Deep Thoughts for the Day

Obama handed out “change burgers” at a BBQ rally in Missouri yesterday.
         - “Road-Trip Reports: McCain In Colo., Obama In Mo.,” NPR Morning Edition

“But, while much has been made of John McCain’s struggles with his party’s conservative base, 33% of the uncommitted voters are Democrats while only 19% are Republicans.”
         - Rasmussen Reports

GET THIS MAN A TELEPROMPTER!
”Barack Obama is a lot like Sean Penn or George Clooney. If you give him a script, he can deliver it pretty well. But if he tries to talk without a script that has been written for him by others, he quickly reveals that he is poorly-informed if not downright ignorant. Today he delivered another classic, by claiming that if only we would all properly inflate our tires, we could save as much gasoline as “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.” Seriously: … ”
         - Read all.

Perhaps the deepest thought is below:

“GOP’s celeb-Obama message gains traction — Barack Obama’s critics laid down the foundations of the strategy months ago: The Republican National Committee started the ‘Audacity Watch’ back in April, and Karl Rove later fueled the attack by describing the first-term Illinois senator as ‘coolly arrogant’.”
         - Politico

:::::::

Whatever the thought, the conclusion is that it’s “amateur hour” these days on the Democratic side.

What a shame, given the rich field of candidates we began with, most of whom had far stronger resumes and real experience in international politics — not just photo ops.

I agree totally Susan. And the worse thing is that when he makes these stupid statements, he says them with such arrogance that people actually think he knows what he’s talking about.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-07-31 09:46:20

Yes.

Give me Joe Biden. Give me Chris Dodd. Give me Hillary Clinton. Even Dennis Kucinich has real beliefs and real experience. (I’ve had to cancel out Bill Richardson because his gaffes are just too embarrassing and I’ve decided he’s somewhat inflated the importance of the items he lists on his resume, but he does have real experience.)

Had I known how viciously the DNC would treat Hillary Clinton, I might have concurrently pressed for the nomination of Biden or Dodd. At least, then, if the DNC had still gamed the primaries to screw Hillary, we’d have ended up with a qualified candidate.

Dodd’s a jerk. He screwed HRC over.

What about Dodd’s once strong stand on FISA?

Now he’s backing back stabber Barack and taking loans Country wide!

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-07-31 18:01:27

Dodd sucks. I live in a state bordering CT. He sucks. That’s why Lieberman got back in so easily-running as an Independent after telling the DNC to kiss his a$$ for trying to steal his seat. CT would have been screwed with only Dodd. They knew it and Dodd knows it.

Comment by Andy | 2008-07-31 13:39:25

Don’t like Dodd or Biden much…although they are good comapred to Obama; at leats they would make responsible presidents.

BTW, Jeralyn@TL feels so strongly against Biden that she wrote recently that should Biden be the VP she would not support the ticket…
I think having BO at the top of it is disqualifying just by itself !!

Comment by mahaska | 2008-07-31 16:21:53

I don’t trust Joe Biden.

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-07-31 18:13:54

Biden’s a loser. How many times has Joe tried to be the Dem Nominee for President? He’s a loser and Dems hate losers. That’s why Hillary must maintain her “winner” status. She got 18 million votes. She has a winning coalition. She has the states needed to get to 270 electoral votes. She’s the winner in 2008 and she WILL be the winner in 2012. The winner doesn’t accept being the VP of a loser and no way will a winner allow a convention ballot intentionally rigged for her to lose. Hillary is the winner and don’t anyone forget it!

Yes, and he has no compunction about stealing boldly in the light of day, from Hillary Clinton’s speech on The Stop Excessive Energy Speculation Act.

“by claiming that if only we would all properly inflate our tires, we could save as much gasoline as “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I73prA_eplc

of course, he could have gotten that information from one of his advisors… but from his history of lifting freely from Hillary Clinton’s policies, I’d say he is FOS and stealing freely this line from Hillary.

Comment by lizpolaris | 2008-07-31 13:33:02

If you listen to the speech, that’s not what Hillary Clinton says.

I believe what you are referring to is said after minute 6 in the video. She quotes Sen Cantrell, who says that the equivalent amount of oil per day could be saved by increasing the pressure in the tires of the vehicles that we drive.

What exactly was Sen Cantrell referring to? I’m not sure but he didn’t say (and she didn’t say) that the equivalent amount of oil could be saved by keeping our tires properly inflated. It could be that the Senator was referring to some type of tire which functions more efficiently under greater pressure. Or it could be that its been found we could follow guidelines for inflating our existing tires to greater pressure than is currently the standard which would help. Or something else…

Oblahma threw Ludacris under the bus so quick they never even slowed down. It must’ve been a bloody site. Wonder what the hip-hop crowd thinks of this diss???

Comment by wry | 2008-07-31 10:17:37

To me Barky didn’t throw Ludacris under the bus forcefully enough. He had his un hip white campaign manager do it, so he can privately tell ludacris “you know I’m just playing with you”. I want sh*#head to come out and tell ludacris to take it off the radio. Otherwise Barky is being too cute. He gets the benefit of using the song as an anthem to rally a group that traditionally never votes, yet he can tell the white public he denounced the lyrics.
The “paint the white house black” crowd will understand that Barky is doing exactly what Wright predicted he would do…”he’s a politician…he’ll do what politicians do” with a wink.

Comment by tzada | 2008-07-31 11:06:22

He probably told them in private…”just messin wit ya” Like he told his Palestine Chicago pals. “I can acknowledge you, after I win the election”…or words to that effect. Ludacris isn’t helping his candidate,
Lyrics like that aren’t apt to win any state,
Profanity, hatred and histrionics
Linked with his particular kind of ebonics
May snatch defeat from impending victory’s jaws
And threaten electoral disaster because
Voters will remember as November draws near
And tell the White House, make ready: McCain will be here.

Comment by stateofdisbelief | 2008-07-31 09:54:13

McCain will have to wait. We still have not given up on getting the best qualified candidate - Hillary - nominated.

Comment by Diana | 2008-07-31 10:32:36

Why is Hillary not going to be at the convention until the second night, and then only to deliver a speech?

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama is offering Hillary Clinton a prime-time speaking slot the second night of the Democratic National Convention, her ex-campaign boss said Monday.

Clinton will address the convention - and the nation - “probably Tuesday night,” Clinton moneyman and confidant Terry McAuliffe told MSNBC.
http://tinyurl.com/699nte

McAuliffe was not supposed to reveal Clinton is getting a choice gig. The Obama campaign refused to discuss McAuliffe’s slip of the tongue.

Team Obama also declined to say whether Bill Clinton will be given a speaking spot of his own.

Obama is the ordained candidate of the Democratic Party. It would seem pretty obvious that NQ isn’t particularly “fond” of Obama. Therefore, they can say what they like.

Also, I have seen links to Rush’s site and heard a few soundbytes from his show posted from time to time.

If Obama wasn’t so darn dangerous, I would probably vote for someone other than McCain. Here’s hoping McCain doesn’t alienate more conservatives with a lousy VP choice.

“You people,” is a way Texans try not to use, “y’all,” to non-Southerners. When one says, “Y’all,” one must endure scorn from the North and Midwest, or one must explain it.

“You people,” is the Work-Around.

Speaking Southern, especially the Texan variants (there are 8 different idioms/accents in Texas), is a daunting task and best not attempted by non-Southerners.

Floridians, like me, say, “Hey! How y’all?”
East Texans say, “Hi! Hire yew?”

Trust me…Japanese is a LOT easier.

You need to read more. There are Democrats here who both criticize Ibama and praise McCain.

I have praised McCain on Iraq, and on hs Energy Policy. Energy directly ties to the short term and long term fate of the economy.

The price at the pump is the economy stupid!!

Exploring every energy option, including opening up new drilling leases, will lessen dependence on mid east oil, and put a damper on speculation.

Speculation is driven by SWAG. It is not based on current supply and demand. Opening up every eergy option will effect speculation psycology.

This post has a link to Ibama telling a Missouri audience that by inflating car tires, we can save the same amount of oil that all the new drilling would create. Ibama should take a math refresher.

Ibama said “we can’t drill our way out of our energy problem.” But we can inflate our way out?

Why not, Ibama is inflating his way to the White House.

Obama is just like one of today’s star-maker created pop idols. All superficial image creation and zero substance. It’s so easy once the surface is scratched to realize there is absolutely nothing under the suit.

Hillary on the other hand (while certainly an impressive presence to behold) is pure and full substance in the areas necessary to lead our country back in the right direction.

Why are we even having this discussion when Oblahma let us know his campaign was about “words” and Hillary told us hers was about “solutions.” Doesn’t seem like rocket science to me. Why is it so hard to pick the right one when we’re choosing between Milli Vanilli and Barbara Striesand???

a bunch of bad polls for bambi…

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x2882.xml?ReleaseID=1196

Florida and Ohio are now too close to call. No one has been elected President since 1960 without taking two of these three largest swing states in the Electoral College. Results from the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University polls show:
Florida: Obama has 46 percent to McCain’s 44 percent, compared to a 47 - 43 percent Obama lead June 18;
Ohio: Obama has 46 percent to McCain’s 44 percent, compared to a 48 - 42 percent Obama lead least time;
Pennsylvania: Obama leads McCain 49 - 42 percent, compared to 52 - 40 percent.

Bambi spent $5 million in FL, McCain spent ZERO. There’s no chance bambi will be able to carry FL, I guess he just has too much money to burn.

He’d better pray for VA & CO, otherwise, he’s toast.

This slow drip drip drip of defeat for Oblahma will pick up speed and turn into a gush after Denver if the SDs refuse to do what they were appointed to do.

Virginia has a huge military population (both active and retired). I doubt Obama will win Virginia. He may very well win Colorado as it seemed to be leaning more and more to the left.

He should be well ahead at this point, but these numbers should be worrisome. Although, I don’t put much stock into any polls until after Labor Day.

Latest Colorado poll shows BO leading by 1.7. He has slipped here too (poll number from Real Clear Politics). Four years ago there were Kerry signs & bumper stickers everywhere (I’m in Denver). This year there are quite a few local campaign signs but not much else. There’s a BO sign here and there, but nothing like the last election. I did see a Hillary sign in one yard (go puma). We are a one car family so I don’t do a lot of driving around, but my husband hasn’t seen much either on the various routes he takes to work.

What it says to me is there is not the kind of support for BO I’d expect to see in this Dem stronghold (and home to this years convention).

Don’t believe Pennsylvania, no doubt this is a Democratic state, but us BITTER people will not take orders and fall in line from the DNC. This state was for Hillary. If we can’t have her, we sure as hell aren’t voting for Obama. I have not talked to one single Dem. who will be voting for Obama.

I live in a suburb of Pittsburgh and last weekend, had a wake-up call when talking to a former 76 year old neighbor. I hadn’t discussed politics with him since March, when we were both changing our registrations to Democrat (him from R; me from I) to be able to vote for HRC in the PA primary. He’s now saying that he’s going to vote for BO in the GE, because he doesn’t want to have GWB’s 3rd term. His concern is that with the economy tanking, his retirement fund has diminished significantly.

I understand his concern about his nest egg, but was shocked at his mis-information in thinking that McCain would be GWB’s 3rd term, when clearly, BHO = GWB’s 3rd term.

Evidently, the message that’s still getting out to the general population is that BO is The One to solve all problems and that McCain would be more of the same of what we’ve had for the past 8 years.

We still have a lot of work to do, to ensure that obama is defeated.

Obama is using scare tactics on the older people. He uses the guilty whites also, with fears that they will appear racist. His minions turn on the black population, that don’t support him, calling them Uncle Toms …the Great Divider is he. Right out of the Arab play book “divide and conquer”….

Well…It is certainly THE FASCIST PLAYBOOK….Ask Brother Mao…Heir Adolf…Comrade Josef….Once you put race or class or any other distinction as a mechanism of the state….You got a Fascist.

*** Obama and his tactics are merely a clever synthesis ***

wonder how well-thumbed is his copy of the little red book?

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-07-31 12:45:59

Gee I would imagine after sitting in that church and takin advice from Uncle Jerry and Ayatollah Louis….Obama has the Fascist Classic Library committed to memory by now…If he forgets somethin….There’s always Meeeeeechelle to remind him…no ?

His mob calls black people that won’t back him race traitors. That’s really stupid because it shows the truth. They want them to vote for him just because he’s part black.

Yes, that is the main concern of this election.

Most of the elderly base their decisions on what the MSM is telling them. And we all know what that is, Obama is the all mighty wonderful candidate who will bring about the change that we have all been waiting for.

When you try to get thru to them, explain that the media is corrupt, that they are giving you their biased opinions instead of the true facts, that they are pushing for this man for their own agenda, money. And you try to explain that you have done tons of research on Obama on the Internet, and their reply to that is, you can’t believe every thing you read on the net. But if CNN says it, it must be gospel.

The young voter lives in their own little world. With all of the privileges they have had, they don’t realize that their life can change in a heart beat, and not for the better. They look at you like you are a path
