The big dust-up over the New Yorker cover revealed that many people just don’t “get” satire and its purpose, and many of the comments following Baker’s brilliant article just further reinforce that revelation. Some Obama supporters actually think this is a glowing recognition of their guy’s “unique” political gifts.

Baker is not skewering the media’s unrealistic perception and shameless promotion of Obama as much as he is ridiculing the man’s exalted opinion of himself, and the Messianic mindset of his blindly devoted followers.
