Preparation for tonight’s NO Quarter Radio show

I’ll be hosting DCMediagirl’s Hour of Power tonight at 10:30 pm ET/7:30 pm PT. Advisory to follow. In the meantime, prepare by reading up on Bob Herbert’s bizzaro phallic obsession (take a look a few postings down) and this little doozy by Maureen Dowd, who outdoes herself yet again. As an English Literature major I take particular umbrage at her ludicrous Pride and Prejudice analogy, but that’s the least of the sins committed in this column. Anyway, we’ll discuss later.

Also, as a follow up to last week, I’m posting the highly revealing Sally Quinn article published in the Washington Post the month before the House voted to impeach that offers a fascinating picture of the Washington press corps and their demented Clinton hatred.

Ditto…

The odd thing is that Obama bears a distinct resemblance to the most cherished hero in chick-lit history. The senator is a modern incarnation of the clever, haughty, reserved and fastidious Mr. Darcy.

Like the leading man of Jane Austen and Bridget Jones, Obama can, as Austen wrote, draw “the attention of the room by his fine, tall person, handsome features, noble mien. …he was looked at with great admiration for about half the evening, till his manners gave a disgust which turned the tide of his popularity; for he was discovered to be proud, to be above his company, and above being pleased.”

That hack O’Dowdy is one sick demented puppy, and that’s putting it mildly! She has one big fat “O’Fraudulent One” fetish!

Hey, Ms Dowdy do you know what I think your precious bullsh*t MR. PRIDE should do? I think he should be forced to live in his pal’s Tony Resko’s slum apartments with the Rats and NO heat in the winter. That should help him get over his pride fast!

That article was clearly written by a person who refuses to do any investigation of how obama cheated to get a nomination. Femminist not standing up for Michelle Obama, why should they, they know nothing about her. The obama’s have done everything they could, with the help of the media concile their past, her husband pretends to care about women issues but to manything say he doesn’t. Like not paying his female staffers as much as males staffers. Michelle Obama get’s a free ride from everyone except fox news. If it was Hillary clinton she would be attacked on all the major news net work including fox. there’s no limit to the amount of just clear, bias bullsh*t that these people are trying to throw around to validate obama as a canidate, and then to successfully force him down our throughts, and they hate anyone who spits that food right back at them. Luckily the average american knows thiis and will probably vote accordingly, but intimidating hillary clinton supporters are not the way to assure a win for obama so they need to smarten up.

Sally simply lives in a different world than the rest of us:

“In August 1973, Quinn tried her hand at television, joining CBS News reporter Hughes Rudd as co-anchors of the CBS Morning News.[3] The show’s anchoring team was its first disaster since debuting in 1963 — ninety minutes before her television debut on August 6, 1973, Quinn, who never reported for television before, collapsed while trying to fight the flu. The next day, she was forced to anchor solo when Rudd’s mother died. Quinn’s ad libs during the show’s first week also tended toward the inappropriate — on one episode, following a report on the children of California migrant farm workers, she quipped that child labor “was how I felt when my mother and father made me clean up my room.” Quinn left the CBS Morning News after the February 1, 1974 telecast.

She REEKS of snobbery.

I laughed out loud at that husband-stealer’s assertion that “THE LYING OFFENDS THEM.”

They certainly seem to have gotten over that in the ensuing years, haven’t they?

Comment by BernieO | 2008-08-05 11:29:50

The hypocrisy of these people is just astounding. I read this article when it came out and find it even more bizarre now that the US really has lost its moral authority in the world.

These are the people who think that the sun shines out of Sally Quinn’s and husband Ben Bradlee’s rear ends, yet they are appalled at Clinton’s behavior!? They all know that Ben Bradlee himself told the story in his memoir of how Quinn went out of her way to lure him into an affair even though she knew he was married. (She started with anonymous notes, then moved up to outright seduction and he, weak man that he is, went right along. But he criticizes Clinton for his affair….)

This is the same crowd (including the Irish mafia at NBC/MSNBC like Matthews, Russert, Barnicle, Williams, etc.) who think JFK was a god. How hpypocritical of Jackie Kennedy’s social secretary to complain that all the other presidents had class. It doesn’t get more sleazy than the things JFK routinely did with women in the Whitehouse. And it doesn’t get more reckless than JFK’s having an affair with with a mob boss’s girlfriend which gave Hoover power over him. Worse yet was his relationship with Ellen Romesch, a woman the FBI believed to be a Soviet spy!
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKrometsch.htm
There is no way these beltway insiders would have approved of the media exposing JFK for this behavior, even though it constituted much more of a threat to our country. (JFK did a lot of great things, but he was really out of control sexually, far more than Bill Clinton.)

As for being appalled at the lying, apparently they only care if someone lies about his personal life, not about matters of importance to our country. (I think people have every right to lie if someone is prying into things which are none of their business.) For example, Poppa Bush and Reagan both lied their heads off about their involvement in the serious constitional violation that was Iran-Contra. (Well, there is the possibility that Reagan had really forgotten because he was showing clear signs of dementia by then.) There was no uproar when Bush pardoned Caspar Weinberger, even though the independent council, a Republican, had clear evidence that Weinberger had lied under oath in order to protect Bush from being exposed as an orchestrator of this crackpot scheme, not “out of the loop” as Bush had repeatedly claimed. And there has been no equivalent outrage at Baby Bush for his administration’s outrageous lies to the public which were used to con us into supporting the invasion of Iraq.

If they were all so appalled at what was happening to the office of the presidency they should have come down like a ton of bricks on the Republican witch hunters, including their buddy the highly partisan, prissy, crackpot Ken Starr. They like to pretend otherwise, but it was clear that Starr was a right wing partisan. He had even approached James Carville in an airport before he was independent council, got in his face and said we are going to take your guy down. He hated Clinton and made no secret of it.

I have always thought that the reason Washington insiders despised the Clintons and had a double standard for their behavior compared to the Kennedy’s, Bushes, etc. was that Clinton was a southerner. (They were also disdainful of Jimmy Carter, mocking him as a “peanut farmer”.) They repeatedly called Clinton “bubba”, an insulting term only used for people from the south. I heard Tim Russert use this term about Bill just a short time before he died. Russert constantly bragged about being from a working class family in Buffalo, but clearly viewed southerner like Clinton who came from the same class with disdain. I always wished someone had called Tim a “Buffalo bubba” to his face to see how he liked it.

It is the beltway insiders with their double standards and snotty attitudes to those of us who live in “flyover land” who lack class and damaged the image of our country. They had the power to stop the trashing of Clinton but instead gladly joined in by flogging the bogus Whitewater scandal and pushing for an independent counsel, even after two Republicans, Jay Stevens of the RTC and Robert Fisk the special counselappointed by Janet Reno had both cleared the Clintons in the phony Whitewater scandal. This information was not reported by most media outlets and was buried on the back pages by those who bothered. Had it been the whole thing would have stopped right then. No Ken Starr, no Monica. But even with this terrible, unfair pressure, Bill stayed focused on what was best for the country. Too bad these clowns don’t do the same.

It has been my theory for a while now that the msm despises the American middle class, and those who aspire to the middle class. It is this scorn on the part of the msm that causes their Clinton Derangement Syndrome, because the Clintons are public servants who work towards strengthening the middle class and helping citizens achieve middle class stability.

From the Quinn article:

Muffie Cabot, who as Muffie Brandon served as social secretary to President and Nancy Reagan, regards the scene with despair. “This is a demoralized little village,” she says. “People have come from all over the country to serve a higher calling and look what happened. They’re so disillusioned. The emperor has no clothes. Watergate was pretty scary, but it wasn’t quite as sordid as this.”

Muffie. Perfect.

Watergate wasn’t as sordid? Give me a break.

Hmmm….Susan they’re all kinda snobby….Aaaaand what’s wrong with taking your lunch in a lunchbox ? The way so many MSM folks have denigrated HRC’s base of supporters is classic CLASS WAR FARE….
I like Juan Williams and Krugman….

Comment by BernieO | 2008-08-05 11:32:52

Williams has really been great the last year or so. Before that he did not stand up to the conservatives on Fox very often. Now he not only does this and does it well, he also does not hesitate to criticize Obama. Last Sunday he even admitted that Barack had played the race card and that it was a dumb thing to do.

Krugman is fantastic, not only because he is an economist who is not an ideologue but also because, unlike most of them, he can make things clear to us lay people.

The thing that’s always frosted me about Sally Quinn is that she’s conveniently forgotten how she got her start - eyebrow raising to say the least.

“Can you show me something you’ve written?” asked Managing Editor Benjamin Bradlee. “I’ve never written anything,” admitted Quinn. Pause. “Well,” said Bradlee, “nobody’s perfect.”

I have never had a job interview like this in my life. I’ll let you write your own conclusions about what this “interview” says about both parties. And just to be clear, I idololize Ben Bradlee for his bravery and heroic stand during Watergate. He’s one of the reasons I went into this business in the first place.

I think the best course of action is to file a suit against the DNC for fraud. They are collecting and soliciting donations when they have not verified the qualifications of this candidate. This is the definition of FRAUD!!!! Remember Jimmy and Tammy Bakker overselling Heritage USA rooms. You can’t collect money for a faudulent cause. If Obama can not prove his qualifications via a Birth Certificate, the DNC is perpetrating a fraud on the Democrats of this country. We have the right and duty to prevent this and make them prove the qualifications of Obama. The one real qualification in the US Constitution is that the President be natural born. And a Birth Certificate is required to verify that. The DNC should be hit with an injunction preventing the nominating process from going forward till Obama’s qualifications can be verified.

I know I am getting off of the subject here but did Obama say we would not see his daughters being (”exploited again” my words). I just read they are on the cover of Essence (AA magazine) for September with a story about family life. Is this another flip.

Comment by stateofdisbelief | 2008-08-05 10:41:36

Well now I’m convinced they are setting the stage for Obama’s inevitable demise - but they will be so stubborn as to wait until November when the DNC can wash it’s hands and decry the “racism” that befell King Oblahma.

Gross, disgusting, repugnant, irresponsible, unforgivable, and downright STUPID

Right now, we’re in deep shit with recession AND rampant inflation.

The tab? $15.00!

BRING BACK THE CLINTON ECONOMY!

Alibe for Hillary: Right on! Subpoena the lot of them, the DNC leaders, Obama-Soetero-what’shisname, his sister, and his Grandmother. There’s something about the Grandmother’s set of her jaw, and one picture is all I have to go by, that makes me doubt she would lie, even about the circumstances of her grandson’s birth should it prove his undoing. I’m fairly confident when it all comes out, he will be proven to be not a natural born citizen, and he will lose his seat on the Senate, too.

Dowd is high on the arrogance list. Things that made me say ugh, achhh, er:

“they will never vote for a man again.”

“what they saw as sexism”

“denounce any perceived bias in the future. That is one nutty idea.”

“put off by Obama’s svelte, zero-body-fat figure.”

“McCain must be cast as Wickham”

“Senate’s exotic shooting star”

I shouldn’t have read this awful crap. Has the NYT always been this horrible? Did I just not notice how truly awful it was until a few months ago?

Comment by Sharon | 2008-08-05 11:27:15

The women who betray WOMEN are the absolute worst. And Maureen Dowd is one of the leaders of that pack - although almost every female “journalist” joined that club this primary season - women trying to destroy the candidacy of the great and qualified female candidate has been an astonishingly horrible sight to see in recent months.

Back to Maureen Dowd: She is ubercreepy, isn’t she? Much more like a cat than a human - that’s what I’m always struck with when I have the misfortune of seeing her. She’s one of those females who thinks she soooooo sexy (ewwwwww!) and whose “sexiness” is always foremost on her mind - the way she moves, the way she talks, the way she looks at the men in the room…just like a feline, not a woman - and, of course she doesn’t think “highly” of other women - she doesn’t think of other women at all - she’s the ONLY female, donchaknow…

As a woman, I can’t stand women like her - she’d say it’s jealousy, of course - because, like barky playing the race card, it’s all she’s got. But other women don’t like her (and other females of her ilk) because she gives us a bad name and a bad image - and because she’s soooooo creepy.

Comment by Five Thirty | 2008-08-05 12:58:08

Maureen Dowd reminds me of Peggy Noonan - her writing, that is.

Bob Herbert and other black journalists (Clarence Page, Eugene Robinson, etc) are suffering from what white conservative columnists suffered in the ’80’s with Reagan’s election; that is, they think they are prophets enabling their ‘great leader’ as he ascends (in their eyes) to the throne. Their ‘bubble’-headedness is simply astonishing to behold. Their all-knowing stupidity will be on display for 4 months, and when McCain wins it will be a pleasure to watch their pathetic self-analysis. But I would rather all this didn’t happen with a Hillary nomination. Man, I hope it happens.

New York Times: “Where’s The Landslide?”

David Brooks has a pretty good piece in the Times that continues the general hand-wringing in the MSM about why Obama can’t seem to close the deal. But Brooks actually may have hit upon the answer.

He gives examples of how in all of Obama’s experiences, he was present, but not interested in becoming a seasoned expert in anything, laying down roots, or in the overall success of the group. He was interested in doing things for Barack Obama and moving on to bigger and better things, again for the benefit of Barack Obama.

That is why Americans don’t feel comfortable with him. He is impossible to know, like Americans knew Andrew Jackson was a backwoodsman. John Kennedy had his clan. Ronald Reagan was forever associated with the small-town virtues of Dixon and Jimmy Carter with Plains.

Obama is in America, but not of America.

This is clear evidence of the stupidity of Dem leaders for promoting Obama now instead of supporting Hillary. Too bad more of the media aren’t willing to point this out. These guys need to be shown as the fools they are if we are to avoid making such an idiotic mistake again. Their jealousy of all things Clinton is appallingly stupid.

Comment by educatedwhitewoman | 2008-08-05 12:01:44

It’s interesting to see the MSM beginning to test the waters and start criticizing Obama. They are still way too soft on him, way too deferential. Not too many “writers” taking the time to actually hightlight and discuss the very negative and ugly aspects of Obama’s past, esp. in Chicago. Will the NYT actually publish an honest review of any of the Obama exposes hitting the bookstores? I doubt it, if they review them at all.

Have you seen herbert on msnbc? His obession with phallic symbols seems to speak more to his “personal” problems–i mean life than what the rnc is trying to do.

Btw, at the end of the msnbc piece herbert floats the idea that rnc is trying to use peoples resentment toward white and black couples–well hasn’t obama often talked about his white mother and african father? Herbert needs to take that rnc ad get a hotel room and “resolves” some unexplored “emotions”.

Comment by cathnealon | 2008-08-05 15:55:55

Dowd and Herbert exist for people like BO. He is their symbol of impotent, detached coolness and this is how they see themselves–far removed from the ‘ordinary’ people–their opinions and demeanor are beyond narcissism, they have moved past looking at themselves to hating themselves and consequently this self-hatred ripples outward and oozes from anything they write or say. The times I have read Dowd and seen her on talk shows I see one thing-the leftist self hatred so evident in these superfluous people. She hates Hillary and any woman stronger than she is–a superiority complex always masks feelings of doubt, shame and self-loathing and that is why alot of BO’s followers find hin so attractive-he reminds them of themselves.
