McCain ‘Gallups’ Forward, Obama Slips On His Behind
By Ani on July 28, 2008 at 7:25 PM in Barack Obama, Current Affairs, George Bush, George Stephanopoulos, Hillary Clinton, John McCain
Wow! How interesting to read about gains for McCain in the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain moved from being behind by 6 points among “likely” voters a month ago to a 4-point lead over Democrat Barack Obama among that group in the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll.
The Friday-Sunday poll, mostly conducted as Obama was returning from his much-publicized overseas trip and released just this hour, shows McCain now ahead 49%-45% among voters that Gallup believes are most likely to go to the polls in November. In late June, he was behind among likely voters, 50%-44%.
Go, McCranky! Not bad for a guy without much of a platform, without much enthusiasm from the conservatives of his own party, and one who really hasn’t even bothered to start campaigning against Obama yet. This is truly shocking since Senator McCain can barely get press coverage, never mind the absolute love-fest the networks festoon upon the newbie Senator from Illinois.
Ooh, Barack must be supercalifragilisticexpialidociously pissed off! I mean, he wowed ‘em in Berlin, even having Gerhard Sporl of Der Spiegel’s foreign desk declaring an Obama presidency all but a foregone conclusion.
And those crowds! Thousands and thousands came out to see him! Well they got a free rock concert and food, but hey, I’m sure they enjoyed the speech, too. Why not? He made ‘em all out to be heroes! And they also got to buy buttons with Barack in lederhosen holding a bunch of beer steins. How could you beat it?
President Sarkozy in France was oozing smiles and charm - do you think he got a little tingle up his leg, too, a la Chris Matthews?
I must say, if I were Barack Obama, traveling around Europe with the three biggest news anchors in tow, not having to answer a single hardball question (no offense to your tingle, Chris), having people fawning over me constantly, only to come home and find out my Republican opponent - you know, the one representing the ‘brand’ damaged beyond recognition - had climbed ahead of me in the polls, I would find this very disheartening indeed.
Perhaps he should think about taking David Axelrod out behind the barn. You know, like some newscaster thought they should do to Hillary.
Perhaps the folks at home were a little irritated with Senator Obama for acting like a rock star, spending lots of time doing photo ops, with his new airplane logo twenty times the size of the American flag. He also overstepped the bounds of his ‘fact-finding mission.’ We may dislike - even abhor - President Bush, but he is still the President. Obama is not yet the official Democratic nominee and it is not his place to negotiate anything, much less waltz around pretending he has already been elected.
He must be trying to infect the world with his wishful thinking.
Perhaps the folks at home were a little irritated that he has not taken time to address some of the serious problems we are facing back here on the economy, health care, gas prices, not to mention his ever changing positions on the Iraq war.
Perhaps some of them noticed that, ever the work horse, Senator Clinton, was right back out there working to protect women’s rights, Medicare and address the energy crisis - and that’s just in the past two weeks. That lady actually looks out for the American people.
Lastly, perhaps the American people took notice of the fact that Senator Obama could not be bothered to visit wounded troops on his overseas visit, as John McCain noted in his interview on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Obama clearly could have done so, if he was willing to attend without his press corps. Senator Obama: not everything needs to be a photo op. Those troops sure would have liked to meet you.
Now that Senator Obama has returned stateside, without much of a ‘bounce’ – his campaign is already trying to spin this fact positively - how long do you think he can avoid a town hall meeting with McCain? I would venture to say this behavior is going to drop him in the polls even further. People can kind of feel when you’re avoiding them.
I know the Republicans haven’t come out with much ammunition against him yet. But let’s be realistic, you know they’re laying low ’cause they’re still afraid of Hillary at the Convention. Right? They know if she’s the nominee, they are toast. So they’re gonna play possum through August 29th.
But after Labor Day - let the games begin!!
If Senator Obama is performing this poorly in the polls with his huge financial and press advantage and rock star treatment, I wonder what will happen when he actually has to face Senator McCain.
Wishful thinking aside, this is one race he is not going to win unopposed.

Unreal
Yikes! He is so scary. I want Hillary as our Democratic Nominee! Go PUMA!
The influence is clear. Look at the light, position, angle of the text and texture.
THIS needs to go viral. I knew there was something creepy about that poster.
AGREED!
Then there was that German WW2 Recruiting Poster with those very shades of blue as well–you put the two together, and you’ve got the Berlin Lalapalooza 08 poster….
Glad someone dug up that one…LOL..Thanks for posting the link Angry Michelle…
Ok Women over 40 we have now been named the deciding vote this election
Posted on July 28th, 2008 by kmr1964
Tonight on Hannity & Combs, Dick Morris had fox do a poll to see which demographics were falling where and why Obama is not leading in the polls. Well it seem that women over 40 (which is me lol) are going to McCain by 4 points. This is a groups that is supposed to be democratic by 10 to 15 points. Women over 40 usually go democratic by large margins but not this year. It seems that this is the year of the mature woman. Keep up the work PUMA. We are making a change, we are making a difference. For the first time McCain took the lead in the Gallop polling.
Obama 45 McCain 49 McCain +4 This is just amazing in every other election the democrat has always been ahead by large margins even in elections that the democrat lost they were always ahead during the summer, but not this year. Obama is in deep s**t. We are a voice that needs to be heard and needs to be listened to, we will not be silenced this year.
USA Today/Gallup 07/25 - 07/27 791 LV 45 49 McCain +4.0
Has Morris figured out in that small brain of his why O won’t get the mature women to vote for him? Did he seem confused by the fact we aren’t falling in line and does he understand there is no way in hell Obama can undo the damage? To quote the Rev. Wright, “The chickens have come home to roost” Mr. Obama. Thanks to you BO, your campaign, Ms. Brazil, Mr. Dean et al, I no longer have a Party who cares about my vote or represents my values.
This is cause nobody can vote for a SEXIST PIG! Discrimination is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!!!!! Discrimination should not ever be acceptable. It damages the Democracy!
The Messiah is going down along with his whacked out supporters.
BREAKING NEWS!!!
From Dick(the Dick) Morris
Obama looses the election if he can’t win the women over 40 vote.
Ha Ha trolls!!!
The Messiah doesn’t need our votes. He thinks he can win against McCain without us with the help of all those Berliners attending his free concert and food.
We’re just not impressed with beer and hot dogs.
and I am so excited even at over 40 I am cartwheeling all over the blog…
Better be careful don’t need a trip to ER with a sore hip….
CELEBRATE 40 AND UP GIRLS!!
and just a reminder we out do men 2-1 over 40 LOL theres more of us !!
HILL YEA!
Hillary or McCain 08
I hope the DNC takes a look at the FOX poll and understands who is going to bring them to their knees. Rise Hillary. Rise.
Great imagery. I know the feeling, too!
Yep, McCain leads Obama in a single poll. Of 600 voters (once “likely” filters are applied). Let’s pretend Obama doesn’t lead in every other poll, and just focus on this one. Watch for Ras tracking tomorrow. I’ll never post here again if McCain leads in that one.
If you actually care about polls, visit pollster.com to see aggregate poll analsis. To say the least, Obama is doing pretty well. On the other hand, whenever Obama is ahead, polls don’t matter…
You have to be kidding. You know as well as I do (and as well as everyone at the DNC) that Obama always overpolls.
Never mind that the media is in the tank for him. I remember very clearly how he would poll way ahead and a number of states turned out a little differently to say the least.
Console yourself however you want. The fact is he should not be polling anywhere NEAR this close to McCain with the Republican brand as crappy as it is supposed to be right now. Even the pundits admit that he should be breaking away and he is not.
Even Chris Matthews believes BO’s numbers are overstated.
You mean the ALBINO BISHOP….has DOUBTS….( GASP ! )
I am SHOCKED….I tell you I am SHOCKED !
Hmmm. I guess the thrill went down his leg a ways.
I have never understood the “he should be polling this way or that way” argument. Should according to what? According to who? He is ahead, which is better than being behind. Since he leads McCain by about 30 points among voters who are strongly committed, to their candidate, I think McCain might be the one who should be worried about election day.
In any event, polls are just a snap-shot. Things might change. But to cherry-pick the single poll that has had McCain in the lead for about a month is not being overly honest about the whole thing.
I won’t even respond to the adjective ’strongly committed.’
By your statement you obviously are new to politics.
I have studied in great detail campaigns going back 35 years and Obama should be way ahead.
Every election is decided by the Reagan/Clinton democrats.
This year you can also add the over 40 women vote and many others who rightfully feel robbed and violated by the democrat thuggery.
Amen.
The issue of the excitement level for a candidate tells only half the story Ted. I am part of the 86% of McCain voters who are not excited about him. But I am extremely motivated to vote against Obama.
Or, if you watch the pundits on TV, you would think today is still Sunday. they are all still reporting Obama’s 9 point Gallup lead from Sunday even though today’s Gallup number is 8 for registered voters. Rassmusen has Obama up only 3 among likely voters and the USA Today /Gallup poll showing McCain up by 4 amony likely voters isn’t even mentioned.
People lie to human pollsters. Especially ones that fear being called a racist just because their ethnicity differs from the candidate they oppose.
Harold Ford found that out. And he ran a great campaign, didn’t make mistakes. They had to get dirty to beat him, suggesting he was playboy who banged sleazy looking blondes.
With Obama, all he has to do is keep fucking up. He does it to himself.
sleazy looking blondes. ???
Hey now!! They are under the bus too!
It’s not their fault.
Well, Ted. It will be just a huge bonus in more ways than one then, won’t it? I don’t usually have a lot of problems with trolls because I have enough confidence in my judgement to be at peace with the logic of my decision, but you can be tiresome. Do you have a point spread in mind for Ras. Tracking Poll? It must be difficult for you. No matter how much he spends, how many rock concerts his campaign pays for, where he goes and who he meets, he just can’t get enough traction for you to really pop the cork on the champagne bottle. I don’t put my confidence in polls. I made a living analysing the results of surveys (though not political polls) and I understand “the fudge factor”, mistakes in collection and number juggling. The only problem I see here, you are too willing to gloat over those unreliable numbers when it suits your purpose. The only polls that matter will be in August in Denver and the vote in Nov. As my mama used to say, “Pride goeth before a fall and a haughty spirit before destruction”.
Nice job, Elisa.
I’m an educated liberal male and guess what, he ain’t popping the cork on my champagne bottle either.
Now Hillary, that’s another story. She’s the one who makes sense. I want to go to the polls in November and vote for someone for a change — not ‘against’ the other guy.
Elise.
lololol!
How can Ted console himself?
“Doing pretty well” against McCranky because SOME polls show a FEEBLE single digit lead for the Rock Star Obama?
Talk about lack of prowess. Ted, the guy who can barely keep it up is more pathetic than a completely impotent one. Ugh!
you’re right; the polls are b.s. right now, especially the ones that show obama leading. the latest (rasmussen?) poll from south dakota (where i live) showed mccain only up by 4 points. i’ve got news for you; mccain will win this state by at least 20 points, and if you think otherwise, it’s time to put down the kool-aide.
Dick Morris (sad to quote) on Hannity and Estrich (Dukakis campaign manager filling in for Colmes) just blamed the older women (over 40), the Hillary voters, for Obama not doing better against McCain in the polls.
He says it comes down to “Women Over 40″ in this election.
This comes from Morris, a man who was terminated by President Clinton, after what was found in connection with Dick? (and women under 40)?
It’s heartening to hear even Dick Morris have to credit (or blame) Hillary for Obama not doing better.
I have always thought that Morris had a mental problem in his hate of the Clintons. In fact I have turned him off the moment he opened his month. I used to never watch Fox for their Clinton hate.
I guess it’s a new day
Everything is upside down
The enemies of my enemies are my new friends.
Having said all that.
Obama also has problems with all us Guys over 40 that voted for the best qualified candidate since FDR.
I think Dick is well a dick. Everything Pres. Clinton did good, it was Dick’s idea. Everything Pres. Clinton did wrong, Dick warned him against. I wish he was not on FOX so much, I usually change the channel when he comes on.
But I did see him tonight and his poll is not surprising, others have said this for awhile. Dick will say he is the first to discover that women over 40 don’t like Obama.
Susan Estrich loved when he reported his findings.
I think Susan is really a PUMA.
I feel the same as both of you - I usually switch Dick off, but Susan added a new dimension. Now to see the Gerard Baker video again! On Fox now - what a hoot!
Oh she is sooo a PUMA. She was the first female editor of the law review at Harvard long before Barky was the first black(ish) editor. And she wrote her way on. With him it was a popularity contest.
Hope there’s many more guys like you that use your head, thanks for being on board.
Fox was excelletn tonite, maybe someone could post the conversation with Dick Morris. Also not sure if it was on Oreilly or Hannity, but something was mentioned about some Democrats are looking at this in a negative fashion, and some are wondering if a win could happen in November for the Democrats. Not sure who said it,but it was something to that effect.
I disagree with all of you on Dick Morris. Although there is bad blood there, I think he does give an honest assessment of the strategies by different campaigns, and when he talks, I listen.
Of course you have a right to your opinion AnnieO….I happen to think that Morris is GIANT TURD BLOSSOM with an OBVIOUS INFERIORITY COMPLEX and a thingy for FEET….But Hey! that’s just me….chuckle….
Honest assessment or not, you have to admit that the lisping, former wonder-boy has a pathological dislike for the Clintons!
It’s common knowledge thatHillary distrusted him from the beginning and he has been using his position at Fox to wreak his revenge upon her. There’s gleam in his beady little eyes every time he disparages her.
When Morris talks, I laugh. He gave toe sucking, an otherwise honorable pasttime, a bad name.
But I think he is right on this one. If white women over 40 don’t come home to the Democrats, Obama will lose.
True…But why give Morris GENIUS POINTS for stating the obvious…HUH ?
What an utterly weak and ridiculous candidate — Bush & Co. have run the country into the toilet and yet Barack Obama is tanking.
So many of us saw this nonsense from the start.
This was the year of the woman president.
Dean & Co. ignored th passions of women and men who saw in Hillary a president on the same level as FDR.
They trampled on that moment..
Now it’s our turn!!
The democrat party and thugs they have supported need to be destroyed by the true base of the party and never again should the women and moderates of the democrat party be ignored.
One very good thing came out of the primaries. Hillary totally came out from the shadows of Bill and is now a political force in her own right. I for one gained more respect for her as the campaign went on. One very strong woman.
That is an excellent point. And spot on. She did step out of his shadow in a huge way. The Best part is she felt it and knew it. Around the time of the Ohio primary, you could see her hit her stride and really enjoy campaigning in a way she never had before.
No matter what happens, she will become more powerful in the future.
Annagain, She began to glow after Ohio and why not? She was fighting a huge media bias and the DNC and whether or not she will be the winner in Denver, she is the winner. She ran circles around Obama the last three months of the campaign and earned the loyalty. Her last speech was the most powerful I have ever heard in the political arena and the media ignored it just like the press ignored the Gettysburg Address so many years ago.
He will never be a man compared to the woman in Hillary….
Absolutely right.
It saddens me that there are many in the media intelligent enough to know better but they simply don’t care that they are tossing out the best candidate.
With the mess this country is in, how can anybody think Obama is the right choice?
American Idol ain’t gonna get the job done.
Where is that idiot sf.
Lets hear your lame comeback now!
I am one of those women over 40, and Dick Morris (I hate to admit) is absolutely correct. I will not vote for Obama under any circumstances.
I have been doing my own little survey of friends and families, and we old gals agree = NO OBAMA
First, we were pussies, then we were Cougars. Now we’re PUMA’s.
NOBAMA. NO Way!
PUMA!
I’m also over 40 and NOBAMA!

Were the ones they have been waiting for…
HILL YEA…
Will be 56 in October and definitely NOBAMA.
PUMA!
A must read in the WT by moive actor, Jon Voight: ” My Concerns For AMerica”
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jul/28/voight/
Demcorats really created a mess this election. Hillary would have been a stronger candidate.
GUESS HE WON’T BE ALLOWED TO VISIT THE TWINS….( sigh )
ha! good one! Seriously though…don’t think for a moment that Jolie is a rabid supporter of Obama. Of all the Hollywood power brokers (and none may broker the power of she and her betrothed) they remain tactfully silent on this issue and for that they are to be commended! Plus, with the news that they just named Bono as god-father for the twins, methinks that there are somewhat centrist leanings alive in the Jolie-Pitt household!!!
Take care,
Patrick
OBAMA SUPPORTERS FORCE HOSTMONSTER TO SHUT DOWN BLOG AGAIN - FASCISTS SUPPRESS FREE SPEECH
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the “Barack Obama’s US of A”
I will end this post with a thought, if what I have said is untrue, then why is it that every blog and web site I have had has been attacked and the servers pressured into shutting them down? Why has so much time, effort and money been put into threatening, attacking me and my family? Why is it that Barack Obama does not have the guts to say I am lying?
http://larrysinclairbarackobama.wordpress.com/
Wehre there’s smoke, there’s fire.
I like Michelle O’Angry.
I can’t believe they did this to the man again. The obamabots are scared to death of Larry Sinclair because Larry Sinclair is telling the truth about their golden boy and they will do anything, absolutely ANYTHING to silence him.
Get the word out that obamabots have harassed Sinclair to the point of death threats not only against him, but against his family, friends and people who support/believe him. These people are dangerous just like their cult leader obama is.
Larry Sinclair DESERVES to be HEARD and we DESERVE to hear the TRUTH about obama’s deeds, drug use and other actions he does not want made public.
“If wealthy nations want their assistance programs to be effective, they should look to the women who form the backbone of every society. With some education, training, basic rights and empowerment, women will transform a society — and the world.”
http://online.wsj.com/ article_pr…4007588395.html
Read this article. She’s speaking my language. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’ve wanted desperately for Obama and the Democrats to say something like this, but they never do.
http://online.wsj.com/article_print/SB121720134007588395.html
Wow….thanks for posting this.
Great article!
did you hear the story about his Afghanistan trip? when he got down the chopper with Gen. Petraeus, they were met with sniper fire! They ran with their heads down!
At least Hillary visited the wounded in Bosnia.
More on barkys birth.
http://www.liberalrapture.com
Jeez, this just keeps morphing into an embarrassment of a candidacy. If only those idiots at the N Y Times would print a correction of the Berlin crowd size (20,000, not 200,000) the ball might get rolling in the MSM of Obamadoubts. Keep up the fight all!!!! Its not too late! We must keep up the pressure!
Obama should have made his speech in Africa, free food and beer would have gone a long way there. I guess these are images Axelrod doesn’t want.
Morris studied the polls in detail. He actually said women over 40 will decide this election.
I know Puma is made up of much more than women over 40, but that is how they are classifying us.
Yay Puma - we are going to pick our next President!
Payback is a b…. isn’t Obama and all your cultists.
Male. 60. P.U.M.A.
NoBama
Yeah. PUMA is a large coalition of voters–women, men, blue collar workers, Hispanics, Asian, and even a percentage of African Americans. But glad to hear that the over 40 crowd will be the determining factor in the GE.
Payback is a b…. isn’t it Obama and all your cultists.
(sorry typo)
Great article, Ani!
PUMA is making a difference, all. Obama’s losing the women over 40 vote by 4 points.
We are doing it! Yes we will!
The Democratic Party really thinks we’ll come around though.
They don’t understand…it’s not about Hillary any more.
*61 has ignored and even insulted us.
Something that I really hope bites him is when he said he’d have Hillary’s voters but he didn’t know if she’d have his.
Then they said they didn’t need us. They do.
Then we learned more that scares us about this man and turning our country over to him.
No Deal! PUMA!
Months ago — sometime in 07 Obama made it clear that he didn’t want the trouble makers of the 60s and 70s — the feminists.
Well feminists aren’t just older women — many of us have husbands and families who have seen the misogynistic Obama campaign in action. We have a generation of seeing competent women like Clinton, making a difference.
Obama has also made it clear that he has class and racial stereotypes (besides gender stereotypes) — he has been none too diplomatic about showing his dislike and avoidance for whole groups of voters.
He has never had a message of inclusiveness — so why should we give him our vote or support his campaign — what is in it for US — all Americans?
As women we have seen his sort of arrogance so many times — and these guys never do turn out well. Most have a horrible temper and and can be abusive. Obama was abusive towards women in his campaign — when he insulted Clinton he insulted ALL women. Even thought the girls don’t understand we feminists are rejecting Obama — for the next generations.
Obama isn’t fresh and new — we’ve seen his arrogance before. Obama represents the sort of change when the guy picks up a dirty shirt from the back of a chair and “change” it for the dirty shirt he is wearing. The shirt is still dirty — but he changed it
PUMA
Wow. That about sums it up, NW Rain. We have seen this arrogance before and it never leads to anything good.
The average voter usually can see through it as well. That’s why the elitist types the DNC tends to lurv to nominate never win — and it is precisely why Bill Clinton DID win, and why Hillary WILL win, if only the SDs would be sensible enough to nominate her at the Convention.
The news is around that Tim Kaine is on Obama’s short-short list. some important progressives have turned on Kaine in Virginia. Obama is in for a surprise if he picks Kaine. Kaine is against embryonic stem cell research, (he’s a devout Catholic), pro-coal, and he favored abolishing Virginia’s estate tax (which gave the rich a great tax break), etc. Here’s an example of a diary at an important VA progressive blog. http://www.raisingkaine.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=15132 And here’s another — http://notlarrysabato.typepad.com/doh/2008/07/100-days-away-t.html In fact, the Raising Kaine blog was so mad at Kaine that they dropped his name from the blog title (retaining the URL because it is so popular).
My opinion — Kaine will not pick him up any female votes.
Why vote Kaine when you can have the real deal with McCain
Especially since he isn’t connected to Obama or the DNC
Lets hope he picks Kaine. It will make it easier to keep the pro-choice women from drifting back to Obama in the fall.
Hear why Michelle Obama did not go on the trip?
She demanded that the food in Berlin consist of Tofu Sausages, organic pizza and Green Tea. She was told no way, no one would come if that were the case, so she got pissed and stayed home.
Tofu makes germans puke
Michelle does as well
Oh so that’s why tofu makes me ill!!
Mrs. Obama makes me ill as well.
Hey! I like tofu–but dislike Michelle Obama and her hubby. Nobama!
