. that last part sounded kinda bad)

Hmmm….In Bible Belt Central….The Whore of Babylon is often deemed the RCC. As a recalcitrant member of the RCC….I always found this kinda funny unless I am way outnumbered…The Mormons have the arrival location for Tap Dancin’ Jesus…I think it’s either Missouri or Utah.

Comment by SensibleWomanNOTforBO | 2008-07-26 17:07:58

I *think* there’s a Mormon temple(?) in Independence, MO where the arrival is expected.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-07-26 17:16:03

Ever been to Independence?
No offense to the ‘Show Me’ state, but if God were to ever give America an enema…
Trust LDS to pick the most wonderful, scenic, temperate, sea-breeze filled, …. WHOA!

Comment by SensibleWomanNOTforBO | 2008-07-26 18:36:22

Ever been to Independence?

*giggle* Well, it IS the “Show Me” state. Just be careful what you ask to be shown. ;-)

My fundie relatives interpret the “Queen of the South” in Revelations to be the Catholic Church. I always found that hilarious! Guess those Catholics are not Christians, eh?

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-07-26 18:43:13

Yes…I am a recalcitrant member of said Whore of Babylon Cult….
Funny how the Evangelicals who ID us as such tend to forget about all those interesting gospels….many of which are stored deep within the Vatican Vaults….Who knows what they say ?

PLANNED PARENTHOOD = PLANNED MURDERHOOD

Over 50 million deliberately murdered children, that didn’t have a say to their RIGHT to life…Adolph Hitler couldn’t have planned it better!

Dude, you’re on the wrong website. And unless you’ve got a set of ovaries, shut the hell up.

Right ON Sista Strawberry

I’m tired of playing nice nice with both sides Dawnelle, this shit stops now. Both democrats and republicans need their taints towel snapped. As women, we can’t afford to let men decide what we do with our bodies. And if it comes down getting in their faces, so be it.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-07-26 16:58:38

Straw,
Your stance is not in question here. Please, however, remember that Barry plans even worse for us all. We are still in a conflict which may kill our country and regardless of how far a head is up an ass, if it votes against Barry, it helps us all.
I know, me preaching restraint comes off as a little odd,
but whether it does or not, we must kill these dragons based on the degree of threat they present and its nature of immediacy.
Barry is the greatest threat to us all that I’ve ever seen.
Roe v. Wade is still on the books and ain’t going anywhere even if McCain wins.

Trust me Zeke, this is going to be the most difficult vote I have ever cast. I’ve never voted for a republican in my life and I’m still trying to find a way of weaseling out in November. But I’m one of those unfortunate folks who lives in a blue state so I may have to vote for Mccain just to ensure Barky and his minions go down. After what I saw as a delegate at a Washington state caucus and the way the DNC just rolled over, I must protest and the only way I can get them to hear me is by cutting off the cash and by voting against Barky. Otherwise nothing will change and BOTH SIDES will continue the race to the bottem. I’m hoping this will shake up politics as we know it.

Thanks Straw,
I know how hard this is but please understand that it takes true character to stand on a principle when the reason to do so has so many add-on conflicts.
The scum that are manipulating this probably went to some of the same dirty trick classes I attended during my time in Special Forces (John Wayne’s era.)
Splitting off factions in an organization is one of the more basic tactics in subversion. Divide and conquer is well preached by Mao in his Little Red Book and Ayers owns an original copy.
By the OT way, Seattle Moss and I are going to take in an M’s game when they come back. Would you and yours come too? NWRain, you too. And any other NW PUMA’s. Lets meet each other for a little fun and companionship. Maybe we’ll even do a photo op at the park. If we can be Four of us, we can write P U M A on some shirts and get a little press!

Man I’d love to, but I’ve got to babysit hubby. I really could use a beer filled break. But since getting back, large crowds freak him out. He won’t go anywhere without me and I worry about leaving him home alone. Being ex SF I’m sure you understand. How long did it take you to adjust to real life? And do you still do the superfreak from time to time?
