Hillary Clinton will be personally handed the results of the IOwnMyVote platform survey, along with a complete list of all of us who have completed the survey.
This platform effort is deeply important to Hillary. If you haven’t completed the survey, please do so today. If you haven’t posted a story about the survey at your own blog, please do so today or tomorrow. If you haven’t e-mailed all of your friends, please do so right away. Please also encourage everyone you know to sign the IOwnMyVote.com pledge. (Of note: We are very pleased that JustSayNoDeal.com has featured the survey on its home page.)
Hillary is not the only key person who will personally receive a copy. Charlie Rangel and Sheila Jackson Lee will also receive copies, delivered directly into their hands. They will all lobby the Platform Committee on our behalf.
It is vital that Hillary, and our other key backers, see as many signatures as possible! She will also see the survey results, complete with bar graphs. (No Quarter will be publishing the bar graphs that display the voting results for each of the 10 measures.)
It is also vital that all of you who can get to Pittsburgh next weekend (August 9-10, 2008), do so. The Platform Committee will be meeting at Pittsburgh’s convention center. We will have precise times and the meeting room location for you very soon. Stay tuned. If we have a polite but persistent group of supporters at the meeting, we stand a greater chance of getting our platform proposals included in the final edition.
The foreign press has featured this platform story more than U.S. media Here’s an excerpt from an excellent piece, “Clinton supporters urge Democratic Party to act on ‘pervasive gender bias’” in The Irish Times:
some of Senator Hillary Clinton’s supporters are pushing for the Democratic Party’s new platform to state that the primary elections “exposed pervasive gender bias in the media” and to call on party leaders to take “immediate and public steps” to condemn future perceived instances of bias.
The push for the plank in the party’s statement of principles reflects a lingering unhappiness over Mrs Clinton’s treatment during the Democratic primary, and over what they say was an inadequate response from party leaders.
Some Clinton supporters have complained of jibes against the New York senator by TV talk show hosts, off-colour novelty items that surfaced during the campaign and incidents such as one where hecklers yelled “Iron my shirt!” at a Clinton rally.
“There were so many examples in the media of sexist comments where we never heard from the party leadership or Barack Obama,” said Stacy Mason, executive director of a political action committee called WomenCount, which claims thousands of members. The group ran newspaper advertisements in the spring urging Mrs Clinton to stay in the contest.
“We’re focused on why the Democratic leadership was so silent about it during the campaign,” Ms Mason said. “It was their obligation to come to the defence of one of their own primary candidates, and they didn’t. They stayed silent during the campaign, and that’s not okay.”

Note the emphasis on “universal healthcare,” which Obama’s campaign has yet to endorse — and the MISCHARACTERIZATION of our efforts by an Obama spokesperson:
That includes the senator’s signature proposal for universal healthcare, a stance that sets up a conflict with the Obama campaign. Where Mrs Clinton would require people to carry health insurance, Mr Obama’s healthcare proposal would mandate coverage only for children - one of the few policy differences between the two that emerged in the course of the Democratic primary.
Clinton supporters who are trying to influence the platform-writing process are working independently of the New York senator and her staff. Heather Higginbottom, an Obama policy aide and a member of the drafting committee, said that Clinton’s official representatives helping to shape the platform have asked neither for a healthcare mandate nor gender-bias language.
“We have talked about healthcare, about sharing the goal of universal coverage. But not about a mandate,” Ms Higginbottom said.

Why did the DNC STEAL MY VOTE and give it to Obama?? In Michiganistan whenever Delegates are elected as “Uncommitted” they have to go to the convention that way, UNCOMMITTED. The DEMS lost me with vote stealing, they have become very undemocratic.

WASHINGTON — Now that Barack Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination for president, he wants convention delegates from Florida and Michigan to have full voting rights at the party’s national convention.
Obama sent a letter Sunday to the party’s credentials committee, asking members to reinstate the delegates’ voting rights when the committee meets at the start of the convention.
The delegates were originally stripped because the two states violated party rules by holding primaries before Feb. 5. The delegates from each state were given half-votes at a contentious party meeting in May, as part of a compromise designed to give two important states some role at the convention.
Obama’s former Democratic rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton, had won both primaries, though Obama’s name was not on the Michigan ballot and neither candidate campaigned in Florida.
“I believe party unity calls for the delegates from Florida and Michigan to be able to participate fully alongside the delegates from the other states and territories,” Obama said in the letter.
The Illinois senator said he supported the party’s efforts to control the primary calendar.
“As we prepare to come together in Denver, however, we must be — and will be — united in our determination to change the course of our nation,” Obama said.
Obama’s endorsement virtually guarantees the delegates will have full voting rights. Clinton, who also has supporters on the credentials committee, had lobbied to reinstate the delegates.
The three co-chairs of the credentials committee issued a statement Sunday saying the issue of Florida and Michigan would be a “top priority” at their meeting.
“As always our goal is to ensure a fair process and a unified Democratic Party so that we can win in November,” wrote Alexis Herman, James Roosevelt Jr. and Eliseo Roques-Arroyo.
My theory is that he is appealing to Hillary’s better instincts with this ploy, exploiting her desire to have all the votes counted. This is part of the “negotiation” to have all the votes counted as Hillary exhorted. Now if he comes down on the side of counting all the votes, he will have her NOT sign up to put her name in nomination. He has used this technique repeatedly to eliminate rival candidates, starting with Alice Palmer. He is a worm, but that is an insults to industrious and honest earthworms everywhere.
Could be… Question is whether HRC could politically outsmart him (we know that as a person of course but teh biggy is “politically”).
Wouldn’t it be great if they made such a deal and then she was elected on the first ballot?

It’s a nice dream, but I agree that Hillary was telling us something in that video from the unity fund raiser. She was very succinct when she said “that’s not going to happen”. There is lots of behind the scenes stuff happening here, no question. But let’s not go too crazy here, either. She knows something about Obama (and has known for quite some time), and I believe that if she accepts the VP slot it is only because she knows something is going to happen to disqualify Obama before November. If she believes he will be elected, she will not accept VP because that means she would either be out after 4 years after he screws everything up (and lose any chance of ever being elected POTUS), or would have to wait until she’s 68 to run again. She’s got way more political savvy than that.

Yes, that is true. I was very upset at Rangel. But the bottom line is that he will be part of the drafting so he should get a copy as well; he’ll be embarrassaed to go against HRC on many of the issues of addressed on the survey. The draft question is important feedback for him as well since he was the one that proposed it.

I’ve been struggling on Rangel. He’s questionable these days. He still needs to be handed the petition.
That is not the information I heard. I heard that she ask him to hold off until after her speech on Saturday, but he and the NY delegation went out on Thursday or Friday. Since then Jesse, jr called out the wolves and had the NY Times print the article about his rent controlled apartment being used as an office and blame it on Hillary.
I’m going to CBC in Sept/October and I am hoping to get the truth.

I too was rather peeved at Rangel, until I read the details of what happened (sorry - don’t have a link at the moment).
The way I understand it, Rangel told Hillary on a con call that the black Democrats up for re-election in NY this fall were being relentlessly attacked by Camp Obama for not supporting the messiah. Many of them were suddenly facing Democratic opponents (that are getting the backing of the party) since the NY delegation was not willing to support Obama until Hillary suspended her campaign. He was trying to let her know that her campaign was starting to cause collateral damage in the down line races.
All things considered, it may be that Charlie is feeling a bit silly as he tries to crawl out from under the Obama bus. He may be more helpful than you think. He’s the reason Hillary came to NY to run for the Senate in the first place.

This is the “internal” moment we have all been waiting for ‘folks’. He is a user and an abuser. He is not alone in this thinly veiled charade.
I suspected as much, which is why I held off on throwing Rangel under my own bus. Charlie has many good and bad points, depending on your viewpoint, but I cannot imagine that he enjoyed having to tell his hand-picked candidate to back off or his own constituency would punish her supporters. I’m sure that’s a slice of humble pie he never ordered, and would love to return to the chef.
I think Obama and the DNC has forced many Hillary loyalist to back the man. “Under” my bus is getting crowded with the likes of Kerry, Dean, Pelosi, McCaskill, Kennedy, Brazile, my state’s delegation who all went with the man, Edwards, Reid etc. But I think people like Charlie Rangel had no choice but to do it. It sounds like a dictatorship.

There is no way that you are going to get everything you want from one single candidate. Politics is about choosing battles and knowing when to fold in order to win a future battle.
If you are going to give up on every single person who dissapoints you for one reason or another, you won’t have any politicians left.
At some point or another Rengel like all the others, had to do what was right for the party and not for themselves. And isn’t that what we want from our politicians?
Now, if Rangel and others wanted to do what was right for the country and not the party, he would need to resign from his seat. Because he was placed there to represent the people and not his own opinion.

Congress went on vacation with no energy bill in place so now it is ok for BO to sanction drilling. But Pelosi still said on TV today that drilling isn’t the answer. So what do you think will happen in congress on energy in the fall?

Please do your research before you vote. Most of the NY delegation held off on supporting Obama until they couldn’t stand the pressure from the DNC and the kingmakers.
That being said, since you’re in NY you do have the option to vote for local candidates on the Liberal line (almost all of them appear on both lines). This does not affect the candidate one bit, but it does affect the Democratic party. The top line(s) on the ballot are determined by the total number of votes cast for the party in all races. If local candidates win on the Liberal or Green or Working Families line, that party gets moved higher up on the next year’s ballot.
Tell everyone you know to do this. It sends a message!
I throw all that mail in the trash with junk mail I don’t even bother to open it. In emails I delete it. Since I signed up for McCain updates I’m getting email from the RNC it also gets deleted. I’ve now seen how these parties operate. Here’s my pledge, from here on out I really do own my own vote. No more will I listen to rhetoric. From here on out, I will not look to see if the person has a D, R, or I behind their name. From here on out, I am looking directly at the candidate. Their records(committee, bills, votes). Their ties, who donates to them, and I am voting for whomever I think is the best candidate. Period.

I started the book last night and NoQuarter has definitely been ahead of the curve. Many things I already knew via online infor and some with refinements added…for instance…Odinga is a cousin due to belonging to the Luo tribe. Ann divorced O, Sr. when she found out about wife #1. It’s interesting that he compares the versions that Obama gives the fairy tale version vs the view from people up close and personal to the polygamist, wife beating drunken failure. Must have been a shock when Jr., found out who Dad really was. The guy obviously has a history of making it up as he goes along. And, as we’ve seen all along, there’s no position he won’t prostitute.
It’s a fast read and for those of us interested a real page turner.
He’s done a lot of research…wonder if he isn’t a good source for birth certificates?

I have read the first 100 pages, and I have to say that for those of us “paying attention,” there is not much new so far. Just painting the portrait of Barry as an abandoned child whose struggles to find himself have more to do with abandonment issues than racial issues. But for the uninformed (e.g. non-readers of this and similar blogs, and those who have not read Barack’s fiction), there will be a lot of provocative information.

There is still a large population of citizens who get their info from the TV and from the newspaper. Too bad they are mostly uninformed, as yet. I’m hoping that McCain will be able to get more MSM attention soon.
